Just got a new computer and when ordering it did not think about the ports (plus they were not mentioned anywhere in the ordering process from what I recall), there is no 9-pin or printer port  (though that does not matter as my newer printer is USB). But my foot pedal is a 9-pin and works well for all 3 of my PT jobs and associated different software and players. Just afraid that they won't work with a converter, guess I will find out for sure in a few days but thought I'd see if any one else had been through this already.

You can go on the net and find a free file converter to convert regular files to wav files that can be played on Express Scribe.
Then I think you save the files to that converter and choose what kind of file you want to convert it to. Then when it is saved in your documents, you can upload it to ES.

Unfortunately, I had to bite the proverbial bullet and buy a new computer, which came of course with Vista. One of my accounts uses dvf files and the sony plug-in for that for use with my gearplayer is of course not yet compatible with Vista. (sigh)
Does anyone know a good converter I could download to convert the dvf files to wav or dss and IS compatible with Vista?

I use a Dynex converter with no problems at all.
You might check out CompUSA if you have one near you that is still open, since they are having the big store closing clearance sales.

I know there is a cable with software, where you connect one to the old computer and one to the new computer and then you can just transfer everything on your old computer to your new one, only costs about 35.00, and I know www.worldstart.com sells them. They say it is the easiest and simplest way to transfer files or anything from one to another computer. Also, check your ports, if one does not work, then you have other choices to choose from to use on your computer. Good luck, hope this helps you.
Try using WinAmp. It has a file converter in it.
I've converted mp3 to .wav and they had a great sound! The multiple types of files are found under "encoding format." Hope this helps!
I just bought the opposite serial to usb converter. You would think they would have the other way
too.
I play dvf's with Express Scribe, you don't need a converter
and it's a free download for the Express Scribe voice file player. I think it's at www.nch.com.au
Do google search for Switch Sound File Converter...
and follow instructions - VERY easy!
