In Georgia, we receive permission slips also.

I don't think they should have to check every child's record before administering any MEDICAL testing, but I definitely think permission slips are in order.

In Florida where we lived, we did get permission slips
nm
I grew up in FL, too, and we got these every couple of years, no permission slips. sm
I forget who did it, but it was one of the service organizations in town. The Lions Club did the hearing tests, somebody else did vision. They do it as a service to those families who either can't afford the exam or are just ignorant to the fact that it should be done. There's nothing invasive about it, it's a service to the community. I understand your kid has a special situation, but save your energy for something bigger.
The slips were called petticoats,
and some girls wore more than one (extremists everywhere). They wore bobbie socks they could roll down (almost anklet), some wore flats and some in the 50's wore oxford loafers or just plain loafers. If you wore loafers, you had to put a coin in each shoe on the top. You would also note a lot of scarves worn rolled over into a band and tied with a knot on the back under the ponytail or the knot pulled to one side - and don't forget the bubblegum. The scarf should also have colors more or less from the skirt with a white cotton button down shirt, short sleeves. I was there, but too young for sock hops, could not wait, and then they did not have them anymore. Story of my life.
If I have the money for something I can buy it - without asking permission! nm

For several years I signed a permission slip
for a scoliosis test for my daughter. I know she has a curve. She has to go for an x-ray every year to see if there has been any progression, and there has been slight progression but not enough to do anything yet. I have never once recieved anything from the school stating that we should get this checked. School nurse has always said she was fine.
What kind of parent gives their child permission to break the law?
How do you know for sure there's only going to be 3 people there? Any adults? What kind of alcohol? How much? Will she end up in the ER close to death from alcohol poisoning? She knows it's not right or she wouldn't have asked. Telling her it's okay to break the law - you'd better hope nothing bad happens, she will be telling the police or whatever that she had your permission (and are you going to lie and deny it, putting it all on her?)
ask and you shall receive
I have not seen this movie. and no I have no desire to. It is just not a movie that a christian mother would allow her children to see. Done. Now I am getting to work.
what if you don't receive your pay?
Hi there, I am just getting done a job I have had since 2001, and I have a gut feeling that I will not be receiving my last two checks. Not to do with my work at all, but the boss is pissed off and happens to be my daughter as well, so if this turns out to be the case, what recourse do we have to collect what is owed us? I thought maybe someone else out there had run into this, probably not with the "family issue" added, but similar. Thanks for any thought you might have on this kind of issue. I really need those checks to pay my bills!
Just because you receive an invitation
does not mean you have to go to the event. All you had to do was decline.
We were fortunate enough to receive one for coal...sm
Considering the high cost of heating oil, natural gas, and kerosene, we're very grateful...Thanks, Santa.  Cat
At least 2 of the kids are dev disabled and receive SSI. nm

Wow. I didn't realize the response I was going to receive. Let me all tell you a little sm
something about me (for a change).

I am a very intimate, romantic, sexual (close your eyes if this is offensive), kind of gal. Seriously. My mother always told me I was a "hopeless romantic!" One of my favorite movies is Pretty Woman, for crying out loud. For years, I would shop in the lingerie dept. at various dept. stores, even buying things from Victoria's Secret, mind you. But if there is one thing my husband has done to me over the years is help me to completely lose interest in intimacy and now, sex. He doesn't listen to me, doesn't compliment me, doesn't touch me at all during the day. It's saddened me so much over the past few years. If we meet up after work he'll just go on about his business, not reaching to give me a kiss, ask me about my day, nothing.

The fact that he approached me the other night was actually surprising. Yes, he's trying. But what is a woman to do when after so many years of neglect? Jump at him? Tackle him? I can't. I simply can't. I'm suffering from low self worth as it is due to his lack of communicating any kind of affection or concern to me. I don't know how to gain it back. I don't know how to get back that spark. It's not there. It saddens me so much, but it's true.
So, give me a little more credit.
I agree, they should receive more respect from students

and parents alike. I just don't believe they are underpaid for the actual hours they put in.

The idea of gift giving is not to receive anything in
Either give from the heart or don't give at all.  Expect nothing in return and if you do get something, then consider it a blessing including a thank you.  In God's eyes, this is what Christmas giving is truly about and isn't this all over the fact that you are child's Godparents? I think you should think about that for a minute and what responsibility that holds in this young girl's life..........  It sort of sounds like this is about you and not about what God would want.
I did not receive any child support, so we agreed to
split all bills evenly as we have joint custody. That is what our papers say, that we split all major expenses, i.e., clothes, school supplies, education fees, etc.
How important is it to you to receive a sympathy card

How important is it for you to receive a sympathy card?  I know this has been quite a long time now (3 years), but still bothers me.  My mom died 3 years ago and I received only 3 cards.  One from my DH's aunt & uncle and my best friend sent me 2 cards.  Nobody else sent me a card.  My MIL, BIL (3 of them - all married), SIL, co-workers (8 of them), people in my quilting guild that I've been quilting with for years and years.  None of them.  I went back for the funeral and listed to my sister and aunt tell each other about how many cards they got and how much they were loved by their friends (they made it into a joke as to who was more loved by who got more cards :-)  My sister got about 18 or 20 cards and my aunt got about 30.  They said they were sure when I got back I'd have many cards waiting for me (I flew back 2 days after hearing of my moms death).  My sister even offered me some of her cards.  I came home and had just the 3 cards.  My best friend also send me some "cheering up gifts".  But still nothing from anyone.  I never said anything to DH but it bothered and still does bother me that people thought so little of me than to send me a card letting me know they were thinking about me.  The worst thing was that I always sent them birthday, anniversary, and sympathy cards to them.  I even would send them sympathy cards when their pets died.

Well I'm over it, but every once in awhile I think about it and it just saddens me.  So now I don't send any of them any cards for anything.  Just wondered if it bothers other people like it did me.

georgia
I lived in GA for 1 year last year but didn't have quite that bad weather.  I know the lightening can be pretty intense.  I hope it misses you.  I say a prayer :)
As far as I know, Georgia
is still considered southern. My hubby born and raised in Georgia also. Let me know if I am wrong here.
Unfortunately, here in Georgia, it is
my understanding that there is not any law stating at which age a child may be left home alone. When I called DFACS several years ago regarding this, I was told the above and that DFACS has guidelines that they use (which were ridiculous -- I believe it was 8 years old okay to stay by themselves and maybe a couple of years older to be left in charge of a sibling/younger child). I believe this was about 6 years ago.

Anyway, because these are DFACS guidelines only and are not the law, there is no way to enforce this and unless a tragedy occurs there is no punishment.
Yep here too...Georgia

Same as Georgia, still does not mean
the mothers have to accept crumbs. I hope they get some good lawyers but even just the threats of what can be taken away wakes guys up sometimes.
GEORGIA!!!
I would move to Alabama, because of the no work tax, but in most places sales tax is 10%.
Here in middle Georgia, we are just
happy not to have the 100s. Reasonable now at 76 today. Gosh, fall… oh, yes, that is when the leaves all fall.
I don't think it is a requirement in Georgia -
However, my concern is that this is an effective preventative measure and people are not getting it for their daughters. You do not have to be promiscious to get it and believe me it causes lots of problems later.

I only had sex with one man - my husband - before being diagnosed with HPV - and he had only had sex with one other person.

I now have constant female problems and the doctor says it is because of the HPV. My paps come back bad and I have to have the LEEP procedures done routinely, or have biopsies done, I have to have paps every 3 months instead of yearly. I have constant bacterial infections and vaginitis.

Goodness knows, I wish I had had the option of having a vaccine to prevent this stuff before I became sexually active with my husband.
Very happy news, Georgia.

Georgia has a no public smoking law...sm
and it's great going to restaurants, stores, etc without smelling cigarettes. Restaurants can only allow smokers if they don't admit anyone under age 18 and they have to have a ventilation system that meets a certain strict criteria with the state.
Look up sometime about Alday family in Georgia
Everyone in the town knew each other, church going, great little town, safe, so everyone thought. The family slaughtered - oh not by one of their own - by outsider. Farm family. Raped the wife (who was daughter, DIL of the others, all related) and killed oh, I think 6 or 7 in the family. Got in because all the doors unlocked. This was not this year nor the last 10- more like 20 years or so ago. I remember as such a savage thing. They did live in a nice little town where everyone knew everyone.
LOL! If you don't like the weather in Georgia, just hang around SM
a while and it will change soon!
Assisted suicide here in Georgia
A man here in Georgia went a website called Final Exit as he had decided to end his life, had been suffering with cancer of the head, mouth, etc. Now the people who helped him have been arrested for participating. Apparently they use helium and the person or else the people around him then use a bag over his head and from what I am hearing they hold his hands because once he makes his decision and says yes, no turning back. There are some states that allow assisted suicide, Montana and Washington being a couple of them. What I want to know, I type and you probably have also of people at end of life being given morphine in the hospital to "make them comfortable" when actually all it does is speed up their demise by slowing down respiration, etc. I guess the medical profession is able to do their own "Final Exit" scenes but no one else?
Living in Georgia and loving it
Never have felt the need to move because I got frustrated, never. Moved from another state over 30 years ago and love where I live. I really hate when I see an overall blanket statement about a state being backwards. I find myself going on the offense when a person attacks a state in general when they perhaps are unhappy just for the person they are. I am sure a person can find fault with any place they might be brought up or choose to live but my community is very progressive, upscale and as much as I love to travel, hope this can be my home from here on. People make their own happiness and if you are unhappy either in your personal or business life, then perhaps you are just soured on the world, not where you live. If a person wants to move from my state, hey, just more room for the people who can enjoy their life here.
Georgia schools also socially pass....sm
I had a prior foster child that came to me in the 5th grade that tested to be on the 1st grade reading level and 2nd grade math level. Her prior schools for the past 2 years that she was in foster care before moving to me had report cards for her with A's and B's all over the place. The school here refused to hold her back because she was held back on the 1st grade due to poor attendance while living with her birth parents, even though emotionally she was 8 in a 12-year-old body.

Fortunately for this child while she was living with me we figured out her educational deficits and that she had learning disabilities. We moved her to a specialized group home that has worked with her extensively and she's now in 8th grade and back in mainstream classes. She's making C's and earning them - not having them given to her. I shudder to think what would have happened to her if she hadn't come to my home to figure out she had more problems than the system realized and helped her get the help she needed - she probably would have ended up as a statistic. She still is emotionally behind her peers but hopefully one day will catch up on that aspect. Oh yes, she also went to summer school here and that was 2 weeks - what a joke. All they did was play games half the day outside and did just a little work on reading and math.
Any Habersham County, Georgia residents out there? sm
if so please e-mail me.  We're considering moving there and I'd love to meet someone in that area.  Thanks!
Some Georgia schools have dress codes...sm
and they work with school uniform vendors to provide them really cheaply, around $7-8 for each shirt and each pair of pants or shirt.

My daughter goes to a school with a dress code and it's nice not having the "what is OK to wear to school" discussions in the morning. It also eliminates kids who come from poor families feeling inferior to other kids over their clothes.
Georgia, 30 miles south of Atlanta
lots do here, just where you live I suppose. I for 1 am glad to take hubs last name, no problem with that for me.
Live in Georgia and highly support it
If this had been the case with octomom the people would never have to support her litter.
Colorado is to snow storms as Georgia is to tornados
Oh my gosh, thought we could have a full week without a warning but here it goes again. A storm brewing out in Mississippi and might be coming this way. Home alone again with my animals. Anyone else out there with bad weather lately?
People hauled into court today here in Georgia for
watering their lawns. One guy had bench warrant put against him when he did not show up in court. We are in such a drought, first offense is $100.00 plus but the second one is $400.00 plus and after that I think your water is turned off. I wish Texas could share some with us. They don’t need and we do.

Young lady killed here in Georgia, Appalachian trail hiker
and she was enjoying going out about 2 years ago, killed on a mountain here by man posing as hiker. She was a young, vibrant lady in her 20s, he was in his 60s. I think I am getting this right when I say he used her police baton she carried for protection, wrestled it away from her and killed her with it. Is not the trail you hike on known for lot of crimes? This murder happened on that same trail where you give rides to strangers. This man was well known to other hikers there as he hung out on the trail lots of times.
Well my church is a SB church in South Georgia
So maybe you're going to the wrong SB church!
