Amphion hires coders, too.
Don't know about the prospects of looking for a job.  I don't know how much you make doing transcription of what you consider similar.  I think coders probably start out in the mid-20s per year up to 40s with some experience.  There are not as many billing jobs at home as there are remote coding opportunities.  Hope that helps.
How exactly are coders from home paid?
I always wondered how this worked. Thanks!
plenty of coders work from home....nm

Its just an unwritten rule and common sense; you better home Amphion is not watching - sm
I am sure they can put 2+2 together and figure out who you are and withdrawal their offer if they so chose. It's just not good business to say who has what.
coders turned MT? Any of you out sm
there that went from coding to MT? OR, MTs who went into coding? Love coding, hate coding? Not much talk amongst coders anywhere. I just wonder what it is like and if it is worth considering.
Coders or billers?

Anyone have any info on billing and coding that would help me choose a school or program, also if there is opportunity to work from home?

Administrator- the billers/coders
link is not working. Has it been discontinued or will it be up later?
New coders have the same problem as new MTs....no experience, no job. nm

Maybe you would have better luck posting this on the coders board.
.
Please see the Billers & Coders board on the left.
There are many who may be able to help you there!

Because coding isn't as cut and dried as transcription is. Coders have to research a patient'

A doctor may say the patient has hypertension as a diagnosis, but the reality is there are a bunch of different codes for hypertension.  There is no such thing in coding as plain old hypertension.

Same with certain procedures.  There is a code for this procedure and a code for that procedure.  BUT if you do this procedure WITH that procedure, then there is a whole nother code for that.

In order to have coding fully automated you would have to have software that could scan a patient's eletronic medical record record and then decide which diagnosis of hypertension best meets this patient's history and then assign the correct code.  Plus with the enormous fines for medicare fraud and upcoding, no hospital is going to trust a computer to coding.  Coders will probably end up editing codes same as we edit transcription from VR.  Our jobs don't just disappear, they evolve.

Advance for Health Information Professionals. Mostly geared toward coders now. nm

My kids have suffered greatly from me working at home with them home. SM
I have been working at home as an MT since my two kids were born. They are now 4 and 5. In the first few years, I had no help whatsoever. Their father was a bum who didnt work or take care of them while I worked. Your children get neglected while you work basically. And babies and young children desperately need your attention while they are home with you.

My kids have so many behavioral problems right now because of their neglect. I would try to set them up with things to occupy themselves, like coloring or a movie, etc.

I finally put them in day care and things have improved, but there are still a lot of issues because of the damage that was done. They still try to seek attention by doing bad things and they dont listen to me because they are so used to me letting them get away with a lot of stuff because I was too busy typing to discipline them in their early years.

If I could do it all over again, I would definitely have put them into day care from the very beginning.

My advice would be to seek PT care for your baby. Maybe you can do some work around her schedule a little when she is home, like when she takes a nap, and then bang out a bunch of work while she is in day care.

I enjoy being alone at home, but I've got one home sick from school already.

One on one with a kid is nice, too.

This summer has been absolutely crazy.  I haven't had a moment to myself for three months because all of my kids were home traipsing their friends through the house and yard.  My husband switched his work schedule, too, so he's around more than usual.  However, I like not having to do two loads of dishes and four loads of laundry a day.  There are no toys or clutter dragged out everywhere.  I can clean the house first thing in the morning, and it stays clean until everyone gets home at night.

I even got to relax with a cup of coffee and watch TV for half an hour this morning, something I liked for a change instead of cartoons or kids' movies.  I signed up for an online class that I've been wanting to take.  I can exercise without being interrupted.  Yesterday, I went to the mall and spent all my saved up gift cards.  I got some clothes, books, bath stuff, and a new coffee mug.  My work gets done a lot faster, too.  Call me nuts, but I've never had the luxury of being alone in the house for 14 years.  It's kinda nice.  I love my family with all my heart, but I love having a few hours to myself each week, too.

Except now the cat and dogs have been acting weird since the kids went back to school.  They must think that I need someone or something to clean up after and correct behavior on.  They're getting into everything and racing around the house behind me.

my take is that she worked inhouse, not at home, and now wants to find out how to work at home. nm

Forget "per line." Your take-home pay should be taking home SM
roughly what it was before. If it is not, is it because your current pay rate for editing (which in many companies keeps changing as the VR system is developed) is too low or is it because your talents and skills are more for speed typing than speed editing?

If the first, discuss it with higherups, and go get a new job if you don't get the response you need. My last MTSO was secretly refiguring how production was counted to pay us less. I can accept hard reality, it was the secrecy that burned. Sometimes, though, it's just that the learning curves of individual editors and that of the system aren't in sync, and you end up temporarily making less.

If the second, though, recognize it as soon as possible and change to straight transcription work, in your company or a new one, for as long as you can find it.

As for why we aren't paid more for a higher skill, that's just the way the labor supply ball bounces. Best wishes.

The pay is a range from 7.4 to 8.5.  I know they have at least one account with good MEATY clinic notes!  Very nice co. to work for!

Can anyone give me info on this company, good or bad?  I just took their test.  Waiting to see what happens.  You can email me if you want.  Thanks in advance!
AMPHION
I just started with Amphion and they are awesome!!!!!
About Amphion, it is unfortunately
their practice to harp about working mandatory OT and then suddenly there is no work.  I will never work OT for them again  They always overhire, too!
amphion
thanks for that info... now i jus gotta wait and see if they call/email for an interview

thanks again
I would say Amphion. nm

Amphion

I was offered an interview at Amphion - does anyone know what this consists of?  Is it just basic questions?

TIA

Amphion
No - they are pretty detailed.
Amphion pay.

What does everyone think about Amphion's pay?  I was offered a job there.  It seems low?

TIA

amphion
I love Amphion. Have never worked for a better place. Everyone is very helpful and courteous.
amphion
Believe it or not, I make more now than I did at a really big national. I have really good accounts now too and that makes a difference in my line count. Also, they don't frown (too much) on overtime. Just my experience.
amphion
I don't mind the mandatory OT. For me it has never been a problem. I have great accounts and can average around 225-275 LPH even when I have to switch accounts. My supervisors have been nothing but accommodating to me and as I see (being a former manager myself) they deserve what they make and then some. I have been on early in the morning and late at night and my supervisor replies quickly if I have problems. I think, exAmphion, that it is time for you to move on if you are not happy. Amphion may not be a fit for everyone, but I am sure glad I found it.
Amphion does I know. nm

I just took a job with Amphion and was wondering if anyone else uses shorthand instead of EXText?  I like shorthand better and was wondering if it is okay to put it on my work computer?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Amphion!
Does anyone think the way Amphion does things is time consuming - AKA demos/looking up doctors constantly etc.?  There are many shortcuts they could use in my opinion.  Just curious!
Amphion and ESL's?

Can anyone currently working at Amphion tell me if they have a lot of ESL reports?  Just curious!

Thanks!

Almost never have an ESL for Amphion.
Can't even remember when the last time was.
Amphion and ESL's?
Do you type on a clinic or hospital account?
amphion
Amphion does not have a lot of ESLs, nor do they have a lot of work! They are over-hiring!!! We are sitting with no work. Rumor has it they have outsourced.
Amphion
Would anyone know if Amphion is a good company to work for?
My take on Amphion
I am a black female who took their online test. I have taken several MT tests and always do a 'select all' and copy and save the test in Word. I started this habit after one site froze on me in the middle of testing.

Anyway, after each screen I did the above and saved all of my answers. The first page asks you to provide your race...I did. After finishing the test and not hearing anything back, I called a few times before I reached the appropriate person. This person told me that they did not have an opening for my skill set at that time. I was certain that I did very well on the test. I asked this person if she could tell me if my score was less than adequate or what??? She said that they do not release the results of the test...just that they could not offer a position.

The next day, I had a girlfriend log on to their test site and put the very same answers I used and we also copied and pasted the typed dictation portion...everything was exactly the same except her race is 'caucasian'. They called her the very next day and offered her a position. I'm not making any declarative statement about Amphion...and am the last person to use the 'race card' issue. I found this to be quite interesting to say the least.

I need to know anything you can tell me about Amphion -- QUICK!
not just amphion
From the looks of this board, and my own personal accounts, things are slow just about all over! I pray it picks up soon!
Amphion does

Amphion does....
Amphion employees qualify for benefits whether they are PT or FT as long as you meet the line requirement for benefits.
Amphion

No but Amphion does.
It's a good place to work.
Amphion (sm)
seemed to be mainly progress notes (told 70% of their work is that), and they didn't need people much on eves or weekends, when I work. Why the recruiter didn't tell me all this, I dunno. Pay was very, very low for the progress report work. Strict schedule enforcement. And they make you pay to ship you the computer. Neither of the 2 checks I received was correct.
Amphion
What do we know about this company?  Thanks in advance.
Amphion sent us something. SM
We got our own CD copy of 2006 Quick Look Drug Reference that we can load on any computer! They also sent us a very nice letter and an Amphion note pad.

Anyone else getting tired of the mandatory 1 hour every day.  It is getting to be a bit much.  I do not want to get burned out again this summer.  Have to start thinking of other options I guess.  We need a break.  I know I should not complain as there are some of you out there with no work but every single day.  Last year it was 4 months in a row.  I refuse to do that again.
Amphion
Don't know of anyone who works there other than what I have heard indirectly.

Given them a call. Look up the number online.

Amphion offers mentoring programs.  Check it out, they're a great company.  Good luck in your MT career!
