CODEC

Check and see what codecs you have stored in your computer or which are defaulted.  If you don't have the one you need just go to Microsoft and download it.  It is free.  Or, if you have the codec, then make sure you convert the file he sends to the one your player and/or footpedal use.

You need the codec
Go to Microsoft and download the codec that you need to play the files.  That will be the .vox or .wav or whatever the file extension is on the CD that you were sent.  I am assuming you have a player or got software with you pedal.  If you didn't download Express Scribe for free.  Just Google for it.
Yes, I did download the codec,

but it still didn't work.  Maybe I'm doing it wrong.  I just clicked on it, it downloaded, I clicked open, it says it's installed, tried a .dss file, shows 00:00 duration, and then Express Scribe deletes it.  I don't get it.

I'm having my tech guy look for free conversion programs, but he hasn't found anything yet.

Have you tried to download the codec for .dss from their site?
I know you said Vista but you could try checking with them to see anyway.
Then you're missing the codec.
It will download automatically when you try to play the .dss files but you MUST be connected to the Internet for the download to occur. Therein could be your problem.
It is a codec error and that fix worked before for me, but not with the 4.16V. nm
