Oh is she on house arrest?

Posted By: Margaret on 2007-06-08
In Reply to: Well, that'll really teach her... - sm

Interesting- a stay at her mansion would be like a dream spa vacation to any of us. She is probably laughing her butt off that she got out of this.

It's like kids today being 'grounded' for doing something wrong and they are up there in their bedrooms with big screen TVs, Ipods, computers w/webcams, cellphones, blackberrys, you name it. Gee if I had had a room like that growing up I would have never left it- I would have had to be banned from my room for punishment instead, lol.

Not me - I think she will get to stay under house arrest - what a joke

I don't mean to arrest anyone or anything : ()
I mean just to report that she hit the dog and so if it needed treatment they could take care of it. But I just read the other post about the owners being not so nice people so now I'm not so sure. I just feel bad for the dog!
MJ + Cardiac arrest
Well, I suppose they could say that about why everyone dies - your heart does stop -so they arent lying, but they did bring up a good point that he has had problems with narcotics and that could weaken your heart. So sad. I just cannot believe he was mentally fulfilled, always changing his physical appearance. He was so talented, and handsome to boot, until he overdid the plastic surgery. Then, he looked like a creature from a movie. Honestly, I'm surpised more kids didn't run away from him screaming.

I never did have Farrah hair. It's long now but still baby fine. Eh, what are you going to do? I'm 42 years old and no longer worried about keeping up with the latest fashions, as long as I look nice.
In Michigan they will issue an arrest warrant
If you don't show up for jury duty, they will issue a warrant.  Wondering where the case was that a rapist was released due to juror not showing up?  Something doesn't sound quite right there.
A heart attack and cardiac arrest are 2 ....sm
different things. Cardiac arrest simply means the heart stops. It can be caused by many things. Overdosing, mixing drugs, hearrt attack, etc. I have read a lot about Elvis' death. He had cardiac arrest BUT it was because of an overdose. The autopsy results today on MJ said his heart was okay as far as a heart condition or clogged arteries, etc. Something made his heart stop beating and sent him into cardiac arrest. I used to think cardiac arrest was the same thing as a heart attack. Upon reading into it further it is not. A heart attack could cause cardiac arrest I guess. In MJ's case, according to the medical examiner, he did not have a heart attack, per se. So now they will look into toxicology to look for drugs, etc. in his system that could have caused the cardiac arrest. You know, I read just today, Demerol when mixed with other drugs it shouldn't be mixed with can cause cardiac arrest. When they obtained a search warrant a few years back for Neverland Ranch looking for evidence for the molestation charges, they found syringes and Demerol then. I am willing to bet too many drugs sent him into cardiac arrest. :)
Worse, cardiac arrest at his home today.

Need help with ideas for remodeling house and decorating. We bought a house

in fair condition about 10 years ago, got into some medical problems, and have just now paid off the mortgage.  Hubby and I agreed we would do nothing to the house for remodeling because we wanted to pay it off first, then the medical bills.  I need to know of some websites/magazines/books to start researching for how to go about this.  These will be major repairs - roof, septic, basement, windows, pretty much everything except wiring.  Where do we start?  Maybe hire a general contractor just to do an evaluation and give us recommendations?  Hubby is a handyman but cant seem to get a handle on where to begin.  We would like to do as much of the work ourselves as possible - labor of love and all that...

Thanks for any and all kind suggestions!

We have a house and
who want a dog.  I'm not a cat fan and we can't have an outside dog b/c we live in a development (and I don't want a dog inside).  Rabbits are quiet and cute.  Thanks for the insight!!!
Get a job in house
Again you knew what you were getting into when you signed on.  Also some MT's in our hospitals do have to work holidays.  Some of it is covered by those that chose to "work at home" but again they knew this when they took the job with being able to "work at home."
Well, not in my house!
lol

Do they have a dog house?

I definitely agree that she should take the dog inside, but if she absolutely refuses maybe you could buy her a well-insulated doghouse so at least the animal will have some protection from the cold.  Animals have survived cold temperatures for years, but they need a place that shelters them from the cold, and she needs to provide that for them!!

I feel for you - vegetarian here :)  One of the big reasons I lost respect for my ex-best friend was the way she treated her animals.  She was always buying dogs and cats and then leaving them at the pound or pawning them off on people.  It really made me think less of her, because what kind of person does that! She also won't admit she did anything wrong!  arrrrgh! It drives me crazy when people don't take proper care of their animals.  They are a big responsibility - not just a cute puppy to show off when it's convenient.  I hope your daughter straightens up, but again, if she doesn't I highly recommend purchasing a good doghouse for the poor dog!

i want to eat at your house
I have a cookbook from LA Leche League - Whole Foods for the Whole Family.  many good recipes.  don't know if still available, bought 12 years ago.   Many ethnic recipes on-line to try.
Get him out of the house
This kid is angry at you. He is going behind you undoing everything you do. He wants your attention, even if it is negative.

He needs kids his own age - he may be a number to the day care people, but he'll be a real kid to the other kids and will make friends.

Get him into something you can afford, even if it is just the 2-hr a day program. It will work wonders for him and for you.

Good luck - let us know how it goes for you.

S/L you are carrying a huge load. Home schooling sounds great, but when you're working another job as well, it can break your back. Maybe you and the husband need to reassess how you are doing things. Do the home school classes when the DH is there to help out, or whatever takes the stress out of it for you.
Your cat looks like it ate the house!
Beautiful!
have them to your house? or -
talk to all about it, best policy. bet they understand - haven't they been there? they all might settle for a drive by later for coffee and desert for t-giving...or some other type of compromise.

That's every day at my house :)

the dog house - sm

Girls, has your hubby ever gotten you a "practical" gift that you did not appreciate?  This video will put a smile on your face!  Enjoy the lighthearted fun.

You just described my house

I chuckled reading your post. I have 9 - yes 9 - cats, three of whom are kittens in the range of 7 months old.  I got them all about a week apart and they're each about a month apart in age.  They are refugees from the neighbors really bad decisions.

Nothing in the house is safe any more.  All of my bigger plants are now in hooks on the ceiling - the smaller plants were already there.  It looks silly, but it works.  There is nothing left on any flat surface.  It cracks me up when they get going and chasing each other.   My house is very cat friendly at this point.  I made the choice to put the good furniture in storage for now and I have washable furniture.   There are cat beds everywhere.  My office shelving unit is more cat bed than it is storage and I have 2 beds on the desk beside my computer.

Yes, I am the crazy cat lady.

This is always a hit at my house

Rotel tomatos

Velveeta cheese

taco-seasoned ground beef

Brown ground beef and add taco seasoning (as in making tacos). Melt Velveeta and Rotel in microwave; add meat mixture. I transfer to a crockpot to keep it hot.  Serve with corn chips. This recipe is made with 1 lb ground beef, 1 packet taco seasoning, 1 small can Rotel, and half of a big block of Velveeta. Of course, you can vary it to the amount you need to serve.

Love the show, but I missed it...what happened?????
Dr. House would say to see a
However, the suggestion to check out the truck/car for carbon monoxide exhaust is really intriguing. Does he get a headache while the wavy-thing is happening? CO poisoning also causes a killer-headache, I've heard.

I'd also look at what he's having for breakfast and what time he's eating it, in case there's possibly a blood sugar connection. When my blood sugar drops, all sorts of crazy symptoms start happening. Doing a glucometer, I'm always below 80 when that happens.

I really think the beer intake the night before is not relevant at all. Amusing though!

Ya gotta love him though!
I have Karndean throughout my house. It looks just
like wood, I mean REALLY looks like wood, but it's not.  It's not a vinyl either.  You just have to see it.  See the website below.
When we moved into our house..sm

the people who lived here before us had a rabbit that got out of the hutch and they couldn't get it back in, so it lived in our yard.  One nice warm evening I took our house cat out with me while I was outside.  I looked away for a minute and in the blink of an eye, the male rabbit was...um...having nonconsensual relations with my poor, terrified female cat.  I could not believe my eyes. Needless to say, my cat stayed in the house after that.

We just moved into a new house
and the last owners left some of the nails in the wall where they had things hanging and I guess thinking we might want to hang something there as well.

Well, we had this little sign my mom had give me with 2 turtles on it with some saying on it, about family or something. Every time I turned around, my hubby had that thing hanging somewhere. I would take it down and put it away and the next day it would be hanging somewhere else.

I told him to leave the decorating to me, haha! ;)

We just reached our 7th year being married. I hope that in 21 years we have that same relationship. So far, so good.

Cute story, thanks for sharing. :)
Sounds like what we just went through at my house

My 16-year-old daughter was also smoking on and off since last summer.  When her dad actually caught her red-handed, she was grounded indefinitely - no phone or computer and no friends.  She had exercise-induced asthma as a child and I thought I had drilled it into her from little on up how stoopid (censor wouldn't let me spell it right)   smoking would be.  Not to mention that my parents both smoked and mom has severe asthma and dad has the start of emphysema as well as many other health problems.

Anyway, she started again and finally, I went through her purse and found 2 packs of cigarettes, which I took and she was grounded from seeing the boyfriend, which was far worse than the phone, I think.  She threw a fit because her older brother also smoked in high school, but he was already 18, so not much we could really do about it.  She's only 17.  Plus the fact that she just started oral contraceptives and her doctor told her right to her face no smoking.

But, I think we are on the right track at the moment.  Good luck to you because this sure isn't fun.

House Warming
My husband and I are going to be throwing a housewarming party once we get situated and moved in to our condo in a few weeks.

Is it appropriate to register for gifts and pass out the registry cards to those that ask for them, or should we just not register at all?

I'm not gift grubbing, but a lot of people have asked if we're registering, and what they should get us. I don't want to be rude and put the registry card in the invites, but I don't want to not hand them out and no one knows what to get us, if they do decide to bring a gift.
Your house your rules. I would not even
open that door to letting them sleep together at your place because then it will only get worse - trust me - with kids 30, 28, 24 and 17 - I've seen and heard a lot.  Stick by your guns - you will be happier and the kids know where you stand.... you are not a prude and don't think for a second you are!!   Best of luck!!
buying house with BF
Bear with me. I am not judging here as I do not know the circumstances other than you stated you and BF want to buy a house. I am assuming you are young, which to me, anyone under the age of 40 falls into that category! If and when buying a house comes to be, consider hiring an attorney to protect your interest, and your BF should do the same. Buying a home with a BF/GF is VERY scary. Will both names be on the mortgage? If so, what if one dies, becomes disabled, flees to Tibet to do lunch with the Dali Lama? The other is left holding the bag with all the financial responsibilities. The same things can happen if you're married too, but it's harder to legally resolve such issues if you are not married.

I don't mean to rain on your parade here! Just want you to think. Buying a house is so exciting but it's the biggest financial commitment you will ever make. You don't want it to come back and bite you in the butt years down the road.

To save, keep only one credit card and pay it off each month. That saying 'pay yourself first' is tried and true. Open an account and have 5-10% of every paycheck auto-deposited in it. If you don't have it, you won't miss it. Open short-term CDs with your savings. They are risk-free, you can access your money if you truly need it, and you'll get more interest than a savings acct. Do your research, stay away from adjustable rate mortgages, and buy beneath your means. Think of every worst case scenario you can and talk them over with your BF BEFORE you buy. This is your financial future you are about to change. You will be committed to a house/mortgage, but not to each other - legally.

OK - my doom and gloom post is done! Regardless, all the best to you!

buying a house
Wow, this is great info as I am buying a house too.  I am wondering about one point though - my realtor did recommend an inspector that I set up an appointment with - is it  absolutely necessary to find my own inspector?
Has anybody painted their house with
vinyl paint? Did you do it yourself? Is Evercote the brand you used? How is it holding up, and how did cost compare to regular paint?

https://www.evercote.com/evc/faq.php#item4
You would be foolish not the have the house - sm
inspected. A competent inspector looks for potential problems and for current problems. When we sold our house the buyers inspector found mold under our house, which we did not know about, we had no railing on our steps into the garage either. There were various other little things too, which in their hands (or yours) becomes a bargining chip to squeeze a little more out of the seller. We had the mold sprayed and installed a railing, fixed the back plate of the fireplace which had a crack in it (potential carbon monoxide problem), and gave them a window allowance for a couple of windows with broken seals. So we had 3 serious issues, the railing, the mold and the fireplace; which if they had not had an inspector they would have never found out. We were able to compromise on what to take care of on their list of "problems", about 13 things, most of which were insignificant and not an issue. But if the buyer uncovers a big problem, like a cracked foundation, or rusting plumbing or leaks, etc. It gives them bargining power, or at good legitimate reason to pull out of the deal w/o losing their deposit. It is not a lot of money to spend, ours was $300, and it is worth it if you have a good inspector. They look at things you would generally not think twice about but could in the long run cause costly repairs and problems.
Bring the dog to my house
I would go get the dog and bring the dog to my house and take care of it.
When's the best time to buy a house?
I'm new in CA and we're just renting a room for a year now.  We found a house that's brand new, price range is $400-500k with all the upgrades in there.  Furniture, appliances are inclusive.  My wife's earning around 4k monthly and I'm earning around 2k monthly.  I'm working in a hospital as a Transcriptionist and I'm not yet regular there.  We really love the house and it's perfect for us since my wife and I are having a baby soon.  My question is, is it time to buy the house?  Need advice on this.  Thanks in advance!
Too much house for you on your income...
especially with a new baby and all that requires...take into consideration if you have car payments, credit card payments, student loans, plus utilities, etc. Talk to a mortgage lender, what is your mortgage rate going to be, how much can you put down on the house, see what the lender says. Don't get in over your head...some people want it all right away, instant gratification. Take your time. Good luck
House poor
I would not buy this home, and I'm not sure the bank would allow you to buy it anyway at your current incomes. Banks used to use the 28/36 formula (no more than 28% of income for house payment and 36% total for car loans, credit cards, etc.). Nowadays, they've relaxed those guidelines which could explain the skyrocketing foreclosure rate right now. As someone else posted below, babies and children in general cost lots of money, even for their most basic needs. I would try to find a smaller, older home instead.
best time to buy a house
Or, if you could, move to South Texas.  $200K will purchase a lot of house.....RNs & physical therapists can work anywhere........unless you need to be near family.  Cost of living in Texas is much less than East/West Coasts or Pacific NW......Course, you would need flood insurance but that is no big deal & its cheap at only $240.00 to 260.00 per year.  Lots of the southern states have cheaper cost of living & you would be amazed at the housing market here......Just for comparison go to big builder websites (Perry Homes, Trendmaker, others) & check out the square footage & costs.  Outlying Houston has lots of land, good schools, good work opportunities........Would need a vehicle though.  Good luck with the new baby.
I need to get my house organized
before I can worry about that.

I have a lot of trouble planning ahead for things like that.
The Closer, House

My mother in law had a bat in her house sm
flying around on her porch last year. Had no idea how it got in. My 21 year old went over there and caught it in a fishing net. She was scared out of her wits. We had to scour the house from top to bottom to see if there were any more. So she says "I guess I really do have bats in my belfry"...... I guess I had to agree......
omg do u live in my house?
I am having that same problem. My kids because they are with me more, he worked evening shift from 4-12 or so, ask me questions every 2 seconds, and he is sitting right here. I get criticized because the house is semi-messy after i have done several things after i get off work. he is tired when he gets off, and so am i. but i do think that they think because we are at home that i should find a way to get the house spotless, take care of the kids and dogs, cook supper, and keep up with who used what towel, and then be ready to "play" when he gets home at 2, what the heck? im tired of writing this, its depressing. hope yall have a great day.
My dream house ....
would have more than 1 bathroom and more than 2 closets.  We live in the old farmhouse my DH grew up in.  It has 4 bedrooms, which is great, but only 2 closets and 1 bathroom for 5 people.  So my dream house would have at least 2 bathrooms and I would love a huge walk-in closet like I had when I was a kid.  It would also have a library with lots of shelves for my books and a big stone fireplace with great furniture to curl up in and read.  And if this wonderful house could be situated by the beach, I would be in heaven.
house too quiet for me
usually have internet radio on.
Also, because he is married to me, not the house (nm)

There is no place in my house
where these would fit in. I am no where into the shabby chic thing, have had these in a cabinet and going thru all my stuff for the last day before the sale next weekend found these and hey, since I am not using, am gonna try to sell selling. I have some things of my hubby (who is a pack rat) and just hope he does not find what I have gotten of his. Ekk...I have everything but the kitchen sink, carpets, vintage jewelry, floor lamps, table and chairs, etc. I can hardly wait.
grandma's house

No, I would not make them go - Not all people are meant to be the Norman Rockwell grandma.  Why should you subject your children to that?  Let her take them for an afternoon or even a whole day if she has something fun planned, then get them before bedtime.  I have two grown sons, 31 and 33 years.  My older son used to love to go to grandma's house.  My younger son hated it.  All kids are different.  Let them choose.  JMHO.

For those of you who have paid help with the house ..

What I am wanting from someone is an hour each morning (M-F) to do:
1) Make 2 beds (changing sheets 2 times a week)
2) Vacuum 1000 sqft (with about 300 of it not carpet - sweep)
3) Unload dishes from dishwasher/load any dirty ones
4) Swish the toilet down and wipe down the bathroom sink/mirror
5) Drop any trash at the trash bin as they leave

My questions:
1) Do you think this is reasonable to be done in an hour?

2) I am thinking of offering $15 an hour...Too much? Too little?

Thanks

I had a house cleaner...
That charged 15 bucks an hour and she did everything I mean everything from dishes, to toilets, showers, tubs, garbage, no laundry though, windows, vacuum, sweep and more that I can't remember for only 15 bucks

So yes I think you can find someone that will take $15 for that!!
