THEY say the 3rd time is the charm, eh?

Third time is the charm! I put my baby as my avatar in my profile.
Man, I'm just not a techie!
I must admit I started to type "Yawn" but really didn't
!
P.S. I have a beautiful 8-year-old daughter from it all. nm

Daughter's sweet 16
I'm asking for ideas.  My daughter is a very studious girl who has only a couple of friends, one of whom shares her birthday.  Her 16th is coming up.  It has been a year of hoopla for girls all around her.  Even her friend who shares her birthday is planning a big blast with lots of family and friends.  We are basically the only family she has - her father, her 18 year old brother, a 36 year old half brother and his wife, and I.  She is very worried about how to celebrate her 16th birthday.  Having her best friend put on a bash only seems to point out to her how friendless she is (which doesn't usually bother her).  She's looking for alternate ideas for a celebration other than a party or just going out to dinner with her family.  We've talked about going to NYC (we live about three hours north) but she's lukewarm about that.  Any ideas out there?
Sounds like your daughter knows what you like - how sweet.
nm
Your daughter sounds so sweet!. . . sm
She clearly understood the situation. I used to be a massage therapist and people would "invite" me to their parties to do chair massages for free and to pass out my business cards when I first started out. I only did it a couple of times and realized they really weren't doing me any favors and just wanted to get a free massage for themselves and their friends. But that was my business, and I am sure you weren't in the business of painting toenails. Are these rich and snooty women? I would definitely not remain friends with Pam. She obviously thinks that she is in a class above you to even make an offer like that. It's too bad you lost a friend, but she doesn't sound like a very good friend to have made you feel so bad.
How my daughter got her credit started
I years ago put my son on my credit card and paid it well and then he automatically had great credit. My daughter got credit with a small amount at a store here in town that would give credit easily. I told her to do this, pay the payments as she should and even a little more and there it was, good credit for her. She now has ecxellent credit and has loads of past and present accts she has been responsible for.
Ah yes, my daughter is 6 and it started in Kindergarten and I'm seeing SM

That is probably will never end until she graduates!  Just a couple of days ago she went over to a friends house to play only to call me an hour later to say that her friend had another friend over as well and they were being mean to her.  My daughter wasn't all that upset actually.  Just sort of matter of fact about it all.

I've just let her work it out on her own and they always do.  I can't tell you how many times she came home from school saying "I'm mad at Abby and I'm not going to be her friend anymore" only to come home the next day and ask if Abby can spend the night on Friday.

I think you handled it fine.  The key is to make sure you act like it's just all no big deal.

My daughter started group counseling sm

She meets with the school psychologist once a week and other kids from her grade who all have coping issues, and they work on their social skills.  She is 9.  Maybe your school has a similar program?  Or maybe some internet research would turn up some group counseling in your area.

Good luck to you and your son!

A beautiful picture and a beautiful message. s/m
Here's wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving Day!  We truly do have a lot to be thankful for.
Type 1 requires insulin, type 2 does not - sm
that is the basic difference. Type 2 can be controlled by diet changes and/or medication (pills). My MIL has type 2 which runs in her family, no one is obese either. She controls it with diet and medication. Your dermatologist I think is wrong. Doesn't your husband know which type he has?
Haven't started shopping yet, but have started saving $$$
Don't have an awful lot yet, but both hubby and I are doing it (separate accounts) so we should have a good amount when we combine. My goal is to start shopping in September after my daughter's birthday and finish by Thanksgiving. That's my goal. I have never reached it! Maybe this year!
And FYI, the thread we are posting in right now was one I started, you started the earlier one. nm

Sweet-chocolate; not sweet-cheese. nm

Adorable! Sweet, sweet, sweet!. thanks.nm.
nm
I haven't started yet, but have started my lists.
The only reason I haven't started yet is because of $$$. But I have started some good lists for the kids and the DH. I actually have some good ideas for him this year (he is hard to buy for).

I'm like you, I love Christmas but hate the commercialism of it. We were at Costco a while back looking for Halloween costumes and they already had their Christmas stuff out. They always make me feel like I'm already late on my shopping!

I may do a lot of online shopping this year. It's easier with little ones. My 2yo is more aware this year so taking him with me to buy his own presents is out. Darn!

It always seems that Halloween (my favorite) takes forever to get here, but once it's over, then the holiday rush is on.

Happy Holidays everyone!
I'm older than dirt, too, and older

than the 2 posters below me.

I remember when gas was $.25 a gallon when I got my driver's license and first car.

The first car my dad had was a LaSalle with running boards. After that, he bought all Hudsons and then Ramblers. He never owned a Chevy.

My first car was a ི Chevy, green and White, that my dad paid $12 for (cost of the tag). My uncle gave it to him and was a stick shift. I never drove an automatic until I was 20 and bought my own car with my own money. I paid $1500 for a ྀ Rambler Classic, 4 door (my first 4 door, too) in turquoise blue. My dad was mad because I didn't pick the Navy blue and white stick shift Rambler because it was cheaper.

My allowance was $1.50 a week and to make money, I chauffered all my friends around plus to school and back for $.25 a week.

And, I just turned another year older on Monday. Ugh! Thank heavens, no one in my family wished me HB. I quit counting 20 years ago.

What a sweet, sweet face!
I have tears in my eyes.  I will see what I can do about getting him a hat from PA.  Do you know do they just want ball caps or would a beanie be okay, too?
Sweet or not sweet cornbread?
x
Daughter's phone is daughter's responsibility. Valuable lesson learned.
It should be between the daughter and the friend if the friend is going to pay any of the fees. They are teenagers, not preschoolers.
Beautiful
What a beautiful dog. Good luck with her. As a side note, I was very sorry to hear about your dog's passing.
He is beautiful...
there are so many, many poor ones at shelters and other places waiting for a home.  some who may be put down if they do not have someone to rescue them from a sad, sad fate.  have you considered one of these * outcasts * who are just waiting for some loving person to come their way...stop at their cage....and say * that's the one i want ! *
If you are 30 or older.

If you are 30 or older you will think this is hilarious!!!!

When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were when they were growing up; what with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning ... uphill BOTH ways.. yadda, yadda, yadda.

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way in he*ll I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard I had it and how easy they've got it!

But now that I'm over the ripe old age of thirty, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today. You've got it so easy! I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a dam n Utopia! And I hate to say it but you kids today you don't know how good you've got it!

I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have The Internet. If we wanted to know something, we had to go to the dam n library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalog!!

There was no email!! We had to actually write somebody a letter with a pen! Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox and it would take like a week to get there!

There were no MP3's or Napsters! You wanted to steal music, you had to hitchhike to the dam n record store and shoplift it yourself!

Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ'd usually talk over the beginning and @#*% it all up!

And talk of about hardship? You couldn't just download porn! You had to steal it from your brother or bribe some homeless dude to buy you a copy of "Hustler" at the 7-11! Those were your options!

We didn't have fancy c rap like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal, that's it!

And we didn't have fancy Caller ID Boxes either! When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was! It could be your school, your mom, your boss, your bookie, a collections agent, you just didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!

We didn't have any fancy Sony Play Station video games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like "Space Invaders" and "asteroids" and the graphics sucked a$$! Your guy was a little square! You actually had to use your imagination! And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen forever! And you could never win. The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!

When you went to the movie theater there no such thing as stadium seating! All the seats were the same height! If a tall guy or some old broad with a hat sat in front of you and you couldn't see, you were just SC rewed!

Sure, we had cable television, but back then that was only like 15 channels and there was no onscreen menu and no remote control! You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on!
You were sc rewed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off your a$$ and walk over to the TV to change the channel and there was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning. Do you hear what I'm saying!?! W e had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons, you spoiled little rat-s!

And we didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat something up. We had to use the stove or go build a frigging fire ... Imagine that! If we wanted popcorn, we had to use that stupi*d JiffyPop thing and shake it over the stove forever like an idio*t.

That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today have got it too easy. You're spoiled.

You guys wouldn't have lasted five minutes back in 1980!

Regards,
The over 30 Crowd

It is beautiful.......our vet sent this to us

I am older than most and what I would do
is I probably would not like the idea 1 bit about his growing hay, I believe you said, on her property. Surely there would be another place besides her's that he could do this. In my last marriage, 2 women (1 was my boss at that time) had affairs with my husband. Both women were welcomed into my home, big mistake and 1 a neighbor, 1 an ex-boss. This just does not smell like a good situation to me at all because first of all you have concerns up front. You should basically listen to your inner self. If it seems wrong, usually is. I would not befriend. Remember doing that for my new boss in town, visited in her home, shared my hubby's knowledge of things to fix around the home with her and pretty soon even the husband.
Older than you and what I think
I have been married now for close to 10 years and still honeymooning so I just do not get 2 years and already looking but having said that, he probably will continue to do this. I would not mind so much his looking but probably might take it further with maybe meeting up with someone? Your spending a night away would do nothing for the relationship- this would just give him more time to spend on the computer and he would. There are a lot of men who like porn but if it is something that would bother you, cut your losses while you can because he probably would not change- after 2 years of marriage and already looking?
That is beautiful...
That is a wonderful way to honor your sister. So sorry for your loss.
She is just beautiful!

Her eyes are killer...they look like amber gemstones.  You can say what you want, but I'll bet my lunch SHE is the queen of the roost and you are the one at her beck and call!  ;-)  That's how they operate...tricky little things they are!

He is a beautiful pup.
nm
He's beautiful!
And he'll be beautiful even with a bob tail with that long coat. My sister had a Manx with a long coat like that, born with just a bump for a tail, and she looked just like a bunny.

So this is you? You are so beautiful SM
Don't be hard on yourself.  So what if you are not 20 years old?  There is true beauty that comes from age.  Thanks for posting - I enjoyed seeing it!
WOW... that is BEAUTIFUL!!! Did she
.
Beautiful dog!
Is that a huskie?  Be sure and come back with more pics when you bring Bear home!  Love the puppy pictures!
he is beautiful!

He must be happy to have found a home!  Have fun!!

I think she is quite beautiful
but she would be even more so with some curves. I just don't get that emaciated look, it looks hard to me. I think Scarlet Johansson is quite a vision.
Very beautiful
I love their eyes.
BEAUTIFUL!

What a beautiful boy, I am so

Beautiful here too, but....
I'm in Upstate NY too and I just checked the weather for next week. They're calling for possible snow on Tuesday and the temperature is dropping too, not more than 45 starting Saturday. Kids are on spring break next week and I'm off for the week too and bad weather, figures.
how beautiful!
where are you located?
Aww! She is beautiful!
x
Probably older. LOL s/m
We have "Grapes of Wrath" in our movie library.  When I'm feeling down about the economy, I get it out and watch it.  I pray to God we don't see anything like that again but I fear we are  headed in that direction.
LOL! i know i'm getting older! sm
usually i'm right on time. i know exactly when i'm going to start. i know exactly when i'm ovulating. sometimes i think i'll be glad to go through the change and not deal with this any more. but i know going through the change isn't fun either.

i did start, finally. figures, once i buy the test, i start! haha!
merry christmas everyone
BEAUTIFUL!
