My mom had those symptoms yesterday, turned out to be (sm)

Posted By: AgingMT on 2008-02-11
In Reply to: Pre-diabetes/diabetes/hypoglycemic/hypochondriac - Blood sugar woes...

Her blood pressure, it was 147/100 when we checked it about 20 minutes after her sx started. She is on meds but is still having a hard time keeping it controlled.

Another thought, again, based on my mom's issues: She very similar symptoms that kept getting worse and ended up needing a pacemaker.

So, anyway, your original thought about BP might be the angle to check on next.

When I turned 30, that was my roughest, until I turned 40, which was my roughest until I turned 50 .

The symptoms you have go along with
hypothyroidism. Hyperthyroidism is usually loss of weight (don’t we wish) and if you have seen the "bug-eyed" look of some people, this can go along with the hyperthyroidism. In hypothyroidism metabolism runs slow- hyperthyroidism it speeds up. I have had exhausation. I told my physician I wanted to be checked for thyroid, knowing I had the classic symptoms years ago- that being extremely dry skin, so cold could not get warm- in my house sitting under blankets to work, terrible itching (I guess from the extreme dry skin)and the loss of hair and that weight issue again. I asked my endocrinologist if my thyroid was playing out and he told me already gone. I have been on synthroid but with the acute hair loss, am calling Monday for appointment to try to get on the Armour thyroid as the person above told me. I have had to resort to wigs lately because of the excessive hair loss- am just going to do a Britany and be finished with it!! Good luck with yours but thyroid disease left untreated can certainly be dangerous, in fact some can be fatal, not to fool around with it you think might be a problem with you.
Symptoms
My first symptom started last August when I began itching all over my body with no rash or hives (itched to the point of causing bruising to my upper chest area), then about a week later it began with having a sore bottom (as if I had been doing squats the day before - hurt to sit, then my legs felt like jello and then increasingly began to be painful, then aching all over as if I had fever, yet I did not, then there was the extreme exhaustion (and I knew I was not that out of shape)...even the slightest activity would cause me to be tired and I could sleep all day so it seemed, so after a battery of blood tests for MS, lupus, Lyme, West Nile, vitamin deficiencies, etc all of which were normal, my doctor had me log my symptoms for 3 months on a calendar, and I went back to see him in January by which time I was beginning to experience numbness and tingling in my legs/feet (as if they were asleep)..so my doctor then ordered MRI of the brain and spine x-rays all of which were normal so he said he was sure I had fibro, but could not diagnose it so referred me to a rheumatologist - who did more test and confirmed the diagnosis of fibromyalgia.  I am now taking 1500 mg of Relafen, 100 mg of Tramadol every 4 hours p.r.n. pain, a muscle relaxer at bedtime, 600 mg of Neurontin at bedtime and 100 mg of Zoloft - I walk 30 minutes a day and do light stretching exercises every other day....My symptoms do seem to flare up around my cycle each month - I am finally feeling better after a 2 week flare of feeling like being ran over by a big truck...Good luck to you in your search for answers and if your mother has fibro then more than likely you do too, my rheumotologist said that sometimes it can be genetic.
Please tell me what the symptoms were you had
My mother had pleurisy once, remember she had to quit a job at Dupont, good job, in the 50s. I do not know much about this, but symptoms in all ribs, all around? Thanks for the information.
I have had those symptoms...sm
I got really sick a few years back and had the same symptoms you do. Do you feel really drained like no energy? Sometimes I to would feel like I was going to pass out. I went to the doctor, ER, and I too thought is was blood sugar but when I would take it it wouldn't be low. To make a long story short months later I finally go to a doctor who tells me what is wrong: I have Epstein Barr virus or Mono. It took 1-1/2 years to get over. Did blood work and tested for it and I had it. I will always carry it even when I am not sick but if my immune system gets weakened then it flares up. Get some extensive blood work done. Good luck and hope you feel better.
Sounds like all my symptoms.
I went from doctor to doctor and had 2 years' worth of appointments and tests. Turns out I have a rare kidney disease. Normal urine tests didn't detect it, though, it finally showed up as protein loss in a 24-hour collection.

I also had just moved into a new house, and I kept thinking maybe it was mold or something in the house that was getting me.

If your ankles are swelling up to your thighs, and you can't stay awake, and everything aches...maybe look toward kidneys. If fine, at least you'll have ruled something else out!!
I know! I had horrible symptoms (sm)
And kept being told it might just be depression - I finally took the *&* antidepressants just to cope with not being diagnosed! It didn't help my illness but it helped me deal with it. Eventually they did an MRI of my brain and found pinpoint lesions all over it but never could tell me what they were from. I took antidepressants and sleep med and used lots of alternative remedies and juiced and ate as healthy and pure as possible for a year and finally got fairly well but still have a few leftover symptoms (ear fluttering, occasional muscle twitches) that will probably never go away. One doctor even suggested that I go to a massage therapist because some people would get depressed over not having enough "touch" in their lives - I had two children who hugged me all day and my husband and I were very "active."
Sounds like same symptoms

I would rub and press on it and it would let up, then move to a different place and start back up.  On the day I sought treatment it was constant and going at several places in my head at once, and it was just too distracting to work because it was scaring me and I just wanted it to stop!

Good luck to him.

thank you - do my symptoms sound like ADD to you? (sm)
I went to a teacher conference recently and noticed that my son's desk had papers hanging out all over the place - just like mine used to be! It kind of struck me at that moment that maybe I should try to do something about this. He is very intelligent, but very disorganized, forgets to turn in homework, forgets to bring books needed for his homework, etc. I lose things, forget to pay bills, etc.
Thanks - do my symptoms sound at all like yours? (sm)
I also have many unfinished projects!
Do you have any GERD symptoms during the day?...
I started having problems with disrupted sleep last year, then shortly after that started having mild dysphagia to bread-y foods.  Went to the Dr., who started me on pantoprazole, and ever since then I have not had many awakenings.  BTW, I did not have heartburn but was still diagnosed with GERD.
Weird symptoms....sm
My sister-in-law went to the ER tonight.  Her symptoms were numbness all over her body, nausea, dizziness, and shortness of breath.  She started antibiotics Friday evening.  These symptoms started tonight.  I thought it may be the anitbiotics.  Some kind of adverse reaction.  She has a pilonidal cyst so they put her on Sulfa antibiotics.  Well when she went to the ER they said they didn't believe it was antibiotics but a panic attack.  She said she has never had a panic attack in her life.  How weird.  I just wonder if it could be the anitbiotics even with no rash.  I would hate for it to be the anitbiotics and her keep taking it and get worse.
What are your symptoms with the thyroid?
I have also so wondering about you.
could be gallbladder symptoms too...nm
nm
can you give some symptoms of your fibroid? sm
i think i have some and have a horrible, horrible time but wasn't certain of symptoms and no benes yet......
if you mind me asking, what were the symptoms you started out with?
My mother has fibromyalgia also and she thinks that I have it to...I hurt/ache somewhere in my body almost every day and now I am having problems with my knees for no reason at all...just wondering what your symptoms were when you were diagnosed?
those symptoms sounds just like where i have pain...
neck, shoulders, lower back and knees...i first started having really bad pain in my ankles after i had my daughter 6 months ago...like my tendons were really stiff...the knee thing just started around December for no reason...started with one knee, then the other...some days they don't hurt at all...other days they are very painful...my hubby will try to rub my shoulders and it is so painful, and he will poke me in the ribs, which also hurts...do i say to my doctor i think i have fibromyalgia or just explain my symptoms?
Two of my friends had very similar symptoms and on
the second week they developed severe nausea. Both of them use different doctors, but both of those doctors told them to cut back the dose. I would recommend they contact their physician and see what they can do.
...bruising and definitely see someone if symptoms progress. nm

Anyone here with thyroid problems or MS symptoms?
I have been having a cluster of very odd symptoms starting a few months ago that include: Heart palpitations, internal vibration/tremor, fine tremor in hands, eye pain, blurred vision, hives, balance problems, dizziness, muscle twitching, hot flashes, and more. These symptoms come and go. One day I'm fine, the next day BAM! I have had blood tests so far...doc thinks it's anxiety. I will be seeing my doc tomorrow to "go over the tests" so he can again tell me it's anxiety. I wonder if anyone else out there has these symptoms that just come on all of a sudden.

TIA
Sounds like classic OCD symptoms....
Good luck...OCD sucks :-(
Similar symptoms in the past
I went to my primary care, and they said I had anxiety/panic issues caused mainly by stress. I got a mood stabilizer and took it for about six months with some minimal side effects, and have not had the problem since until recently, about 10 years later. I do really feel for you, as I remember at one point sitting there thinking I had completely lost my mind. Ask your PCP about depression/anxiety/stress issues, and see if that isn't something that should be considered. Good luck!
Any other symptoms? Abdominal pain?

Perhaps an imperforate hymen with hematocolpos?

can you elaborate more on symptoms other than hair loss? sm
i get confused with hypo and hyper. my last results were below normal limits, barely - not enough for doc to give Rx. i feel i have lots of symptoms though but symptoms are almost the same for both from what i find. i am always "exhausted", insomnia, extreme hair loss, can't lose weight.
Anyone ever have very frequent urination but no other symptoms. What a pain this is. nm
:
And get thee to a doctor - you have classic symptoms sm
of DEPRESSION. Feeling weighed down, exhausted, too tired, not enjoying life and activities of daily living - you may need some chemical intervention to perk up. Plus get outside 30 minutes every day for some natural sunlight. TAKE SOME "ME TIME" - You need it. Life is short and why, oh why, be miserable in the short time that you have?
A lotta hype behind it, and apparently the symptoms are
Tamiflu, etc. are apparently quite effective in fighting it. People always die during a flu outbreak, usually not of the virus itself, but of complications. High death rate in Mexico probably has a lot to do with poverty and lack of health care for so many. I think the mask-thing is a little extreme, especially outdoors, but it's always a good idea to wash your hands often and carry those alcohol-based wipes. I use those after using an ATM machine, or going to the supermarket, shaking hands with people, etc. Probably a good idea after handling money, as well.

Yesterday I got this forwarded, totally panicky email from someone I know regarding stockpiling food & supplies, etc., as if it were the end of the world.
That's pretty overboard, if you ask me. But then again, some people tend to react that way to just about anything on the news.

Have you turned it on?
Just kidding....
You all have turned me on to
the French press. Gosh, don’t get out enough and have not heard of this. I love strong coffee, want to sniff up the coffee houses whenever I stop to get some, mine sure does not smell like theirs. I hope I have the same luck as you have, can hardly wait.
Yours could have turned out that way
but I have now a 40+ and a 30+ each and both are doing extremely well, always respectful, kind, considerate. Maybe just a swat (as you call it) was just that, like a little pat so I can understand the way you are thinking.
Not everyone turned out okay
some had brain damage from lead poisoning, some died from ATV accidents, some drown in bathtubs, lakes, rivers, pools. We simply got lucky and ran our guardian angels ragged. Obviously the rules/laws were made because other children weren't so lucky... She shouldn't have asked. She simply shouldn't have even conceived of the idea. A 9-month-old does not belong on an ATV.
My MIL was the same way, until she turned 70. sm
A man, contracting work on her condo, was interested in her and would not give up until she went out with him. She spent the best 5 years of her life with this man, until he passed away.

When the right man comes along, you will know, and it could happen at any time.
Agree - Yes I had similar symptoms. Had a partially herniated disk
of course I had every test known to man run before they figured that out. You would think it would have been obvious to them but oh well.
LOL!! Yep - I've turned it on :-)

Yep, me too. Turned it on today just to see...
her "announcement" and I had to quickly change the channel again. She's the worst. I will be happy to give it a try again once she is OFF
I have turned those sheets every which way
but loose, have about 3 sets and nothing has been working. I am making notes of all these answers and check the mattress out. It is huge and thick so have to get the measuring tape out.
Turned 40 today
You wanted some positives....if you are healthy, be thankful, a lot of people are not....I will be 65 this year, people say I look 40.....I'm healthy, physically active, triathalons & all that that entails to stay fit.....very fortunate--kids grown & gone.  Worked hard raising kids & now it is paying off.....don't have to raise grandkids.  Retired from one career & started another.....Be happy!  You know more now at 40 than you did at 20.  Work smarter, not harder!
I've had several already and I just turned 40

I had a few problems going on, hence the need for so many at my age, but it all turned out okay.

Anyway,  I have small boobage, so there was quite a bit of adjusting involved with trying to get my under-endowed self on the plates.  Not the most comfortable thing to do, but as it is over so fast and could possible save my life, it's 100% worth it.

What we women go through.  When my husband had his first prostate exam, he came home whining about how embarrassing it was.  I then gave him a whole litany of what embarrassing really was as far as PAPs etc.  What a baby.

Now, go get those mammies grammed!

I turned 47 in November.... thanks!
xx
My DH just turned 70 - Thinks he is 40 ##
I am 69
Hush don't go imagining something!!
Yes! I turned the volume way down . .
maybe because it's a singing contest and I feel like a judge. If she was a contestant, she'd get the boot.
Glad your day turned out well...and that was
great you huddled. After dad talked to them on the phone, and they came back inside they did their chores, made their own lunches, while I tried to get that headache to go away. DH just took them with their allowances from last week to Walmart probably to remind them the positive points of being cooperative. Yep, I love them too and don't want to think about the next 15 years when they leave. I just think for me and maybe some of us it is difficult working at home all day and doing double, triple duty. I have been worried about my MT pay and wrote my DH a note today I am indeed going to take some time off from MTing because I feel burnt to a crisp. He said something about a month in a house at the beach (with kids, and with him just popping in), but I know I won't be able to take much time at all off from work. Our production job is so tough, man, some days are difficult for mom, dad and kids. But it cheers me to hear your day got better. Mine is too because I rested and the kids are out at Walmart which they love. About my taking time off from MTing, we'll see how long that lasts LOL. Dream, dream, dream.
Googling turned up:
Small amounts of ammonia are normally in the bloodstream. Many serious illnesses, including liver damage, can cause blood ammonia levels to rise. High levels of ammonia can cause patients to become confused and die, if left untreated.
I have been called only once since I turned 18....
and I am 55 now. I was actually looking forward to it too. I made it as far as jury selection. They needed 13, and I was #14. Oh well..at least I got to see how the system worked. And even if I had been seated, there was no guarantee that the case would have gone to trial anyway.
Its a no..turned down...not a chance

I had my meeting yesterday afternoon with my lawyer. Although I am clearly disabled I fall threw the disability loop holes. There are 2 types you can sign up for. The first you must have worked 10 years consecutively. I worked when I was first married and then when we had kids I stayed home with them until they started school and then went back to work as a substitute teacher. I had worked 9 years consecutively and had a stroke so I am disqualified there.

The 2nd one you have to have not worked or be low income. Low income meaning a little over $900.00 a month for dh and I. Kiddos don't qualify as dependants since they are over 18 or the income level would be higher. We are low income but not that low for the 2 of us. The only thing you can own is your home and one vehicle. We own our home and 3...the old truck we are trying to sale that might bring $500.00., the truck dh bought for $1000.00 and the car he inherited from his sis. Dh also inherited some land and some money from his sis. AND THEN there is the fact that dh and his sis had to put their dad's money in their names so they can pay for his care, power of attorney and all that, and although the money goes for ONLY his care and we use none of it it goes against my case.

So although I am disabled, in pain every single day of my life, I don't qualify for disability. Our income doesn't qualify us for Medicaid. Our income doesn't afford us insurance IF we could find someone that would cover me with all my health issues. I'm tired, defeated, exhausted, cried until I can't cry. I don't know how many knocks I can take.

I don't begrudge anyone health care...but how is it fair that I can't get it and its handed over to those that have never paid a dime in taxes? How is it fair that a convicted child molester will get his disability? (yes I know someone that is and will get his). I just don't get it. There needs to be decent affordable healthcare in this country for EVERY citizen. I'm not talking Socialized medicine. I'm talking decent affordable healthcare.

It should not cost $4000.00 for an ER visit and $500.00 for the doctor. Yes again that happened to me last summer. I would never have gone if I had not been doubled over in severe pain and my regular doctor sent me there. I left the ER with a huge bill, a prescription I could not afford to fill, and a huge bill I had to finish paying and I'm still paying. They made me pay $250.00 before I left the hospital. Another time when I fell and messed up my ankle my doctor sent me over there for an xray. My ankle was 3 or 4 times its size and they still made me pay for the xray before they would even do it. Something needs to be done with this crazy ridiculous business

My gas was turned off last week.
I hear your pain though not quite as bad as I used my money for bills to pay my mtg and the recent ruling by FEMA that I now live in a flood zone (100 year flood) and by 6/15, I had to fork over 300.00 or they'd apply their own at the tune of 2 grand.

I made 60 grand for 3 years in a row. During my last 2 months at my beloved job, I made 1 grand a month. Without notice, my account left and I was basically kicked to the curb.

Savings account is what would have saved me. After all these years doing this, I am back at ground zero. It is very stressful in this economy where compassion fatigue is quite apparent from the posts below.

United we stand, divided we fall, I suppose.

I turned the show on just because of the posts
and disappointed as I could be, did not watch that much, thought the guy a creep and his wife shoulda left years ago. I turned the channel.
