It was wheat from China.........sm

Posted By: Magnolia on 2007-03-28

News was that China sprays some of their wheat with a rodenticide and somehow, this spray was on the wheat they shipped over to Canada. I just can't believe the Canadian company didn't check the wheat first BEFORE it went into the food.

Trade with China
... and this is only the beginning. When one considers China is still a communist country, does not have human rights let alone dignity for how it treats its animals, all I can do is shake my head. In China there is no such thing as environmental law. People and companies dump toxic waste every day in rivers and streams, excretment, human and animal, is strewn where they grow their food, animals are treated in a fashion that would horrify us, and dangerous chemicals are not controlled in their country to the extent they are here - so how can we expect them to have a standard we have been used to? And who can we hold responsible? Our government, the agency who is to supposed to protect us citizens. Since corporations run our government today, the agencies, namely the FDA can only do so much. The FDA in itself is in dire need of overhauling. This is a dangerous gray area we are entering. Coporations have much protection and sanctions when it comes to their business practices, and how much legally they are required to tell the consumer. The time has come for the American public to demand more from the companies we purchase products from, and as I always say, ADVOCATE, ADVOCATE, ADVOCATE. It is our right and responsiblity as American citizens to address these issues and demand change.

China will take over the world in about 2040

Have you noticed the fortune cookies coming from Chinese restaurants?  At least where I live, these papers in the fortune cookies are now teaching the Chinese alphabet and Chinese words.  You think this is subliminal?  The folks who know Chinese and Mandarin language here in the states will have an easier time of it WHEN China takes over the world by understanding the language way ahead of time.

Question about my new China cabinet
First one I have ever owned, has 3 tiers and I have china to put in it plus I have some crystal. My question- does it make any difference what shelf each is on or not? Am not going to have enough to half fill it so any suggestions?
It doesn't have to be filled with china. SM
You can put anything in there with the china. Books, pictures, knick knacks, whatever you feel looks good. It would be nice to add some color, since glassware is clear and china might be light.
Breakfront China cabinet
I recently bought a new breakfront and have my China in the cabinet. This is the issue. I have 2 (maybe 3) other sets of China, 1 from a relative, that I thought perhaps I could also show in the breakfront. Has anyone else done this? I do not want it tacky looking.

replacements.com for discontinued china, etc.

you could try replacements.com.    that's where i get my discontinued waterford flutes, as well as my wedding china, & poppies on blue, which have all been discontinued.   they're in excellent condition, too!  i hope this helps, if that's what you're looking for.

Is China ready for the Olympics?

I have a barberry - thorns and china doll and boy
holly under my window where I work.  I won't be aware anything is going on until I hear a huge ruckus of twittering birds in those bushes and look out and there sits Cooper.  He has gotten mourning doves and when I was walking I saw him with a baby something this summer.  I love my birds but that hawk is gorgeous and I have been told by bird feeding stores that the hawk doesn't eat much.  It takes him many attempts to come up with a meal.

lead in toys/Made in China...beware of Happy Meal toys
I watched a special on CNN yesterday about lead content in toys. I did not realize by your child simply touching a toy and putting his fingers in his mouth he could be ingesting lead. The special included a segment on a nice family that lived in a brand new home with a 2 year old and 6 month old. They both tested positive for lead. A 2 year old!!!! Worried, I went to my boy's toybox this morning and it is AMAZING how many painted toys are from China. Most notably this includes happy meal toys. I haven't gotten through one toy box and already have a trash bag full of toys. Please, please go through your children's toys. Lead ingestion can lead to brain damage. Be paranoid. Throw away all of the made in China stuff. Christmas is just weeks away--they will be getting new stuff (hopefully stuff that is paint-free!).

Your best bet is to buy made in the USA toys but even safer toys are unpainted blocks, Legos and books. A good, safe place to look for toys is www.mindware.com.

pass this on!
