that's your opinion and you are entitled (sm)
to it.  However, so are we, entitled to be happy with MQ.  Sorry if that offends anyone!
I'm as entitled to my opinion as you are.
You're the one upset, dear. Not me.

Yes, most of the whining on here is juvenile. It isn't constructive in any shape or form.

Yes, you are free to gripe. I'm free to respond as well.

I don't think I'm above anything. How ridiculous. I'm in the same boat as most everyone; I just have a different outlook.

As for your "typical office environment"...now THAT is absolutely a hoot! You are truly right on target there. Yes, it IS like a typical office environment. Full of disgruntled, dissatisfied workers who will not budge from their mired-up dark places but demand all in the company change for them. It is a rumor mill of the most destructive type. It is an emotional wringer.

The continual gripe sessions have made absolutely no progress for any of the problems discussed. The constant pity parties have made no positive impact either. They have only kept people upset and drawn others into a horrendous emotional spin.

Just keep on, Cowgirl. You have every right to get upset and stay that way.

I'm continuing on. You're not influencing my actions in the least. :)

As I said EVERYONE is entitled to their own opinion, nothing more to say - nm

yep, UR sure entitled to your opinion....nm

We all are entitled to our own opinion of course and our way of doing things - nm
xx
Grow up. As I mentioned, we are all entitled to our own opinion...

I was certainly not saying I was representing "everyone's" sentiments.  I offered insite into WHY I believe not everyone will care to answer the original question.

I have no idea what your problem is, and I don't care.  Grow up.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, no one would accuse you of enabling.
nm
Can both be checked at the same time? That's what
x
Sorry we posted at about the same time --you have checked.
Good for you checkig.
OMG! Just checked my time sheets regarding the post below
about drop down menu having changed for our stats, and the time sheet is JUST LIKE SPHERIS NOW!!!  The poster below is right - there is no more choice of "correction" for editing versus transcription, and there are a zillion in and out boxes to log in, JUST LIKE SPHERIS!!  Bet the new "pay plan" is now here, and we'll hear really soon....The time sheets are ready - just might help if we knew, too!
last time i checked, MENSA was a party organization! Not much more going on.

Last time I checked, even MTs use the English language and we should have a command

of that language and that includes all the rules and regs taught from gradeschool on up.  Now, it's totally up to you if you choose to be an AHDI robot.  I acknowledge that a lot of MTSOs use the BOS as their guideline and if you work for those MTSOs, then you are obligated to follow "their" rules if you want your paycheck, but that does not mean that the rule book is correct.  Quite simply, it is not.  A group of retired MTs got together, had a meeting, and decided to make up a set of rules.  Then they had a really fantastic marketing team that set out to market those rules as the end-all, be-all of medical transcription.  They definitely found a willing audience for the crap they were peddling and they capitalized on it.  I guess that's the American dream -- making a bundle of money of a bunch of suckers willing to pay, no questions asked.

I, however, choose to buck the system.  I'm a noncomformist, I guess.  I earned my bachelor's in English before I decided to become an MT.  I believe it's important to be able to express oneself articulately and intelligently using the written word.  I dislike what texting, email, and chat rooms have done to the English language (witness above post "wannbe MT ur opinions..."!!!!!).

Oh well, that's just me.  I work for a hospital that could care less about the AHDI and its BOS.  In my spare time, I wage my anti-BOS and anti-AHDI campaign in the hopes that MTs will wise up and MTSOs will too.

long time MTs opinion on BOS sm

I would like opinions from everybody but especially those that have 20+ years experience in MT.  What are your opinions on the Book of Style?

This is my opinion.........I think its a bunch of crap!  Seems to me a few people got together and decided to come up with this BOS and then put it on the market as "the law" of medical transcription. Of course they make money from it.  I have wondered who gave this author or authors the authority that everything they say to do is correct and anything that deviates is incorrect?

On top of that, every now and then they decide to change it MTs learn this baloney all over again, thus more money for them.  I see so many questions and comments on here about the BOS that it seems to me it has become the
"end all, be all" in the medical transcription profession.  Horse puckey!

I literally have seen companies especially the BIG ONE let excellent MTs get away simply because their test scores were not what the "X" wanted with the reason being a comma here and a comma there when the content was EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!

If I were hiring folks again, that BOS would go out the window and I would take an MT based on their MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTION SKILLS!  The preferences for punctuation and other things can be learned on-the-job.  Not all companies think the BOS is the BIBLE of Medical Transcription.  Personally I think BOS is a crock!.

I forgot though, AAMT started all this and they are not AAMT anymore.  That tells me a whole lot too!  Money, money money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

opinion question regarding taking substantial time off

I am so burnt out that I am seriously contemplating just taking the summer off.  Does anyone have any opinions on how this would hurt me come fall and job searching.  I have a job at the present time working IC that I absolutely am not enjoying.  I have tried to give it some time but it has been since November and I have not fallen in love with the job yet.

I am wondering how will look on a resume in the fall to have a 3- or 4-month gap in my resume.  I have 8 years experience and I am sure I would have no trouble getting back in to it, perhaps with a refreshed attitude?  Has anyone done this, and how was the job search afterwards?

Thanks for any advice.

Opinion needed-New to IC Full time career

I'd like anyone's opinion on getting started as a new full time MT.

I am a new stay at home mom with two small children, one 3mo old and a 7yr old.  Until recently, I worked in a hospital/clinic setting for 10+ years.  Having gotten most of my MT experience on the job, I am now looking to trade in corporate america for working full time out of my home.

I see a lot of job listings that require roughly a 6000 line count weekly quota and they also ask about your preferrd shift.  Currently my level is at half that much, as I was only doing IC work partime for a friend.  Also, when doing IC work, I am used to working around my schedule and not a consecutive 8 hour workshift.

My questions are (1.) Is 6000 lines/wk the norm for what is out there or are there more flexible companies out there? (2.) Given my current work level of 1500 lines per week, am I doomed to be unemployed if I don't increase my productivity to what I have been seeing lately which is 6000 or if I can't work "shift" work?

Opinion needed-New to IC Full time career
Thank you guys for the info.  That helps put things into perspetive for me!
Did you check and see what's checked or not checked in Preferences. Maybe something got messed up
s
k, that is your opinion, i stated mine. poor quality in my opinion shows bad work ethics if they do
;
So obviously anyone entitled to a refund....sm
then will be eligible for this?  I also know people who don't pay a dime all year and then end up getting a refund at the end of the year because of the earned income credit, etc.  So those people will definitely get this, correct?
Vent all you want; you are certainly entitled. sm
The MT industry/career sunk months ago, and it was an even bigger sink than the Titanic. However, in this case, this sink destroyed thousands of very dedicated and very hard-working MTs who were filled with nothing but passion and love regarding transcribing.
ICs are not entitled to vacation, insurance, etc. If you are

wanting benefits you need to be an employee.

Correct: If you are an IC, you are not entitled to unemployment
Have you talked directly with them about your concerns?

IMO, every client is entitled to have their reports the way they would like
them. For example, Roman numerals were accepted and correct for years before whoever decided they were in charge decided to change them. They is why each client should have dedicated MTs to their account. Those MTs will learn the account and transcribe it per client's wishes. I hate putting the actual patient name in a report, but certain facilities want it that way.
People are entitled to express their own opinions, right? . . . So . . .

if their view doesn't happen to be the same as yours, they are judging and only come here to cause problems.  Good grief!  Everyone's opinion has validity as just that - AN OPINION.

Even though I may not agree with someone, I still respect their right to have their own opinion/view.  Just because I have I different stance doesn't mean I think they are stupid or wrong.  People can disagree without a "war."

I meant to type--they feel entitled and are
nm
Your post should be entitled "Unrealistic MT speaks."

I've been in this business long enough to know that number one, it is darn hard to get any clinic to sign a contract with an MT, and two, I'd put my head on the block and say that 99.99% of them would never sign a contract stating that if they break the contract, they would  continue to pay the MT x-amount per month, and if their high-powered attorney allowed them to do such an air head thing, they'd find a legal loop hole via to get out of it soooooo quick.

The MT who originated her post was obvlously feeling very down, as you would be if it happened to you, so I must say it was very BIG of you to kick her while she was in that position, and I have to wonder, who's more professional - you or the clinic who dumped her with no notice after years of good service.

May the karma bug bite you big time in the butt, and it will, too.

Have a nice day - Julie

According to the latest Plexus journal entitled "Planning Your exit" ....
even editing may soon be a thing of the past. I don't have the journal, but I have heard about at least one article making the point that, even though the unedited reports produced by physicians using VR are atrocious, the quality (or lack thereof) is beginning to be acceptable anyway with seemingly no concern about the how the poor quality of these reports might impact patient safety or quality of health care. The article makes the observation that this trend may be the harbinger of the death of our profession, hence the title, "Planning Your Exit." Anyone have the journal and, if so, can you share more of what it has to say?
It was $89 the last I checked, but...
you can pick them up at a much better price on eBay.  :)
I checked this but....sm
I couldn't find the medication any cheaper than the one local pharmacy that I'll be getting it from. Buying in 1-3 month supply didn't cut the cost more than 75 cents for the entire 3 month period, so basically not worth the hassle of multi-month purchasing.
Have you checked into
your local telephone company? I have my DSL service through my phone company and I only pay $20.00 a month for mine.
You should have this checked out!! sm
My uncle and his wife were living in a mobile home that had some water damage from a hurricaine. This causes mold to be inside the walls. She was sick for months with respiratory symptoms and cough - they finally found out about the mold problem. By then she had some sort of infection in her lungs and ended up on oxygen and eventually died. Please get this checked out! She and her family had to make the decision to turn off her respirator (she was conscious the whole time, just could not breathe on her own.) It was terribly sad.
Just checked on this
Spouse is on disability and wanted to go back to work. They told him he can work 9 months out of 5 years if he makes under 640. a month. If he makes over 640. a month working, then benefits stop sooner. There is information on their website.
thanks -I checked with my
local govt office yesterday and they said I needed a vendor's license.  Maybe I should just do a little more checking.
I just checked it out myself.
There is always someone out there trying to be funny. NOT. I reported that one too.
Thanks, I checked
and Comcast doesn't seem to have any numbers local to her.
I checked there
It completely disappeared. Unfortunately, I had the disk for the spellchecker when I worked for my first company and I don't have it any more. The tech said he'd put something different in my computer (I forgot what he called it). He has no idea what could have happened to it either. Thanks anyway.
Just checked again, and I'm sure
I guess it's kind of strange that there would be different variations. Maybe it depends on if it was pre-installed on a computer when you bought it or if it's a purchased version, or I'm sure there might be other things that could change the way different things look. I did go back and check again just now, and after the last comment, and I am sure that under the 'view' tab, if I click on 'outline', I have empty white squares.
Who knows? At any rate, at least the OP was able to use everyone's suggestions to find and the problem on their end.
I checked the archives and there isn't much on TRS.
TIA
Get your magnesium checked
I used to grind my teeth and nothing helped. When I had a physical, a wonderful physician mentioned that a couple of my symptoms (including bruxism) sounded like a magnesium deficiency. After taking a supplement a couple of weeks, the grinding stopped and has never returned.
Checked out your website and it looks like
But the Red Cross has actually done it, and that makes all the difference.
Have you checked with the school he goes to?
I know that some of the colleges my daughter has applied to offer health insurance, although she will be going full-time. I'm not sure if he would qualify, but its worth a look!
Have you checked the Job Board
If you go under Careers, then Job Bank, there is a company from Canada needing MTs.  I don't remember the name, but the ad is not very old (within the past week).
Maybe have your thyroid checked? sm
A malfunctioning thyroid can cause those symptoms, I think. I used to work with a gal who was always freezing and slept alot and doc said her TSH was almost zip. He put her on Synthroid and she felt a lot better.
If OP had checked the archives on any of these
companies she would have found all the info needed.  I've posted in minute detail many times about SS when asked, so the information is there.
Have you checked out Flylady.net?

Thanks, I checked the strength
and dosing, and you are correct.
I checked it out recently (sm)
If I weren't already in my senior year of college and on a different path, I'd definitely check it out. The average income was something like 45K (salary.com).

I'd not worry about competition. MT is considered hard for newbies to break into, but we did that, didn't we? Where there's a will, there's a way.

I'd definitely consider it if I were you. Frankly, getting out of the house sounds really nice to me.
You haven't checked around much then.
Spheris' top accounts pay 10.2 cpl base plus incentive and differential for acute care work.

My current national employer pays me 10 cpl base plus incentive and differential for acute care work.

That's 2 that I can personally vouch for.
I just checked it out and it looked like (sm)

a "return to work" site to get people off disability and working.

They want you to sign up with a state worker to help you with vocational rehabilitation and get you back to work?  That's what I read.  And also they want you to work 30 hours a week with the telephone jobs.  That would be almost full-time, persons on permanent disability are not allowed to work that much.

I checked out the link and...sm
It does not even contain anything in regards to the message I posted, therefore I do not believe it has been found to be just an urban legend or flat out lie. However, I did state in my original post that I did not know if it was true, just passing along information I received...this link does not disprove what I posted, sorry!
I just checked out both of these sites and
there is no rsp.com and the other said the site was under construction. I have heard that VA jobs are the jobs to have, though. Good luck!!
