you just go on and make a profile - you can introduce yourself but don't have to. You can just start joining in any discussions. Some of them have made little groups where they have weigh ins and such and you can just post and say "hey can I join your goup?" They almost always will say yes - I would just look for a group that is newer so you are not feeling way behind everyone else.
