Things to make a bike more fun - sm
I'm a big believer in mountain bikes. Not only are they great for riding on regular pavement, but you also have the freedom to go on dirt roads and trails. I don't know why, but riding uphill on pavement seems like a chore to me, but on a trail, it's an adventure.

You can probably get the bike shop to replace the standard seat with a wider one... lots of people do that. The ones with gel padding are GREAT... and will make it possible to ride more miles before your posterior gets tired or sore.

The other thing I do when I buy a bike (especialy a mountain bike) is have the shop remove the toe-clip-things fom the pedals, and just put on standard pedals. I don't like the feeling of my feet being attached to the pedals, and want to be able to put my feet on the ground at a moment's notice. (Or, jump off! Haha...)

If you get a bike with lots of gears, such as a 21-speed, then going up hills will be much easier, since you can put it into a very low gear. If you have the money, a lighter frame adds to the ease of climbing hills (or, just carrying the bike, or loading it into a car or truck.)

If you ride lots of bumpy or dirt roads, "Rock-Shox" on the front wheel can help ease neck, wrist or shoulder pain. I don't have them on my current bike, and boy do I feel it when I hit a bump. But I can't afford them right now.

Also, especially with a moutain bike, I believe in getting the tires puncture-proofed. (Or more puncture-RESISTANT, I should say.) Nothing worse then getting far from home, running over a sticker-weed, and then having to walk home pushing the bike. They make interior tire liners called "Mr. Tuffies" that can be put inside the tire to help resist flats. Finally, invest in a good bicycle lock, so that if you ride it to the market, or leave it anywhere, someone else won't come along and steal your fun!

It is attitudes like yours that make things nauseating! sm
I will never understand why there is no room for Santa and religion during the holidays!! Santa brings about all the innocence for children. I grew up in a very catholic family and in no way did believing in santa interfere with the religous meaning of the holiday. Santa is fun and innocent for a child to believe in. The world is bad enough to grow up in these days...why would anyone not want to believe in santa?? That is what is nauseating. Just my opinion.
Why does it make a man feminized if he enjoys things

that smell good. My son (not quite 26 years old) is not at all feminized (lives with his girlfriend) and enjoys candles. He likes nice smells.

P.S. I don't approve of the fact that he and his girlfriend live together, but that's another story.

Make him repay every mean thing he does to his brother with 3 nice things sm
Take away a privelege he really enjoys and make him spend that time doing three nice things for his brother - through gritted teeth - every time he does something mean. For example - you hit your brother, you clean his room, let him use your favorite toy and clean his plate for him after dinner tonight. If he responds in anger during that timeframe and hits again, he starts all over again, three nice things. I had to do this with my son with negative things he would say. It worked well. Now when he starts to slip up we start the three nice things again and he remembers quickly.
'scuse...keep calls short as I feel I must do these things in order to make money. No babies
s
Maybe try this approach...
Use it with him! Tell him to meet you in the bedroom in 5 minutes. Warm up with the toy and then let him join in. If you can prove it is no threat at all to him he may be more accepting and encourage you to use it? Good luck! :-)
Don't lie..different approach

So what if you die tomorrow?  Your 6-year-old will not believe anyone again.

What are you going to tell him when grandparents pass on?  Might try a Christian book store and see what they have to explain death, heaven to a child.

I like POSITIVE ideas.  For instance suicide. I ask the young people "aren't we all God's children?  Doesn't God love all his children?  You are not supposed to rush into God's presence but HE knows when you are coming and he loves everybody!

If you happen to fall over dead tomorrow, who have you asked to take care of your son?  This could give your son reassurance that he will not be alone.

I lost my son on his 22nd birthday to leukemia. I cannot think of anything else but that I WILL see him in heaven.  My 16-year-old surprised me when he said that my son will spend his birthday in heaven!

The "free" advice that I want to give you is keep it up beat, positive, loving (not to the extent that suicide is an option), good thoughts. You don't have to accept every idea a church gives you either.  Form your own good opinions and ideas!  Pass them on to your son!

Good Luck!

A different approach
This is what I would do and why.

First I can see all the posters points of view and if I was my mother I would probably be mad and argue. However, I have learned over time that arguments like this sometime (and I say sometimes) are not worth it. My mom and her husband would fight and fight and fight just so one could say they won. Sometimes something like this is best to just let go (wears much easier on the nerves). However, with that if it was me I would sit down with my husband and explain to him that I was upset because I didn't realize he was going to keep $10 to put money in his car, and thought we were sharing the costs to fill up the car we were in. Then I'd be "more of a man than he is" and give him a kiss and a hug. I would also then suggest maybe an alternative way of getting gas and that would be to fill both cars up whenever they get to 1/4 tank and go half & half on whatever the cost. My dad told me you get more gas for your money if you fill it up rather than little amounts here and there.

So, that is what I would do.
LOL, that's one approach I haven't tried yet, but I like it.nm
x
I would not approach her family
I think you would be better off going through the school. Maybe the family is odd! You don't need to create problems with the parents.

I, for sure, would speak to someone at the school though.
If U do apply for job, approach that facility and U
x
Your approach works wonderfully in theory...
but in reality, this rarely works. I have been an RN for 13 years now, doing MT on the side. I do not look at this from a one-sided MT point of view, but rather from a mother's point of view.

As a nurse, you must know that even when you try to educate your patients as kindly and nonconfrontationally as possible, when you start to point out to them things they may be doing wrong (such as not taking meds consistently or correctly, continuing to smoke when they have emphysema or COPD, eat tons of salt on a low-salt diet, etc.), IMMEDIATELY a wall goes up and the mentality is "How dare you try to educate me on MY life and point out my shortcomings".

Public health nursing is even trickier. From experience, even being as kind and non judgmental as you can possibly be, 99% of the time, this mother does not want to be aware that other people know about her problem. Most of the time, they think "OK, if I just ignore it, it will go away eventually". If others come to them and say, "Look, I know you have a problem, let me help you with it", they only get more embarassed knowing that now everyone at their kids school knows that they are not getting rid of it, and she will likely tell you exactly where to go.

I agree with what you are saying, that we should try to help each other out more. I am not being judgmental, but I guess after 13 years of this, I see the way things are and not the way we wish them to be!

I don't know of any nurse that will make a home visit. In fact, our county is getting rid of school nurses starting next year. They will have 2 nurses rotating throughout 24 elementary schools in the county, none in high school or middle schools.

From experience, the Health Department is usually the only entity that can do anything about this. They can come in and give the mom some education, determine why the child can't get rid of them, etc. For some reason, most people will accept that kind of help from the Health Department before they would a concerned parent from their kids school. Maybe they feel like nobody knows if the Health Department comes, but everybody knows if another parent comes over?

You seem to have a very positive outlook on things. Good luck in your schooling.
Never a good idea to approach wildlife - sm
Even deer. One strike with a well placed hoof and you are done.

We live in the sticks. Waaay out in the sticks. We have coyotes, racoons, tons of deer, and the occasional bear and cougar roaming around.

Coyotes have come down and attacked our dogs in broad daylight right in front of the house and the racoons tear into the garbage cans.

Had a bear tear down our gate to the pasture trying to get to our horses one year. The gate post was 8 feet long, buried 4 feet down and anchored in concrete. The bear pushed it over like it was nothing. Thankfully it ran off when I fired a shot in the air.

The game department took one look at the picture I took of a problem racoon we had tipping our garbage cans and said, "Sorry, we don't have any traps big enough for that old man." He was HUGE! I have never seen a racoon that big in my life. I thought it was a big dog until I put the spotlight on it.

Wildlife is nice.... at a distance.
Giving away kittens. Need advice on best approach.
I have four 9 week-old kittens that need a home.   I found a good new home for 2 of them.   Anyway, I have told the girls, ages 7 and 3,  from the start that those kittens will need to be given away.  However, they have both become very attached to the kittens.  Anyway, the people are asking for them and is wondering when the best time to come get them.  I don't know if it would be better for them got get the kittens when the girls are here or when they are at school.  They are already getting under our cars and I am afraid they are going to get ran over.  They can eat solid food and drink water.  I still see mama cat nurse them though not as much as she used to. Any tips would be helpful.
I've heard good things and about things about taking prednisone. My mom was on it for SM
for awhile and it made her look so swollen.  I sympathize with you.
Puppy eating cat food, cats eating puppy food...
So I have three cats and a five month old puppy.

Cats eat Felidae, Puppy eats Canidae... or at least that is how it is supposed to be.

Both species eat mainly dry, but puppy gets wet at night when she is in "her room" (kitties do not go in puppy's room at night).

I cannot keep kitties out of Candiae and I cannot keep puppy out of Felidae

Can I relax or is this going to hurt either of them?

Advice very much appreciated!

TIA

Puppy ... maybe
The plan was to have just one dog, our Sasha, the nice, healthy, solid white rescued Siberian husky. She has been enjoying being treated like a queen for the last week, even though one night she did start acting oddly, sniffing surfaces, as if searching the house for any sign of Misha. Though she knows perfectly well because I let her smell Misha's collar and told her she was gone. I could tell she knew what I meant.

But I couldn't help looking at rescues and SPCA and even a nearby breeder who has had Siberians who won best of breed at Westmister. It wasn't just me who was filling out applications ... DH did it too. And he heard from a Siberian rescuer in West Virginia who had a call from a lady who needs to rehome her 7-month-old Siberian puppy because she was forced to move into an apartment, and it's not good for the puppy. And she is beautiful! Her face is open and Kodiak-bear like, just like Misha's was. And if I get her I'm going to carry her everywhere as long as I can ... because she's still a little bit puppy at 7 months, and they grow up so fast.

your puppy
If you Google home-made dog foods, there are lots of recipes you can try that might be gentle on his stomach. Being a puppy, he is probably sensitive to a lot of additives. Good luck, I hope you find something gentle that he can digest until he gets a bit older.
We have a new puppy!! sm

We got the sweetest little puppy this weekend! We were going to just foster her until she got a little bigger and stronger, but she is doing so well in the first two days with us..and all the other dogs like her..so we decided to keep her. She is a baby basset hound. She was the runt out of 13 and only weighs 2 pounds at eight weeks old. All of her brothers and sisters got homes and she was left behind. She quit eating and drinking and just cried all the time. We brought her home and she has been eating and drinking and her little tail never quits wagging. Sure makes ya feel good to see her thriving now after just two days!! We now have a cat, a mutt, a cocker spaniel, a Cavalier King Charles spaniel, and now her. They are all doing well together and nobody is being mean to her..so keep your fingers crossed!  All of our animals are boys and this little one is a girl. The boys are fixed and she will have to get it to when she gets older, so hopefully they can all behave!

Thanks for listening...just had to share!

Got my new puppy!!!

I posted last week about a new puppy to replace my dog that was stolen.  Well, I got lucky enough to get a full-blooded pekingese for free!  She is 14 weeks old and so sweet...   We named her Remy (all our dogs are named after a brown liquor - my husband's insistence!!!).

She is not too happy with trying to crate break her  and she threw up last night 5 times in my car and twice after I got home (car sick or overate on the new food the lady fed her yesterday), but today things are going good!

Wish me luck with the training...

Poor Puppy--sm
Wow. I feel so bad for the puppy (I call all doggies puppies no matter what size or age they are). I did not realize that pets could get or have SLE. I wish you the best for finding something to control symptoms. give puppy a pet for me too.
Your sweet puppy
I'm so very sorry for your loss. It's so difficult to loose someone we love.  Have you ever heard of the site, I believe it's called Rainbow's Bridge, the place where our beloved pets pass after they've left us?  Please visit the site and register your baby....perhaps it will make you feel just a bit better after you do and be sure to read the poem...
update on my puppy

Thanks to all of you, who are concerned. Took her to vets, they gave her a treatment for Coccydia (spelling?) some kind of bacteria in intestinal tract. They squirted something in her mouth that looked like tooth paste. So hopefully this helps.  I'm taking her back in a week for a recheck. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. She is 4 months old, so she had her vaccinations for parvo already.

And thanks to everyone for posting the recalled pet food links. I did check out the food that I feed my animals when this first happened and I've been keeping up to date on this. So far none of the foods I feed are on the list. But I'm still a little leery about pet foods. I'm looking into cooking for the dogs. Got a doggie cookbook. Thanks everyone for being so caring!

Puppy mills

Just wanted to relay a story about my friend's dog, who came from a pupy mill. Her name is now Lisel, as my friend is German. She named her after the little girl in the Sound of Music.

Lisel was born in a puppy mill and fortunately for her she was finally adopted by my wonderful German friend, Ute. Ute and Joe are animal loving people and have had everything including many, many dogs, cats, horses, parrot, a goat, etc. Lisel had four homes before Ute adopted her from Daschund Rescue. She is a beautiful Wire-haired Daschund. Resue told Ute that this dog, who was initially named Zoie  was a real problem for people and terribly hard to handle. Each time she was adopted it in failure and her return to Rescue.

Ute learned the history of Lisel's birth and life before she ever had a home. She was born in a puppy mill, and even after four homes and then being loved at Daschund Rescue she would literally scream when you approached. her. She was afraid of Ute's legs when they walked, and she would not permit her to go near her ears, neck and head. Hang in there. There is a happy ending.

Ute investigated and learned some of the practices going on such as just yanking them out of their wire crates by the ears and neck, and when they spirit moved them to clean the cages at all the animals were often not removed. The operator of the puppy mill took hoses with much pressure and just sprayed the cage with the dogs still inside. The list goes on and on.

I am happy to say that after almost a year my friend said that Lisel is playing on their beautiful propery in the country, running with her little brother and sister, Willie and Ali (both short-haired Daschund) and chasing bunnies and all kinds of fun things. She said she actually looks like she is smiling. I cried when I met her because I wanted her to love me like Willie and Ali do. Ute and Joe said to be patient, that it would happen eventually. She is a beautiful, wonderful dog who found the pot of gold. Ute and Joe refer to her as their Forever Baby. They did not give up, even though many times Ute would email me and tell me she cried the whole morning after trying to deal with Lisel.

We need our elected officials to start addressing some of these issues when they are running for office. I know some progess is being made, but we need much more. Thanks for taking the time to read this. I cried for joy when I read the last email from my devoted wonderful friends.

God Bless Lisel, Ute and Joe.

Puppy Mills
Puppy mills need to be closed down. But as long as people impulse by from pet stores, puppy mills will flourish.

The AKC should not register any dog from a PM. You know this won't happen as there is money to be made from the mills and also back yard breeders.

Sad thing is, the only ones who get hurt are the dogs and their owners.
Puppy mills

I happened upon this very informative link:    http://www.stoppuppymills.org/

and found their videos to be educational and heartbreaking!  No animal, not even animals being raised for consumption, should have to live their entire lives in tiny cages producing babies.  This is the best reason out there not to buy cats or dogs from pet stores or online ads.  If you want a purebred pet, a rescue organization for that breed is the best way to go.  If you still want to purchase a pet from a breeder, find one that's registered with the USDA, or through the American Kennel Club or the Cat Fanciers Association.

My cat acts like a puppy (sm)
He destroys toilet paper, paper towels. He goes into the cupboards and drawers and get into chips and bread and whatever else he can munch!

He will also stand in fron the fridge and MEOW!

I am surprised he doesn't bark........lol
puppy mills

A lot of people don't know about this.  I didn't know until I got my dogs 8 years ago.  I do see a lot of puppy mills getting shut down on Animal Planet, but why the rest of them get to continue is I guess no one reports them.  So if anyone knows of these places they should call their local animal control, which is not great, because sometimes they get put down, but to prevent these animals from living a life of horror, locked in a cage forever.  I missed the first half of the show, I wish I would have seen it just saw the previews which were horrible enough.

Even the local animal shelters are full of purebreeds because some people just bring them there after the puppy or dog they just paid a lot of money for from the pet store doesn't do what they want or chews something up, etc.   Either adopt from the local shelter where the dogs have more than a 50% chance of getting put down, very few get adopted, and the luckier ones are the ones that the rescue groups have already rescued.  They have a better chance of staying alive becasue they were rescued.  So try the shelters first and then go to Petfinder.com to find the breed you want.  The more dogs that get adopted from the shelters, the more room they have to put another one up for adoption.

Also if you have the time, space you can become a foster home for some of these dogs, all the rescue groups need volunteers to take in foster dogs until they can find them a permanent home and get them used to living with a family.  There are so many of them in need.

Everybody that adopts an animal is making a difference, one by one, the more the better.

I like the puppy singing . . .
there ain't no bugs on me. I also like the Avis car commercials, the ones where the car goes on about the owner renting a newer car, the car is all hurt and bitter.

Puppy pads. sm
My puppy is now 8 months old but she was pad trained.  You can buy an accessory to hold a frame around the pads so the puppy won't chew them up.  I think they have a scent to encourage puppy to go there.  I have a chihuahua and that works for me; although I do take her out and she has learned it is perfectly fine to go outside too.
Where do you live? I am looking for a lab puppy and
my friend is also looking for a lab. Are they yellow, black, chocolate?

How many boys, girls?

it's a puppy of COURSE it's destructive!
it makes me so sad when people adopt or buy dogs without knowing the responsibility that comes with them. even if she isn't in the "cute puppy stage" anymore. This puppy needs attention, needs exercise, needs play time, and even when those things occur she STILL might be destructive. The puppy needs training (like all dogs). she doesn't need to be on a "run leash" she needs to be taken on a run! i know this is probably better than a shelter, but not much... I have two dogs that i adopted, and they did all those things you mentioned. they are learning and exploring and curious! I did crate my dogs, that is what you have to do when you are not constantly watching them because you cannot discipline a dog AFTER the fact, they do not put two and two together. You have to CATCH them doing it, discipline, and CORRECt. For instance, you catch the pup chewing on the furniture you say NO or whatever to distract them, and then give her a toy she CAN chew on...

Crating is okay. i used to think it was awful, but now that is my dog's little bedrooms. of course you can't keep them in there all the time, please dont... but that is a suggestion for a couple of hours a day...

Puppy gifts
Training pads - and plenty of them!
Get a Poodle Mix Puppy
They don't shed and are so darn cute! I have a Malti-poo, part maltese/part poodle. Cutest, smartest little dog ever! And best of all, no shedding!!

You can't go wrong with a poodle mix. Good luck. I would be lost without my "babies" too.
puppy training

Start inching the pads closer and closer to the door, and eventually place the pads outside so she figures out that outside is where she really needs to be.

The piddling all the time when walking is marking territory - even in girl dogs.  She's finding other scents and peeing over them to leave her own scent on it. If you have her spayed I think you'll find that happens less often.

When she has accidents in the house, is there a pattern to the timing of it?  Her bladder is small enough that she needs to be either by a pad or taken outside every couple of hours.  Do you have an area in the house that you can sort of confine her with baby gates or some such so the carpets are not an issue?  Maybe keep her in the kitchen with lots of beds and cushions that are washable until she is old enough to have a little bit better control.

Good luck.  I know all about animals doing things where they're not supposed to do them.  Clorox Cleanup is my friend!

My new puppy is sick!!!

Okay, everybody, my new puppy that I love so much already has parvo and is in the hospital.  She went in yesterday morning.  So far, so good.  No vomiting and no diarrhea for 41 hours, but they are not wanting me to bring her home.

Can someone tell me if she is not vomiting and has no diarrhea and she is eating, what are they doing for her that I cannot do here at home?  I would rather her be here so that I can watch her.  If she got sick again, the vet's office is only 1/2 mile from my house - couldn't I run her back real quick (it is a 24-hour manned hospital)?

Anyway, everybody do what you do - say a prayer, send good vibes our way, whatever your choice is!  Just wish us back to good health!

New Puppy Woes
We got a new puppy a week ago and he is driving us crazy! This is the first time we have had a puppy. He is a 3-month-old chihuahua. We are pad training him because we live in an apartment. He is doing great with peeing but we can't seem to get him to poop on the pads. Also, he is still crying/whining at night. Last night he woke me up at 3:30 and again at 7:30 this morning, but not because he has to go to the bathroom. He just gets lonely. I try to ignore it in the middle of the night but when he gets loud, I worry about the neighbor's hearing him. He is also chewing on everything!! I know this is normal behavior so we give him lots of chew toys but he still wants to chew on everything else. A few days ago he chewed through the cord on my foot pedal. Any advise would be much appreciated I am ready to give up!
Puppy Woes
Wow. Been there, but did the outdoor training with our first pug. He was so stubborn about it (pugs are stubborn by nature). I'd take him out, give the command and after 15 minutes of him doing nothing, I brought him back in. He kept peeing and pooping in the house. One day, I did the usual, he did nothing, I brought him back in and he proceeded to go pee at my husband's feet. Well, Hubby isn't nearly the doormat I am and he took his head and rubbed his nose in it. He was trained from that point on.

With your dog, one thing is to keep an eye on him. Watch for him to start squatting and pooping, pick him up and take him to the puppy pad. Be consistent and he will get the idea. It is my opinion that if you find poo 20 minutes after the dog has done it and try to discipline him, he's not going to understand. Also, and I know this is going to sound gross, but keep an eye on his bum hole. When my 3 have to go, their bums are puckered out and/or dilating off and on as they decide where to go.

As far as chewing, firmly tell him "No!" and redirect to a toy. If he plays with toy, praise him to no end and even get down on the floor to pay tug-of-war.

As far as the crying, well, it could be he needs to potty but forgets about it when you come to rescue him. The general rule is a puppy can hold its bladder by age plus 1 month - A 2 month old puppy should be able to hold it for 3 hours, a 3 month old for 4 hours, etc. He could also very well be crying because he is lonely. You might lose some sleep, but bring him in your bedroom with the crate or dog bed and have him sleep on the floor by the bed. When he cries, comfort him and tell him it's time to go to sleep. Keep it up. I think he would feel a little more secure being in the same room.

Our first pug, Bumper, was a holy terror as a puppy and I wanted to return him something awful. He chewed things up, refused to be house trained for a long time and constantly bit our fingers, hands, feet and toes and would draw blood. I went to a pug forum site and discussed his issues. I got a lot of great advice. I was told that he would calm down around 18-24 months. At 20 months, he became a laid-back, lovey-dovey boy and has been that way ever since. Our second pug was only destructive to Bumper's face. He was so patient with her. However, I had to take him to the vet a few times because his face looked like ground beef from all of her chewing and biting and hanging off of his face wrinkles. He was on antibiotics a few times when Maggie was a puppy.

Our third pug is a rescue and he was pretty much housebroken but I've caught him marking in the house. He gets rewarded by having a belly band put around him.

Oh, one last thing - puppies generally have to poo within minutes of eating, so that's when to keep an eye on where he is. Once you get to know his pooping position (usually a hunched back), you can run him over to the puppy pad.

Let us know how you're doing. Here's a chihuahua forum you can check out:

http://www.chihuahua-people.com/

Good luck!
Cat foot vs. puppy food
I don't know anything about the Canidae or Felidae brands, but most of what I've read about cat care has said that cats need a lot more protein than dogs, and different nutrients. And cat food might be too rich for dogs. Especially for urinary health, and especially for male cats. I lost a lovely young male cat last year to urinary tract blockage and eventually complete renal failure. Although no one can be entirely sure if it was 100% food-related or not, I feel that it may have been, because my kitty ate ONLY dry food, which isn't good for cats, either. He just didn't like canned food and wouldn't touch it. I also had gotten lazy and occasionally let him eat cheap grocery-store dry cat food, which is too high in minerals that can make them more prone to feline lower urinary tract disorder (FLUTD). Unfortunately he didn't die quickly or inexpensively, either! It was quite an ordeal. So in order to hopefully prevent this tragedy from happening in the future, my new cat now eats ONLY a premium dry cat food (Royal Canin) and gets canned food twice a day, in addition to plenty of fresh water.

Anyway, that's my personal experience, but of course, your best bet is to talk to your veterinarian! :)
To the person with the sick puppy
Immediately check out this list.  The brands you have been giving the puppy are on this list.  Thousands of dogs and cats have died from renal failure.
potty training puppy

Please do not and I will repeat that DO NOT potty train your puppy using the crate method unless you do not work at home and will not be home for 8-10 hours every single day.  I have had many dogs in my life and crate training is crate training and potty training is potty training.  Yes, you want the pup to  know that the crate is his safe place and yes if you cannot keep an eye on him you will want to put him there but first think about these questions....after he goes outside and pees do you let him have a drink?  Do you play with him thereby making hime excited?  Either of these things will cause  a pup to go pee again even though they just went.  It could also be submissive peeing and if you dont make a big deal about it, he should out grow it; however, if you check for drinking and playing and this does not seem to be submissive then the next time you go to the vet mention it to them.  My friend's pup did this until she was fixed and the vet had a reason why it happened(even did it in her sleep) and she did out grow it and is much better.

And there is no real time table for saying a pup should be totally housebroken and accident free.  I always say within the first six months, it is your fault and up until a year, an accident can happen.  Yes, btw, I have had pups that were trained within 6 weeks or less of coming home; however, I did have a boxer that honestly took six months before she really got the idea.  Also I suggest bells on a string/yarn etc and hung from the door knob and when we ask them if they have to go potty or you are taking them out, stop and jingle the bells and say something about going potty.  I and my friends have used this method and it seems to help them get the hint too about the door being the way to get to go potty.

Best of luck

Of course not.  I guess I should have been more blunt about saying that you should not confine a pup to a crate and call it potty training or be foolish enough to say that by locking it in a crate that it is potty trained.
10 years? She looks like a puppy! Very cute! nm

Potty training puppy

I just got a new puppy yesterday.  It was a stray that someone put up on craig's list.  It looks as though she was abused by her previous owner because she is so shy and scared around my husband (she does not like men), but is not that way with me.  In fact, she follows me around all day long.  I can't even go to the bathroom! lol  She is peeing everywhere.  What are your tips on potty training a dog.  I do not want to scold her because she is already very shy and afraid.  And what about tips on when I am trying to work.  If I do not give her attention for a short while, she starts to whine.  It is like having a baby here.  Any advice would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Any suggestions on helping my puppy with
