My dog likes wierd stuff too, but...

Posted By: you have to be careful! sm on 2007-09-03
In Reply to: My dog just ate a piece of... - She is nuts!

My dal loves bananas and her favorite treat is icecubes. She always comes running when you open the freezer door.  You do have to be careful, because there are a lot of things that are toxic to dogs.  I saw a list on line and I was really surprised by some of the stuff on there.  I wish I had copied it or bookmarked it.  If anyone has it, it would be helpful for dog owners if they could post it here.  Some of the stuff on there were things I would not have a problem letting my dog eat.

Your kitty has spunk. Likes hot sauce, likes squirt gun.
He really actually sounds fun, in spite of all the trouble he makes. Seems like perhaps it would be worth it to go to the dollar store or dollar general and perhaps get him his own tree?
Wierd roomate
I discovered my roomate drinks a lot of booze every single night and sits in her room watching TV and going on line. She never goes on dates, or to the gym. She appears to be a full blown alchy and the TV blarring is starting to totally annoy me. She needs to leave. How can I politely tell her to go?

what's wierd about that - that's great!
x
This is going to sound wierd, but...(sm)
we actually make something like a farm cheese, add tons of chopped peppers, and viola.....a gift for my neighbor!  My neighbor bakes a lot and always has a huge plate of goodies (fudge, candies, cookies -- all homemade) for us every year.  I struggled for years with what to get them -- fruit baskets and all that, but the homemade cheese is the ticket.  She called yesterday and asked if it was ready yet....ROFL..
domestic emergencies-y'know it's a wierd day when
this week (Tue. I believe) I had to email my PS to take two 15-minute blocks off my time card to upblock the toilet and clean up the over-flow (twice)! Argghhh. I still don't know what didn't go down!

Tx for the popsicle-on-tongue boo-boo idea. Have you seen 1/2 rubbing alcohol:1/2 water and a few drops of food coloring to make ice packs?
domestic emergencies-y'know it's a wierd day when
The kids are quiet, you're typing along, when your six-year-old comes crying into the room with a needle-threader stuck to his tongue.  Drop everything to assist... Oh, the joys of working at home uninterrupted -- Any other funny dilemmas you've had to deal with?  LOL :)  Back to work after a soothing popsicle...
My 15 yo son likes to
grab the car keys and start the car if we are headed somewhere while I'm still putting on my shoes/coat or whatever.  Then when I'm walking around the front of the car to get in, he hits the horn, and of course I jump a mile becaue I'm usually deep in thought.  He thinks it's hysterical.  He's taken ten years off my life!
My son likes...
Pac Sun (sp?), we have one here in our local mall. We live in the midwest. Every time we go shopping, it seems to be the only place he wants to go. I also shop Kohl's, too, usually some really great sales.
There's another cat, but she LIKES it. Plus she
.
Try taking away something she likes!
I know it sounds harsh, but if you take away something she likes and not give her that until she finally is a "big girl", then she may want to go potty.  The other thing, I know how gross this is, but include her in your "potty time", and she may realize "Wow, Mom is a big girl, and I want to be like Mom!  It is a tough call, but my daughter went through the same thing.  I always got the "I'm too busy!"  So, I began asking her all of the time, and finally she went because she didn't want me to ask her especially in front of her brother.  She was about 4 1/2!  Good luck!
My 14 year old likes ...
The "Eragon" series by Christopher Paolini and the "Alex Rider" series by Anthony Horowitz. He picks one up and doesn't want to put them down until they are finished.
I'm glad someone else likes
Keanu besides me. Nobody I know understands why I find him so attractive. Don't know, something about him.
Why would anyone think the south only likes
country?? Ugh. I have lived here all my life and I cannot stand it. My tastes are more opera, beautiful love sounds, Gershwin. I could not tell you 1 name of a country song. Please do not group us all together. Folks just making assumptions - again.
Heehee- my cat likes to
eat one piece of cat food at a time. She will fish one piece out of the bowl with her paw onto the floor and then eat it, and then fish out another piece. Its quite facinating.
And it comes down to a lot more than what a person likes and does not s/m
like. We are talking being subjected to breathing those toxins which create a life-threatening environment.  I hope I live long enough to not have to say NONSMOKING in a restaurant. It is unthinkable that we are subjected to this in 2007. I feel for you, I really do.
Whether or not she likes him is a different story
I know sometimes more being more physical can mean that, but put it this way:

If a wife did that to her husband with a knife, would it be because she likes him?
No, but my psychiatrist likes that one. (sm)
Prozac wasn't good for me, and Wellbutrin sounded better to me. But my depression turned out to be more situational, so changing my situation seems to be the cure.
but that is her opinion too - obviously she likes them - nm
x
Since he likes people food and will eat that--sm
as opposed to some of the commercial cat foods out there, which in my opinion, are not all that beneficial either what with all the by products, etc. continue to give him the chicken and turkey. I would suggest the chicken raised without hormones and antibiotics though. He is a very smart kitty, preferring natural food (poultry) to that of what is forced upon us by the cat food producers, which have more grain than they do nourishing food. But that is just my opinion. good luck to you with your vacation for 3 weeks. Is the kitty going with you???
maybe husband just likes 'em

however, not my cuppa tea....

Our cat likes to lick anything with feathers and - sm
plastic bags (like the supermarket kind), guess is it some weird maternal instinct thing. Our lab will eat flowers on command, kids taught her to eat the dandilions in the yard, too weird.
You are most welcome! Glad kitty likes the nip!

Sometimes it works to keep them distracted, sometimes not...but we gotta try, right?!

I had leather furniture and at one point 3 cats...not a single one of them bothered with it but my fugly fabric recliner?  SHREDDED.  They seemed to take personal pleasure in getting their claws stuck in it and making it rock when they tried to unstick themselves.  Tools.  I miss that ugly chair too!

Maybe that's his story. GF likes to roll around in
x
How your likes changed much over the years?
It depends on what age range, 15-20, 21-25, 26-30 etc... like every five years, in regards to anything.

I wouldn't worry - I think he just likes the scent. (sm)
At least you know that when you've taken the same bubble bath or used the same soap, that he like how you smell!
;)
I'm a "healthy gal" as a friend of mine likes to say

Just a bit over 200 pounds now, which I never thought would happen to me.  I was always able to hover around 150 until I hit my mid 30s and then I just packed it on like a bear going into hybernation. I started WW in April and lost most of those 11 pounds right away.  Then vacation came along and I just got out of the habit. I KNOW the program works.  My grandmother did it in the 1970s and was lifetime member until the day she died.  You just have to make up your mind it's time to get serious. I'm convinced no diet or lifestyle change will stick unless you're ready to commit 100%.  I'm back on track again and hope to be in Onderland (below 200, as it is called on the WW chat boards) very quickly.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.  Like I said, it isn't easy.

my hubby always likes Best Buy gift cards,
that way he can get what music he wants, or concert DVDs, or whatever they have there (that's what everyone got him for Christmas and he was in "hog heaven").
That's a good one! EvaEv likes to correct
her own right!.  Man, I would feel like a complete a** right about now!
Well, it kinda means she likes girls.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Hah! Someone had to make that joke, darn it. :-)
You know, when you have anything achieved, someone just likes to try and bust your bubble here
I went on originally saying about what my home owner's association does not accept, including clothes lines, animals roaming loose, vegetable gardens, etc. and I said I love it here. Immediately what returned was a statement about people looking down their nose at you implying that is what I do. Someone else making statement about rural living-my present home is very much that with woods close by and deer roam through my yard sometimes. I, like loads of other transcriptionists, work as loners and tend to be that way. I am no different and love my privacy here and that is what is afforded me. One of the homes I sold was in a big city and the other was lake front which was an inheritance. People seem to like to run down what others are able to achieve. I worked hard, very hard for most that I have had and it has taken years for me to be able to get to a point where I basically do not have to worry about every cent that I spend. I have always been free with my money trying to help out others and it has come back tenfold to me. I now rescue animals because of my love for them. I never was one to be jealous of others but apparently lots I run into on this forum don’t feel the same. Hope you can enjoy the rest of your coffee.
Likes to show off in front of the boys.
xx
My mom, a southern born girl, likes her crumbled
x
he did say you can move and maybe he'll find a woman who likes his life.
nm
No, because they always put stuff in the L&F -sm
so why would this time be any different? Plus she probably would have called me at home to tell me that she took them home, she knows I am there 3 nights out of 5. Yes, I hope I am upset over nothing, but I fear that is not the case. Just makes you wonder if you can trust anyone these days.
GPS stuff

As a family we do something called "Geocaching" (geocaching.com) which uses GPSs and coordinates from the internet to do a 21st century treasure hunt.  Over the past 5 years we've had both Garmin and Magellan devices . . . if I had an option, I'd choose a Garmin.  Our first Magellan let me download maps, etc... which showed me where restaurants, hotels, etc... were, which was a super bonus on vacation with a 1-year-old and a cranky need-food-now mommy!  We vacation in Maine, and there are only so many roads, so if you can't read a map, a GPS won't help much  !  Have you tried out "www.thegpsstore.com"?  They have reviews, etc... that might help you sort out what you need, and what you really don't.  Some systems may cost $75, but you won't be able to download maps or anything.  However, the big bucks versions might have too many bells and whistles that will just make it more of a hassle than a joy.  I'd also suggest a sporting goods store, i.e. Cabellas, Dicks Sporting Goods, EMS (Eastern Mountain Sports) since the salespeople will more likely have a clue about how to use the thing and be able to tell you pros/cons of each system.

Sorry for the ramble . . . hope I didn't confuse the issue even more!

Never, but I look at the stuff on there a lot.
Money is tight right now, so I never bought, but most of the stuff is cool. Some of its just weird - once I saw homemade reusable tampons made out of bamboo and yarn I think.
I do stuff like that
I have to say that probably it is the thin skin of your daughter and not your lack of experience with death. I rarely say anything to my teenager (when they are upset) that is the "correct" thing to say. I think the drama is actually coming from these young people's first experiences with death, and I have found that teenagers can be profoundly sensitive to even the deaths of people they do not know.

You are just "mom." Your job is to keep her from going over the emotional cliff. Even when it is a member of your own family, that is still your primary job. That "everything is going to be okay" is the correct thing to say.
fun stuff!
I jumped on my sister in an elevator because I'm cool like that and because someone offered me 1,000,000 dollars.

My son's did not turn out so well at all . . .

I loved my brother under your bed because that's how I roll.
If he wants to come and get his stuff, that
is fine. But I would not have him bring an officer, I would have him set a time to do so and YOU have an officer there with your paperwork on the restraining order.
I'm sorry all that stuff happened to you, too, and
am more glad that you moved on as well!  Thanks for bringing me perspective again. I have to run now -- off to the happy world of MTing.
The stuff is awesome!
Works when nothing else does.

Anyone have MP3/IPOD stuff?? sm
i'm thinking of getting an MP3 player so when i walk i won't have this bulky CD player in my pocket.  i know you download music on it, but can you take one of your own music CDs, put that music on the computer and then download that music off the computer into your MP3?  did that make sense?  just thought i'd see if anyone here knew how that stuff works.  thanks!
Then you might want to try some fresh stuff.
I just made a turkey breast today that was very tasty. In a little olive oil, salt, and pepper, I chopped up some fresh rosemary, thyme, sage, and a couple cloves of crushed garlic. Then, I just rubbed that onto the (skinless) turkey breast.

I oven-roasted that with some vegetables, but you could put that on chicken breasts and bake or grill them. They'd be good either way.

Good luck!
Has anyone else watched this stuff?
I watched this on CNN last night and this guy had been planning this for a LONG time. Even the news station had to edit the video because of language and could not show all the pictures either, much less read anything of what he wrote. One newscaster did say, however, after reading over some of what this guy was spouting off in his video, was that the whole motive behind any of this was envy. Envy of what other people had, as far as possessions. He even idealized himself as a martyr, comparing himself to Jesus Christ. This guy had been stated as being an imminent danger to himself and others two years ago by a clinical psychologist! Now really, I seriously do not think any of his sick psychosocial mental fixations had anything to do with him being from korea! He was just a walking time bomb that exploded. JMO
I love that stuff too
It usually takes everything right off my stove in just a few minute. I also sometimes use that old fashioned stuff that now comes in a creamy liquid formula now called Barkeepers Friend. It even takes pot marks off my sink. I also recently discovered those cool white Magic Erasers Plus and now those three products are all I need except dish soap and window cleaner! Why did they wait so long to invent those Magic Erasers anyway?
They have jobs & pay for all their own stuff. Just have to do away
s
strong stuff
I use to sell the stuff and let me tell you the backing should not hurt the flooring.  Actually, I took a screwdriver and tried to scrap, chip or just try to mar the surface of the flooring and I could not even scratch it at all.
Follow up on this cat stuff
I just got back from the store and bought some hairball control dry cat food. The older cat I spoke about drinks water so no problem there. I got the dry as well as several cans of wet hairball control so probably will mix a little of the wet with dry to start out with. I also bought glove to run over the cat and get rid of some of the excessive fur. This is not a common shedding as she has had for sometime, surprised she has any left. I have hairball gel that I could give them in addition to this. Thanks for the insight!
you can now get the freeze stuff OTC
