smell of giblets cooking

Posted By: marilyn on 2007-11-20
In Reply to: Well first you'd have had to get - Anon

My husband got a tip from Food Network this week.  Don't cook the liver with the rest of the giblets.  The liver is what gives off the nasty odor and makes the broth bitter.  Happy Thanksgiving!

Giblets sm
I have to say the giblets were inside in a plastic bag, along with the neck, which I believe are edible, but the plastic makes it kind of a "no-no". I do hear many stories of ruined turkeys without the giblets being removed, so I guess it's that darned bag! We usually get up in the middle of the night and put the turkey in, so I guess the bag sure would melt all over the place. I never do that nasty deed, that's my husband's job to "get in there" and then wash the bird out and salt it. I know he used to microwave the giblets for the dog as his special treat on turkey day, so I guess they are kind of tasty. I use gravy in a jar myself, shhh, don't tell.
It's still edible if you leave the giblets in
as long as they weren't in a plastic bag that melted all over the inside of the bird. Why do people think it's not OK? We cook the giblets to make giblet gravy, so what's the difference?

most stuffing has some kind of chicken giblets or something..
gross gross gross gross
I can smell it now

Food= Prune cake (tastes like a chocolate chip cake with pecans in it)  My grandmother always made it for me I now make it for my kids and friends but it is now called ChocoChip cake.

Present=  Still to this day I LOVE the coupons my daughter makes.  Free baby sitter.   Run your bath.  Cook Supper. Clean the Kitchen.  and my favorite my reusable unlimited hug coupon good for the next year. These presents are the ones that make me cry and she always seems to come up with a new coupon that has a special meaning for me.

Christmas isn't all about the money to everyone.  If you dont like the way things are then start by changing them at home and you'd be surprised how far reaching those changes can be.  MERRY CHRISTMAS.

I can smell those now but
which ones, if any, would I be able to have inside my home? Payday today and gonna head out later to get something sweet.
Tried it! Now they smell like cat poo.
Still, it is in improvement.

< just being silly >
Another way to get the smell out s/m

is using vinegar.  My cats no longer have accidents in the house, but when they did, this worked wonders!  I have one of those Bissell green machines and mix it with water.  I have to make sure the litter box is cleaned daily and I also have 2 boxes.  They aren't that picky on the type of litter that I get, so I'm lucky on that part.

I would definitely get some cat toys, maybe her own blanket rubbed with catnip to start with and hopefully she will start to give some respect.  Maybe she wants her own bed? LOL

My son has a cat that will allow no one but him to touch her (except if she is hungry of course).  She will come up and act nice, but when you pet her, she bites.  We have all just learned not to mess with her as we cannot get rid of her as it would greatly upset my son.

If she is still doing it, go to the vet.  The other poster is right about possible urinary tract infection, etc.

Actually, it really does not smell much at all. s/m

I also like to get the "mentholated" kind -- it makes my skin tingly!!  And don't forget, the generic brands are much cheaper!!

You can use other primers that don't smell quite sm
as bad as Kilz. I only use Kilz in the summer when I can open the windows. It can make you pass out without good ventilation. Otherwise, I use a latex primer which works just as well although I sometimes have to use 2 coats. I agree, though, the oil-based Kilz is the best.
I had one and even descented, they smell.

Ferrets smell really bad!

You are so welcome!! I was also worried about the smell,
especially since I noticed it was also for horse manes, but it sure did help our hair. So glad it helped your little one!! :)
If you are not a smoker you will be able to smell - sm
it on him a mile away. Obviously if you smoke you won't be able to smell it, and also the odds are he will smoke too (that is if you do). If you don't smoke it is possible he is telling the truth, as for punishment for having them the obvious answer is to withhold something he loves for a couple of weeks, whether it is TV, or afterschool activities, or video games, or driving if he has a learner's permit. Good luck.
they smell chemical changes...
my friend had kept a retreiver that wandered up and when my friend got pregnant, Fancy would not part from her side until after the baby was born. My neighbor had trouble with her son and his "friends". Somehow, the bull got loose and was kept for 2 to 3 days in the front yard (we're in the country) until the fence was mended. That is when she found out he made a good watchdog; he would not let any of the "potheads" in. Anybody doing drugs was greeted with earflapping and then a charge!
vaginal smell
Has anyone had any bad smell after using K-Y jelly even after taking a shower after four hours, I mean a foul smell?
smell test
I can tell when the teacher has hugged my kid because she smells like the perfume the teacher wears.

A school day is long. Better the teacher is kind to your child than mean (and there are both kinds of teachers.)
Oh, I can just smell the aroma now
I have read this and thanks so much. I have been using the drip and fussing at hubs who is usually the one to "upgrade" things around the house. I told about having the Cuban coffee the other day and yummy! I thank you for this and will print off so I can contain the information you sent. Thanks!
At least you are smooth and smell nice. LOL.

Cats are very sensitive to gas smell
It wouldn't hurt to have it checked. They always have stories on the news of how animals(cats especially) save people from gas leaks when the people had no idea there was one.
Hold on, now - not all old folks have that smell
I have an aunt who is 89 and she always smells so good, likes her really nice perfume and never a stinky. She is in 80 group. I am quickly getting to that ole folks age but I also love smelling nice although I don’t do the perfume as I love those nice shower gels.
Loss of smell and taste
Thank you so much for responding.  It is bothering me somewhat as when I mentioned this to my primary care doctor he didn't seem to think it was something to be concerned with, or at least that was my impression.  I will be seeing the ENT doc on Friday and hopefully I can get some answers.  I guess I will have to get used to eating food and not being able to enjoy the flavor.  I also read on line about smells, spoiled foods, gas fumes, etc.  Thanks again and I am glad you are doing well otherwise.
Loss of taste and smell (SM)
Hello all - I was wondering if anyone on this board has ever lost their sense of taste and smell due to an upper respiratory infection and/or chronic sinusitis.  This happened to me about 3 months ago and I assumed I would regain my sense of taste and smell but I haven't yet.  Any suggestions as to treatment would be greatly appreciated.  BTW I will be visiting an ENT specialist soon.  TIA
JJ says stop and smell the roses...sm
and congrats to his "cousin" for the win!
I love anything with the smell of Vanilla
I don't wear much perfume, but I love Vanilla Fields.
the urine doesn't have a smell
I don't know she has urinated until...ugh...I "feel" it when I lay down
Is there a way to get smoker's smell out of a house?
I found this amazing place to live across from the beach (the only reason I moved to where I moved) that is affordable and totally decent. Two male roommates that are totally awesome, i have already been welcomed into their family (they are cousins). The problem is they have smoked inside the condo... I asked them about it and they said they had no problem smoking outside. Two questions: Is it wrong to ask them to? and second, is there even a point if I cannot get that smell to ever go away? I REALLY am trying to look into any possibility because ive been looking for months for something EXACTLY like this, i dont think it comes available often...

Thank you for any suggestions
Then I smell something fishy here, why would the g'mother
try to take bankruptcy with such an income like that? I would be willing to say someone is trying to scam some government agency such as welfare or the like.
Love the smell of outside drying sm
Nothing better than sheets off the line, however, most newer people in the neighborhood frown on clotheslines so we go along to get along. If you live in a plat of newer homes this may be in your purchase and sales agreement - no clothes lines, etc. I sometimes will hang out seasonal items just for the day on my deck and get remarks like, "Haven't you heard of a dryer?" I really miss the smell of clean, air-drying but use the dryer with dryer sheets - not the same. Just the feel of fresh air sheets makes me sleepy, I miss that smell, nothing like it. Yes, the towels are a little rough on the line but you can use a soap with softener built in. Where I go to the beach in the summer, everyone hangs out their wash and it dries in an hour. Guess I'm old fashioned. Have to go by the current rules, some don't know what they're missing. We have a leash law so never let pets out loose, one got away one day and got hit by a car, so we are extra careful not to let our dog near the front door as you never know. Rules, rules, but things are not the same - the world is getting more and more crowded so we have to go with the flow. In the newer developments they are not even making sidewalks, so there's no place to walk, geez!
oh yea don't forget the smegma smell
HAHAHAHA
Well I guess that would explain the rotten egg smell!
LOL, we always got a laugh about the fact it smelled like rotten eggs. A Jersey girl here too. Cute story though.
...another test, but again, I forget what the smell is supposed

Tried that - Montana cool air and sunshine for all day but I can still smell it. Maybe I'm more
sensitive to it than other people?
Odo Ban - I highly suggest it. The smell is terrific. sm
especially if you have animals, etc. My friend gave me hers as she bought it from Sam's Club and I love it. You get a gallon jug and then a sprayer. It's an all-in-cleaning. She even puts it in her towels when washing. I just am very pleased with the smell. Just a little suggestion if you are having guests this holiday season!
Me too..I love the smell...remember the "pearl" it used to have in it? (sm)
a looong time ago? but then I also remember a few of the sodas that had cork under the bottlecap. And I'm only 40. Things sure have changed a lot!
Expensive, but love smell of my little grandson.

I love the smell of a gravel road...sm
I think foreigners/men with accents are sexy....

I was valedictorian and voted most likely to succeed...now I'm a SAHM who does transcription to supplement our income. I wouldn't trade a single moment with my kids for the most successful position in the world...

My favorite guilty pleasure is watching stupid movies with hot guys (like Spring Break Shark Attack).
My DH does all the cooking too! - sm
though we are not the most economical in the food buying, but he can do pretty amazing things with a chicken and is handy around the house besides. Great with electronics (works on electron microscopes for a living), any handyman-type chores, --granted can be a little lazy sometimes but so can I. We both do various home projects and have compliment each other in our abilities. I just hope the kids are as mechanically inclined as we are.

My husband is going bear hunting next weekend - how the heck do you cook bear???  (do you even cook bear or do you just make a rug or something)??
Cooking HELP!!
We went to a fundraiser dinner over the weekend that served dressing with cranberries in it.  My husband couldn't stop talking about it the rest of the weekend.  Does anyone have a recipe for this???
I want to know what she is cooking
too. Now I am so hungry. Shallots are yummy, especially. Shallots, mushrooms, butter and olive oil, some black pepper! I need a fork!
Me and my cooking
I have a candy thermometer that has both celsius and fahrenheit. I was making divinity and the recipie said to bring the syrup up to 260 dgrees fahhrenheit. I was looking at the wrong side of the thermometer, and went to 260 degrees Celsius!! Needless to say, the pan was ruined. I compounded the problem by setting the pan out in the hallway on the carpet because it was smoking, and it burned a hole right through the carpet!
No cooking!
Use whatever fruit you would like. Strawberries, cantelope, pineapple, grapes all work well. I have seen them done with gouda cheese as well. Just cut them up and stack them on skewers. Kids seem to like them, just have to watch if anyone gets the idea for a sword or poker. I would trim the pointy ends of the kabobs if kids will be around. Stand them upright in a tall vase or lay them flat on a platter. Can get or make a cream cheese or yogurt dip for them too which is nice. Also seen them with marshmellows for a sweet addition but I prefer them plain.

Homemade vegetable soup and cornbread
I did not ask him to do the cooking-
he knows that I don’t and he likes his health anyway. Works for us. I work and pay my share of bills so I think tit for TAT here.
Oh, c'mon now....abstinence? Wake up and smell the coffee. :)

Anyone know how to get cigarette smoke smell out of books? I bought several
reference books and they just stink.  Any ideas?
Hand them a lemon to smell and taste and put sunlight on them

Cooking chicken
I wound be reluctant to cook chicken on an indoor grill.  Pounding the chicken will help, but you really need to be careful about cross contamination.  Until you get a   feel for it, I would cook it on the grill to mark it, but finish it in the oven.  I also would marinate your chicken.  I love Soy Vey teriyaki marinade.  There are some excellent crock pot recipies that incorporate chicken breast.  I got a panni sandwich maker and those are excellent and easy.  Start off slowly, look at recipies and do what tastes good.  Eating out is definately not a habit you want to get your kids into.  Just really be careful with raw chicken.  When I pound chicken I use a plastic grocery bag.  I put the chicken in there and then pound it.  It saves on cleanup of splattered chicken and is more sanitary.  All Recipies is a great site, as well as BHG.com.  Good luck and have fun.
Well I'm sure she'd do the cooking if she felt up to it.
We can't decide for others when they are going to throw a party, though she seems to be thrusting one on you!

cooking/recipes
Is there a cooking or recipes board available - just curious.
I don't know either but the southern cooking
is the only thing I could think of ...like Louisiana....the bayou....that kind of south??? Have NO IDEA!
