LPR

Does anyone else have LPR. I have always had heartburn on and off but now have developed severe LPR or laryngopharyngeal reflux, where the acid goes all the way up past the upper sphincter/rather than just the lower as in the typical reflux or GERD. It gets way up into the larynx, throat, even up as far as the back of nose and the ears. My throat had become very inflamed like strep throat with pain and difficulty swallowing and my head and neck glands were swollen and tender and I felt like I had bilateral ear infections. I had never even heard of this but it was finally diagnosed by the ENT after a barium swallow and I am now on PPIs which are helping some but not completely (it was pretty much constant and now it is intermittent). The doctors don't seem to know all that much about it and whether you should be treated by a GI or an ENT seems to be the question.  ENT wants me to see GI but on researching it says it is usually treated by ENT due to the related symptoms.

Interestingly, I also read that they are finding out now that many young children have this and are often misdiagnosed with either URIs, chronic ear infections, etc. so I just wanted to mention that to the parents and grandparents out there.

I guess I just wanted to know if you or anyone you know has experience with this and if/how it is being treated, by whom, and if the treatment is helping.

Thanks
