Father-Daughter and First Dance
Father-Daughter dance - Unforgettable, Nat Cole

First dance - At last, Etta James

Next dance - I've Got Friends in Low Places, Garth Brooks

Lots of Nat Cole songs are good and really meaningful. I cried when my daughter and husband danced that dance to that song. It was like letting her know she was cherished and not to be forgotten, just moving on to another time in her life.
meant to say old Italian WEDDING song....n/m

Daughter's 7th grade dance
My 13-year-old daughter is having her 7th grade dance in a few weeks, and yes, they definitely go overboard. A friend's daughter went last year and she said the girls looked like they were going to a wedding. The sad thing was she was dressed very casually (they were told it was a Hawaiian theme if they didn't want to get all dressed up. When she got there she saw all the girls dressed to the nines and she started crying and didn't want to go in for fear of what the others would say. I thought that was just awful. There is a no limo rule, but there were some that broke that rule and the school did nothing about it. My daughter is getting a new dress, but she knows it's going to be a simple dress, one that she can wear more than just this one time. We're definitely not made of money and she knows it. She may not always like it, but she knows it.
Father-Daughter
I don't know that one. Now I'm curious and have to look it up and hear it!
father/daughter
My take on this whole situation is they are playing us. They probably both knew they were going to be in the house, so I would not take it too seriously.
Father daughter has to be "I loved her first"
I cry every time I hear that song.  Singer escapes me right now.
Daughter's father, now that was a loser!
And yes I did choose him and yes we were married. Cruel to me, beat me (years ago when laws were not like they are today, police not on lady's side, felt like you were property of husband), slight support from him only through the court system, have no contact with him and she wished no contact with him either. He tried to contact her after she was grown and she said no to him. She is very close to her stepfather though, thinks the world of him.
Oh, the memories......I can pass for Italian, but I am not Italian. I got my heart sm
broken in two in Rome, NY. I was so in love with this guy up there....and when his family found out I was not Italian he had to break it off with me! I was devastated. haha

Would LOVE to take a trip up there and drive through the Adirondacks, visiting family near Lake Champlain...I would love to take hubby there and the kids. Wow! Now I'm really missing the place!!! I think I'll try it this summer! Keep in touch ladies!
We love Dance Dance Revolution
even my DH who doen't like to dance. It is a lot of fun and we get some exercise in as well. Would love to try Guitar Hero!
My father-in-law sends my daughter presents, calls her, etc. BUT

pretty much ignores my son.  My son is 16 and my daughter is 8.  They are both his grandchildren.  He will send a gift to my son on his birthday, for Christmas, etc. same as he does with my daughter.  But the presents are usually not equal in price.  Then he will call and talk to my daughter and not ask to speak to my son or even ask about my son.  He will send postcards when he is on vacation and address them to my daughter with my son's name squeezes in as an after thought out to the side.  When he is in town visiting his mother and sister, he will bring my daughter little gifts and call and ask to see her, but usually never asks to see my son.

I don't have a very friendly relationship with my FIL as I divorced his son and the divorce was not an amicable one.  However, when my son was little and I was still married, my FIL was very close with my son and treated him similarly to the way he treats my daugther now.  It seems as my son has gotten older, my FIL has simply decided he doesn't count anymore.   I think some of this has to do with my son being a teenager with a smart mouth who has been very vocal about the divorce, my ex, and his grandpa.  My son doesn't get along with his father and he took my side in the divorce.

I really, really, REALLY want to tell my FIL off, but then he'll stop having any contact with my daughter and she's too young to understand everything that's going on.  She loves him to pieces, but I'm also afraid that the same thing will happen with her as it did my son -- as she gets older and starts to figure things out and understand and become more opinionated, my FIL my just shut her out too.

It is really just a crappy thing my FIL is doing.  If I confront him about he'll just feign innocence and act like he didn't realize he was treating them differently.  So maybe my anger is just fruitless anyway.

Oh, those Italian men!
A few months ago I had some new tile installed in my great room. There was (is) a problem with it in that it is very expensive (around $16-18 for 1 tile) and spots started to appear for reason??? Contacted the installer and he contacted the place it was bought from and today the makers from Italy came to see just what was going on as they said had never had this problem before. Folks, I am telling you, I had my central air at a reasonable coolness but had to turn it down while they were here and after they left and I think am still hot under the collar, so to speak. Their good looks, their suave manners, OMG. I think I am moving there to Italy tomorrow!!
LOL, the chicken dance? That was banned from my wedding.
No way, no how. Nor the *hokey pokey* or *hands up*. LOL! I opted for *electric slide*, *shout*, *let's twist again*, *we are family*, *celebration*, *gloria*, *i will survive*, *shake your booty*, *YMCA*, *play that funky music*. We had such a blast!
Marie's dead doll dance . . .
I kept on waiting for her to "start up", you know, come alive and start really dancing. Especially when he wound her up with the key, I thought the routine would really start. It was the oddest thing.
I was thinking Italian
Very loud....very loving.
Same here Italian Family
Some fish, but no one in my family eats it so we also get a ham, my husband's family is Polish so we get perogies. Christmas Day our traditional Lasagne dinner and lots of homemade Italian cookies.
Another Italian family
I know just what you mean. Same thing with my family. My husband's family is Polish, but with ten kids in the family, I'm sure there was all kinds of yelling.
Mine was Italian too.....sm
Lasagna from scratch, home made garlic bread, and tossed salad. That's when I found out he HATES Neopolitan ice cream. LOL. We will be married 15 years this July.
Italian Christmas Eve with fish.
There aren't a lot of us, so we won't do the full-on 7 fishes, but we'll probably have some mussels, some shrimp, pasta, maybe some baked white fish.

For Christmas, probably ham, because I can serve that hot or cold and we can relax and not stress.
Aw, we loved it (except for the scary part! LOL). Great dance music! nm
s
try italian dressing powder packet that you mix yourself. sm
i marinate for about 3-4 hours in this and then grill. tastes really good. you'll have to mix it with vinegar. read packet and mix as directed and then marinate in it.
Love the Italian therapy! My dad and uncle were...
raised that way...no coddling or worrying about hurting the little one's feelings. My grandmother would have made a fortune from her therapeutic thwaps!
My husband is Italian and has tons of sex appeal!

He definitely has dark good looks in my opinion!  He's a Scorpio too, and if you believe in that sort of thing (I do to a degree), they are said to be the most passionate of all the signs.

Hmmm, if you're single you might just have to have another "problem" with your tile so they can come out again and you can set up a dinner date with one of them!

It was a full-on Italian Sunday dinner.
We always had Sunday dinner with my entire extended family. (We lived on the same street.) So Sundays were a giant food festival with my mother's, grandmom's, and aunts' kitchens going full blast right after church until all the food was brought to Grandmom's for dinner in the afternoon. The first time I cooked for DH, then-boyfriend, was just my usual Sunday routine. My mom was ill, so I did our share of the dinner, which was chicken parmigiana and probably some other things. I also made bread with my grandmother that morning. My poor husband came from a food-deprived culture. His mother can't cook, and Sunday dinners at his house were usually tuna sandwiches and tomato soup. He shared that information at the table with my family, and there was instant silence. You could have heard a pin drop. Jaws went slack and everyone stared. It's still one of my funniest memories. A second or two later, my older cousins started razzing me for bringing home the poor "Irish kid", and all the women jumped up and started heaping more food on my hubby's plate.
Stopped at the Italian market for hot capicolla and provolone..
I also picked up some bread, olives and roasted peppers. So we're having sandwiches. I'll probably make some broccoli rabe and throw some soup on, too.

We call it "dinner" in this part of the country. I'm fascinated by regional language differences.

(From the land where water is wooder.)
I have this awesome recipe for hot italian subs..yummy. we had this tonight! sm
You take 2 Pillsbury french bread refrigerated rolls and make them into one big circle by combining the two.
Combine 4 T melted butter, garlic, and parmesan cheese and brush on top of bread. Bake for 15 minutes.

After bread is nice and brown, slice the ring horizontally making one large ring-type sandwich. Use your favorite deli meats and cheeses; turkey, ham, provolone, salami, pepper jack, American, pepperoni, etc. Place these on the break and bake open-faced for another 3-4 minutes. When done melting cheese add Italian dressing to the sandwich.

This is a Pampered Chef recipe that cooks very well on their round baker. It's a hit every time. I didn't have turkey but had plenty of left over ham from Christmas so I used ham and provolone.

The Pillsbury rolls are very easy to find AND I've seen them buy 1 get 1 free a few times so I will stock up and get 6 or 8 of them for this meal. Good luck!

While that is cooking
Someone posted a recipe for baking chicken in bbq sauce and Italian dressing... SM
Does anyone have that recipe?  I am making chicken tonight and need something that I can throw together and stick in the oven while I'm working.  I haven't cooked in a couple of days and the natives are getting restless for a home cooked meal!
I love tuna with the mayo on salad with hot and sweet peppers and creamy italian dressing. YUM!
Just had to share - it's delicious.
Daughter's phone is daughter's responsibility. Valuable lesson learned.
It should be between the daughter and the friend if the friend is going to pay any of the fees. They are teenagers, not preschoolers.
Yep, there's even a song about it :)

She works hard for the money
So hard for it, honey
She works hard for the money
So you better treat her right

I met her there in the corner stand
And wonders where she is
And it's strange to her
Some people seem to have everything

9 am on the hour hand
And she's waiting for the bell
And she's looking real pretty
She's waiting for her clientele

She works hard for the money
So hard for it, honey
She works hard for the money
So you better treat her right

Twenty-eight years have come and gone
And she's seen a lot of tears
Of the ones who come in
They really seem to need her there

It's a sacrifice working day to day
For little money just tips for pay
But it's worth it all
To hear them say that they care

She works hard for the money
So hard for it, honey
She works hard for the money
So you better treat her right

Already knows, she's seen her bad times
Already knows, these are the good times
She'll never sell out, she never will
Not for a dollar bill
She works haaaaard......

Isn't there a song about that?
Something like,

"I want to check you for nits!"

Something like that. :o}

Take a break from typing, and download the song,  " We Can't Make it Here", by Larry McMurtry.

There should be a phrase in here 'bout Medical Transcription......

you mean the song(s) where the guy (sm)
loses his wife, his girlfriend, his other girlfriend, his ex-wife, his truck, his bicycle, his tractor, his dog, his cat, his lizard, his best friend, his best friend's wife, his best friend's ex-wife, his clothes AND his guitar?!? And then he gets run over by an 18-wheeler but still manages to survive and then becomes an alcoholic?!?
We must be the same age. That song SM
is truly awful and was on the radio every 10 minutes. Now it's going through my brain!!!! NO!!!!
song
If you want a lover
Ill do anything you ask me to
And if you want another kind of love
Ill wear a mask for you
If you want a partner
Take my hand
Or if you want to strike me down in anger
Here I stand
Im your man

If you want a boxer
I will step into the ring for you
And if you want a doctor
Ill examine every inch of you
If you want a driver
Climb inside
Or if you want to take me for a ride
You know you can
Im your man

Ah, the moons too bright
The chains too tight
The beast wont go to sleep
Ive been running through these promises to you
That I made and I could not keep
Ah but a man never got a woman back
Not by begging on his knees
Or Id crawl to you baby
And Id fall at your feet
And Id howl at your beauty
Like a dog in heat
And Id claw at your heart
And Id tear at your sheet
Id say please, please
Im your man

And if youve got to sleep
A moment on the road
I will steer for you
And if you want to work the street alone
Ill disappear for you
If you want a father for your child
Or only want to walk with me a while
Across the sand
Im your man

If you want a lover
Ill do anything you ask me to
And if you want another kind of love
Ill wear a mask for you
Song suggestions.
Having a party soon and need some song suggestions. The guest will be from 30 to 50 years old. Need some good dance music and slower songs to play during dinner.
christmas song
Happy Christmas by John Lennon
There is a country song.. sm
Alissa lies.  About child abuse.  I know this is a little different, but that song makes me so sad.  It is hard for your daughter I'm sure not to think about children that struggle with issues of this sort.
That last song definitely was not in his favor
It's always going to happen with those original songs they do. Obviously that was more of a Jordin song than a Blake song. The Clay-Ruben year, they each had their own song. Clay's was "This is the Night." I don't remember what Ruben's was. In any event, they didn't both have to do the same original song. With Blake and Jordin being so different, it would have been nice to have something more fair, more even, instead of Blake having to do something so totally not his style.
Ever have a song going on in your brain that you SM
can't get out? Well, I have Black Eye Peas "Lady Lumps"! I don't even like it, but when channel surfing, MTV2 runs it all the time.  Must be where I heard it.
I LOVE that song! (nm)
x
How sad. There was a video/song
regarding something just like this, sang by a very young boy. I can't recall it but it was so touching. Cat may have access to it. I bet she will post it..
what is the worst song ever?
This was on our local news this morning.

My first thought was "Help me Rhonda" by the Beach Boys. Seasons of the sun is right up there for me also.

What's your 'worst song ever'?

Help me get that song out of my head! (sm)
Help! I can't get the song "Help Me Rhonda" out of my head now!! Too funny!! That may actually have to be one of the worst songs! LOL!
worst song?
I have always hated "You light up my life". That was so popular years ago they played it constantly. To this day I want scream when I hear it.
