A KVM switch will let you use 2 different hard drives on the same monitor. Saves much space

Posted By: on the desk. I think they may be internal too now on 2006-02-27

Check out KVM switch.  I used my hospital computer provided to me when I first started with MQ.  I used the KVM switch and that way I didn't have to invest in a monitor right off the bat.  All I needed was a hard drive to dump the MQ program into.  Then I could switch back and forth from one hard drive to the other.  I don't know if this is what you are looking for but just thought I'd add this here as it has saved me much money and space.

Today's hard drives...(sm)
...are perfectly adequate to hold not only a couple of hundred, but many times that without impacting computer performance.
A KVM switch would let you use 2 pc's, 1 monitor and 1 mouse.
It's a pretty reasonably priced piece of equipment, I think around $50. By using hot keys, you switch from 1 pc to the other.
Is there a space or a hard return at the end of your entry? sm
that's the only thing I can thing of that would cause this. In the "text to expand" box, hit ctrl+end and this will take you to the very end of your expansion. Maybe there's a space or something there that you can't see.

I know you've been having a lot of trouble with this lately! Good luck!
I always double-space. Single is too hard to read, and

How hard is it to type a word in a blank space? I'm afraid

Outsourcing saves less than claimed
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060413/tc_nm/outsourcing_dc_1

Is this really a surprise to any of us?...

Thu Apr 13, 4:32 AM ET

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - Outsourcing of information technology and business services delivers average cost savings of 15 percent, a survey found on Thursday, disproving market claims that outsourcing can reduce costs by over 60 percent.

After professional fees, severance pay and governance costs, savings range between 10 percent and 39 percent, with the average level at 15 percent when contracts are first let, according to outsourcing advisory firm TPI.

"This research proves that the promise of massive operational savings is unrealistic when you take into account the costs of procurement and ongoing contract management," Duncan Aitchison, TPI's managing director, said in a statement.

"In our experience, outsourcing arrangements which focus solely on delivering huge savings often fail to meet client expectations," he added.

Cost reduction remains the primary motivation behind current outsourcing contracts, but an increasing number of companies are outsourcing primarily to improve quality, at 21 percent now versus 11 percent in 2004.

The first three months of 2006 had the largest number of outsourcing contracts ever signed in the first quarter of a year. TPI found that 83 contracts were signed, valued globally at over 18 billion euros ($21.9 billion), compared with 76 deals worth just over 13 billion euros over the same period last year.

IBM, EDS and T-Systems were the main beneficiaries of contracts let in the first quarter of 2006, winning total contract values of 3.7 billion euros, 3.6 billion euros and 1.1 billion euros, respectively.

The pipeline of deals on which TPI is currently advising is led by EDS, IBM and CSC, which are competing for deals totaling 6.4 billion euros, 6 billion and 4 billion, respectively, it added.

AutoCorrect only saves the font if . . .

you check formatted text when making an entry.  Otherwise the font is whatever you are using at the time you use the entry.  You shouldn't have to have multiple entries just for different fonts.

Now, if an entry needs to be bolded or italicized, then you need to check formatted text for that to come up when you use that particular entry.  It's the same for multiple-line addresses - check formatted text or you will get one long line with ** instead of a line break.

Truth be told, AutoCorrect is actually a fine Expander until you get to about 5000 entries.  Then it may get a bit boggy.

I meant "One space or two", not "l space or two" nm

I'm a vegetarian so not buying meat saves,
but also, the more *fixed* food is, the more expensive it is - for example, if I want soup, I buy the ingredients and make it myself, plus it tastes better and isn't loaded with garbage I don't need like salt and fat.

I don't buy extras - candles have been out for a long time - I have a few in case of power failure, but nothing fancy. I don't have a cell phone, or anything other than basic TV. I buy clothes at thrift stores (which is actually a lot of fun), and I never hang out at malls - impulse buying is out.

Get an extra plastic bottle and pour half your shampoo into it, then fill with water. Most people use way too much shampoo, conditioner, etc - dilute w/water - does the same job and lasts way longer.

If you will search around the web with Google, you can come up with hundreds of ways to save money - most of us buy stuff we don't need simply because we are lazy or we think our every desire needs to be gratified.

It's mostly just excess baggage; it is amazing how good it feels to not need *stuff* to feel good.

the potpourri idea is fabulous!!, plus don't forget the wonderful scent of herbs you can grow yourself to mix with the cinnamon, etc.

Good luck and have fun!
Thank you! That's pretty handy and saves time! nt

Do you have Allow Fast Saves checked on one of the computers?
Look at the save tab in the options on both computers. You need to uncheck fast saves, then both computers should give you the same count.
The silver lining about the snippy ads is it saves us
or even worse, working for them. Although they're shooting themselves in the foot, those kind of ads are doing US a favor. ;)
Also got rid of our house phone because we all had cell phones and that saves me about 75.00 a month
or so.
She drives me insane!!!!!!!!!!!

What drives me nuts is
EVOO. I do not like that at all.

She says EVOO then says extra virgin olive oil????
It also drives me crazy when...
my kids send me e-mails with absolutely nothing capitalized and everything spelled phonetically.
have to say really drives me crazy too
but when I used to do work for docs I knew more personally brought a smile to my face when one night the doc said "and for your listening pleasure my daughter Lilly on the piano" and she played a few bars of something (she was about 5 at the time) at the end of his dictation.
Drives me crazy

I have a new doc today and he says that he has a ton of reports to read, so to make it easier (I'm not sure for whom) he says NOT to type articles (is, are, of, etc.).  It is actually HARDER for me not to type these words in than it would be to add them!  It's making me nuts looking at these choppy reports.  They should just be doctors and let us do our job!

THIS DRIVES ME NUTS
why are we so concerned with sending work overseas??

This nation is so concerned with fixing problems everywhere else in the world and not focusing on our own!

Why do we constantly send work, money, military, etc etc etc overseas when we have homeless, starving, children (and adults!) here in the USA? We have students who can't go to college because they can't afford it and the federal government won't help because they are not a minority! We have people who can't get jobs for the same reason!

How about this?! Why don't we stop looking at race, background, and gender, and start looking at qualifications? Why don't we stop judging what people need based on color?

But i'm getting off track...

This country has a serious issue, and it starts with companies like AHDI. Rather than lobby for "a standard" they need to lobby for our work staying right here. When there is such an over abundance of work here that no one goes hungry and everyone has a roof over there head, then we can send it over there. I know there is such a romanticism about helping foreign areas. We see it everywhere. Celebrities adopting foreign children, missionaries wanting to go to China but not bothering to minister to people in their own back yard. Yes, we need to help, but we need to take care of our own also!

There is something wrong when a basketball player makes millions and a teacher barely can get by on his or her salary. What kind of country have we become? We place more value on entertainment then on morals and education.

When will it stop? We are going to dig ourselves in to such a hole and we are going to pull down all of our greed, immorality, conceitedness and every other vile thing we have become down on our heads!

I'm sorry I just don't understand what is so great about our country anymore. It seems we've got it pretty twisted. It won't be long before we start to reap what we sow. And I promise you, in the healthcare world, if all of our transcription goes overseas, and the documentation process becomes sub par, next thing you know the lawsuits will quadruple, which will raise the cost of healthcare, which will mean absolutely no healthcare for some, and so on and so on.

But hey, all in pursuit of the almighty dollar, right???
If it rains hard, the wind blows hard and there are trees
nearby, it snows heavily it will mess up the signal.  The speed is not constant, sometimes as slow as dial-up, but at least still connected.  Many companies will not allow satellite.
That totally drives me nuts....
they just keep talking right on through the yawn as if we can even remotely begin to understand what they are saying. Sheesh!
what absolutely drives me insane..

commas!  I would like to tell the people who type for TV station "crawls" to PLEASE put a comma after the state name when city and state names are used in a sentence. As in Tulsa, Oklahoma, blah, blah, blah.  Also NO comma between month and year, PLEASE!  That absolutely drives me up a wall!!!  Somebody please tell them!  I know, I know.... crazy is not a long drive for me.  lol

Thank you for clarifying. Drives me nuts
when people just read the first 2-3 lines and think they have the story.  Although, sadly in the end would agree that he probably would not be the best motivational speaker - but I would have said that before his probs began - he just does not seem right for that kind of organization - but those are my personal feelings only.  Thanks again
Yes, we swapped cars. DH drives my 4 cyl his 13 mi to work and I keep
x
Absoluuuuuuutely abSOfreakinglutely drives me nuts.
dd
Yes, "myself" drives me nuts as well as "further" for sm
"farther" and "anxiousness" instead of "anxiety." TV newscasters are really getting bad. They're adding "ous" to everything!

leave them right there, no matter how much it drives you nuts!
I did this for a week with my husband. Pretty soon his stuff was all over the house and come one Monday morning he about had a stroke trying to put together something to wear. Guess what? After that he started putting his things away like a "big boy" because mommy was not there to help him all the time. This is what my MIL should have done when he was living at home, not catering to his every need and constantly "helping him"!!!
and the doc spells "orientated." drives me nuts.
nm
I have a new female dictator who just drives me nuts.
She speeds through the entire physical exam in less than 10 seconds. She gets going really fast and doesn't swallow, so I can hear her spitting all over while she talks! If she can't be bothered to slow down and enunciate so that she can be understood, she deserves to have blanks in her reports. It's not auctioneer school, lady!
So, you think it is okay for hard-working MTs to earn 7-8 cpl for their hard work?? nm
:{
How true, I have one very crappy doc that drives me nuts, just got done 10 minutes of him that is-sm
riddled with blanks.  I go through it once more, then the office mgr goes through it and fills in what I cannot get. We have an understanding that I do what I can then send it in luckily on him.  It is an all-around non-money making account....I waste my time, she wastes her time then the owner proofs it. This doctor even has horrible residents who dictate for him. If there was not so much background noise I would do a lot better but they somehow manage to find the most horrible place to do their dictation and go to town with it........surprised I still have hair left.  I told them that if we continue to do this guy (the doctor had decided to stop using the service but changed their mind recently) that I should be paid double (I get the bulk of this twit) and they should charge more to do him due to all the heck he puts us through. ------Can't wait to see what happens with that one!
I just said hello to "the paper boy." He is about 50, drives a nice car and seems happy.
dd
My hubby drives a long distance truck
thank goodness! He says the trucking business in dire need of truckers. Bet we don’t see folks punching those in.
You undercut yourself, which drives prices down industry-wide. sm
For a hospital, NEVER go under $0.16 per line to start. Most will want to negotiate and the lowest should be 0.14 per line.
Thank god for crock pots. 'cept the smell drives you crazy all day.
.
I am right there with you. It drives me crazy. A typo in a casual e-mail is one thing... sm
But work e-mails full of spelling and grammar mistakes, punctuation mistakes, capitalization errors... I see it and I can't help but think the person sending the e-mail is uneducated.

And I don't want to go into details, but my supervisor (I work for a national co.) is almost illiterate. I get long, rambling e-mails that have phrases and words that make no sense! I have no idea what this person means sometimes. It's so bad, I'm starting to think maybe he/she is dyslexic, which is sad, but I wonder how you get a job as an MT supervisor when you can't communicate effectively? (Over the phone is no better!) My gosh.
Are you a monitor here?
>>
I luv my LCD monitor
Not much to assemble. It's really a matter of popping the two cords into the back of the monitor. It'll take you about 15 minutes from start to finish ... that includes opening the box, taking out everything, reading the directions, connecting the monitor, installing the software), and throwing the box out.
monitor

If you use your computer a lot, plan on buying a lot of batteries or having a backup for a wireless with a charger.

As for monitors, you can get them on pricewatch pretty cheap now.  I actually bought my son a 21 inch Sony on ebay for 200 including shipping.  For my own 19 inch, I bought it at a rent-to-own furniture store.  Once they have them a few months, they sell them and I bought it for 40. and it's like new.

Monitor
Yes! Yes! Yes! I recently got a flat-screen and I love, love, love it. I have a Sceptre which I bought at Wal-Mart for about $150.00. Best thing I ever did. It really cut down on my headaches. Get a flat-screen. You will not be sorry. I promise. :)
Well I DO need a big monitor...
these days. After hitting 40, my eyesight definitely isn't what it used to be, LOL!
monitor
i used to have this happen, and with mine, it was not a precursor to going out. But i can't remember what supposedly caused it -- power surge, interference?? but in my case, led to no other problems.
Monitor......
Buy a shield or screen for the monitor that minimizes glare from the lightsource.
Need help with monitor

I recently had a monitor conk out, so I got the one out that came with my personal computer (a couple years old but never used).

Everything was fine for a few weeks but lately, out of the blue, my page will shift to the right for no apparent reason (leaving 1-1/2 inch of black on the left and the right edge of the page not in view) and then it will shift back at some point.

When I press on the monitor menu button, nothing happens at all.  I know when I first set it up, the menu and selections worked fine.

Any idea what is happening here?

Do you use more than one monitor?...

My husband and I "built" our new computer on Dell's website last night, and they are offering a second monitor for a very reasonable rate.  My question is, does anyone have this set-up using 2 monitors to work?  I didn't quite see the use for 2, but maybe to have one just for typing, and the other for my references?

Apparently, it is set up that you just have to move your mouse and it will move over to the other screen....seems easy enough.  But, I don't know if it would be worth the extra space it would take up on my desk and work area.  So,does anyone have this set-up and consider it a must?

Thanks very much for your help!

What monitor do you have?

This has nothing to do with the monitor...sm
It's about how the page will be printed:

Portrait or Landscape.

Click on 'File'
Click on 'Page Set Up'

Then you have the option: Portrait or Landscape, click how you want it printed.

Portrait prints it vertical
Landscape horizontal (for longer lines)

Has anyone had to switch from MT...
because of problems with carpal tunnel or other wrist issues?  I have been offered a job out of the house doing something other than MT.  I would not even be considering the position other than I have started having a lot of problems with my wrists even though I have the ergo keyboard, wrist supports, etc.  Has anyone else considered or left MT because of this?
You only need the KVM switch if
you only got the CPU and it is expected that you will use your own keyboard, monitor, mouse.
KVM switches have nothing to do with internet connections.
