12-year old girl forced to take pregnancy test due to school rumor

NEVADA CITY, Calif. -- A 12-year-old girl was forced to take a pregnancy test at school in Nevada City, a lawsuit filed in Nevada County Superior Court alleges.

The Pacific Justice Institute, which is representing the girl, said in a news release that Steve Davis, a counselor at Seven Hills Middle School, pulled the girl out of class.

KCRA 3 has decided not to name the girl out of protection for her privacy.

Davis heard rumors that she was pregnant and wanted to know if it was true, the release said.

Though she denied it and told Davis a classmate had spread rumors about her in the past, the counselor got a pregnancy test from the school nurse and told the 12-year-old to give a urine sample, the Pacific Justice Institute said.

The pregnancy test was negative.

According to the news release, the girl was embarrassed and humiliated, and her parents were angry when they found out.

They worked with the Pacific Justice Institute to get an apology from the Nevada City School District, but didn't receive one.

The lawsuit, filed Oct. 29, 2008, seeks damages for violation of the girl's right to privacy and emotional distress.

"There is no merit in the claim," Superintendent Roger Steel said. He directed further questions to the district's attorney.

Reached at home Monday night, Davis said he had no comment on the lawsuit.

Does it matter what time of day you take a pregnancy test??/

i've read that morning time is the best, but does it really matter?  i'm 37, had a tubal after my second pregnancy six years ago.  i'm a week and a half late.  i've never been this late before.  i figured i'd start with taking a home pregnancy test first.  i'm anxious to take it and don't want to wait until tomorrow, but heard morning time was the best time.

thanks

Now there's a rumor about that little girl being a fake.
I would hate to think that someone would ask a little kid to do something like that. Seems unlikely, but they did focus on her an awful lot. Thoughts?
Okay, I totally hate this rumor, hopefully rumor is all that it is. nm
!
I don't know what WASl test is but if it is anything like the TAKS test in Texas - then more powe
I hate standardized testing. I hate the way it is pushed and it is the only thing teachers 'preach' on the whole school year. Math and Reading is the big ones here until 5th grade and then science gets added in. Where is history? Where is grammar (no this is not included in the reading test)? Forget these stupid state standardized testing and get back to what is important.... an education!
Lets test the one giving the drug test, and (see message)
Lets make people who need to buy groceries take drug tests. Want to go to McDonalds? Hey need to take a drug test first. Need to renew your car registration - take a drug test. Want to go to a movie, better take a drug test. When will the insanity stop.
My sister once went to school with a girl named
For those 3 years everyone knew her as "Cindy". Then came Graduation, and the fact that they read out everyone's full, given name, and the truth was out. Bet she changed it when she turned 18!
I think the 14-year-old girl from
Maryland is just wonderful. Such poise, beauty and a great voice. I also like the cowboy with the rope routine!
Okay, here's a question for you from a 13 year old girl (sm)
My roommate's 13 yo daughter came and asked me this morning if I'd ever heard of this.  A friend of her's (a girl) told her that she read in a health book that if a boy drinks too much Gatorade/7-UP/Mountain Dew, that they can't make babies.  Now me, being 55 years of age, just about died laughing quietly because I find that hard to believe, but I promised I'd put the question out here.  Hey, it's been a long time since I read a health book, who knows??? do you???  Could this be true?  I told her I'd check it out.  Well, are they putting something in these drinks that causes this?  TIA.
Any thoughts of a 28-year-old girl and 54 yr old

Girl up for expulsion for taking birth control at school

This is a local story. Crazy, crazy, crazy.

Student Suspended for Popping Birth-Control Pill LSD or heroin use only gets five days out

By ASHA BEH

A gun or birth-control? Bringing either to school lands you a two-week suspension in Virginia.

A Fairfax County teen has been suspended for two weeks -- and might also get kicked out of school -- for popping a birth-control pill at school.

The honor student and lettered athlete at Oakton high school was caught taking the pill during lunch and soon found herself in the assistant principal's office, The Washington Post reported. During the meeting with her mother and the assistant principal, the school handed down the maximum sentence: a two-week suspension and recommendation for expulsion.

That's the rule in Virginia regarding prescription medications and illegal drugs on campus. And make no mistake, anti-teen pregnancy campaign or not, they take that rule seriously.

It's all in the Student Responsibilities and Rights handbook: If she had been caught high on LSD, heroin or another illegal drug, she would have been suspended for five days. Taking her prescribed birth-control pill on campus, on the other hand, gets the same punishment as bringing a gun to school.

My baby girl graduated high school today!
I didn't cry a bit.  I'm saving that for August when I take her to college.  I'm so very proud of her - high honor roll all year.  What a fine young woman she's become!  Just needed to brag a bit!
My 8-year-old girl loves Webkinz!
I like to help her decorate her room and make smoothies/sandwiches for her chihuahua. It's really fun. We have two other girls we know that are on her friends list. You can send little gifts and messages. It's safe too.
my 16-year-old girl wanted to give it up, so I did too.

survey on sixteen year old girl curfews - sm
Just taking a survey from all you parents of 16 yo girls out there...what is your curfew for your teen? Do you let her go out during the school week? If so, how often and what time does she need to be back? What about Friday and Saturday nights? Thanks for participating.
14-year-old girl faces pornography charge

There's got to be a better way of stopping this than possibly having her register as a sex offender at 14.

CLIFTON — A 14-year-old girl faces child pornography charges after she allegedly posted nearly 30 nude pictures of herself on a social networking site, authorities said.

Detectives with the Passaic County Sheriff’s Department’s Internet Crimes Unit arrested the teen Tuesday. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children contacted sheriff’s detectives about someone posting photos of an underage nude girl on a MySpace profile. The center, which monitors social networking sites for illegal images of children, contacted county detectives through the State Police’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, said Bill Maer, the sheriff’s department spokesman.

Following a month-long investigation, detectives discovered that the person posting the pictures was the same person featured in them — the 14-year-old girl. Anyone who was “friends” with the girl through MySpace or knew her full name could have accessed the photos.

The teen was charged with one count of possession of child pornography and one count of distribution of child pornography. She was released into her mother’s custody, Maer said.

The teen reportedly told police she posted the pictures into a photo album for her boyfriend’s enjoyment. More arrests may be forthcoming, Maer said. Maer said that North Jersey parents should make sure they are aware of their children’s activities on the Internet.

My 7-year-old girl is now wearing a size 6 ladies shoe...sm

I'm afraid to try to guess how much that foot is going to grow before she gets to high school!    She's also 2 heads taller than the kids in her class.

Anyone been able to get out of year-round school? sm
I applied last year for year-round school for my son - well I applied for magnet schools and clicked a box that said year round was an option for me.  He got in. My daughter was still in traditional.  We hated the year round schedule. Now they will not let him out. It is like we are trapped forever.  I just moved to another house and went to register him for a new school that is in our zone and was told that since there is a year-round option he still has to go to year round. I have to go to Growth Management to ask to get him out and they will probably say no.  What can I do? How can I get him out? Has anyone ever given them what they consider to be a valid reason?  I am very upset!
this year at our e.school they started a new thing...
the principal is a young hip guy...his new idea is called the "blue team", when a child is caught doing something "excellent", could be anything from getting along, teamwork, perfect paper..anything...the teacher writes a happy gram, sends him to the principal and he draws blue dots on one of their fingernails and is now "in the BLUE TEAM" ..its so corny, but eventually every child in the school is slowly recognized...its corny for sure but it gives them something to work towards.  my little kindergarten boy..who can be so difficult just thought it was the coolest thing ever.   my 3rd grade daughter got in at the beginning of the year and i really didnt think my son would, but just 2 weeks ago he did...he was so proud.  wouldnt let me wash his finger that whole night...its just simple things.....
That was me my senior year of high school.
Since kindergarten for me, I was always above average in school. I was always on the Honor Roll. I always did my homework. I always cared about my grades. In 9th, 10th and 11th grades I still cared. I was in the National Honor Society and still making As and Bs. If I made a C, I was crushed. Then my senior year of high school, something changed. Keep in mind, that the summer before my senior year, my dear Aunt passed away suddenly and we were very close. That year, it seemed like I just stopped caring. The classes I were in had none of my friends. My lunch period had none of my friends. I just usually stayed in the library during lunch. That was the 1st semester. I still did my work and tried to do good. Then the 2nd semester hit and I really stopped caring. I quit doing any school work and that was HIGHLY unusual for me. I was just so sick of school. In March with only 2 or 3 months to go til graduation, I dropped out. All my teachers called because they were just so shocked because I had always been such a good student. The counselors came out to my house and talked with my mom and thought I had social anxiety, but I wouldn't talk to them. I don't know what happened. I just knew that I hated school with a passion and couldn't bear going anymore. I spent like a year wasting around and then I knew I had to get my diploma. So I went to the community college and got my GED. And then I went on to college and got my Associate's. I think that nowadays, they just make school so aggravating and hard for kids. There are horrible teachers who don't care. They depend so much on students passing these end of grade tests instead of going by their grades throughout the year. Such as my cousin for ex., she in in 5th grade and had ADHD. She is in a special class. So far this year, she has made only 1 C. The school sent out a letter half way through the year saying she is in danger of failing. Now, does that make any sense? No. She does great in school but on those end of grade tests, she just does not do good. So, if she fails the end of grade testing, even if she was on the Honor Roll throughout the whole year, she fails her grade. That is NOT fair. The school systems are just stupid i think. I think a lot of kids, once they get to high school, are just so sick of school and how things are, they just don't want to care anymore. I am sure your son will get over this slump. But with me, I dropped out but I still ended up with a diploma and going to college, so I am sure he will turn out fine.
Well, I had to send my twin 3-year-olds to a school.
They are there all day long and I work all day. Paying for the daycare and making more money is about equal to when I worked at home with them in my way, only I am more sane for it and they are learning great social skills. I would really consider changing your hours and putting them in school/daycare/learning center, even if just for a few hours a day. It does help.

Like I said, I feel for you. I have twin 3-year-olds, and I swear they seem worse than when they were 2! LOL!
7-year-old with behavior problems at school inquiry...sm

Our 7-year-old has problems with peer relations, has always had this and it's getting worse.  She is a moody child and comes on too strongly with her peers which is why she doesn't have but 1 friend.

We're now having increasing problems with her talking back to the teachers at school when she's redirected for not doing as she's supposed to be doing in class.  We've had problems with both of these issues with her in the past but it was better last year when she was in a smaller classroom setting.   Now she's in a class with 25 kids and the problems are worse than ever.  Sigh.

We've tried role playing with her on how to respond to her peers appropriately.  She's been given everything from rewards for good behavior to restrictions for not behaving, but the problems continue.  The school psychologist has put her into a group of kids that have a hard time with peers once a week to help with the socialization skills.

Anyone else deal with this and if so, what strategies did you use to overcome this?  I'm more concerned about her negative responses to the teachers than anything.  We're not having problems with her behaving at home - it's only at school.  Any suggestions will be greatly welcome!

this is explained in writing beginning school year.

Still think no one was forced to do anything??? sm
From Wikipedia:
Jeffs' official title in the FLDS Church was "President and Prophet, Seer and Revelator". He also held the title of "President of the Priesthood". Jeffs was a counselor to his father Rulon Jeffs when the elder Jeffs held these leadership positions; upon the death of Rulon Jeffs in 2002, Warren Jeffs succeeded him and became FLDS Church leader.[9] One of Jeffs' statements after his father's death was directed at high-ranking officials in the church: "I won't say much, but I will say this—hands off my father's wives." Then addressing the recent widows, he said, "You women will live as if father is still alive and in the next room." Within a week, Warren had married all but two of his father's several dozen wives.[10] After this, he continued to marry more women, many of whom were close relatives. Because of his claimed descent from Jesus Christ and Joseph Smith, Jeffs has taught that his marriages are necessary to preserve sacred bloodlines.[citation needed]

Jeffs, the sole individual in the church who could perform marriages, was responsible for assigning wives to husbands. Jeffs also had the ability to punish men by "reassigning their wives, children and homes to another man."[11] Moreover, the FLDS Church owns essentially all of the homes and real estate in the areas where its members reside.

get your facts straight. Rosie signed a school year

that was when her original contract was supposed to expire, June 2007, a school-year yearly contract.  ABC wanted her to sign a 3-year contract for the amount of $$ she requested.........and she only wanted to sign a one-year contract.......

I will miss her as I had given up the View due to Star Jones' fiascos....and now, once again, after June, I will never watch it again.  Rosie brought the ratings up because after 9 years of Star Jones, people were tired of the show.

Ta-Ta to The View and ABC.....

People don't want to be FORCED to give charity. sm
People don't want to be TOLD that you WILL give up some of your extra for the other guy. Charity should be voluntary, and many see these programs as forced charity.
Dear Irritating People I Have Been Forced to Deal With:
1. I do not go to (insert activity/location here) to see your children run/scream/cry/break things. They may be your "angels" but I am thinking of another word. Please teach them how to behave in public places.

2. You may live in my neighborhood, but you do not own it. I have a right to privacy/quiet/sleep. Just because you do not have to work/go to school/pay bills does not mean that my family and I do not, so please learn how to turn it down/stop fighting with your significant other at 2 a.m./keep your children from screaming so loudly I can hear them from the other end of the block at 11 p.m. at night.

3. Yes your car is pretty. I am sure you spent a lot of money on it. This does not mean that when you rev your engine or squeal your tires that I am going to appreciate it, much less be impressed by it. I understand the male need to show off his vehicle once in a while, but must you do this EVERY time you go past my house, all 500 times a day? I thought most people had to have jobs to pay for a car like that. Shall we guess what you do for a living?

4. Lastly, for those who are the most annoying to deal with - the stupid people. By this I do not mean mentally challenged in any true form. This is aimed at all those who would like to think they are smart. Please do not try to lecture me/argue with me/or try to put me down using words you do not understand. The dictionary exists for a reason. I would even lend you mine if you asked for it.

Sincerely,

The person who secretly wishes to violently shake you while asking what the **** is wrong with you people!
Y&R (heard a rumor)
That Joshua Morrow is going to be back on, but not as Nick - as Victor, Jr.!!
Y&R (heard a rumor)
that Nick will be returning as Victor, Jr.  So that means the actor will be on the show, but Nick will still be dead.
Heard a rumor
that Ashley is leaving Bold & Beautiful. Maybe she is headed back to Genoa City. She used to be on Days and actucally she could really spice things up there if she returned.
Just a rumor and no telling where she may end up. nm

I know. It disappeared. That is why I'm wondering if it was just a rumor. Hopefully. nm

Call the school. I had a threat like this in my high school and they cancelled school that day.
Thankfully, because the person making the threats was found with material for home made pipe bombs and quit a bit of ammunition and a shotgun. He was arrested and charged. Never allowed back in the school.

I think it would be safer to call the school and get classes cancelled for a day to investigate versus make a scene in the parking lot, especially if the student with the knife is inside with the knife.

Good luck. If nothing happens, pull your child out of school for a week. See what happens. I know that sounds horrible, but small towns is where this happens most often.
NOT TRUE!! Just went to a link and it is a FALSE RUMOR. How horrible..nm

pregnancy
I tend to agree with NM poster below because the very first time I got pregnant I told everyone right away and everyone went nuts with excitement, especially the grandmothers to be.  Then about 2 1/2 months into my pregnancy I miscarried and had to explain to everyone, and they had to explain to everyone.  It was really depressing.  I had what they called a "blighted ovum" which means the division of cells never really went very far.  So the next time I got pregnant, I waited until after the three month mark.  I later found out most miscarriages occur within the first three months.  Good question, by the way.  Are you pregnant for the first time?
My MIL did- every other pregnancy - has 2 kids - sm
Had a son, miscarried on preg#2, had another son, miscarried on preg#4 - no clue if there was a specific reason. I also know someone who miscarried 5 x and the 6th time she was able to carry the baby to full-term. In her case it was her pelvic bones, they just were not strong enough to carry a baby and she would not stay in bed (had to have bed rest the whole time in order to carry the baby), either she finally listened to her Dr. after 5 miscarriages or her bones got stronger (she was rather young 18-22 during all this). I have no idea if she has had more kids as we lost touch.
I also had googled a TL with my last pregnancy...
5 years ago to research it and had found that informative site. It scared me into not doing it and glad I didn't. I'm on the Pill and hardly get a period, plus it lowers your chances of getting cervical cancer due to not ovulating. I would say no to doing it. I feel bad for the women who have.
intrauterine pregnancy
isn't this such a silly phrase? it hit me tonight...where else would your pregnancy be? LOL
Pregnancy question.

Hello everyone.

I had a question for all you mothers out there. I'm just around the 8 month mark and i was just wondering if anybody had any good tips about sleeping!  I don't want to spend the $50 or whatever it is for one of those body pillows so i thought i'd see how everyone else who didn't want to spend the money was creative enough to get through the night.

Thanks!

Another pregnancy question.

I'm 32 weeks and sometimes when i'm sitting perfectly still on the couch or something the baby moves and i can hear a snapping sound, like when you bend down and your knee snaps. It's not quite as loud but it's still there. I was wondering if anyone else heard this?! I'm assuming it's my skin stretching or something because i can't imagine the baby has joints popping! lol it just seemed a little weird and just wondering if anyone else has heard of this.

- Thanks!

No uterus , no pregnancy I would think???- sm
sounds kind of weird. She sounds like a flake. I'd offer to go with her to her OB and try and get the skinny on that one!
Concerning post below about possible pregnancy...
Guess what!  I am pregnant.  I took 2 tests today and both turned out positive.  I am so happy but I am now worrying about health coverage.  I do not have any medical insurance.  What kind of coverage can I get when I am already pregnant?  Please please any advice is much appreciated.  Thanks!!!
Bloating during pregnancy!
I truly hope that one of you have some words of wisdom for me.  I'm 7 wks pregnant and my biggest problem is bloating.  If I don't eat, I literally get nauseated and want to throw up.  When I eat, I feel okay until a few minutes after I eat and then I feel bloated like crazy.  I can't hardly wear my jeans for the bloating because it makes me feel miserable.  I never had this problem with my first pregnancy. I haven't even gained any weight and so I know I'm not just porking out and getting fat.  This is all bloat.  ARGH!  Please help!!!  Any helpful suggestion?
I'm pregnant - 5 weeks along, 1st pregnancy....sm
My husband & I are thrilled that we conceived so quickly, especially with my being 43 and him being 50.  We got married in June and started trying then.  His 15-year-old daughter and our 6-year-old foster daughter are excited.  Next year will be fabulous as we'll be finalizing the adoption of our foster daughter in January and having a baby in June!
Boy - this is so variable. With my first pregnancy, hate to
tell you, I was sick the "whole 9 months", even the day he was born. Every morning at work I had saltine crackers and coke for breakfast(Ugh)as that was the only thing that calmed my stomach down. My two previous pregnancies, I had no morning sickness !
changing your OB in the last month of pregnancy?

I was just wondering if anyone here had any experience with changing your OB in the last month of pregnancy? Or if anyone knows anyone who changed their OB late in pregnancy?

Without going into too many details, my OB was away on a personal emergency this week and her partner was not in the office due to the holiday. I was having some problems this week and I needed an OB on Friday. I called but my OB's office only had a recorded message. There was no answering service. So I stuck it out until Satruday and went to the emergency room at the hospital where I was supposed to be delivering this baby. The Triage Nurse at the hospital was so awful and mean to me that I burst into tears and stormed out of there. She didn't flat out refuse me medical attention, but she gave me such a hard time about being there that she made me feel very uncomfortable, and in so many words she forced me out. She was the nastiest most unprofessional person I have ever dealt with in the healthcare industry. DH agrees.

So now DH and I are totally turned off to that hospital and I don't feel comfortable at all delivering there. Fortunately for us, we have 2 other excellent hopsitals close to our house. The problem is, my OB only delivers out of the hospital where I had this incident. So I was thinking of changing back to my old OB for the end of the pregnancy. He delivered my nephew and my sister said she liked him and had no problems with him. But he has not dealt with me pregnant. I just went to him for 2 annual checkups several years ago, then decided to change over to my current OB because my sisters and friends raved about her.

And it's really been a textbook pregnancy -- no problems with me or the baby. He would just need my records sent to him, and he'd need to know that I will be a scheduled c-section. Really at this point all I need is for someone to go in there and get the baby out for me.

Any advice? Do you think he would refuse my case since I'm 35 weeks already? The whole incident is unfortunate, and I love my OB, but I am so turned off to the hospital that I'd be willing to go with another OB just to be able to deliver out of another hospital where we'll feel comfortable and taken care of.

Very few rapes result in pregnancy. So now what?

.

Anyone ever been really heavy and have a healthy pregnancy? sm
Well I am at 325 and pregnant.  Yes, I am tall but still that weight is very, very disgusting.  I wonder how I got to this place.  But I am so worried about my weight affecting the baby. The baby was nto planned - was a complete surprise.  A welcome surprise though. But I never thought I would be able to get pregnant while being this heavy.  I don't why I thought that but I truly did.  I am just wondering if anyone has been really overweight and how it affected your pregnancy. The doctors don't really see any harm in it, or so they say, but I am still a bit worried.  Thanks for all input.  I am getting the Lap band after I have the baby. I want to be healthy for my family after this and it seems like a reasonable option.  Thanks everyone.  Have a great Thanksgiving!
I was "only" 65 lbs overweight with 2nd pregnancy...
but I was so horribly ill with 24-hour morning sickness that I walked out of the hospital 12 pounds lighter than I was at the beginning of my pregnancy. I certainly wouldn't recommend that method of weight loss! I was in and out of the hospital the entire time of my pregnancy for dehydration and IVs. Every moment of that pregnancy was a struggle with food; thinking about it, trying to keep it down, worrying about the baby.

In the end, it worked out. He was born 2 weeks early and was 8 lbs, 2 ozs. Within 24 hours I was eating like a horse again, and I was great while nursing for 6 months. But eventually, the glory days of eating and not gaining weight were gone. Now, 17 years after that pregnancy, I'm 80 pounds overweight. Sigh.

I had bleeding for the first four months of my first pregnancy...
and I had a test that said I was not pregnant, so I thought something was seriously wrong with me. My symptoms with the first and the second were nausea and exhaustion, but the exhaustion came well before the nausea. I knew I was pregnant with my second son when I couldn't make it through the day without a nap! Good luck to you and I hope you are!
how much did u gain from swelling in pregnancy?

I am almost 37 weeks along with my first child (girl!). I have gained a third of my pregnancy weight in the last month due to giant man feet and ankles. Yuck! I haven't worn my wedding ring for months-the hands were swollen first, but then came the feet. I had to wear my new found velcro strap sandles to my anniversary dinner this week. I had on a lovely skyblue knit dress with a beautiful blue topaz necklace my husband bought as an anniversary gift, and it was all topped off with my velcro summer sandles.  I just had to giggle at myself, but really when no other shoe fits what are you supposed to do?

Does anyone else have some good stories so I know I'm not alone? Thanks.

Ask before you test..
Just ask before you test if they are willing to pay you X amount if you test well. If they say no, don't bother testing. Good luck!
