I actually grew up in the village of Catskill. I lived in Albany for a while, but am now near Rochester. Very cool.

Really small world.
I have friends who live in Cabot, one of whom I believe is the director of nurses at Children's.
Small World. Hi neighbor!!
*waving*
"It's A Small World After All" --
Ever gone to Disneyland and stood in the long line outside of the Small World ride? They play the song about 4 million times, and that's before you ever even get in there and get into the car, or boat, or whatever it is. By the time you're halfway through the ride, you'll feel ready to jump out and run screaming for the exit. Not to mention having the rest of your day at Disneyland tainted by that song running through your head hour after hour.

So then, at the end of the day you attend the Main Street Electrical Parade, and the theme song for that one is even more insidious and intrusive on your brain than Small World!

Still worse is the fact that it's written to run in counterpoint with "It's a Small World", "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah", and just about every other well-known Disney song. So NOW your poor brain has multiple, unstoppable songs bouncing around the inside of your skull, possibly for DAYS.

Yes, those songs are EVIL -- probably some form of "Disney Mind Control"..........
You can ask if it is small
enough to do without anesthesia, and hopefully your dentist has a good idea of the cavity's size and can judge that for you. Without anesthesia there is some heat and pressure and I guess there was slight pain.

Some dentists are extremely good at giving the shots and it's not bad at all.

I'm sorry you have your first cavity. I was in my 20s myself. Just don't wait on getting it fixed and you'll just have a small filling that hopefully won't give you any problems for 20 years or more.
Not in my world
Unfortunately, my divorce was nasty, ugly, hateful and I wouldn't want to ever go through that again.
Cut off from the world
I know what you mean.  I have been working from home for 5 years now and I do miss being around people but I don't miss office politics one bit either.
Third world?

Where in the world have you been?
They have excellent swimming (not the pools) but man-made beaches there and you can get hopper pass and go to those beaches just like you can visit Tomorrow Land, MGM or whatever. You apparently don’t know about the other places available to customers.
It probably comes from anywhere in the world, but - sm
I hear that a LOT of it comes from S. Africa, Philippines, Singapore, etc. Could be coming from next-door, too. You just never know. It's so frustrating because even though I have a 'Report Spam' feature on my e-mail, and I report & then delete these several times a day, they keep reappearing. All they have to do is slightly change the spelling or the word-arrangement, and it's back again. The latest ones I'm getting are about 'Replica' watches and 'Rolex' watches. The only watch I have, I never wear, and I didn't buy it online or with a credit card, I paid $10 cash for it at Wal-Mart.

Anyway, I think they're looking for more than just 'sales' - I never open those up, but fear that even moving them from my bulk mail folder to my incoming mail folder to report them as Spam is somehow registering my e-mail addressing with someone, somewhere. Haha -- Maybe we should all flood those addresses with Spam e-mails offering to sell them 'beach-front' property in Kansas!
;D
Why in the world would you ever think
others might think these protesters were Christians? I think most humans have the intelligence to tell the difference between 1 or the other. I am sure most all know her name, Eve as this was a story not just in North Carolina but nationwise and probably global as well.
it's a mad mad world
Well going from a very very nice pay check to $0 is very very hard. In all fairness to him the contract he worked on ended. We were living in an area at that time that was in a depression. So we moved out of the area (after one to two years of being unemployed), I got work he didn't, we moved again I got work again and he didn't, two more times we moved to areas where I could get work and he couldn't. He wants to get work but everytime he applies for something they tell him he's over qualified. We live in a very small town (under 10K people) and what he has his experience in we would have to move to the nearest town which is about a 4 hour drive to get the type of work he's done in the past. Which means that whatever he would make would be paid out in higher rent, gas, etc, etc. (not to include the cost of 3 large (24-foot) moving trucks to move all our stuff). So, we've just got to put our "noggins" together to try and figure something out. But I am getting tired of talking every 3 or 4 hours about it and the changing of his mind with I'm going to do this, then that, then this, then back to that again, then something new, then that again. What's that quote from the movie - "I'm mad as he!! and I'm not going to take it anymore". HA HA
What's up with the world anyway?
I think it is sad and disgusting that creatures eat each other ... what kind of a plan is that?!!?
welcome to my world

I am a news junkie.  I hope I don't tread on the political aura because that is not my intention.  I've been watching CNN regarding how one can cut back to survive in this ecomony.  Every tip is MY LIFE for the last 10, 20 or more years!!  So what does one do who HAS been living a frugal lifestyle and finds themselves STILL having to cut back?

As a disclaimer, I am okay, as I have been living somewhat frugally, and have (for now anyhow) a good job.  I just worry about those who have lived as I have and then find themselves in a fix, with nothing else to shut off...

Mad World, etc

For some reason Adam's performance was not aired when I watched AI Tuesday night, unless I blinked and missed it somehow! I can't say I have liked every one of his performances, but he is ALWAYS memorable. He is the son of one of my high school classmates and I do hope he wins.  Does anyone know of a link I can go to watch it?

As far as the new judge, Kara?, I much prefer her over Paula Abdul any day.  At least she is coherent when she gives advice, etc to the contestants.

What in the world?

Sorry CrankyBeach,

This has nothing to do with what was posted, but what in the world is that in your picture????

Why in the world would you do something like that
I cannot understand people who feel they need to do something like this. That child and her mother's personal business is no business of anyone else and certainly not the governments. If the mother can find an alternative health care (which she is in the process of doing), she is more than capable of taking care of her own child and trying to get the help her child needs so he can live and be cured. Not taking him the route that he will eventually die from. Why would anyone stick their nose where it doesn't belong and aid in the quick and horrible and painful death of the child.

I'm not mad at you, I'm trying to understand why anyone would do something this cruel to somebody else.

The mother is trying to save her child's life and the govt is trying to force him into taking a drug that will certainly meet with the end result of death, and months and months of horrible horrible pain and side effects. Until you live with someone and watch them go through the horrible death that chemo brings it's hard to fathom what it does to someone. It not only destroys their immune system and they throw up, cannot eat, go through depression, and basically beg for death. There is nothing worse than when I was hugging my mom while she was sitting on the toilet constipated for days, crying and screaming in pain and wishing to die. I have never been through a more depressing situation and her telling me how humiliating for her and I should go home and not see her this way. Her hair fell out and she said she felt ugly and worthless (she has always been a beautiful woman no matter what). It's heart-wrenching to sit here and relieve those memories. Then to hear that someone would turn someone in for them to undergo the same fate as what my mom and 3 other relatives of mine went through. I just don't understand it.
What about her 2 small children?
That is what really bugs me about her and her behavior. What kind of role model is this for her children?? Just irks me to death what she has been doing. I do not care that she has a nanny or someone watching those kids. Why did she have them????? if all she wanted to do was party and act like a spoiled brat?
For that small amount, can't you take
xx
We have a small one and really enjoy it.
I don't think the taste is affected at all.
Small prime rib

Go onto Food Network and see this recipe Prime Rib with Shoe String Fries with Cabrales Blue Cheese Dip by Bobby Flay.  I followed the Prime Rib and it was wonderful.  I did put some crushed garlic on the outside as well as the garlic pieces inside.  Got more compliments from my guests.

Good luck

No it's not really. Small prey will set
off the prey drive in some dogs, and it's often a breed trait. But all dogs should be socialized to children. While cats should be kept inside IMO, the dogs shouldn't be running loose either, and the dogs are upsetting the balance that had previously existed. The parents obviously aren't set up to contain dogs. So the dog owner should offer to put up a fence that will contain her dogs (and those underground electrical fences won't work due to the cats being able to enter the area). If she can't do that or the parents don't want a fence, then she is very, very wrong to be dropping her dogs off at her parent's house. She's responsible for the dogs, not her parents.
Small Pleasures....

ok, let's have a positive poll for a new perspective here!

What little thing do you do that brightens your day, whether it's every day or just when you can? A favorite routine, a little touch of color at your desk, whatever.

Unfortunately the towers are too small
for the big cat and I just can't imagine building him a custom play tower. It would take up the whole living room!! I do have this thing that is like a pole with a bunch of arms sticking out with little balls tied to them. They love that.
Even if I started out small
do you think I would need all that legal stuff - licenses, health inspections? At first I was hoping to make money "under the table" so to speak. I don't want to be a large corporation because it would be just me baking so don't think I could handle that much.

I am in a small town between
Abilene and San Angelo called Ballinger.  My husband has relatives in Abilene.
also being from a small town...
I would call and speak to the principal directly about what you heard. You can do this anonymous if you want, just don't use your phone as they very often have caller id now. I think it is up to the principal to decide if the comments of your child/friends have any merit. The principal should have ALL information and he/she should go from there. To me, my first and foremost priority would be my child. As for this child being falsely accused of something...well...maybe his parents should have taught him to be prepared to deal with the possible consequences of his actions. All kids make mistakes but sooner or later this individual will have to answer for his remarks and take responsibilty for himself - from my point of view, the sooner the better. I would definitely want to know if my child was speaking to others in this manner. I would not want to jump to conclusions but if your gut feelings say to keep your child home from school, do it. Missing a couple days from school is not the end of the world and I am certain he will not be the only one.
By small, I mean size 7 or under. I only wish I was.

In my small town
He was a city boy from 12 hours away living with a cousin for a while. I was a small town country girl. We met one night after I got off work and met up with my best friend to go "riding" around. He was with a friend of mine who was his cousin's girlfriend. We got into her car and rode around together. He was asking my friend about me that same night. He finally called about a month later after some misinformation that I was seeing someone and we've been together ever since. I was 16, he was 19. Married 12 years this year with the three best kids in the world!
Not everyone lives in small towns

I took the bus and T (subway in Boston) to high school and college, as did most kids.  Try parking in Harvard Square, or anywhere in Boston for that matter.

When I moved out west to continue college in a city that did not have great public transport, I lived on campus for the first year without a car.  After that I bought one for $1000, and insured it for $35/mo (this was in 1993).

My mom does not even have a DL, and did not have the money to pay my tuition, let alone get me a car for school, yet somehow we made it.  Kids don't NEED cars in high school.  There is always the big yellow bus if you live somewhere there is not public transportation.  I was shocked to see how many high school kids were driving around in new SUVs and sports cars like Mustangs where I used to live in the South.

Since it is a small dog, assuming it's healthy,
it actually should not be hard to place. Do contact rescues in your area if you don't have a network of dog-loving people you really know well. Also vets' offices. See if they will put up signs. Sometimes when people lose a pet, they want to get a nice adult dog fast so they won't be alone.
I'm also in NC, and I know a woman who wants a small dog. She's in her 50s, either divored or widowed, needs a small, clean, adult dog that's already trained and won't cost her a fortune. Look for somebody like that.
So sad she has left a small baby as well. nm

Yes..in the small shops that are Asian run...many to..
choose from. My sis and I saw one lady buy $500 worth of purses, we counted 15 that she had. Every top of the line brand you can imagine. Next year when we go I am bringing and extra suitcase to haul more home! We ate at LA Mela, a fabulous Italian restaurant on Mulberry Street. Sis and I are Italian, so we know good, homemade Italian food and this was top notch! We and our spouses ate and had a bottle of wine, only paid $130 for all of us.
Tell her not to sweat the small stuff...
I read recently that wearing red to a wedding is considered bad luck. News to me! (In some cultures the bride wears red!) Does she really think she can control what all the guests wear? If your dress color is such a big concern she should have told you long ago, so it sounds to me that putting you in charge of the guest book is a recent thing. Keep it pleasant, otherwise you'll be blamed for causing a problem, but tell her you'll pass on that responsibility so you can enjoy the wedding.
Small children, in first grade and
3rd or 4th but I remember feeling so special when I was in a child about this age because I had diamond rings (not big, chip diamonds mostly) that my grandmother gave me, had several boxes of them and if I lost 1 I chose another. I am not talking about spending over 50$ apiece on these.
Small print receipes? sm
I just recieved an e-mail from dccase complaining about the small print on a receipe from a Bobby Flay show for enchiladas.  If dccase reads this, I think maybe you sent the e-mail to the wrong address.
I am talking about small branches of
shrubbery, greenery around the home. You do not have to leave welts but a few quick hits on the legs (I personally would have them undress) now flame me anyone for that statement but this kid is not doing anything but ranting and raving. Fight fire with fire. I have never used paint stirrer- the switches worked so well with kids.
start with small steps

It does sound like separation anxiety.  I've had this.  I start with small steps -- going out and driving around a couple of blocks and then coming back home again.  Then I increase the amount of time I am driving little by little.  She knows Mom will be back this way and over time has gotten used to my being gone for hours.  She had been abused when I got her and was a wreck emotionally so I hope this gives you comfort.

I also keep the atmosphere at home the same when I go out as when I am home -- radio playing, lights on, etc.  No drastic changes except for me being gone.  My pets like New Age.  Puts them right to sleep.  (me too sometimes).

If you have an answering machine, call home and just talk to the dog as you would if you were there.  Let him hear your voice.  He might just think you are in another room, but with your dog he might tear down the doors to get to you so I don't know about this for your circumstances.

I also have a roomy crate near my desk and I keep a pair of slippers near it.  I have a couple of cats and a dog. They all argue over who's crate it is, as they think it is their "special place."  The door is left open all the time.  Often I find them all in there snuggled up together.  But this gives them a feeling of a special place whether I am here or not.  They have their place, I have mine.  I think this helps when I am gone because I often find my dog has dragged her favorite blanket over to the crate while I was gone.  My scent is on the slippers and that comforts her.

Also, bringing home a treat helps!

I have a cat who pries the cabinet doors open and curls up inside the frying pans.  Now I have an obstacle course of buckets, etc. to climb over as I work at the counter!  (If I move them, I forget to put them back until I hear him close the cabinet door behind himself.)

There are more tricks out there somewhere but I can't remember any of them.  Hope you find something that works for you.  That's a BIG problem in more ways than one!

Howdy! I am from a small town
between Abilene and San Angelo called Ballinger.
Maybe the small town gal coming out in me,
but I'd help as much as I could. My mom's that bad with a computer, and after I got it straightened out for her when it was really bad..most of the time it's something really simple. She'll say something like that where her email won't come up and it's just that she's hitting the wrong button or has her number lock key on or something. I guess maybe you could ask yourself if you or your hubby were away and something happened, would they help you? If the answer is no, then by all means let them fend for themselves. Like I said, might be the small town gal in me, but we help our neighbors any time they need it and we're able to.
Too small for me... love my SUV and not giving it up...

and will be getting another one. Prius and the like okay for in town driving but I live rurally, shop once a week, load up the SUV and it's done. My gas mileage is 20 -24 mpg and I can afford the gas.

Looking for small dog good with kids..sm

My husband and I are dog hunting and have decided to get a small dog (no bigger than a spaniel) that is good with kids (we don't have any children yet) and is not yappy or really hyper.  Any ideas?

Thx

We were introduced in a small local
hole-in-the wall bar we both hung out at by one of my friend's husband who was a mutual friend. Been together for 9 years.

Exactly. If you were in a small dark place that
that was too dark to be able to see, you'd still be claustrophobic.
Small town isolation
I have lived in small towns for nearly 40 years. Newcomers are not welcomed very well. I had a person at church tell me thank for coming to their church after being a member for many years. They are not a bit backward in ignoring you at pubic events.
Since you live in a small town
and you say people know your dog, perhaps you could leave your new address and phone # with several people. If he does show up, surely someone will contact you. Wishing you the best.
Small claims court.
Call your local legal aid. They should be able to tell you if you have a case. I think you might be able to take her to small claims court. She is not holding up her end of the bargain.
1st of all I said this *country* - not world...sm
Secondly, it's not just the Christians, I beg to differ.......there's plenty of other religious groups in the USA - that this effects.....and who have been oppressed for a couple of centuries as I see it.
What is this world coming to?

The clue for your caller would have been when you said "hello"?  Don't ya' think?
