I understand the problem with cheating by using phones

Posted By: trose on 2008-04-23
In Reply to: New high school cell phone policy - Guest

and my children do carry the cells to school but keep them turned off and in their locker....which kinda defeats the purpose of being able to call in an emergency but I do know the problem it can become. The kids are also not supposed to have them on field trips that are just for the day (they are allowed to take them on overnight trips). Well, my son was on a high school field trip to VA Tech on Apr. 16. If hadn't had a teacher that allowed them (just don't abuse them) we would not have known for hours that he was okay. I went to the middle school that very afternoon and spoke to the principal about my DD taking her phone on a field trip and the principal said that it would be okay. That's good, cuz she was taking it no matter what.

Thanks everyone.....No he is not cheating
Last time he said he was "in love" with someone else, but she had her own family and stayed comitted to it, and he came back to me and has had nothing to do with her since. There is no one else this time, I am sure of that. I am almost willing to pretend that conversation never took place and if he is willing to stay with me for the kids, then that should be enough. But I don't want him unhappy, I still love him, and I suppose I deserve to be with someone I love too, but my kids and their happiness come first and foremost, before mine. I could be happy with him as long as he was content. I don't want him to stay though if he is just going to be an angry, unhappy person. I have thought of marriage counselling, he might be willing to try it. I am willing to try anything at this point.
Those cheating men
Over the last couple of weeks and especially in the last week 2 different families that have been much in the news, 1 family on a TV program and another family in government. Both husbands have been seen, caught, accused of having a child outside his marriage, another husband supposedly was going with a young teacher. Both of these men's spouses have taken their husband's sides, defending them, maybe even looking inward and seeing if possibly something the woman did was wrong. How would you react if your husband or significant other. Would you defend, get mad, get even or what?
Cheating men
Dateline tonight had a VERY interesting show on regarding this subject and people said as well it could be genetic - hmmmmm
Actually when my dad was cheating on my mom...sm
He has always left his cell phone laying around when home. Then she noticed he started keeping it in his pocket at all times. He even took it to the bathroom to get a shower. Or she actually found it hidden under a pile of dirty clothes one time when he was in the shower. He didn't want her to pick it up and see the calls on there.
What makes you think he's cheating on you?

Cheating spouses
I look at it this way, when you cheat on your spouse in the eyes of the Lord your marriage is dissolved anyhow. If my spouse ever cheated on me, I would definitely not stick it out for companionship or otherwise. It would just not be worth it to me because there would be massive trust issues from that point on. Just not worth it. For goodness sake, I would buy a dog before I would stay in a loveless marriage always wondering if my spouse was getting ready to cheat again!
Kind of cheating
At work our user names are the first four letters of our last name and the first two of our first name. Mine came out Horski which I kind of liked and on the boards, no one knows my gender right away too. I'm female by the way! You trying to pick something?
Cheating Spouse?
Have you ever caught your spouse cheating? If so, how did you catch him/her?
cheating spouse
I worked day shift and he worked 3-11 so for a few years we would hardly see each other at all. First, let me say that my husband is kind of messy. I would notice that when I came home from work, my home was in the same order that I left it in the morning. Even the curtains had not been opened yet. There were no dirty dishes. There was no sign anybody had been home all day. I would ask and he would always have an excuse..went to play golf before work, went to a ball game, had lunch with the guys, etc.

Then a woman started calling the house in the evening asking for my husband. I would say he was at work, ask if I could take a message and she would say no and hang up. She would call about 3 to 4 evenings a week. I asked my husband who she was and he would say he didn't know.

Then, HER husband called and left a message on our machine one day while we were out. He didn't say any names, just said stay away from my wife or I'm going to come over and beat your a$$. I asked who was that and my husband said he didn't know.

This all happened over about 4 months when he was offered a transfer with work out of state and we took it. He never admitted having an affair but I know he did. That was 16 years ago. We are still together and before everyone flames me, I will tell you that the man has paid dearly for that little fling. We've never discussed it because how can you discuss something he won't admit to? He didn't leave the house for years without taking 1 or all the kids with him, even to the grocery store or the post office. He never got to do anything he wanted to do, no more boys night out, no more golf weekends, etc. It got to the point where I was feeling sorry for him but he never said a word.

Now that we're in our 50s, I wish someone would take him so he'd leave me alone!
hubby cheating
I had a friend years ago who hid in the back of her hub's camper-cover pickup when she suspected he was going to see the other woman one night. He had a little *bed* in truck. She caught them and filed for divorce, later remarried and happy as a lark for 30 years now.
So corporate cheating is fine

You said - However, it does NOT justify lying, cheating, stealing insurance dollars and benefits just because you don't like it.

What do you call it when someone pays their premiums for years, they are told they are covered, then the insurance company decides they don't have to pay?  Sounds like what you just described above.  But it happens every day, and its supposedly OK, because its business,  I used to do medical billing, outrageous how many claims were denied because the ordering physician didn't do a precert, the insurance company decided it was unneccessary, or some other little loophole.  The providers didn't get paid, the patient ended up in collections,,,and IMO the patient was lied to, stolen from, and cheated out of his insurance dollars and benefits.

BTW, I do make my own money.  I'm just not too pleased at handing large chunks of it to an insurance company, knowing they will diligently seek reasons to deny a claim, even if I play by all their ever changing rules and memorize my policy.  And that includes the entire insurance industry, be it medical, LTD, life, auto, or homeowners insurance.

Cheating spouse/boyfriend, etc.
Many years ago I was married to a cheating spouse. I was pregnant with our second child when he took it upon himself to cheat with an underage girl in the back of our brand new station wagon. Well, I learned about this when a paternity suit came up with his name on it. Apparently he was so dumb that he did not know the girl had a boyfriend and being the sucker that he was he did not know that they would pin the paternity on him, and get money from him. Too bad it wasn't in this day and time because he would have been in jail because she was only 17, and he was in his 30s. This was only 1 in a string of women that I found out after the fact, and even contracted an STD when I was pregnant!! I also suffered spousal abuse, and have the scars to prove it. After 5 years of this I got out,and the only reason I stayed was for the children, but that was a huge mistake on my part. Now, whenever, I hear or see this on a program it makes me furious that these men think this behavior is okay. It is never okay and leaves many people, including children, to suffer much heartache.
Good for Kate! Who needs a cheating man.

If I knew there was a history of cheating on former wives,
then my opinion would be different. I think that once cheating occurs, it is more likely to be repeated in future relationships. Not saying that this is your case, but it would worry me.
My rant: I agree cheating on one's spouse is never SM
acceptable. The one thing that REALLY bothers me, is that men claim that they have to cheat, since sex with their wives is no longer exciting and that their wife won't do what paid companions will and my thought is always the same "Did you ASK her?". If they ask nicely, I'm sure loving wives would be more than willing to comply. Within reason, of course.
How far would you go (or would you) to find out if your husband/lover was cheating?
I am married now and never even think of his cheating or even worry about it, just do not have a feeling like that but in the past married to a real dog. I then checked his pockets, his shirt collars (for lipstick, makeup), phone calls and on and on. How far would you go and what have you found?
c phones
I have 2 different types of C-phones and  also currently work on a Lanier system which is basically the same as a C-phone.  You need umlimited long distance and you plug it into a phone jack.  If you do not have a second line to your home, you plug it into your home line, but you cannot receive phone calls while in use.  Both types of units work exactly the same as a regular phone.
C Phones

I have a very dumb question (probably), but I have never used one.  I need to know what a C Phone is and how it works.  Is it similar to a Lanier machine?  I have a Lanier and have used it quite a lot, but I am looking at several positions on the Job Seeker's board and they require a C Phone which I have no experience with.  Can anyone help?  Thanks.

I cannot believe they don't even have pay phones there somewhere - sm
I lived in a very small dorm. We had one floor phone (incoming calls or to make operator collect calls) and 2 pay phones on the second floor (3 floor dorm). We also had 2 pay phones in the large common room/reception area where the TV and pool table were. Just not safe not to have any phones; not everyone has a cell phone (granted probably 99% of the students do, but batteries do die). Maybe you can contact AIM and shut down his account somehow.....though there are several IMs out there he could use instead. Can you get his log-on and password and monitor how much he is on AIM and then have him sign a contract not to IM her more than 30 minutes a day as his studies are suffering. I cannot believe they have that much to say to each other, especially if she is still in high school(?). He has to grow up and realize just how important school is and an education unless he wishes to end up in manual labor or at McDonald's because he never finished college and got a degree. Of course depending on his field of study he may still end up at McDonalds do to no job at the end of it, but at least he will have that degree and that is important.
Strange question. I punched my ex when I found out what a cheating SOB he was. SM
I personally haven't been punched in the face since I was 20ish and I'd like to keep it that way.
Please take the phones out of the little girls' hands!
Just got thru watching AI and am disappointed YET AGAIN that Sanjaya was not voted out. It's gotta be all those little 13-year-old girls that are voting for him, because there's not one lick of talent there. Granted Stephanie wasn't at her best last night, but she was at least 10 times better than Sanjaya. They all were, for that matter! Oh well, I still don't believe he will make it much longer. At least I hope not.
AI - good show. Can't get thru on the phones, though.
I won't say any more since the left-coasters haven't seen it yet.
the phones were not working last night

I got through one time to vote for Melinda but then, after that - the first phone # said this number is not registered (recording) and the other number(s) said *for a charge of $6.99 you will reach a national directory service* and was sending you to a number like 10115158000.  The numbers last night were all messed up.  I went to American Idol's website and there was NOWHERE to report that the phones (all lines) were all messed up for hours.

So, in my guesstimation, the outcome of the show will be totally wrong/slanted/fixed.

Betcha American Idol has no clue at this point (early a.m. Wednesday) that this even happened last night.

Looking for cell phones you no longer need...

Hi!  My church is collecting cell phones as a fundraiser.  If you have an unused cell phone lying around that you would like to get rid of, please let me know!  Just let me know what the brand, model number, phone co used for and I will let you know if that is one that is on the list.  I will pay for the shipping to get it here!

Thanks a zillion!

kids and cell phones

Both my sons got their own cells phones when they went to college and I suggested they get the prepaid type....When their minutes ran out they were outta luck....They learned to budget their money pretty quickly though.   Both worked and went to school.  It also taught them that there's no such thing as a free ride in this world.

Teenagers and Cell Phones
We plan on getting our 13-year-old daughter a cell phone for Christmas. She does a lot of afterschool activities and I want her to be able to reach us at all times. But we're getting her the prepaid trac phone. We already told her, don't expect a fancy phone with a camera and texting capabilities (you can text with the trac phones, but it just takes away your time). If she doesn't accept that, then no cell phone. My husband had a friend at work whose daughter's cell phone bill was $600 one month. I can see that happening with a teenaged daughter.
I have a couple of Verizon phones.. SM
That I will be willing to sell.  They're the enV phones, pratically brand new.  We moved and can't use them in our new house in another state so Verizon let us out of our contract. If you are going to sign up with Verizon let me know.
We have 2 phones, family plan with 200
free text messages and my bill is only 65.
On mine and husband's phones s/m
My husband and I have it disabled on our phones.  We are not teenagers,so we don't text, and we were getting charged every time we got a junk text, even if we didn't open it.  Our kids have a monthly plan, but if they go over they have to pay.
Alltel - about $120/mo family plan with 3 phones. sm
i like the alltel circle. most of my family has alltel as well and those that don't, i put 10 #s in my circle, any network, any phone # land or cell. we have unlimited nights and weekends, unlimited mobile to mobile. i have 350 texts and my daughter has unlimited texts and web for $19.99/mo added in that bill. i think towers for different providers are different for different areas though so you might wanna check out what is most popular in your area. i am in the south.
People talking on cell phones while having
dinner in a restaurant. I realize some people have to take calls, but just get up and leave the table.
OP says she answers phones as her at home job...she HAS to answer
nm
Have used only cell phones for probably a couple of years.
Saves us about $80-85 a month.
I pay $189 a month for 5 phones w/unlm texting and 700 mim.
Even when we had internet it was still only a little over $200, that person needs a new plan!!!
Internet and cell phones - I remember before (sm)
I was a secretary in the late 80s for a medical association...I had to make up and send out hundreds of "meeting packets" to the doctors who were going to attend every month's meeting. Pages and pages of copies, colating and stapling them, addressing every FedEx label...it was an all day job, sometimes two days. Now you could just do a mass email and send it to all of them in 5 minutes. Amazes me every time I think about it. I also used to keep a monthly calendar of accredited events doctors could attend and had to mail that out to everyone...now, that can all just be put on a website to be viewed by anyone who needs it.

The cell phone thing though...other than being really glad I have it when I have car trouble or something, I'd rather not be tied to my phone like that. It is as though everyone expects you to be available all the time. I don't answer mine most of the time and call back if I need to.
Two cell phones can't share the same numer.
You'd have to get 2 separate numbers. You can get a basic family plan so you can share minutes between the phones. If you do that, you're looking at spending a little more than on your home phone bill, but then you have the added benefit of having a cell phone, which is nice to have especially on the road in case your car breaks down or something. You could always just forego the second phone line and family package, and just get a single cell phone & save a little money that way too.
So you think cell phones are safe? This is troubling!
This is probably what it does to our brain power - like putting your head in a microwave,

I laughed when I saw that privacy and cell phones, my goodness
out in public those 2 just do not go together. Unless I get a call (which I seldom do on my cell) I do not make those obnoxious calls that lets everyone else around me or a block away listen to all my conversation. I am so put off by those I usually try to walk away from the person who is doing this. By the way, if I am tracked they will find me 99.9% of the time in my own home.
Cell phones - How dangerous is their long-term use?

Hoax or not, the long-term safety of cell phones is still very much in question!  They are not innocuous, and emit harmful electromagnetic radiation in varying amounts.  Just as policemen's radar guns laid in their laps have caused testicular cancer, so the incidence of brain tumors from cell phone usage has also been on the rise.
That very thing happened to my stepdad, a brain tumor & aneurysm right above his right ear, where he holds his cordless phone constantly.  Cell phone signals decrease fertility of humans & animals alike, & Swedish researchers have proven that they are ESPECIALLY damaging to the brains of children!  Cell phone-using kids are FIVE times more likely to get brain cancer.  I gave mine up over 5 years ago & will never use another one on a routine basis.  This issue is being covered up, but is certain to become the controversy of the 21st century, just as tobacco was in the 20th century.

Does anyone have Verizon and also their cell phones. Can you tell me if they offer a decent deal if
you have both from them compared to other cell phones. No sure which one to get.
Our teenager learned a valuable lesson today about cell phones....

She got a new cell phone last month and downloaded a bunch of ringtones, even though I reminded her that each one costs money + the transfer fee, which the system prompts you for as we don't have the internet plan for the cell phone (don't do text messaging either).   Well, she ignored the prompts about the 3 cents per kilibite fee and size of the files alert when she accepted the downloads she selected.  To make a long story short..... her bill for her downloads is right at $60.

She is crying that she has to pay this bill but I'm not working overtime because she ignored my telling her about the costs and accepted the charges.  This will teach her a lesson on responsibility.  She was expecting the bill to be about $20.  She'll be babysitting up a storm this next month to pay this bill!

i understand
I have just become single again and have 2 kids.  What I believe is that obviously we have spent so many years doing "kid stuff", going to the grocery, errands, etc. that we have a hard time hooking up with single guys because we lose sight of who we are beyond mom, household manager, etc.  Try to remember or imagine what you would be doing if you didn't have kids and resosibilities or had time to do it.  Whether it is rafting, reading and discussing things, being at a college class, hiking or some particular sport or interest(chess club, rock climbing, etc) you HAVE to make an effort to do these things, even if it constrained by time and $$hook up with a free group and devote a few hours a week to it.  THEN eventually you'll be in the place to meet the person you would hang out with even if you weren't a mom.
"
I understand....
I worked away from home until just recently. The pressures to "donate" are horrible. My friend and I finally decided that we would allocate "X" amount of dollars for giving, once gone, the well was dry. Saying "NO" is not easy, and the repayment of debt falls in your lap.

You are probably more talented than you realize. Be creative if you work from home. Work hours while the children are asleep, or see if you can work split shifts to accomodate your children's schedule.

If you are unable to pay back on the taxes you owe right away, just attach a signed letter with your tax papers requesting a payment plan. You can set it up to reflect a reasonable monthly payment, include the first payment, and the IRS will work with you.

If you are incurring (sp?) debt, make sure that it is for something useful that is going to last for a while.
I understand what you are saying, but
I don't have a husband or significant other either, and when I did I still took out the trash, mowed the lawn, and what is snuggling?  When the lump on the sofa was asked to leave, the only thing I missed was having to tell him to move to the other side.
I understand what you are saying, but did --sm
you read my post at all? How can one make *good food choices* when the govt. makes that impossible to do? I eat all organic these days, when ever possible. I eat lean red meat once a week. I eat a lot of veggies and fruits and try to find something that does not have HFCS in it...which is terribly difficult to do. It is a losing battle when all the cards are stacked against you. My vice is not food or overeating. My vice is what the govt inflicts on unsuspecting and disbelieving people who think that obesity is a choice...it isn't. and neither is diabetes or hypothyroidism. Good food choices do NOT override this condition. This condition was inflicted on me by money grubbing *professionals* who have their heads where the sun don't shine. If you think todays doctors and pharmaceuticals have our best interests at heart, you are an ostrich. Research it and do not *assume* that being overweight is a choice. it isn't. and simply making *good food choices* is not going to change that fact. JMO
He may not really understand what an IC is--sm
and he is concerned about future income, but really all he needs to be concerned with would be your income tax statement from last year. Personally I don't think he should need that type of letter, just proof of income, which would be tax statement. that is all. JMO
don't understand
If you bought a certain piece of furniture why is bidding involved and why does it have to be done on courthouse steps in the public and all that?   By all means, do what the law says -- sure sounds like they're on your side.  But getting a news station involved isn't a bad idea either.  These people sound like crooks and the public needs to know.  Even just a friend with a video camera to send a film of it all into a station with the hopes of a reporter followup to keep others from being tricked too.  And I sure think you should get something for mental pain and aggravation and loss of interest on your money.
From what I understand
nobody was "demanding" anything, they were making do just fine with the sinks. This was done because people complained about the sinks being used for this purpose. I guess I just don't get what the big deal is.

People are so afraid that immigrants are going to somehow take over the country, its like this big "us versus them" mentality- its just silly. What, are you worried that they will do what WE did when we "discovered" America to begin with? You know, we are all immigrants here when you think about it.

I understand about all that too
but they found no reason for my miscarriage and knowing all that still didn't help the pain or grief of losing the babies after trying for so long, and everybody doesn't just get pregnant again right after. I didn't. I was just blessed that God gave them to me in a diffent way
I do not understand what you mean?
A bite itself itches, you can scratch an itch but you cannot itch an itch. I would think that is a backwoodsy type statement if you said it.
I just don't understand this
First, my husband would not dare do this to me or my kids. This man obviously has no respect for anybody. And that is what I would tell your daughter's friend's parents, along with if it keeps up you'll divorce him! And I'd tell him the same exact thing. But if mine did this just once, I can assure you it would not happen again, after I got through with him.
