Prognosis please...is there a

80-year-old female with slight dementia, peripheral neuropathy, and previous mechanical heart valve replacement in 1995.   Currently in hospital with pneumonia on breathing treatments, IV fluids and antibiotics.  What would you give as a prognosis, given the previous history of heart valve replacement?

because she is 80-years-old, things happen very quickly in patient's this age. Most of the time when hospitalized, other things hit very quickly and the outcome is not good. Just speaking from experience, lots of it!
Pancreatic cancer has a very poor prognosis.

They may publicly say he is "doing well," but that may just mean his pain is under control.  I'm sure they (his doctor/family) don't want to come up and say yes it's true, he will die soon.  If he does indeed pancreatic cancer, my guess is he doesn't have long.


You didn't ask for a diagnosis. You asked for a prognosis. nm
