my Mom

I have been having a very difficult time lately. My Mom has been sick for the past 3 weeks with an enlarged spleen. It has taken this long just for her to get the workup done, and tomorrow she finds out more from her doctor. I am very concerned as there are many things that can cause this. I am also worried because she always has a year-round dark tan which in my opinion can't be good for her. I live about 7 hours from her. I just feel completely helpless being so far away. On top of this, she cares for my 8-year-old niece. My children and I sent her a little package of makeup and pictures to try to cheer her up.

She has been asking me what I think it could be. I have looked up information about splenomegaly for her online. I didn't want to mention that skin cancer is one possible cause, but today I thought maybe I should so she could mention it to her doctor (in case he doesn't mention doing a workup for it). Now I almost feel guilty because I know I made her worried and probably upset. I called and left a message after that and tried to explain why I mentioned it because I just want to make sure they do every possible test.

I am just so afraid for her, and I feel completely helpless being here and not able to go be with her now.
