Mammogram

I had my mammo yesterday and it was actually a pleasant experience. They were so professional, caring and as gentle as they could be. I didn't even mind exposing myself at all, which I was dreading. I felt very comfortable with the female tech. The radiologist read the films right away and let me know right there it was negative which I thought was great. I urge all of you to go if you have been putting it off for whatever reason. You will feel such a sense of relief. Breast cancer if caught early can be treated successfully. The biggest ''risk factor'' for getting advanced breast cancer is to not get checked regularly.

If this post will encourage even a few of you who have been putting it off to go get checked, my job is done.

I'm sure they would first do a mammogram
to make sure there is no cancer hiding. If this mass is out toward the skin, all the more reason to try to get a digital mammogram instead of a regular one. Once they are sure of what it is, they will give you your options, one of which will be surgical removal.

Try not to worry about this. Same thing happened to me just last week, but I am quite a bit older than you. They asked me to come back in for further tests, which I did, and tomorrow will have stereotactic breast biopsy. I know it is hard not to worry, but please try!
mammogram-follow up
I was diagnosed and beat breast cancer after a very caring radiologist kept taking additional views.  I go back next month for my first mammogram, kind of scared, but I'm stronger now, so off I will go.  That was an excellent post.  I wish more people would get checked and be faithful with following.  Have a wonderful day.
Anyone have a mammogram recently?
I have to get one soon, but I am so afraid to do it.  I'm 43 and it will be my first one.  I know I should just do it, but I keep putting it off.  Just the thought of those 2 glass (?) plates smashing down on the booberoos keeps me from going through wtih it.

Can anyone who has had one recently help me out....How bad does it hurt?  How far down do they smash them?  Within one inch?  Two inches?  or just enough to get a good view?

I am a 33 y.o. female with an abnormal mammogram. sm

After the test the tech told me to wait so she can run the films by doc to see if everything was okay or if he needed more images. This was my 1st one. She returned and said she needed more images.

I waited 20 minutes.  Then she said you'll be here for a while, he wants to order an ultrasound.  I was so scared by this point.  All by myself.  No explanations.  My breasts are "lumpy" which is why my GYN sent me there in the 1st place.

I rec'd my postcard in the mail that he wants to see me AGAIN for more images. Why? Anyone with this before? He didn't recommend me to a surgeon or anything. Just more images. I haven't heard a word from my GYN either and I'm sure she's gotten the results as it's been a while now.  So, I'm going back next week for more images and I'm scared to death.

I have 3 young boys and a hopeless husband (I mean that in a good way) who can't really function without me.  Anyways, please let me know what you "think."  I just don't know. I do feel sharp pains in my left breast at times.
