A friend had one in their guest room. sm

I slept on it while staying at his house, and I felt more like it was just a "gimmick" - noticed no difference in how well I slept. It was fun to use the control remove, though.

A nice sunny room just for me in our finished lower level. Love my cocoon room.
:+
I have never had my own room. I shared a room with my sister, went away to college sm
and had a roommate (whom I am still close to) for 4 years, moved back home and back to sharing a room with my sister while she went to a local college and then got married. In fact, after 17 years of marriage, this is the first time in my life that I have had my own dresser, not just the top two or bottom two drawers!

I could never live alone. Not for fear but for loneliness. I like my alone time but I love to have people around.

I wish I had your faith in the system.  Companies offshore because they want to hire a cheap labor force.  They will hire apprentices for the same reason.  If new MTs have to pass the RMT exam that the AAMT proposes, then enter into an apprenticeship program, companies are going to snap them up at low line rates. Where does that leave the rest of us?

Also, the AAMT does not represent the majority of MTs.  I saw no nationwide poll of MTs to ask their opinion about an apprenticeship program.  I didn't see it even for those who do belong (I read the AAMT board).

The AAMT, in my opinion, is as much of a threat to MTs as offshoring.  The MT jobs are going overseas as it is.  Soon they will go to apprentices.  The AAMT works for the MTSOs, not for MTs.  We need to take political action to stop this insanity.

and is that how one treats a guest?.....nm

Will you be my Guest Blogger?

Hello!

Well, I've got the new transcription blog off the ground and right now I'm in the process of posting stories about how we all got into the world of MT, and also a few personal things too, to show that MTs are not just sitting behind the computer screen all day...

Would anyone here like to be a "guest blogger?" You can tell your story. Unfortunately, I can't compensate you other than having your voice heard and you can of course put links to your biz, your yahoo group, or anything near and dear to your heart. Please email me privately if interested. Thanks!

Please take a look at the other stories already posted!

Gonna tell guest, "Don't take your coats off."

LOL! I guess Neil Cavuto's guest

who debated this issue just last week on his show was full of sour grapes, as well.

I've never seen a plumber or car mechanic or electrician collecting foods stamps.  I HAVE seen lawyers with their JD degrees turn red and spaz over the BILLS they receive from people in these professions, though.

Your comment was just ignorant.  Wake up.

How about your husband tells the friend to tell his female friend to lose the #?

way off topic wedding present question - is there proper etiquette on the amount a guest must (sm)
spend on the wedding present?   I have known people who hardly know the bride and groom yet spend $75 to $100 on a present.  Is this now the expected/correct amount to spend?  I was inclined to spend $25.  Am I being cheap?
A friend of a friend is taking CareerStep - sm
she is under the misguided idea that she will be making very good $ upon completing the course (a friend of hers supposedly makes $55K a year). I told her no way, at least not starting out and not unless all the factors click together, i.e. good typing speed, good pay (not for a newbie), good dictators (unlikely) and dedication to working hard. I told her what I make after 5 years (16K) but that is PT and I have the potential to double that if I would push myself, not procrastinate so much (I web surf way too much) and work more than I already do. I am not a fast typist but am good at what I do. I will be surprised if she follows though. She told me she'd call me when she finished the course, I just hope she is ready for reality.
Need ideas for vegetarian snacks for New Year's Eve. Having a guest over who is vegetarian.

NO, THERE IS NOT ENOUGH ROOM
in the insane asylums for all us newbies !!!!!!
Seriously,I do turn the speed up one notch from the middle for one or two excellent dictators, but any more than that, and most dictators would sound like chipmunks!!
I have room -- do you?

Looking at all of those thousands of displaced, hardworking, honest people and families you have to know that their homes and jobs are simply gone.  They will need to start over elsewhere.

Can someone create an information bank of those of us willing to offer housing availablity (such as an extra bedroom) on a short-term basis.  Sort of a temporary arrangement for the family to have shelter and food while looking for a new job/home etc?

Is there an agency for this?

I'm a room mom too...I always sm

order from Oriental Trading Company.  Tons of inexpensive crafts for all ages.  Sometimes the teacher will take up a 50 cent or 1 dollar donation from each child to cover the cost, but generally I just pay for it myself and write it off as a donation.

Get a room
x
I have my own room
used to be the third bedroom. Just recently budget decorated (yard sale finds, etc) it in a moderate retro look, black/gray computer, black accessories, peach wall and funky 1950s barkcloth curtains and bulletin boards (can't live without a place to tack up reminders, etc), black iron and oak bakers rack, painted a tall chest of drawers black to hold office supplies, black bookcase and two dark oak desks. Sounds kinda of dark with all the black, but it is realy quite light with the peach on the walls. Going for a more clean, streamlined look (Previously had country birdhouse decor). Even with my own office, I'm constantly fighting paperwork!! Ugh!
When I was room mom.....
I coordinated parties, helped out with field trips, that sort of thing. I had student names and their parents and telephone numbers so I could call around if I needed help with something (like a Christmas party). Also, to introduce yourself, send a note home with each child introducing yourself and letting them know if they have questions, they can call. I had parents call me just to find out my thoughts on different things going in the class. I loved being room mom. You get to know the kids. Also, let the teacher know that you are available to help her. Good luck!!
room mom

Oh boy, does that bring home memories! I was not a success....the first thing you do is take a Valium an hour before you go! Seriously though, talk to your co-mom, then the teacher, ask her about the dos and don'ts of parties, etc. I think the thing that got me the worst was the little chairs I had to sit on! Lot of trouble getting down on one, then getting up!

The little ones (I'm talking kindergarten) are excited to be there, they get noisy, and there are a lot of them! Also, there are always one or two that cry at first, one might go somewhere and cover up with a blanket and stay there the entire time, sucking his/her thumb! Of course, somebody always wets their pants or worse in the beginning. I thought I would lose my mind, but I kept smiling!

Best of luck! Remember, your offspring will be so happy and proud that you are there, so hold the banner high!

room mom sm

In addition to coordinating parties, etc., the room moms at my daughter's school usually have some kind of a get together so that all the moms can get to know each other.  Also, it gives the room mom a chance to go over things that will be happening in the class.

Last year, we had a little "party" at the room mom's house with snacks, etc.  That was a great way to get to know the other moms.  The teacher usually meets with the room mom before the get together at the beginning of the school year.

The room mom also asks for volunteers for any party, field trip, etc.  We always have plenty of volunteers which makes the room mom's job a lot easier!

Hope that helps!

Too bad she's not in the same room with you
so you could ask her if there was something you could help her with so you could both get back to knocking out the reports.
got room in that bag for me too??? --nm

Agree! There's room for everyone. :) nm

chat room
On the main board, menu on the left says "chat". I have clicked on it several times and it always says no one in the room.
there is enough room on this board for a little bit of everything.

In AOL chat room.

Chat room
Just wondering why there is so few in chat room.  Whenever I go to chat, no one is there.
She is in our utility room, so she is out
of the rain.  We have a chest freezer in there which puts out heat.  We also have our hot water heater in there, which puts out heat and we also leave a light on for her, which generates some heat.  She has room to lay down and stretch a little, just not as much room as a big dog really needs.
Have radios in every room -- all do it. nm

Always room for improvement

I do agree that they have areas where they need to improve but I promise you that they are working hard at making changes for the better for the good of the MTs out there.  I'm sure I'm going to get slammed for coming to their defense (I can take it), but I just find it a bit hypocritical that so many people are so quick to bash them but yet don't hesitate to send folks to the organization when they need something such as the QA Document.

I probably shouldn't have jumped to conclusions (yes, I'm guilty), as I don't have any idea if those who posted above referring this person to AAMT are pro-AAMT or not.  But, still want to say hooray for seing SOMETHING positive being posted on this board about AAMT.  No, they are not perfect but they have achieved great things and greater things to come, I feel confident.

WAY better - now there's actually room on the stage...
for all the others!
Room mom anyone? I need some help/advice. sm
i have never been room mom but got elected somehow this year of being room mom.  Where do i start and what do i actually do other than help coordinate parties?  i got sent home a list today of all the students names that are in the class and my co-room mom's name.  do i contact the teacher and say what do i do or what?  HELP!!!!!  i have no clue............
Emergency Room
I type ER notes at my current job and I get the same thing.  I bet 90% of my reports are for sore throats.  I actually had one a few weeks ago for a cold!  Come on now people!  Everyone knows there is no cure for a cold!  That is why most of us cannot afford health insurance.  I had a couple bring a baby to the ER because it spit up during the night (just once).  Come on!  Babies do spit up.  Natural.  This happens.  Buy a baby book!
Have room just for my office
I have a really big house and not that many people so have my own comfy quarters. I have a television in the room and it is on all the time but not a distraction for me, rather just sound around and the news when I need it.
room where you transcribe
I am finding it difficult these past few days to focus. my computer is in my living room, off to a corner and I have a partitioner dividing my room as my living space downstairs is all open.  I live by myself so I really have no distraction.  I have a small dog who is really well behaved. My question is did anyone have any luck with moving their office to another room in trying to stay focus?  I have my upstairs where one room is empty but at the time I moved in I thought Imight feel too secluded being up there but now I am wondering maybe that is what I need.  Thanks. I am almost answering my own question as I am writing this!!
I use a separate room
I have a 2 bedroom place, hubby and I use the master room and I transcribe in the "office." This keeps me, for the most part, without distractions other than those I create myself. I set up a place for my cats to sleep so they don't sleep on the computer desk, and have found that this works the best for me...very short attention span when I tried it in the living room. Just don't move work into the bedroom you sleep in, might cause sleep problems.
chat room
anyone ever use MT stars chat room?  Just discovered it.
chat room

Hi,

Wondering if anyone wants to get together in the chat room.  LOL, that sounds a little scary.  No seriously, I am always looking to see if anyone is in the chat room and never a person there.  Anyone interested in meeting in there for some chatting?

Chat room
I would be interested, may be we could get a group together at a specific time and share experiences?

Chat room
Everyone agrees they want to chat, but no one sets a time/place. Rather than private e-mails, lets set a time here for all to see. Tonight would have been good for me, but no one else committed. Possibly if a time were posted here, as the time approached more would check in. Let's try it. Tomorrow night 01/01/2007, 7:00 EST?
Did't Know There Was a Chat Room!!

Chat room
Chat room is here. Click on "CHAT room" top right corner of the page. See ya there.
There's only so much room for the subject
Then you have to put it inside so it can be read.

In answer to your question, I think it depends on your bank. They actually have a timeframe before they HAVE to release it to your account. Could be a couple days. My bank's pretty good, and it's usually available right away.
How do you do MT from motel room?
nm
She said furnished room, usually sm
it's a room in someone's house and all utilities are included in rent.  If the house has internet, then that would be part of the rent she pays.
is it part of your job to be in a room sm
with a patient? Its not mine. Contrary to what some people think, MTs are not physicians but some sure act like it.
I believe you have to have a room dedicated - sm
as the home office for your work. My "office" is in the MBR so I have never deducted the home office part plus we kept talking about building/moving so I did not want to get into that mess with the IRS when we sold the house wtih depreciation and all that, but I do deduct everything else, a portion of our electric, heat, phone, internet, supplies, etc. If it is used for my IC job I write it off basically. I have receipts to back it all up and deduct about 33% of the electric and heating costs for business (8 hours a day worth), keep a spread sheet of the month electric and our propane costs and basically divide it by 3 at the end of year to get my figure for write-off. Have never had an issue doing it this way.
does anyone want to "chat"--there's never anyone in the chat room

any late niters have a few minutes to chat, let's pick a topic, any topic, meet me there.

--this one is kind of creepy, how it winks.

My greyhound sleeping on our bed - now there's no room for us --
