I'm sorry about your husband's death.  You must both miss him very much.

And cost wise?
Read all the above and thanks so much. Now in the midst of trying to get my yard in shape after the grubs set in and do not want to spend an arm and a leg on flooring. Thanks again.
Cost wise?
Heard sodding expensive.
very wise advice about how to go about
It keeps it from looking like a competition or disapproval, and more about the longterm effects of treating a child over-the-top and how they might interpret that as they are "damaged." A+ advice!
She may be able to work her way up job-wise
xx
Its wise to stay away
I had a C-section and had planned to stay at my mom's for a week or so to recuperate.  As soon as I got there, I put the baby in the cradle in the living room and started to put some things away in the bedroom.  I could hear my step-dad saying "get 'im, get 'im" to his dog....I went out there and he was actually encouraging his schnauzer to mess with the baby!  I came real close to braining him with a can of tomatoes over it.  I left and refused to bring the baby to their house as long as he was in it.  My mom, too, chose the step-dad over her kids.  Now he's dead and her relationship with her kids is rocky, and she regrets it.
Wise ol' soul

I really do, especially around this time of year. But, I ws lucky to have him as long as i did.

And, Silver has always been a wise ol' soul. He is a great comfort. But, unfortunately Silver has cancer and is getting really thin.  So, I think he will be with my husband before too long.

That picture was taken a few years ago.

I like those words - very very wise
Going to remember that one.
What would you do - survival wise
Thinking about the storm Gustave (sorry, don't know how to spell it or want to open up new window to find correct spelling), but it brings me to another question I wanted to ask.  If you knew an impending storm (or some other disaster) was heading your way, and you would be out of power for 30 days (no refrigeration or electricity/gas) and was stuck in your home and could not leave (roads blocked or whatever reason) and you had time to prepare ahead of time.  What kinds of foods would you have on hand in your "emergency stash" and what types of things would you eat.
Wow, ya'll are so wise -- thanks

Appreciate any comments/advice.  Keep it up!  Thanks a lot.

Age wise, I am 10 years
older than DH.
You are wise and a very good person (sm)
Your daughter and granddaughter are very lucky to have you, especially your granddaughter.

Everything you said is true.

The best thing I ever did for my kids after divorce was never to say an unkind word about their father, never put them in the middle, and the parade of frogs was a definite no-no!

Your advice was excellent. You SHOULD write a book!! As many divorces as there are any more, you would think this issue would have more emphasis in some form of media.
Personality wise? I am probably most like Blanche! LOL

your grandmother=wise woman..saying comes from

Woman

was made from the rib of man, she was not created from his head-to top him, nor from his feet-to be stepped upon.

She was made from his side, to be equal to him; from beneath his arm-to be protected by him; near his heart-to be loved by him.

From The Talmud

Wise words, I second the rec. for the above post
Excellent points all.
I think that is a wise choice. So glad
you brought dad into this! It is just too much for one - I know because I was the only one.
Please forgive the double post. Wise NM
x
You sound like a very wise person and I a glad to that
he did understand.  Over-the-top is never good.  Not for an adult and certainly not for a child.  A gift with meaning and purpose is more cherished than a trunk load of junk and will be remembered, not thrown away.
LOL- she sounds wise beyond her years. She's lucky to have you. nm

A wise 1st grade teacher told us...
"If you won't believe that I was mean to your kids, I won't believe that you had dog food for dinner last night."
Wise words, bright side....
I had a mini-meltdown several months ago when the work pretty much dried up for awhile. My SO was so very supportive and reminded me that no matter what happened, even if we ended up living in a cardboard box, we would have each other and no one could take that away from us.

I'd always been extremely strong and independent before I met him, and would struggle through things alone and silently, always hiding behind the "everything is just fine" facade to everyone I knew.

It's so nice to have someone to love and trust and turn to for support when things get rough.

Knowing that someone is waiting right there to catch you if you start to fall off the edge is something no amount of money can buy.

Hang in there, backwardstypist...Things will work out for you and your DH.
what a wise, insightful and compassionate comment.
I wish you all the best and that you come out as a winner because you deserve it.
Percentage-wise, shoplifting is a more likely source of
I was horrified, what - a year ago? - to watch an episode of Oprah where three teenage girls AND THEIR MOTHERS were guests saying in front of God and the world that the girls engage in oral sex, how common it was, etc.

There was some point in this country when we decided that "shame" was bad (the oxymoronic suggestion being that we should be ashamed of shame!) - and nothing good has come out of this ridiculous 'progressive humanist' idea or its twin - the notion that outcomes should be the same for everyone regardless of their ability or effort.

Let's get the notion of shame back on stage - front and center. There ARE things that humans do that SHOULD make them feel shame and guilt. When we lose our ability to experience guilt, we have...let's see now, what do we have again? Oh yes, now I remember - we have Bernie Madoff and his $50 billion scam, television you can no longer watch with your children, teachers seducing their students, and a whole lot of other very unpleasant consequences.
Your aunt is a wise woman, and she is a strong person
for being a Pastor's wife. For some reason, Pastors seem to be the most difficult to understand about how to be sensitive to people, when it is their job to do so. No offense to pastors and to my husband. But when I loved him best when he delivered pizza and Sunday mornings I still feel put off. And those are the mornings I am probably the most up in arms about this control issue. I dont think that is what the Bible meant either. Thanks for your comment. Your aunt also sounds like she was a great example to women and men alike as the pastor's wife. :)
Egg on his face as in him saying
that the YOUNG women were going to go in droves to vote for her as they did not want to take care of their own selves, either getting a husband to take care of them or else having government to do. I know older women voted that way, their choice but I said egg on his face for making such remarks on and on about how YOUNG women (under 35) were going in that direction. Has absolutely nothing to do with her leading- has everything to do with a statement completely false. Now are you still confused?
Egg on face
I personally know of at least 10 to 15 ladies that feel it is the man's place to take care of them and that is all they want out of life -- they are between 38 and 50.  So now what do you say -- sorry I do not want this lady voted for because she is a woman, and I definitely do not want her leading us.  But that is for the political board and not here.  But egg on face -- you have some now.
Maybe take it for it's face value
and just accept it in the spirit in which it may be given.  Only you know the relationship you have with her.  She may have just gotten the proverbial bug up you know where and decided since she got a discount to use it.  It may be an olive branch of some sort.  Who knows.  I'd take it as an olive branch unless and until she proves otherwise.
What Do You Have On Your Face?
I wear very natural looking make up - but today I was cracking up when getting read at how much crap is on my face.

After washing ::

Serum
Moisturizer (both things Dr Brandt)
Face Primer (either Smashbox or Sephora brand depending on mood)
Foundation (tarte with SPF 30)
Blush/Bronzer
Eyeliner (MAC)
Kohl (MAC)
Mascara (fiberwig)

No lipstick- allergies.

What is usually on your face???

Face
Usually nothing more than a little chapstick since I work from home.  If I'm leaving the house, a little foundation but right now, nothing.  I even forgot the chapstick this morning LOL.
Face Creams

I was wondering if any one has any good suggestions for face creams.  I use to use the Mary Kay face cream line, but I would like to try something else.  Any suggestions?

Thanks!

face pain
Need to know if anyone else has face pain.  It is under my eyes and on the side of my nose.  Sometimes it is so bad I could scream.  It feels like sinuses but CT scan was normal.  Only goes away with ibuprofen.  How long can I take ibuprofen for?
face pain
thanks
What a face! Sweet!

shingles on face

About 4 years ago, I had a mastoidectomy the middle of May.  The middle of June, I came in exposure range with a child with chickenpox at Wal-Mart, and 2 weeks later I developed shingles.  Could have been coincidence, but I figure stress related, and I, too, have hypothyroidism.  No other testing was done, but it hurt so bad I couldn't even touch my hair let alone my head.  I had it on right forehead, bridge of nose, and up through scalp.

By the way, something else that really helps with the healing process and pain of it all is Pantothenic acid capsules from the herbal store.

What a face! Love him!
I think we are blessed to share our lives with these animals, they love so unconditionally.  My heart breaks when I hear about animal abuse.
Well maybe the body but NO WAY that face.
I'd rather be fat and pretty. LOL
She looks to have had a face lift that
did not go well. She has not appeared anywhere in 7 years so quite a different look than when I last saw her.
Keep your hands off your face
and be very gentle with the skin around your eyes and face. I see other people rub their eyes and faces vigorously when they're tired, and when the hands come down, I see wrinkles around the eyes. I'm 45 and people think I'm as young as 26. I do have the dark circles, which I have to cover with 16-hour foundation in a shade lighter than my regular foundation. Then I set with powder. I sometimes apply a dab of pink powder to the darkest areas or the inside corner area. This is what the makeup artist from What Not To Wear does to counter darkness. Preparation H is supposed to shrink bags.
How often can she wash her face? sm

Can you imagine having to take all of those, or even 1/2, off first?  What a job.

Anyone used Strivectin or similar for face? (sm)

I am looking for something to help with mostly discoloration/sun spots, and wrinkles.  I see all the ads for Strivectin and such but hate to spend that much without knowing it will actually work.  Has anyone used it and was it any good?  Or can you recommend anything else?  Thanks!

Oh my gosh - what a cute face and
what rich colors. Those ears look so soft.

That's one handsome beagle!

I bet beagles like games where you hide their favorite treat or toy and they have to sniff it out.

I just had to splash icewater on my face!
Doncha just hate the afternoon run downs?  Coffee just doesn't work on me for some reason...all it does is make me pee but doesn't jazz me up or anything.  I'm actually looking forward to the cool weather because for some reason THAT is what gets me going and feeling frisky.  :-D
Several have come forward to plaster their face on TV
and apparently he inappropriately touched some of them so yes he is on the wanted list. You would think by the time women get to be, oh say 17 or 18, that they would have the sense to know when something really wrong as in this case. One lady shown long enough in the tooth to know much better!!
Yep, I agree. I should have said "fear you to your face"(nm)
x
Yes they do. And the man is always portrayed with a big smile on his face and being SM
the stud ready to perform. There is no talk about any bad odor or offending anyone.
what? get in your face? that's why i started with HAHA
i suppose this is the trouble with typing you can't hear my tone. I certainly was not "in your face" and i thought my last paragraph about you never know was not derogatory or rude or anything
im sorry if it came off that way, not intended.
He is adorable...he just has a boxer face to me...
not pointy like some pits are...
Yes, this is also true: With smaller ones in the face..
they use laser nowadays, before that just electricity or a saline injection.
Had the same thing happen with face cream
I just happened to open the box before I got to the register.  Instead of Neutogena, someone had swapped with Suave.  If the packages open easily, I always check the contents.  I love/hate that store.  Last weekend I got a whole buggy full of groceries and there are only 2 lanes open out of 20.  The only others were self checkout.  I had to bag my items and place them on the floor because my buggy is full and there is no place to pull the items out of the buggy until you scan them.  I let loose on the asst. manager that was standing nearby and she said they just couldn't get any help.  I said well, maybe if you paid more, but then wait! they probably make more than I do as a MT anyway!
lol Folks, she has an excuse why she'll never face
Besides, we all recognize the ridiculousness of this type of boasting control.

I need some heavy duty face cream...
…I have some areas on my face that are extremely dry, around my hair line, around my nose and I have used several creams trying to soften these areas up. Sometimes I even flake on my eyelids like I have sunburn and I use dandruff shampoo on my eyebrows because if not they will flake- no dandruff in the hair, though. I know this sounds awful but this is getting on my last nerve. I have put petroleum jelly on my face overnight- still dry in these patches. Does anyone else have something like this and if so any remedies? Thanks
I almost went blind from it as I broke out on half of my face and they
were invading my cornea but never penetrated through. I had them actually while on the delivery table with my son!! It was frightening to say the least, I looked like a monster for about 1 week, started healing after week 2 and then had terrible pain weeks 2 and 3. I was popping 800 Motrin without even looking at the clock, the only time in my life I was a pill popper!! Anyhow still can't tweeze my eyebrow on that area without strange neuralgia, when I get tired or stressed I feel the tingling, feels like my eyelid is drooping but no residual effects other than that. If it ever happens again (this was 16 years ago so knock on wood) I will just go somewhere with a bottle and drink myself to sleep for 3 weeks.
