A4tech anti-RSI model KB(s)-8

Posted By: quick typing fingers on 2006-12-23
In Reply to: What is your favorite keyboard? I need a new one. NM - Susan

I've tried all the expensive ergonomic keyboards mentioned here in the past and never found one I liked. Back in the day, Keytronics made a great keyboard (some 15 or 20 years ago) but they aren't the same now. I've been using this A4tech anti-RSI KB(S)-8 for a couple of years and it is fantastic. I heard about it on another board and thought, how can it be that great when it's only $20? But it really is the best keyboard I've owned in 20 years. Plus you can program some of the keys to open programs or perform tasks, even keystrokes. The keyboard comes with a wrist rest, which is completely useless to me, but it comes off easily so that's not a problem.

A4Tech KBS8 Anti-RSI keyboard
I heard rave reviews about this "A shaped" keyboard layout and just ordered one. I never could get used to the split keyboards. Plus it was really cheap! With shipping, I paid a little over $19! It has 19 hot keys and is a multi-media. I'm hoping this is "the one." Anyone else use it?
She came around as an anti-Britney, anti-Christina bad girl a few years back
http://images.google.com/images?q=avil+lavigne&hl=en&lr=&sa=N&tab=ii&oi=imagest

and I like her music. At least it's really her music rather than some oversynthesized Britney crap. Christina can sing but she's too slutty. Avril is a nice in-between IMO. Hillary Duff is another person of that genre who actually has talent but doesn't act like a scumbag.
Which model
did you purchase? Did you get them at the Bose site? If so, they told me there is a 30-day time period in which you can return them if you are not satisfied. They are just too pricey if they don't get the job done!
Maybe it is just the particular model/brand
I have had I believe three Fantoms now (first one so heavy so bought second one years later, then ran over big screw and broke the bar on the bottom of the second one). I have the HEPA filters and have never had to do anything with them - not even change them as mine have a button that is suppose to pop up to tell you when it needs to be replaced. I have probably owned these over the past 10 years or more.

You are right, emptying the cannister can be a little messy - I do what you do and go outside, use a plastic grocery bag to empty it in (or better yet have husband do it) as I, too, have severe allergies.

If I had to choose though, I would still go bagless as I hated changing and buying the bags and once they got about half full you didn't get the suction like you do with an empty bag/cannister.

I am not familiar with the type you have where you have to clean the filter. Ugh.
I have an older model sm
Can't use it while I'm typing. If I crank the massage action up so that my back feels good, then there is too much vibration and I literally cannot focus on the monitor. I am not sure if the newer models are like this or not.
There's a quota of so many per each model for that
x
Well...get a late model

I would go to the different stores and website to find one that is new but last years model if you don't want Vista.  They are starting to be preinstalled.

Personally, I love my Gateway and they have all american customer service and tech support.   It is nice to call and talk to someone that can understand me the first time! They have been very prompt and understand that my system is important for work.  I have only had one minor issue which was probably me and not the computer.

Actually, I don't know if your model of footpedal is going to work or not.

IBM model M-15 split ergonomic
I bought one of these keyboards from www.clickykeyboards.com

Fully adjustable for any typing angles like Goldtouch, but much better key feel.

Priceless keyboard that I hope to use for next 20 years.
I can't remember the exact model, but.....
We go the one that would go into a waterbed frame (as that is what we have), but it wil also go onto a regular frame. We also got a king size(it is great. We also chose the dual chamber model (I don't think it is any more expensive) so that I can set my number and my husband can set his. We have a friend who only got the single chamber and when his wife gets in or out of bed the number isn't the same any more. So I would highly recommend the dual chamber if you share a bed. As far as the exact model number I can't remember...but with it having to fit into the waterbed frame and wanting a King there was only 1 model number to choose from and I think it was the 5000. Good luck...you will absolutely love this bed!
Thanks. I was looking at the Infinity USB VE-INUSB model
Just trying to convince myself that was what I should get.  It's nice to know I'm not the only one around on a Saturday night!  Thanks again.
Go online and put in your make and model.....
xx
I believe your foot pedal has to be a DVI model

Which model? Not all have lock keys. sm
I have a Logitech cordless that doesn't have lock keys. Did you try to Google your model to see if somebody else has had the same problem?
I was thinking along that line when there's no role model
Rich kids are raised by nannies, butlers, au pairs, tutors. Parents are hardly there to give them morals.  They learn from the streets and the streets are pretty skanky these days.
You're welcome. You can find Model M's on eBay

I think I'd go with clickykeyboards.com for their trustworthiness and service and all.  You can get some in the $35-40 range there.  (Check to be sure if it has a ps/2 connector, unless you have an AT/5-pin inlet on your computer.  You can buy an AT to ps/2 adaptor from them or at most office supply stores fairly easily, though.)

I think you'll be pleased.  Much as I liked my NMB, I wouldn't ever buy even a vintage/used one of those since I just don't think that model and brand has much longevity, apparently.

Belkin Ergonomic, Model # F8E208

If you Google it, you will come up with tons of places to buy it from.  I bought mine at Target for 30 bucks, well worth it and more.

does anyone know how to hook a Lanier model LX231(sm)
with the LX-231 adapter to the power supply and flat modem box?  I'm confused as to where all the cords go.  On the adapter there are three cords.  One says station (that I assume goes to the actual transcription box with the key pad on it), another cord that goes to the power supply and another that says it goes to the telephone line.  I'm not sure where all the cords go in relation to the modem.  Can anyone steer me in the right direction? TIA
What model is the unit? I used one a long time ago..sm
However, the doctors called into it to dictate. There was a hard drive with it that was connected to phone line. I would log in on the machine and pick up the jobs to transcribe. Is it similar to that? Or is this something else? There is also a Philips call-in station that hooks to phone line, but that's only for the docs to call and dictate.

How are you using the Philips to get work from your friend, that's what I don't understand? Does the friend have the same system? Just trying to figure out the setup and how to be more helpful. I know I once tried to use the Philips call-in to re-record dictation from a microcassette and it wouldn't recognize it and just timed out. It would only accept an actual voice, and that was using landline phone, so I think they do have certain parameters set up. It might be that the Vonage isn't compatible. Maybe you could call a Philips tech support person and ask. There's a tech number in the manual and on their website.

Hmm. I thought Unicomp made keyboards similar to the IBM Model M
That was the old clackity clack buckling spring keyboard.  You get a real IBM keyboard on ebay or clickykeyboards fairly cheap.  The key markings are part of the key itself and never wear out.  They are exceptionally NOISY though and you need a special USB converter to make it work with a USB connection.  The Omni is a mechanical keyswitch which I think is even better than the buckling spring,  just like the poster who posted about it.  Those key markings never wear out either.  Mechanical keyboards have a wonderful touch but they don't make very many any more.  Too expensive to produce and instead we have the $10-20 dollar rubber dome "quiet" keyboards that feel like typing on a wet sponge.   Some people though like that wet sponge feel but I think they are slower keyboards and harder to type on.  Just a preference even though they are noiser.  And for some it does not matter how spongy or squashy the keys are as long as the keyboard is quiet they are happy.  Different strokes I guess.
AVG anti-virus...

Ice and anti-inflammatories. SM

I had medial and lateral and it hurt like I don't know what.  I had to have the injection, instant relief of pain, but my arm was so weak.  I had to go to PT too.  They told me to do this:  Get a styrofoam cup (small one) and fill it up with water and freeze it.  Then you can just tear off paper and still have portion of cup to hold on to, and do an ice massage right there where it hurts so bad.  Stay on the anti-inflammatories.

What anti- anything are you running?

Kind of hard to know without more information.  What antispyware and antivirus programs are you running first off?  Have you defragmented your computer?  Have you run your updates?  That is why it is good to do the things it states in that tutorial, and yes, that is not the end-all site, of course.  Like I said, others may have better ideas and sites, programs, etc.  Sometimes, the companies we work with have us download software that our operating systems will not sustain well and make them unstable.  Just a thought.  Hope this helps.  Let me know.  Talk to guys tomorrow.

Not anti-AHDI but pro-US MTs
So, does anyone have any experience starting up groups such as this? Please contact me via email? I work full-time and then some - and don't have oodles of time, but my guess is we are all in this same boat (not having extra time). I would be willing to try to create something for us.

On a tangent - I really struggled over the years about the whole U.S. MTs versus "them." I truly believe we are such a melting pot and feel strong about not excluding anyone. I do not think the us VS them viewpoint is very positive. That being said, I do believe that one of the biggest problems in our economy today is that govt (both sides) let our jobs (of all kinds) go overseas so the corporations could make more money. This left Americans without jobs or having to retrain, etc. I have finally come to conclusion that I am not being exclusionary OR protectionist to want our government AND groups like AAMT to advocate for US first, for those of us who live here, create this economy, and who keep this country going.

In bringing up the idea of having a new group for MTs, I think it is important that we are FOR something (us) and not against something (AHDI, MTSOs, overseas MTs). This is only my opinion. Even though feel angry and disillusioned about what AHDI has allowed to happen, I prefer to find a more positive way to help ourselves. I'm not sure exactly what that is...but eventually it likely will require for us to be proactive and take steps.

Suggestions on how to get the tea party started? I'm willing if others are. Even if just a few of us brainstorming - the point is to set into motion something that gives us hope. Something that will eventually grow and help each other. MT Stars does this in its own way, by providing the avenue to be real and share the good and the not so great about our profession.

Please email me, let me know what you think. Or post here.

The tea party opens...

I certainly wouldn't let them be privy to that much info about me and neither should you.  You can do something about it.
Hmm, so is Easter anti-biblical?
The word "Easter" itself appears nowhere in the bible because its roots have nothing to do with Christianity:

Easter is a time of springtime festivals. In Christian countries Easter is celebrated as the religious holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the son of God. But the celebrations of Easter have many customs and legends that are pagan in origin and have nothing to do with Christianity. Scholars, accepting the derivation proposed by the 8th-century English scholar St. Bede, believe the name Easter is thought to come from the Scandinavian "Ostra" and the Teutonic "Ostern" or "Eastre," both Goddesses of mythology signifying spring and fertility whose festival was celebrated on the day of the vernal equinox. Traditions associated with the festival survive in the Easter rabbit, a symbol of fertility, and in colored easter eggs, originally painted with bright colors to represent the sunlight of spring, and used in Easter-egg rolling contests or given as gifts. The Christian celebration of Easter embodies a number of converging traditions with emphasis on the relation of Easter to the Jewish festival of Passover, or Pesach, from which is derived Pasch, another name used by Europeans for Easter. Passover is an important feast in the Jewish calendar which is celebrated for 8 days and commemorates the flight and freedom of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. The early Christians, many of whom were of Jewish origin, were brought up in the Hebrew tradition and regarded Easter as a new feature of the Passover festival, a commemoration of the advent of the Messiah as foretold by the prophets. (For more information please visit our Passover celebration - Passover on the Net). Easter is observed by the churches of the West on the first Sunday following the full moon that occurs on or following the spring equinox (March 2I). So Easter became a "movable" feast which can occur as early as March 22 or as late as April 25. Christian churches in the East which were closer to the birthplace of the new religion and in which old traditions were strong, observe Easter according to the date of the Passover festival.

Antiinflammatory/anti-inflammatories???
Is this correct.  I am getting different opinions and answers.  First BOS says not to a hyphen for both...second BOS says hyphen all but have had editors saying no hyphen for antiinflammatory and a hyphen for the plural.  HELP!
Has anyone tried Cymbalta? It is new anti-depressant

which I read speeds up a person - since I am soooo lethargic in my depression, not to mention the fact that in just under a year I have put on an enormous amount of weight (partly due to smoking cessation - I ate everything in site and then sat while working 70 hours a week, then, too tired to do anything much than the necessary).

Am age 48.  Am on Paxil now.  Thinking of going back on Prozac as it was a good med for me (I have low grade depression exacerbated by stress).

I wonder what the general concensus is on this new med.   Thank you very much

Atech4 anti-rsi keyboard (sm)
KBS-8 (not KB-8). Under $20 bucks. Has programmable keys above the function keys that are great to bring up dictionaries and other programs at the push of a button. Very, very responsive, not noisy, great touch. The "KBS" series keys are at an A angle, the "KB" series at the regular keyboard angle. I love the A angle. There's nothing I don't like about this keyboard and believe me, I've spent big money on the best a number of times over the past 20+ years and have been unhappy or not nearly as happy as I am with this one. Not an unhappy moment with this one. Hard not to try for under $20. Can I say more? :)
why is AHDI so anti American MT

they seem completely out of touch with MTs, as evidenced in my personal experience and from reading so many posts on this board alone.  I have never seen such misrepresentation of a profession...and they seem to have not even an inkling to bridge the gap; in fact, they seem to go out of their way to make the bridge even wider.

we need some representation on behalf of all MTs from the 'old school,' as we should be grandfathered in to any kind of mandatory certification, if it comes to that; but we definitely need an advocate on OUR side.

I see a lot of condescending remarks (and worse) from CMTs on this site against we "regular MTs" and it proves the point that there is a huge injustice going on with that organization and their disrespect of the 'little' guys here who are losing more and more money every year.  I just heard overall American wages have dropped from $7500 a year gained from the 1990s to 2000 lower to date, and dropping, which is over 9000 a year.  utilites are sky-rocketing, food prices, (need I go on?)...

now of ALL times to try to enforce any more financial hardship on MTs (while at the same time lowering costs for overseas MTs) not only shows complete lack of knowledge about the realities we face, but extreme disrespect toward us.

WE should be priority, not overseas MTs but US.

this is not a game people...this is serious, and no one should be able to mess with anyone else's livelihood in such ways as I have seen in this profession alone over the last decade especially.

anti-virus programs
AVG free was recommended to me by 3 friends of mine who work in the IT field and by the IT dept at both of companies I work for.

I run it, AdAware and Pest Patrol on a weekly basis.
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
User friendly and it seems to work well. I run it twice a week.

Hope that helps :-)

What is the best anti-virus program for Vista?
As you know if you have Vista, it has a pretty good security system built right in, the Windows firewall and Defender antispyware.  Is it necessary to go with a antivirus program with this system?  Have never had good luck with them.  Years back my computer crashed and it slowed it way down and actually brought more bad on board than did any good.  What is a good one that is cheap or free and uses very little system reserves?  I know this is kind of a technical question but any feedback would be appreciated.
Someone posted about a new anti-spyware program they had tested against several others - sm
and found it was better (or found more problems) than their existing programs.  My computer has been a bit weird/very slow the last day or two, ran my SpySweeper (no problems) but I thought I would try this other one.  However I cannot find the post.  Can you either post it again or email me?  Thanks.
I feel differently about the whole anti-Wal-Mart thing...
If you don't like them, don't shop there.  If enough people don't like them, they'll eventually wither away.  If the little mom and pop stores didn't charge so much, people wouldn't go to the big department stores instead.  It's called competition and capitalism, neither of which are illegal.  At one time there was an uproar over supermarkets?  Are you still shopping for your bread at the bakery, your meat at the butcher, and your fresh produce at the vegetable man store?  No, of course not, you go to the supermarket without any sorrow in your heart for the little grocer who was put out of business decades ago.
wrong. the virus protection and anti-spyware
are only as good as the updates and are NOT 100% all the time. NO program is 100%. Hackers are finding new ways to compromise computers every single day and no program can protect from all of them. The longer you are up and running, the more chance of being invaded. don't fool yourself into thinking antivirus and antispyware are fool proof, because they are not. You have to think smart and protect yourself too, by shutting down when not in use and allowing new updates to take effect. duh.
Any advice on the best anti-virus for home office??

I've got Norton 360 installed on my PC and kept getting a popup all day yesterday that said my PC was infected and that I should click "here" to download Personal Antivirus.  Yeah right!  I ran a Norton scan and it said my PC was clean, but this popup box came up over and over to the point, I had to call Dell because I couldn't download software from their site.

Anyway, I finally downloaded Malwarebytes (free version) and it found and removed 12 Trojans!!!

I'm definitely going to keep the Malwarebytes, but need a really good anti-virus.  I've done my research, but have read good and bad about all of them.  AVG 8.0 didn't have the good reviews that the 7.5 had, but I found out last night that AVG 8.5 is now out. Anyone use it?

Norton sucks!  As soon as I find a decent AV program, it's gonesky!

Thanks!

well being more anti-eric or cappy, i would prefer kaysar to come back but not to win.
I really would like Howie to win as he is the most entertaining. So cute and so funny.
Take a couple of muscle relaxers and anti-inflammatories, call
in sick to work, and GO TO BED!!!!  I was in a car accident years ago and still had to show up for work the next day.  I was miserable because it hurt so bad and I had to wear the soft collar.  Honestly, what other profession expects people to work anyways if they're sick or injured?  Cripes, even my old waitressing job let us take days off if we didn't abuse it.  That's not the case with MT.
try OTC cortisone anti-itch or Gold Bond cream first?

Great free anti-virus and antispyware programs...
Oh, also... you do need to make sure that you have a great antivirus and anti-spyware program running at all times on your computer. I personally use AVG free version antivirus and SpyBot Search and Destroy for spyware. Check with the repairman you just used for a reliable site to download these (or what he recommends you use) and instructions on how to run them. They have saved my behind numerous times since my crash. (Didn't have them before.)
LOL, maybe you should stop reading anti-Bush blogs because you're wrong.
