You need to send a wedding gift if you attend the wedding - sm
If possible you should drop it by the brides or grooms house, etc. so you don't have to take it to the wedding, and so they don't have to worry about transporting the gifts from the church or the reception. You should always send a wedding gift if you attend the wedding though.
This wedding, the wedding party will be releasing butterflies!
Apparently, you can buy live butterflies, individually packaged, that can be released after the ceremony.  The bride and groom are 65 and 68 years old, for crying out loud and this is their second marriage.  This wedding is the craziest thing I've ever seen!
Thank you! Actually, the fried chicken is chicken strips sm
breaded and fried that I make from scratch. Yes, I buy the 5 pound bag from Sam's club, fry it up and then toss is with my mom's famous teriyaki sauce cut into small, bite sized pieces. With 5 pounds cut up I can make well over 120 pieces. No big deal! Thanks for your suggestions!
Banned
Oh, that is too funny!

I was not allowed to watch SNL, and I was also banned from watching MTV.

Where this becomes totally outrageous and quite embarassing: I was not allowed to watch shows where most of the characters were black!
The poison is banned for use in the US, but it--sm
is also used as some form of treatment for cancer. They are still saying the wheat gluten may have been sprayed with this poison prior to being shipped to the US. jeez! I am sooo mad! (pet lover).
I have banned my mom from seeing my kids

Your situation is similar to mine, but my mom has gone a little further.  I have 4 children, 2 from my first marriage and 2 from my second.  My second husband has been with my older two children since they were 4 and 5 and we have been married for 11 years (so obviously he is not going anywhere).  I found out about a year ago that she had been talking to my oldest two kids for years about how horrible she thought my husband treated my older kids and how he doesn't love them as much as he loves his "own" children.  We had been having problems with my 16 year old daughter at the time and everything can now stem back to much of this.  We couldn't understand why the older two were so disrespectful of my husband after everything that he does for them.  But they were being fed information behind our backs.  Everything from he is cheating on your mom, he is abusing your mom, he is a scumbag, etc.

My mother also believes in "the other side" which is fine with me, but don't rub it in our face.  We don't shove our religion down her throat, so a little respect here.  She would frequently talk to my youngest two, who are only 7 and 8, about traveling out of body, talking to spirits, and how they were reincarnated.

This was on top of stuff like after being told not to take the kids bike riding down a road that is 55 mph (no sidewalks) with no helmets on and she did it, not just once, but 3 times.  Then when I caught her lying about it, she paid off my daughter by taking her shoe shopping!  No wonder my kid is messed up.

She was told over a year ago to knock it off or supervised visits only (she was told once previously as well).  She didn't take me seriously, so last May, after being told that I didn't "worship" her enough for mother's day and how I didn't deserve to be a mother, I cut all ties.

It has been the hardest thing that I have had to do, but to save my marrige, my sanity and my kids, I did what I had to do.  We live in a small town as well and of course mouths are wagging.  The schools are under strict order to not let her in to see them as well and know the situation.  My stepfather is dumbfounded and doesn't understand how I could do something like this.  But he is only hearing her side of things.  I told him to get her into counseling and that would be the ONLY way I would even think of mending this, but it has yet to be done.

You have to do what is right for your family and if this creates this much uproar in your family, then only you can decide how much you can take.

In case I get banned, or not, that's for the moderator
to decide, I know it was you, 'daisy', because you announced it in your upper post.
When I was a teen & my sister was 10, my parents banned
We got around that one pretty easily. At 10:00 or so, we'd each yawn, say goodnight, and go to bed. Our parents usually followed not long after. At 11:30 I'd get up, wake up my sister, and we'd sneak back out to the living room to watch it with the sound way down. My parent's bedroom was back at the other end of the house, so they couldn't hear it or see the light from the TV. We never got caught, either! Hehe
Guess what my mother banned me from watching?
The Englebert Humperdink Show. ROFL. So you know I'm really old. I can't imagine what was offensive about the show. Maybe Englebert was just too sexy for my mom.
I banned any gift giving between adults
when my husband and I got married. I will get my SIL and BIL something, but only because they have 6 small children and they always NEED something. Otherwise, Christmas is for the kids, period, plain and simple. Since I made that rule (when we had 6 small ones ourselves) his sisters refuse to come for Christmas dinner which I think is silly, but whatever. Christmas should not be all about gift giving anyway.

Daughter's 7th grade dance
My 13-year-old daughter is having her 7th grade dance in a few weeks, and yes, they definitely go overboard. A friend's daughter went last year and she said the girls looked like they were going to a wedding. The sad thing was she was dressed very casually (they were told it was a Hawaiian theme if they didn't want to get all dressed up. When she got there she saw all the girls dressed to the nines and she started crying and didn't want to go in for fear of what the others would say. I thought that was just awful. There is a no limo rule, but there were some that broke that rule and the school did nothing about it. My daughter is getting a new dress, but she knows it's going to be a simple dress, one that she can wear more than just this one time. We're definitely not made of money and she knows it. She may not always like it, but she knows it.
Father-Daughter and First Dance
Father-Daughter dance - Unforgettable, Nat Cole

First dance - At last, Etta James

Next dance - I've Got Friends in Low Places, Garth Brooks

Lots of Nat Cole songs are good and really meaningful. I cried when my daughter and husband danced that dance to that song. It was like letting her know she was cherished and not to be forgotten, just moving on to another time in her life.
They were on the View today, did exactly same dance sm
with the slap included. She wasn't outraged, she was acting/dancing.
Singles' Dance - No message
: )
Marie's dead doll dance . . .
I kept on waiting for her to "start up", you know, come alive and start really dancing. Especially when he wound her up with the key, I thought the routine would really start. It was the oddest thing.
father-daughter dance - old Italian song...

Aw, we loved it (except for the scary part! LOL). Great dance music! nm

LOL; were you at *my* wedding?
I think it took me almost a year to get them all out - but 100+ is a lot of handwritten thank yous! I know, no excuse ; )
The Wedding

Yes, you are just being petty. Obviously, you love your dad, but really ... What difference does it really make to YOUR life how much he paid for the ring, how much they spend on the wedding, etc.? Rejoice in your dad's happiness and grow up. You only go around once in this life. Let your dad enjoy his golden years. I say, "Good for him - go Daddy!"

When is the wedding and where are
you staying?
wedding
Wedding is 05/17 at Mandalay Bay but we are staying at New York, New York - this is my first trip to Vegas and I'm pretty excited. . We are staying 3 nights.
Would you go to a wedding of
a step neice that you have not heard from for over 20 years?  I am so against this, plus I have not talked to her mother or aunts for the same amount of time.  I cannot afford to get something to wear with the paychecks I have been getting, giving a gift, etc.  I think the only reason I was invited was for the gift.  I am trying to get out of it but it is my stepfather's granddaughter and he has been very good to me so I would be doing it for him only.  How could I get out of this without hurting my dad?  It is this Friday and I have done absolutely nothing to get ready for it.  Unfortunately, I already sent in the RSVP card for dinner.
Wedding
If it were me, I would just send a card with a small gift in it. This way you won't have to spend any money buying something to wear.  You are probabably right about just wanting the gift.
What about chicken; so much you can do with it.
And if you buy the large packages, it's fairly inexpensive. Also, eggs are inexpensive, quiche or omelets. Grilled cheese with tomato. Baked macaroni and cheese casserole. There is really so much.

Do try Zatarain's meals in a box, very cheap and we love them. You just add the meat or seafood. Here is a website.

And their rices are by far the best as side dishes, much better than Rice a Roni or Uncle Ben's I think. Cooks up fluffy, not sticky and a large amount.

Here's one of my chicken recipes:

Easy parmesan chicken

Dip chicken breast in melted butter/garlic mix (1 stick butter and 1/2 tsp minced garlic)

Coat with breadcrumb mix (I used flavored/seasoned with about 1/4 cup of grated parmesan cheese and pinch of garlic powder added).

Place in pan. Pour the remaining butter on top, or not. I do! :)

Bake in oven at 325 for around 30 minutes.

Yum.
Chicken leg
We played this at a friend's for Thanksgiving. It was fun. There may be a limit on how many people, I am not sure. You take regular dominos. Each draw 7. Before you give out the tiles put the highest domino that is the double number or the lowest number like 1 dot 1 dot. Then, everyone takes turns around the table and puts 1 tile only to match one of the ends. In this case it would be 1 dot of course. If someone has a double number again they put that tile diagonal next to the tile they are matching sticking out like a leg. Then the group has to keep going to match that other side to make the other leg. If you can't match it you keep drawing from bone yard (again one each time then onto the next person). All other times than doubles you keep matching the dots and if after you draw you don't have it next person goes. You do this until a person has only 1 tile left, they say 1. And when the first person has all tiles gone, the game is over and the people add up their dots and that is their high score. I got the highest score ever, which meant I was the biggest loser ever LOL. There are many strategies like cards, but mostly try to get rid of the high number dots first. The difference between this and dominos is the chicken leg part which is tough, and of course the fact you only draw 1 tile instead of keeping going and each person only puts 1 tile then the next person goes. You'd be surprised how the time flies when you play this. BTW: We were all from 46 to 56 in age range there. Hope that if anyone plays this the time flies by as much as it did for me. Happy Holidays!
Raw chicken??
I wouldn't give raw chicken to a dog for the same reasons I wouldn't give it to a person. Dogs can get salmonella poisoning, too.

& ditto what the poster below says about chicken bones. Except neck bones.

I buy chicken thighs once in awhile & boil it until it falls off the bones & add some broth to my dogs' food every day. They eat the *cooked* meat & skin as well, but I throw away the bones.

Andy is a picky eater. It took awhile to find a food he liked. WorriedMom (OP) may just have to keep experimenting.
Chicken
Crustless Chicken Pot Pie Skillet.

Boneless chicken breasts cut in to 1-inch pieces.

Chicken boullion (cubes or powder)

1 can sliced mushrooms, drained.

Onion (to taste) diced small.

1 can Cream of Mushroom soup

1 can diced peas and carrots.

Egg noodles, cooked and drained.

Saute chicken, mushrooms, and onion with chicken boullion and low fat spread chicken is cooked through and onions are tender.  Deglaze pan with a little milk (basically use milk to loosen any browned bits stuck to pan).  Add Cream of mushroom soup, peas and carrots, and egg noodles. Season to taste with salt, pepper, garlic, etc.  Simmer until heated through and serve.

Yes - the wedding was on TV, he married
he did marry the air-head, he called her princess.
Wedding Ring ?

Do you have more than one? I have a wedding and engagment ring that DH gave me that I used to wear all the time, along with a diamond band my mom gave me years ago. Last summer my mom gave me her engagment ring that she really never wears anymore. Since then, I haven't been wearing the engagment ring DH gave me, I wear the plain gold band I got married in, along with my mom's two rings that she gave me.

DH says he doesn't mind as long as I wear the wedding band that we got married in. I guess it's a superstition thing with him. He understands that I miss my parents (especially my mom), since they live in Florida and we are in New York.

How do your SO's feel about stuff like this? Do they even have an opinion about what rings you wear or don't wear?

She was a wedding present
From my husband to me. When we brought her home she weighed just 1.5 pounds. She was so scrawny. We almost lost her twice and boy did she cost us a fortune, but it was well worth it. We found out she had asthma when she was about two and when I found her she was turning blue. She was on steroids for a long time. She weighed 20 pounds, quite a change from when we first got her. Then she ate fake pine needles from our Christmas tree one year and had to have emergency surgery to get this huge wad of needles out of her intestine. She was the sweetest cat and wouldn't hurt anything or anyone. She used to sleep on my head (on my pilow) which drove my husband nuts. LOL. She purred like a race car. I'll miss that definitely. I still have a, what I call, a wacky 10 year old black cat at home. I think he knows she's gone. Thank you so much.
I had a no child wedding except for immediate - sm
family; so to hopefully appease the very few that could not bring their kids (3 couples) I just had my 2 nephews carry my dress train. We had a swim party reception and I did not want to have to worry about parents getting drunk or inattentive and having a child drown. I knew my SILs would watch their kids as they are both somewhat overprotective, plus they were used to doing this when all the family was over anyways. But the post below is good about the gifts, or maybe directing people to the guest registry; handing out the "favors" or whatever you may have there for the guests.
Wedding shower...
My niece is getting married in August and is having a shower in July.  Long story short, they live together, have been for a looonnnggg time now.  On the invite, it says "Money preferred" with a bunch of $$$ around it.  They're calling it a "greenback shower"...Is it just me, or is this totally disgusting and greedy? Makes me not wanna go.  Also, I am not even sure how much to give.  We never see them, only at family functions (DH's family.....)...anyway, is it just me that feels this way?
wedding shower
I agree. I think they have a lot of nerve expecting guests to "finance" their life together. Are they getting married after so long just to make some bucks? Or are you supposed to help offset the cost of this wedding? Are they registered? I'd give her a gift (if that's what you'd prefer). If you feel you have to give money, I'd probably stay in the $25.00 range or whatever you feel comfortable giving. Of course, you could always make an excuse and not go. After all, they'll probably want money as a wedding gift also!
Wedding question. SM

Okay, I'm confused as far as the gift process.  I am invited to the bridal shower and the wedding and reception.  My question is this, do I get two separate gifts - one for the bride for the bridal shower and one for the happy couple for the wedding?  This is an older couple (in their 50s) and this is the second marriage for both.

If so, I need some nifty ideas for a bridal shower gift.  Nothing naughty like lingerie or sex toys (which would be hilarious) because the bride is very, VERY refined and would not find any kind of humor in it at all.  Plus the bridal shower will probably be elegant and tasteful and will make Emily Post proud.  So I guess I should wear a bra and show up with a tasteful gift.

Thanks!

Another wedding question... SM

I posted a question a few weeks back about a wedding I'm about to attend and whether I needed to give a gift at the bridal shower and the wedding...

Anyway, the wedding is this Saturday.  I've been asked to be in charge of the guest book, whatever that means.  The dress I bought for the wedding is red.  Yesterday, I'm told that the bride isn't happy with that and that her wedding colors are periwinkle and some sort of pastel green.

Now, I'm very irritated.  I'm told that I'm not part of the wedding party, but they just want me to make sure everyone signs the book.  No one told me that I need to try and match the wedding colors and now five days before the wedding, I'm told the bride doesn't like that I have a red dress!!??

I came from out of town for this thing so this dress is the only dress I brought with me!  I'm working from my hotel room so we could be here this whole week because my daughter is the flower girl and they needed to do a fitting for her and she had to be here for the rehearsal.  Now they are suggesting I buy a new dress?

My response to the bride was if she doesn't like my dress, she can buy me a new one.  Now her daughters are telling me I'm being difficult and ruining their mothers special moment.  The groom does everything the bride tells him too, so he's not on my side even though he's my family.  I have half a mind to get in my car and drive back to Missouri with my daughter and tell them all to take a flying leap!

Am I being unreasonable here?

WOW. Yes what a crazy wedding
Glad you have been demoted to program passer outer. LOL. Butterflies and 65 and 68 years old. CRAZY. Keep us posted about he reception. I am sure that should be a hoot too.

Enjoy yourself. It is almost over. LOL.

BTW - I am going to a wedding Sept 1st. They are going to have a pig roast. How about that?? I am from NJ and never been to a wedding like that before. Should be very exciting. Can't wait.
Going to an outdoor wedding on Sat.
where they are having a pig roast. Never heard of such a thing at a wedding, so should be interesting. Sunday going to my sister-in-law's summer home, as she calls it, (her trailer at a campsite). She loves it there and then laboring on Labor Day. Have to work. Enjoy the unofficial end of Summer.
Wedding poem? sm
DH and I are renewing our vows for our 20th anniversary.  At first we didn't think this was going to happen but just found out it is a go and it is happening Wednesday.  Would like for our daughter to read a poem.  It will just be DH, DS, DD, myself, the preacher, and the Lord.  Any suggestions.  Am also posting on Christianity board for additional suggestions for DS.  Thanks for any help!
What about Betsy's Wedding???

It is kind of an older movie with Molly Ringwold when she was very young and Alan Alda.  This has got to be about the funniest movie I have seen.  Also get Big Trouble with Peter Falk and Beverly De'Angelo,  Robert Stack and others.  This and In-Laws are about the funniest movies I have ever seen.  Anyway we all get down in the dumps at times.  I kind of dread the holidays sometimes because my sister's husband is so very rude and they are all very materialistic -- all they care about is money -- it is kind of hard to be around people like that.  His mother just recently died and I don't think he shed one tear or even cared.  It was just business as usual.  Kind of shallow person.  Oh well.  Takes all kinds to make the world they say.  So you just cheer up girl.  Hope you feel better really soon.

Cooking chicken
I wound be reluctant to cook chicken on an indoor grill.  Pounding the chicken will help, but you really need to be careful about cross contamination.  Until you get a   feel for it, I would cook it on the grill to mark it, but finish it in the oven.  I also would marinate your chicken.  I love Soy Vey teriyaki marinade.  There are some excellent crock pot recipies that incorporate chicken breast.  I got a panni sandwich maker and those are excellent and easy.  Start off slowly, look at recipies and do what tastes good.  Eating out is definately not a habit you want to get your kids into.  Just really be careful with raw chicken.  When I pound chicken I use a plastic grocery bag.  I put the chicken in there and then pound it.  It saves on cleanup of splattered chicken and is more sanitary.  All Recipies is a great site, as well as BHG.com.  Good luck and have fun.
Chicken and biscuits?
When I bake a whole chicken at the beginning of the week, later in the week I cut up the leftovers into a casserole dish with a can of cream of potato soup, cream of celery soup and peas and carrots.  Top with Pillsbury biscuits.  If you want the complete recipe, feel free to e-mail me.
