Morning Sickness
With my first daughter I didn't have any at all. I guess I was lucky. With my second daughter I had evening sickness. LOL. The only thing that would help with a cup of decaffeinated tea. It lasted I believe just a few weeks. Good luck with your pregnancy.
Anyone know how long mono lasts ...sm
in small children?  I had it a few years back and it lasted 1-1/2 years.  Yes, I am serious.  I really don't think it will last that long though in small kids.  She asked me how long mine lasted and I told her but I was wondering if anyone else had any experience with children having it and how long it lasted?  I think sometimes it is a couple months or something like that.  When I had it they told me I had chronic epstein barr virus which causes mono, which was why it lasted so long.  I thought I was gonna die and never recover.  lol
HOORAY! What a wonderful outcome!
Thanks so much for letting us know. I've been thinking about your son all day.

Tell him Happy Birthday from the MT board. LOL!!
I am glad yours had a positive outcome..sm
my father died of cancer, liver, lung, brain cancer. An alternative treatment put him into remission for a year. He then took the *traditional* medical route and died within three months. I guess I have no faith in doctors any longer and certainly not in traditional medicine, as I view 99% of it as $$ driven and not true patient care or concern, dictated to us, the patients, the human beings,by the pharmaceuticals, insurance companies, and traditional physicians who have been cubicaled into *standard operating procedures* which are shoved down our throats, and now court ordered, as the only means of survival, all the while depleting our bank accounts and sentencing some to an untimely death, wherein they throw up their hands in disgust, saying *well, that one didn't make it, guess we'll try it on the next one and hope for a better result.* We are only guinea pigs to them any more, vessels to be tested on, and pushed aside when their precious *treatments* do not work. There is no compassion any more, for the human body. Doctors see themselves as gods, thinking they, and only they, hold a persons life or death in their hands. Their egos have gotten in the way and $$ and greed have taken over proper patient care. Personally, I have no faith whatsoever in traditional medicine any more. The *miracle* happens when one's own mind decides that it does not want to be ill any longer. We heal ourselves, if we allow ourselves to. I have seen it work miracles where miracles should not be expected. I have also seen it take a life when a life does not want to go on any longer. State of mind is everything. Doctors and pills, and vicious chemicals that ravage a body and destroy the soul, are not. But that is just how I have come to feel from the experience of *modern medicine*. No bashing intended towards you or anyone else. Just offering another perspective on things. Like you said earlier, agree to disagree, and on this subject, we totally disagree. That does not mean that either or us is right or wrong. We just had different life experiences. I am glad yours was a positive experience...mine and *Joel's mom*, not so much. So, I will stick that fork in myself now, as well, as I am just as done.
From what the police have uncovered so far, it doesn't seem to be heading to a good outcome
I agree it's very fishy that the grandmother didn't ever have the opportunity to drop off or pick up the little girl from the babysitter. Considering she and the mom lived with the grandparents, you'd think she'd have had one opportunity in these years to have met the babysitter. Well, it's all fishy. Seems to not be heading to a good outcome. Don't know what the mom is trying to prove by not saying anything and the grandma... she's a real piece of work.
How long have you noticed your hard drives lasts when you are on the computer 24/7. My computer is
doing odd things and it looked like the hard drive is getting bad.  It is about 2-1/2 years old.  Actually the whole computer is about 2-1/2 years old.
pregnancy
I tend to agree with NM poster below because the very first time I got pregnant I told everyone right away and everyone went nuts with excitement, especially the grandmothers to be.  Then about 2 1/2 months into my pregnancy I miscarried and had to explain to everyone, and they had to explain to everyone.  It was really depressing.  I had what they called a "blighted ovum" which means the division of cells never really went very far.  So the next time I got pregnant, I waited until after the three month mark.  I later found out most miscarriages occur within the first three months.  Good question, by the way.  Are you pregnant for the first time?
My MIL did- every other pregnancy - has 2 kids - sm
Had a son, miscarried on preg#2, had another son, miscarried on preg#4 - no clue if there was a specific reason. I also know someone who miscarried 5 x and the 6th time she was able to carry the baby to full-term. In her case it was her pelvic bones, they just were not strong enough to carry a baby and she would not stay in bed (had to have bed rest the whole time in order to carry the baby), either she finally listened to her Dr. after 5 miscarriages or her bones got stronger (she was rather young 18-22 during all this). I have no idea if she has had more kids as we lost touch.
I also had googled a TL with my last pregnancy...
5 years ago to research it and had found that informative site. It scared me into not doing it and glad I didn't. I'm on the Pill and hardly get a period, plus it lowers your chances of getting cervical cancer due to not ovulating. I would say no to doing it. I feel bad for the women who have.
intrauterine pregnancy
isn't this such a silly phrase? it hit me tonight...where else would your pregnancy be? LOL
Pregnancy question.

Hello everyone.

I had a question for all you mothers out there. I'm just around the 8 month mark and i was just wondering if anybody had any good tips about sleeping!  I don't want to spend the $50 or whatever it is for one of those body pillows so i thought i'd see how everyone else who didn't want to spend the money was creative enough to get through the night.

Thanks!

Another pregnancy question.

I'm 32 weeks and sometimes when i'm sitting perfectly still on the couch or something the baby moves and i can hear a snapping sound, like when you bend down and your knee snaps. It's not quite as loud but it's still there. I was wondering if anyone else heard this?! I'm assuming it's my skin stretching or something because i can't imagine the baby has joints popping! lol it just seemed a little weird and just wondering if anyone else has heard of this.

- Thanks!

No uterus , no pregnancy I would think???- sm
sounds kind of weird. She sounds like a flake. I'd offer to go with her to her OB and try and get the skinny on that one!
Concerning post below about possible pregnancy...
Guess what!  I am pregnant.  I took 2 tests today and both turned out positive.  I am so happy but I am now worrying about health coverage.  I do not have any medical insurance.  What kind of coverage can I get when I am already pregnant?  Please please any advice is much appreciated.  Thanks!!!
Bloating during pregnancy!
I truly hope that one of you have some words of wisdom for me.  I'm 7 wks pregnant and my biggest problem is bloating.  If I don't eat, I literally get nauseated and want to throw up.  When I eat, I feel okay until a few minutes after I eat and then I feel bloated like crazy.  I can't hardly wear my jeans for the bloating because it makes me feel miserable.  I never had this problem with my first pregnancy. I haven't even gained any weight and so I know I'm not just porking out and getting fat.  This is all bloat.  ARGH!  Please help!!!  Any helpful suggestion?
I'm pregnant - 5 weeks along, 1st pregnancy....sm
My husband & I are thrilled that we conceived so quickly, especially with my being 43 and him being 50.  We got married in June and started trying then.  His 15-year-old daughter and our 6-year-old foster daughter are excited.  Next year will be fabulous as we'll be finalizing the adoption of our foster daughter in January and having a baby in June!
Boy - this is so variable. With my first pregnancy, hate to
tell you, I was sick the "whole 9 months", even the day he was born. Every morning at work I had saltine crackers and coke for breakfast(Ugh)as that was the only thing that calmed my stomach down. My two previous pregnancies, I had no morning sickness !
changing your OB in the last month of pregnancy?

I was just wondering if anyone here had any experience with changing your OB in the last month of pregnancy? Or if anyone knows anyone who changed their OB late in pregnancy?

Without going into too many details, my OB was away on a personal emergency this week and her partner was not in the office due to the holiday. I was having some problems this week and I needed an OB on Friday. I called but my OB's office only had a recorded message. There was no answering service. So I stuck it out until Satruday and went to the emergency room at the hospital where I was supposed to be delivering this baby. The Triage Nurse at the hospital was so awful and mean to me that I burst into tears and stormed out of there. She didn't flat out refuse me medical attention, but she gave me such a hard time about being there that she made me feel very uncomfortable, and in so many words she forced me out. She was the nastiest most unprofessional person I have ever dealt with in the healthcare industry. DH agrees.

So now DH and I are totally turned off to that hospital and I don't feel comfortable at all delivering there. Fortunately for us, we have 2 other excellent hopsitals close to our house. The problem is, my OB only delivers out of the hospital where I had this incident. So I was thinking of changing back to my old OB for the end of the pregnancy. He delivered my nephew and my sister said she liked him and had no problems with him. But he has not dealt with me pregnant. I just went to him for 2 annual checkups several years ago, then decided to change over to my current OB because my sisters and friends raved about her.

And it's really been a textbook pregnancy -- no problems with me or the baby. He would just need my records sent to him, and he'd need to know that I will be a scheduled c-section. Really at this point all I need is for someone to go in there and get the baby out for me.

Any advice? Do you think he would refuse my case since I'm 35 weeks already? The whole incident is unfortunate, and I love my OB, but I am so turned off to the hospital that I'd be willing to go with another OB just to be able to deliver out of another hospital where we'll feel comfortable and taken care of.

Very few rapes result in pregnancy. So now what?

.

Anyone ever been really heavy and have a healthy pregnancy? sm
Well I am at 325 and pregnant.  Yes, I am tall but still that weight is very, very disgusting.  I wonder how I got to this place.  But I am so worried about my weight affecting the baby. The baby was nto planned - was a complete surprise.  A welcome surprise though. But I never thought I would be able to get pregnant while being this heavy.  I don't why I thought that but I truly did.  I am just wondering if anyone has been really overweight and how it affected your pregnancy. The doctors don't really see any harm in it, or so they say, but I am still a bit worried.  Thanks for all input.  I am getting the Lap band after I have the baby. I want to be healthy for my family after this and it seems like a reasonable option.  Thanks everyone.  Have a great Thanksgiving!
I was "only" 65 lbs overweight with 2nd pregnancy...
but I was so horribly ill with 24-hour morning sickness that I walked out of the hospital 12 pounds lighter than I was at the beginning of my pregnancy. I certainly wouldn't recommend that method of weight loss! I was in and out of the hospital the entire time of my pregnancy for dehydration and IVs. Every moment of that pregnancy was a struggle with food; thinking about it, trying to keep it down, worrying about the baby.

In the end, it worked out. He was born 2 weeks early and was 8 lbs, 2 ozs. Within 24 hours I was eating like a horse again, and I was great while nursing for 6 months. But eventually, the glory days of eating and not gaining weight were gone. Now, 17 years after that pregnancy, I'm 80 pounds overweight. Sigh.

I had bleeding for the first four months of my first pregnancy...
and I had a test that said I was not pregnant, so I thought something was seriously wrong with me. My symptoms with the first and the second were nausea and exhaustion, but the exhaustion came well before the nausea. I knew I was pregnant with my second son when I couldn't make it through the day without a nap! Good luck to you and I hope you are!
how much did u gain from swelling in pregnancy?

I am almost 37 weeks along with my first child (girl!). I have gained a third of my pregnancy weight in the last month due to giant man feet and ankles. Yuck! I haven't worn my wedding ring for months-the hands were swollen first, but then came the feet. I had to wear my new found velcro strap sandles to my anniversary dinner this week. I had on a lovely skyblue knit dress with a beautiful blue topaz necklace my husband bought as an anniversary gift, and it was all topped off with my velcro summer sandles.  I just had to giggle at myself, but really when no other shoe fits what are you supposed to do?

Does anyone else have some good stories so I know I'm not alone? Thanks.

Does it matter what time of day you take a pregnancy test??/

i've read that morning time is the best, but does it really matter?  i'm 37, had a tubal after my second pregnancy six years ago.  i'm a week and a half late.  i've never been this late before.  i figured i'd start with taking a home pregnancy test first.  i'm anxious to take it and don't want to wait until tomorrow, but heard morning time was the best time.

thanks

12-year old girl forced to take pregnancy test due to school rumor

NEVADA CITY, Calif. -- A 12-year-old girl was forced to take a pregnancy test at school in Nevada City, a lawsuit filed in Nevada County Superior Court alleges.

The Pacific Justice Institute, which is representing the girl, said in a news release that Steve Davis, a counselor at Seven Hills Middle School, pulled the girl out of class.

KCRA 3 has decided not to name the girl out of protection for her privacy.

Davis heard rumors that she was pregnant and wanted to know if it was true, the release said.

Though she denied it and told Davis a classmate had spread rumors about her in the past, the counselor got a pregnancy test from the school nurse and told the 12-year-old to give a urine sample, the Pacific Justice Institute said.

The pregnancy test was negative.

According to the news release, the girl was embarrassed and humiliated, and her parents were angry when they found out.

They worked with the Pacific Justice Institute to get an apology from the Nevada City School District, but didn't receive one.

The lawsuit, filed Oct. 29, 2008, seeks damages for violation of the girl's right to privacy and emotional distress.

"There is no merit in the claim," Superintendent Roger Steel said. He directed further questions to the district's attorney.

Reached at home Monday night, Davis said he had no comment on the lawsuit.

My husband is 7.5 years younger. Been together almost 20 happy years...nm

My feelings; people shacking up together for years and years
and then all of a sudden deciding to get married don't need a thing, obviously. A shower should not even be given. I lived with my now husband a while (nowadays who doesn't!) before we married and I also had been married before years ago but he was not....so of course HIS mom wanted a shower. I told her absolutely not unless it was just the immediate family, his mom, sisters, etc, more like a celebration/get together. And so that's what we did. Showers are tacky, period. Unless it's a couple of young kids getting married straight out of the house and that doesn't happen much anymore.
I had it during my pregnancy a long, long time ago. Husband

Been with a man 13 years older, now with a man 4 years younger.
Younger is better, at least in my case ;)
Sorry, meant 75 cents. Still, that was years and years ago.

I studied to be a scopist years and years ago
Back in the early 1990s I took a course called Note reader Scopist. They read court reporter notes (those long skinny papers that looks like a cash receipt) and types them into documents. I had found the course through something called At Home Professions but just didn't finish it because it was too expensive for me. But I am familiar with them and even found my book from the first course I took. Looking back I think it would have been a blast if I had kept up with it.

It is definitely legitimate. A lot has changed since the early 90s, so I'm not too familiar with the industry now. I do remember what was really weird was it didn't take a lot for me to learn it. For instance I could look at a line of court notes and see something that looked like: NV p srn - and I seemed to know exactly what it said. Just weird. My DH used to say that I understood it because I was an alien and my ship crashed in Roswell. HA HA HA Anyway...that's what I know about it. But if you Google note reader scopist or at home professions i'm sure you could probably find a lot of info.
I have been vegetarian on/off for 35 years, was vegan for about 5 years sm
not that hard. Right now, I am having so many issues with food allergies and celiac disease, having to give up nightshade veggies...nothing left to eat. I am eating some meat now, but not when the gastroparesis sets in!

Being vegan is not hard...unless you are a celiac. This is how I figured out the celiac part because so many of the meat analogs and vegan packaged foods use gluten for the protein and I got really sick from it. I gave up all the premade things and the whole grains with gluten and I was fine.

There is vegan and then there is VE-GAN. By definition, vegans don't wear, use or consume anything that is derived of animals...no leather shoes, most shampoos and toothpastes are off the list, as are deodorants. No wool or silk. Anything with soap usually has animal byproducts. It is very involved and rather difficult to do.

Giving up meat, eggs and dairy is no big deal, except for cheese. You hear that ad about "comfort proteins" in a baby formula and there is such a thing. Mother's milk, be it human, cow, goat, whatever...contains a chemical that triggers the release of endorphins in the brain so that feeding feels good in more ways than one. The purpose of this is ensure that the nursed young want to nurse and thrive. Human milk has a lot of these, so does cow's milk and cow juice triggers the same reaction in the adult human brain. Cheese is concentrated milk and therefore these chemicals are also concentrated. As a result, cheese is an addictive substance. This is the hardest thing to give up when going vegan. Vegan cheese substitutes are nasty and they don't melt. If a dairy-free cheese melts, it contains casein, an animal protein and not vegan.
I studied this years and years and years ago
Most definitely is legitimate. In the late 1980s I studied to be a note reader scopist through a group called At Home Professions. I loved it, but unfortunately could not continue due to no funds. It was reading the court reporters notes which looked like a grocery receipt with a bunch of letters scattered on it. The weird thing was I found it extremely easy. For instance I would see a line that looked like: av e cr, and for some reason I would know what it said. My DH told me that's because I'm an alien and my ship landed in Roswell. HA HA. Well I know that a lot has changed, after all it's been over 20 years since I took the first course and know a lot of it is computerized now, but it is most definitely legitimate and I've heard people like to do it. I think I remember one of the courses was in medical terminology and another course was in legal terminology. Should be able to find a lot of it on google, or maybe go to your local college if they offer it and talk to an instructor.
This has happened for years and years, where have you been?
Frank Sinatra, Elvis, the Beatles, and on and on. This person is acting very normal like the age she is. You would have to have been under a rock to think differently, like this was an abnormal behavior....
Lost my mom 23 years ago and dad 18 years ago.
My son was not even 1 when my mom died....she was only 50.  My dad died at age 59.  So even though I feel your pain....I would have been very grateful to have them into their 80's.  I guess we take what we get and be thankful.  Sometimes it is hard though.
I was married for 13 years and 2 years
after my divorce I met the most incredible man. He was also divorced, we both have 2 kids, and though we are not married, we have been together for 9 years. They are still out there, you may have to go through a few marginal ones before you find him, but they are out there and available.
Was your kid almost THREE years old?

feel free to e-mail me any questions you may have and I'll answer the best I can.  For me, foster parenting has been a very rewarding experience.

I had it done 5 years ago.
The good: Surgery went well. Lost from 420 pounds down to 175.

The bad: Became depressed, lost my hair, damaged a kidney, and eventually gained the weight back. Weight 350 pounds now.

If you can't change your habits now, you probably won't change it then either.

Only 5% of those who lose weight (even with surgery) keep it off.

DH had one about 5 years ago....
It was a breeze for him, and only a $10 copay! He tried to be macho though and lift something pretty heavy 2 days later, ended up home for about 4 days and pretty sore! All in all everything has been A-OK, he has never had a problem. Didn't slow him down any either, he is still quite the man, if you know what I mean! LOL! Good luck, hope it works out for you.
We do...even after 21 years.

I had an ex-boyfriend that owed them money. Don't know if he was buying it or selling it, and never had heard of them before that, or since then.
WW as of 2 years
I did WW 2 years ago.  They have 2 plans, the core and flex.  I did the flex. It is a point system.  Basically you eat anything you want.   You keep a diary of what you eat and add up the points at the end of the day.   The points was based on the number of calories, amount of fat and fiber I think too. I don't know anything about the core plan.   I did loose weight the 3 weeks I was there.  I went from 196 to 189.  I quit when I got pregnant and never went back.  I would love to go back but I don't think I would get much out of a meeting anymore.  I have a 5 year old that gets bored and a 16 month-old that won't sit still.  I think the cost back then was $11 a week.
Had it when I was 11 years old. sm
I really cannot remember how long I had it before I was diagnosed, seemed to last a looong time though.  Mine started out with one lesion on my torso, which itched but would feel like someone was stabbing me if I touched it... even if my SHIRT touched it!  All of the lesions were very painful, but I remember that one most because it got infected.  Turned a grayish green and oozed.  I still have a large scar from it.  Hope you feel better soon.  It is very painful.
I took it for about 10 years.
I just changed to Effexor. Ten mg is an extremely low dose. To keep migraines and neck/shoulder tightness under control I needed 20. But 50 mg, even though that's still a pretty low dose, could cause daytime drowsiness for me. Other people might take 100 mg, I believe. And at 50 mg there was a little weight gain, also. If you still have trouble, you might try melatonin also. I hope you're feeling better soon.
I don't think 8 years is all that much, I think it would be a lot of fun!
x
My SIL had it done about 1 1/2 years ago; had no ...
real problems; lost about 125 pounds. I also know a guy who had it about 2 years ago and has lost about 175 pounds. He really has not had problems either. You really have to research the doctor, though, and a lot of people have had problems with it.
BF for 6 years
Also does not make me a crazed lunatic, either - as many of you have alluded to - you would be very surprised if you met me on the street - I look just as normal as any of you - only probably slimmer and with larger natural breasts - and remember large areolas (LOL)
