I was lucky - I had some canned Nutro Max but my kitty didn't like it, (sm)

which is unusual for her. Usually she'll eat just about any kind of canned food. When I read about the recall, I had 3 cans of it and I tossed it out. But FIRST, I wrote "RECALLED" on the can in Marks-A-Lot, just in case any dumpster-divers got hold of it and wanted to feed it to their cat. So for now we're sticking to Friskies & Fancy Feast wet, and Royal Canin dry cat food.

Nutro Dry Cat Food Recall
On 05/21/2009, a recall was issued for various varieties of Nutro dry cat food.  This is for all 50 states and I believe 11 countries.  Please check the FDA website for recall information in case links are not allowed here.    The food has excess zinc and not enough potassium.
You're lucky (or he's lucky) the parents care

I have 2 kids just down at the end of the block from me and their parents don't give a rat's behind what they're doing.  They're real smart alecks - ages 10 and 12 (?), both in elementary school.  Apparently, they're quite the bullies at school, too.  They like to mouth to any adults when they whiz by on their bikes.  Is it wrong that I'd love to take my kids' BB guns and shoot their tires out when they're doing this?

Their mom doesn't care.  When we first moved into town this past fall (short-term thing while we're building in the country), I felt sorry for them.  They put on a good act.  After a few weeks of them coming to our house and pretending to want to play with the boys, we soon realized they were freeloaders -- wanted to eat everything in my fridge (without even asking first) and then wanted to play our computers or video games (without my kids).  I put the klinks on that real fast.  After that, they started treating my kids like crap.  I told my boys as long as they didn't do anything physical to just ignore them because they didn't care if they got in trouble and neither did their parents.  Their mom even had the balls to come looking for them 1 night after they didn't go home.  It was 9 o'clock at night and it got dark then around 7.  I couldn't believe it.

Just a few weeks ago, the 2 perps beat another kid with a baseball bat at the ballfield.  The cops were at their house quite a bit, but I see they're back out on their bikes again wreaking havoc.  I can't wait till we move back out to the country!

Anything canned

Paper products, plastic cups, utensils, toliet paper, diapers, pads, sunscreen,  baby wipes for sponge baths, etc. There may be no way to wash dishes.

Water. Fill up your tub  and all trash cans so you can flush your toliet.

Bleach... You can't have enough bleach

Brand name trash bags. Wet stuff is heavy.

Lotrimine or anti-fungal cream.. walking in wet stuff..

Soda. They give out ice eventually. Everyone ends up with more ice and water bottles than they know what to do with. Soda is great if the smell of mold makes you sick.

Drink mixes, if you get MREs they all don't come with kool-aid LOL.

Canned fruit, cups of fruit, applesauces, granola bars, chips, cookies, cereal, anything from the processed cereal and snack areas! Granola mix is great!!!! Crakcers and pb are filling too.

Canned meat like tuna and chicken.

Fresh fruit until it goes bad.

Cleaning supplies, with no power the mold gets really bad.

Fabreeze or something to spray your gross clothing with!

ENTERTAINMENT. There is so much waiting.

Canned Food
Have you tried him on mostly canned food rather than dry?  Wet is better for cats than dry, particularly CRF cats.
What to do with canned tomatos
I have bought canned tomatos for something which didn't work out.  Any ideas so they don't go to waste (p.s. - we don't eat beef).  They are S&W tomatoes with italian seasoning.  Would it just be too bland to serve them over some cooked pasta?  I'm not the most creative cooks and have been known to burn water.  HA HA
Don't buy the canned ones. They are gross.

Last year we bought a bag of potatoes, and didn't use them before they started to sprout. Then I baked all of them and froze them in freezer bags.  Took one out of freezer and thawed in microwave when we wanted one.  Delicious.  I just put butter on mine.

canned air not bad for environment today...

Fluoroethanes don't have chlorine atoms. This means they aren't CFCs, and thus they do not deplete the ozone layer. No offense, but unless you have information these dusters contain chlorofluoroethanes (not likely as these have been phased out for quite some time now) or that fluoroethanes are proven to have some other harmful effects, you really need to think before spreading misinformation.  By spreading this misinformation, you are giving (knowledgeable) environmentalists a bad name.

Canned meat - the spinach of Dog

Canned tomatoes are very versatile

Not bad with cubed tofu, either.  Also, what about vegetarian lasagna, eggplant parmesan, vegetable soup.  More recipes are here, some vegetarian, but you can always substitute ground turkey or leave out the beef.

Mac n Cheese with canned tuna
I know it sounds gross, but it is totally awesome!

Also, a great next day meal for left over pork chops: Pork Fried Rice (my way lol)

Cut the pork chops up in pieces. Cook enough rice for however many are eating, and then in a skillet put a little bit of oil and cook a couple of eggs (I do one per person). Scramble them up and then take them out and set them apart in a bowl. Add a little more oil to the skillet, and throw in the rice. Stir it around for a few minutes, and then add salt and pepper, some terriyaki sauce, and half a bag of frozen mixed veggies (green beans, corn, and carrots). Stir this around until the veggies are thawed but still a little crisp. Add the egg back in and stir it all up. If you have sesame seeds throw those in.

Oh and don't forget to put the pork back in!

That's one of my hubby's faves that I make.
Yes, canned food is very good for cats SM
I give my 3 cats one can a day. It has water in it, so it keeps them well-hydrated. My cats love the new Meow Mix wet food. They have been eating it for a year without any problems at all.
Actually it is answering the one who said should be canned, creating hostile
work place- yours was not a good working situation also. I think people, unless in your situation, just do not realize what a problem others have. It is not something you try to do by making so many trips to the bathroom. People working for others sometimes just have to suck up things and as my mother would have said, consider the source- if you are rude, crude, inconsiderate, lacking manners- a person fits this category and you just take with a grain of salt and overlook others like this.
Love canned tomatoes!. Here are some ideas.
Put some frozen bean and cheese burritos in cassarole, pour tomatoes (doesnt matter if they are any flavor or not) over them, add cheese on top and bake at 350 til hot and cheese melted and brown. Or mix with chicken broth, chicken, cumin, pepper flakes (optional), other fave spices and make mexican chicken soup. Top with strips of toasted tortillas. Cook shredded chicken in tomatoes with fave mexican spices and serve on tortillas for mexican chicken rolls. Again, doesnt matter if called Italian tomatoes, will work with anything.
Looks like someone needs to get a life. The canned creamed soups from Campbell
are delicious, healthy (if you use Healthy Choice), and makes endless recipes WITH chicken breasts, fresh veggies, etc. You'd never be invited to our home because we use A LOT of canned stuff! Merry Christmas!
Any recipe ideas that can use canned tuna and rice?

I'm scraping the bottom of my pantry barrel so to speak.  I just found canned tuna that I forgot I had and a box of instant brown rice.  Any ideas on combining those two?

Thanks.

Is it safe to drink unopened canned items
That have been refrigerated for a couple weeks. Found a can of pineapple juice my husband put in the refrigerator a couple weeks ago, but didn't open. I know it's not safe to put open cans in the refrigerator, not sure about something that has not been opened yet.
I've used canned tomatoes in tossed salad in the wintertime...
because I can't stand the plastic tomatoes they sell out of season in the store. I also use them in tuna salad, chicken salad, etc. In summer, we grow our own, but for winter the canned ones are great, especially the petite-diced.
I've given dry + canned + cubed skinless chicken breasts.
Snacks have been:

1. Generic "beggin' strips" like you.
2. Cheese bits, but little or no other dairy.
3. Now and then (expensive), dried chicken strips that have glucosamine & chondroitin for joints. Otherwise, I use a powder with G & S that says it also adds fiber. A couple of tbsp of this mixed in their food per day.

The chicken I add is one breast between two dogs AM and PM, so they each get one whole chicken breast per day (skinless, removing any fat). I also let them lick the two baking dishes whenever I fix the chicken. Now and then they also do the dinner dishes in order to save on our hot water bill. They're such good kitchen help I've been trying to get them dishwasher jobs, but the only restaurant that was interested didn't offer benefits. :)
Not a dessert. And what is it with all this canned stuff. People use fresh these days. Cook a sm
chicken breast, for goodness sake.  Do not open a can and serve it to guests.
Our Chihua/rat terrier mix will eat any kind of fruit, even canned stuff. And fresh

I didn't say her decor didn't sound great.
It's not ridiculous.

I would seriously doubt the Christianity of anyone who feels it is okay to celebrate Halloween. It is anti-God in every aspect.

You can only service 1 God and the folly of man and carnality is in direct conflict with holiness.

Thanks - I didn't realize they didn't like the smell of citrus
I have the feeling he doesnt have a UTI and he's trying to tell me something else, but I'll be taking him to the vets to be safe.
I am so sorry for you and your kitty....

Kitty
Glad to hear your cat is doing better! Something that may be helpful - I had a cat who made it to 17 yearsw of age. Three years before he passed, he was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. It was difficult to get him to take the medication by mouth, so my vet suggested getting the med made up at a compounding pharmacy. The med was in the form of a paste that went behind his ear, and that ensured he got the med and we didn't have to hassel every day.

My cat died about 2 months ago.  She stopped eating, drank a little bit, just stayed in the closet flat out.  I couldn't afford to take her to the vet ($75.00 to euthanize) and I could tell that she wasn't in pain.  She purred and let me pat her once in a while, but for the most part she stayed in the closet.  She finally crawled to the back of the closet and died, I hope peacefully.  I miss her.  I want another cat (have had them all my life) but will not get one unless/until I have the money to properly take care of her when necessary.  Last July she had several rotten teeth.  The vet removed all but 5 of her teeth ($600.00) which I am still paying out.  She was about 14-15, so up in years.  I feel for you.  My gut feeling, though, is to euthanize her before it's a weekend and you can't do anything and she's in pain.  You're only prolonging the inevitable, IMO.  Take care.
My kitty

Thank you to everyone who helped me through these last couple of weeks with my beautiful cat with bone cancer.  We finally put her to sleep yesterday and it was very difficult for us but for her it was very quick and nontraumatic.  The hardest part for her was the ride down to the vet's because she hates/hated that part.  We then took her to the cremation place and should have her ashes back within a week.  I didn't write until now because my heart is still very sad.  I still haven't picked up her "things" around the house but will probably try to do that tonight or I may only be able to do a couple of things at a time, but that's okay.

I wrote about our milk prices here and it got me thinking how we probably won't have to buy as much milk now or the whole roasted chickens at Costco we used to buy for her.  She would share some with us but it was really Mochi's chicken.  She would come running in from outside whenever we cooked chicken too.  Plus she would do what we called "praying to the refrigerator God" for something good to eat, she would sit in front of the refrigerator doors and just stare at it or sometimes rub up against it until we opened it up and found something in there for her.

We hadn't been able to let her outside for a month or so so that she could warm herself in the sun, so I think she is very happily sunning herself right now, in no pain.

So sorry about your kitty...

Sounds like you did all you could and provided a wonderful home.

My new kitty-cat's name is - sm
CHARLOTTE! :)

The weekend passed with less hissing & more acceptance by my other cat. I found that feeding them at the same time (one eats on the floor, the other up on the kitchen table) seems to make them relax around each other. Charlotte sleeps in bed with me with her head on my arm, and occasionally communicates with either a little 'silent meow' or else her signature 'quacking' sound. If I say 'quack-quack' to her, she says it back. ;)
Kitty
We have a laser pointer that we play with them with. They go crazy over it.

Also, I have a Roomba vacuum....oh my Lord...worth the money just for the comic relief they provide.
My kitty
I'm so sorry about your baby My cat was 16 years old and I believe she had a stroke. She has been pretty sick getting very skinny and one night she had her head tilted to the side and she couldn't move it. I don't know for sure but I think she suffered a stroke. Unfortuately, I didn't have any say in the matter. She passed away that night in March. It's still so hard for me to talk about. I miss her every day. I'll send prayers to you and your cat that she doesn't suffer and you'll know when it's time I'm sure.
kitty
If you feel that strongly you should go get him. You could take him to a shelter or just keep him. I'm sure you probably could find a home for him yourself if you needed to.
My kitty... see pic hopefully
This is Jory Jack Anthony SkippyJon Jones. :)

kitty uti
Hi - I totally understand your problem. My kitty has had severel UTIs and the doc put her on amoxicillin. It did work for her, but he also prescribed Urinary-SO, which is a special diet to keep the kidneys in good health. It's kind of pricey, but worth it so far. You can't buy it over the counter and have to buy it from your veterinarian. Hope this helps. As all us girls know, UTIs are VERY painful.
kitty ?
Always happy to see a cat lover....the ruler of my house, my 8yo female, occasionally does this. Don't know why. She has always used the litter box since day #1. My little boy is 4y/o and he will do the same thing, may be a copy cat, Boo, Hiss...anyway,I've never figured out why they do this. No pattern, not mad, no fights. Just happens occasionally. If you figure out why, other than just being cats and knowing they can do it, pls let me know.
Kitty and the Computer
My kitty likes to lay at my feet on my pedals.  The long hair gets inside and causes them not to work properly.  I am on my third pedal in 2+ years.   You have to love being able to work from the comfort of your home though . . . with your cat by your side.  I wouldn't trade it for the world. Just wish I could fall into a better work-at-home job.
Our little kitty just had to be euthanized....
because of liver and kidney failure. Please make sure if you have pets that you check regarding the recent recall of pet food. I had a couple of cans of Iams for him to try and I think that may have been what happened to him, will never know for sure. He was so sweet, a little orange and white guy, could always make me laugh chasing the laser pointer and flashlight, loved to chase the crawl on the bottom of the news programs on TV. Have to finish my day typing through tears....
I hope your kitty comes out better than ever!
My husband and I spend the moolah that we don't even have on our animals, but we wouldn't have it any other way.
Saw the kitty tonight!
We went to see the cat tonight.  She is doing as well as can be expected.  Very happy to see us.  Apparently, she does not like the tech who is watching her (stranger to her) but started to purr as soon as I scratched behind her ears.  Plus I brought her bed.  I just hope we brought some comfort to her.  It was very hard to leave though.  Once again, you all are a great group and your kind words are much appreciated!
My male kitty
when he first came to live with us he was a mere 6 weeks old, and he would drink from the water bowl while "standing" on the edge of the bowl (front paws only) which looked silly but cute too!  Then, he rapidly grew and grew and began to tip the water bowl over when doing that, so thankfully he stopped, but now I notice him sliding his paws (slowly) in a digging motion before drinking and can't help but notice  how noisey he is when he drinks, he sounds like a dog lapping or a bird taking a bath! Boys!
Congratulations on your new kitty!

She sounds sweet!  I swear by a liquid called Ration Plus.  I first got it for my equines who had weight problems and gas.  It's a prebiotic that works in their hindgut to regulate things...makes food stick to the ribs and helps with things like diarrhea and gas.  I also give it to my dogs now and again and even my old senior cat.  I put it right on their food and they gobble it right up.

HOWEVER, it does not state anywhere on their website or the label that it is appropriate for cats.  I just wrote to them actually, just now, to find out if it was safe for felines.  I know I've been feeding it to my cat now for over a year, one or two times a week as a top dressing on his food, and haven't had any problems and he looks great.  I will let you know what they say about it.

Fantastic results and a bottle lasts a long, long time.

Here's their company website: http://www.rationplus.com/dog.html
but I buy it from pet places because it's usually cheaper that way.

Your kitty is adorable!
I love hearing about everyone's cats and seeing their pics. I have a fully black 11 year old cat named Roscoe who is not too bright, shall we say. LOL. He chases his tail like a dog, and he's the biggest scardey cat around. I had a 16 year old cat that passed away in April and I miss her every day.
Here's the kitty I just adopted!

She's an 8 year old Exotic Shorthair Persian named Charlotte.  Her little tongue sticks out all the time, 'cuz her face is so flat & her mouth is so small.  She's tiny - and only weighs about 5-1/4 lbs. right now.  Needs to gain a pound or two.)  She's a total cuddle-bug!

(She just came out to say hi to me - she was annoyed with me earlier because I had to give her a pill.  Not easy with that tiny little mouth!)  Whenever I'm on the computer, she sits on the back of my chair and "helps".

my sister's kitty
had a stroke, he was a siamese and was 19 years old.. He unfortunately was not suffering; however, could not walk and had other multiple problems, thus she decided to mercifully put him to sleep. It was painful, but comes a time that you just know it is right... hope your kitty gets better....
What a talented kitty. Very

Hmm, I wonder if the talented kitty above

Bless you and your kitty
We lost our 18-yo girl two years ago to renal failure. She didn't meow a lot, but seemed to really enjoy being held more than she ever did when she was younger. Just spend quality time with her; you'll never regret it.
That must be a BIG kitty. Do you have a picture?
NM
What the life this kitty cat has!

Oh and I love your "blanket" on your bed?  Can I have that?  It looks so luxurious especially this time of night after typing all day!  What a life!  I want to be a cat in my next life!

This is our cat!  This is around the holidays, and my 7-year-old thought she'd jazz her up a bit, but I'm not so sure she is liking it.  She does like having pictures taken though!

Hope your cat feels better soon; she is just beautiful!     GET WELL SOON AIDA!
