Has anyone ever had this procedure done for stress incontinence or know someone who has? I am contemplating this surgery and would like feedback on recovery period and effectiveness.....

I had the TVT sling procedure about 4 years ago, and it was absolutely the best thing. I was incontinent with laughing, sneezing, coughing...my last straw was when I had food poisoning and everytime I was sick, my bladder would just empty, no control whatsoever. I was only 41, too. I had the procedure done, and I would say that after about 1-1/2 months, I felt back to normal with not even a twinge of discomfort. I was still a bit uncomfortable and fatigued after a month, but took iron on a regular basis (I had about 500 cc blood loss) and it helped. They told me because of my age I was more suseptible to bleeding with the surgery. My hematocrit was on the low side, but they watched me, and it crept back up. I didn't need a transfusion. Also, it was a day surgery, and I just had a block and was awake the whole time. I recommend you do it, based on my experience. It's certainly made my quality of life much better.
I am out of the closet now, just don't have the hair to sling around anymore!!
