Not sure if that was for me, but...

I do want to make it clear that the first thing I am going to do is call the vet and make sure that my cat does not have a medical problem that is causing him to want to eat all the time. I know he does not have parasites, but maybe, like the other poster mentioned, he has acid reflux or something. Then, I am going to try some of the other advice - smaller bowl, multiple feeding times. I have already bought him some lower fat food, meanwhile hoping that is hairball problem does not return (any info on that would be appreciated, too! I do brush him every day and he likes baths every now and then). I would never leave the cat even in the bathroom over night because I would feel terrible and certainly could not do a cage. I love my cat dearly. I do not want him to suffer if indeed he is really hungry, but I also do not want him to suffer because he is overweight. Even now I cringe when he jumps onto something high, although I think it hurts me more than it does him!

Anyway, I just wanted to clarify that because I know I was frustrated when I posted and may not have sounded sympathetic to my poor kitty cat.
