I haven't worked in-house for over 20 years and that's why. Everyone in the office talked and talked. I had no privacy to do my work. If someone got 'upset', then it went all over the business office and medical records. What a joke! I got paid hourly and quite well, but it wasn't worth the garbage I had to put up with. If the phone ran, they all sat there and acted as if it wasn't their place to get it. A part-time Transcriptionist would come in in the afternoon and have no work, because I had completed it all. So, I don't know what she did when I left. I would come back the next day with the keys greasy from her sitting and eating at the keyboard. You're right, if you say anything, which I did to the director, they get all nasty acting, which goes to show their immaturity anyway. The part-time girl even had the gall to ask my director what I was making, because she thought she should be making the same hourly rate that I was making, even though she rarely had any dictation. I'm sure all places aren't this irresponsible or tacky, but my experience was horrible. If there's any way to work at home for another company, you may at least have a peace of mind.
