St. Amy....what can I say...all hail St. Amy...
a truly compassionate woman who has done the utmost to feel the pain of others and put herself in their shoes. Honey, money isn't everything, you too may be faced with a hardship one day, no matter how much you profess to working so hard. Since most of what people say on the internet is a lie, your story is most likely strongly embellished.
Hmm, then I'm riding under the radar!
Never been called. Yeah! Something tells me I'll be coming back here to say *guess what!* soon though....been too lucky.
She'll continue riding the bus unless she gets....sm
a job that starts as soon as school is out.

I started driving to school the day I got my driver's license, but that was because I was working 20 hours a week learning transcription in a doctors office, working from 3:30-7:30 p.m. With that, being in band and drama my parents were literally counting down the days until I could drive so they wouldn't have to tote me around. My brother and sister weren't involved in extra activities and their after school jobs rarely were scheduled at times for them to drive to school, so they had to ride the bus.

There's no way I'd give a child a brand new car for their driver's license/birthday gift. Here in the Atlanta area there have been a lot of wrecks with teens whose daddy gave them a brand new Mercedes or BMW for their 16th birthday and to "thank" their dad they wrecked it and either killed or nearly killed another person. Even if we were rich we wouldn't just buy a car for a child. Our oldest gets a car only because it was her moms, but even then she won't have 100% free reign over it. She also doesn't have a cell phone and will not be allowed to get one unless she gets a job to pay for it.
When gas was over $4/gall I started riding the bus. sm
Still to..Hate it but it saves on gas and repairs. My DH is home all day but have finally convinced him to wear sweatshirts etc. We now keep our heat at 65. We turn it up on Saturday night when it is bath night. LOL. We have unplugged everything we can think of, but have not noticed much savings yet as we have a pet turtle that needs heat and filtration.

We also change our furnace filters religiously every month. Cuts down on wear and tear on the furnace.

We stock up on canned goods etc. when the local store has it's store brand sales going.

Our local dollar store is our new best friend. You can get the same brand name stuff, but much cheaper. And as far as bleach etc goes, sometimes the store brand works just as well.

I use Angel Food Ministries. It is much easier spending $30 than $150+ for food. They are great and it is restaurant quality food.

We also got on the budget plan with our gas company. I hate paying the outrageous prices in July, but it sure is worth it in January.

Yikes-my neighbor riding a
motorcycle happens to be my son....
Me, again another thing 1 night riding down the road
going very fast saw these huge eyes - a cow in the middle of the road, good thing I did not hit her.
I have been known to have a beer or two
on the weekends when working.
Beer can chicken

Has anyoe ever made this on the grill?  How did it turn out, says to cook over one side and have the other side lit, Did you use and special rub on it?

Beer Can chicken

Hi, Just bought a beer can chicken roaster at Big Lots for $3 and you season the chicken and then put over the beer can and place on roaster  -- for charcoal grills you use indirect cooking method which is arrange the coals away from the food so that juices from food do not reach the coals.  Place a foil drip pan in the middle of the fire box and mound the coals around the pan, making sure the pan is large enough to cover the surface below the food.

For gas or electric follow directions for indirect cooking for units with 2 or more burners, one burner should be turned off after preheating and food should be placed over the unlit or off burner.  For units with 1 burner, set burner to lowest available setting cooking times range between 1-2 hours depending on heat source and size of chicken  use a meat thermometer to check for doneness.

Hope this helps

Which kind of beer prowls around? ;o>
It's not even Friday and you have beer on the brain.

and 8 glasses of water.
NY Storm
You're lucky. We have had a couple of feet here, and up in Oswego, I'm sure you've heard 10 feet of snow. Yuck! Be safe tomorrow. Hopefully you won't have to leave the house for anything.
until I was taken out by a storm
I thought only briefly about hurricanes, tornados, etc in  other parts of the country.  After being without power in below freezing temperatures for over a week after an ice storm that destroyed my trees and messed up my house, I have a new empathy for storm victims.  The total lack of control made me realize how much we take for granted.  Glad you are okay!
Ice Storm

So I am new to being in a state with cold weather and horrible snow storms.  When I say new, I have been here about 10 years but we have only had 1 major ice storm that knocked out power for days.  We stayed with my in-laws and it was no big deal.  They have generators.  Well, now the in-laws already have a family of 5 staying with them so the house is a bit crowded.  We are a family of 3.5 ourselves so I would like to avoid that if at all possible.  We have a gas stove and would still be able to cook.  Also have a gas water heater but our water runs on a well with a pump so that is limited along with toilet use.  We have gas central heat but I'm assuming with no electricity the air won't get pushed through the house?

My question is - do any of you have great ideas for how to stay warm with no electricity other than the obvious of snuggling in bed.

Are you saying you want the unruly ones, the ones who fight and fuss, have the beer
parties, conflicts all the time, loud, obxious music? All the neighbors around here are very quiet and decent ones. I think they are lovely- none of that low class acting out. I can tell from the posts that a lot of people apparently must like all that drama plus all the friction coming with it. To each their own.
whups, yep - right beach, wrong beer. NM

snow storm
It's headed our way tonight in Upstate NY.  We're suppose to get over a foot.  Tomorrow it is suppose to be snowing all day long.  It'll be one of those days when I REALLY appreciate working from home.
Upstate NY Storm
Where in Upstate NY do you live? I live just outside of Syracuse and we've been buried in snow lately. But I did drive to NYC this weekend, and once I hit Cortland there was no snow anywhere. Everyone be safe.
When we had a major ice storm last
February, schools were let out early (10 a.m.) and the info was posted on a crawl at the bottom of the TV and on the radio. No parents were called.
I do believe it is the same storm system s/m

Not sure when it turns to ice though.  If I remember from the radar last night, looked like southwest to northwest Ohio is going to get hit with this too.  Not sure about Sunday's storm yet.  I tried to pull up the radar, but it isn't showing for tomorrow yet.

My daughter is supposed to be driving up from Dayton tomorrow and going back on Sunday, but I warned her not to.  She just might have to stay!

Gas Station during a storm....
Had just left one date at Starbucks, stopped to get gas, cashier and I instantly fell in lust.

Two years and going strong...

When you least expect 'it,' I guess 'it' decides to drop in your lap, lol!!!
We are having a severe thunder storm right now
and I am working like crazy becuse my dog won't get off my feet so she is working the peddle for me.  I just love my furry critters!
Always shut down during a thunder storm - sm
I had a "great surge protector," i.e., an expensive one, that was supposed to protect against a lightening strike. Guess what? Lightening struck my modem anyway! I was down several days while I waited for a new modem to be installed. Not too happy with my protector and will never trust again.

This town has been through so much. The same storm that hit the town of Enterprise sm

the high school where 15+ kids died when a tornado hit their school, destroyed this hospital in Americus, GA.  The town was devastated. Please see this local news link to help them win an MRI machine. Thanks everyone!!
