City folk who move to the country

Pardon me but I'm a little irked.

I live in a small quiet town, or what used to be a small and quiet town.  If you want to go to a big store, you better figure on driving for 20 minutes in one direction or 3 hours in any other direction.

We like it quiet, we grew up here. It's home.  We know the community.  We know our surroundings, wildlife, weather, all of it.

Then come those from the city to make their homes here.  It's nice that they can afford to buy the property above us in our little canyon and build the big fancy houses but... remember, this is a county road, not well maintained, very narrow, and lots of animals (wild and domestic) cross the road at any given time, day or night.

My kids get on and off the bus at the bottom of our driveway.  Every day, like clockwork, a herd of deer cross the road just a few feet away from the bus stop at 3:00.

One of our 4-5 new neighbors has a 17yo boy who drives up and down this road like a demon.  Actually, so do ALL of them.  They have absolutely no regard for others that have to share the road with them.

I was standing out on my porch today watching the deer cross and waiting for the bus to drop my kids off when this boy comes barreling up the road like nobody's business (speed limit is 35 and he was going probably 60 with snow and ice on the road.)

An unlucky deer crossed in front of him, right at the bottom of my drive way.  He stopped, kinda had to since there was deer all over his pretty new truck, and cussed a blue streak so loud I think everyone down town could probably hear him.  I sure heard every word.  He gets back into his truck then and continues up the road, not much slower than before either.

He left the dead deer carcass in my driveway.

Had it been anyone else, I would have called his parents and ask that he come clean up his mess from my driveway since my young kids will be getting off the bus any minute and I really don't want them having to see this gore but, last spring, this same kid intentially tried to run over one of my dogs.  I called his parents and asked them to please ask him to slow down going up and down the road since there are so many kids and animals.  They acted like I had accused them of killing someone.

So... I called the game warden instead and he came right over to assess the carnage.  He then called the police and the police went up to the kid's house.

Guess what... The city folk got a lesson in cleaning up guts and gore.  Police made boy and dad come clean up the mess and gave the boy a ticket but I don't know what the ticket was for.

So....

If any city dwellers decide to move to the country, it should be known that we mostly live on primitive roads.  They get plowed last, if at all, in the winter.  We have lots of animals roaming around to and fro across the roads, if we have more than a foot of snow overnight, the garbage men will still likely come on the right day so don't scream and yell because you thought it would be a day late because of the snow.  We do NOT have snow days for less than a foot of snow.  My yard is not your drive by garbage can and.....

We country folk know how to read and write too so we CAN and will take a plate number and turn it in to the police when we see you driving through private property, destroying said property, or speeding and you do NOT own the road.

As a matter of fact, that property up the road from us.... WE OWN the road and were nice enough to allow access to those property owners.  We also own the property on both sides of the road here too and the county has an easement through our property.

If we wanted to be really nasty we could fence our property up there where those new houses are and they wouldn't have a way in or out.  We wouldn't do that but we sure could.

I'm just really steamed right now.

I'm a city girl who moved to the country a year ago, and just want to tell you we're NOT all like that! Glad your game warden & cops did that!
My family & I respect our environment and animals (neighbor's pets and wild ones)& are upset to see garbage alongside the beautiful country roads! Even went out & cleaned it up a few times (by next day it was a mess again!). We have a teen boy on our street who drives like that, too....and he's always lived here in the country!
That kid who killed the deer & tried to hit your dog will get his..."what goes around comes around".
You think we stereotype that all country people are dumb...well, aren't you stereotyping that all city people are like that family?

What about us lowly folk...
at 6 cpl?  I managed $35,000 at that.

Hahahah! Are they good Italian folk? I LOVE me some garlic!!
I put garlic in practically everything, short of desserts!
I get it. But in return for supporting the small business the poor folk get nothing in return.
I understand why you don't shop at Walmart. You support those who support you but it doesn't work that way for me. I can go to an independent shop and by a dishwasher, pay lots more for it and get nothing in return to supplement my support of their small business. Same for all the poor folk who are shopping in Walmart trying to stretch a paycheck. I am glad Walmart exists for those folks.
There's a law in our city that you can't have more than
a certain number of pets in your yard or home.  Have the neighborhood band together and sign a petition or turn him in on every tiny infraction.  Get rid of the guy.  Take back your neighborhood.

What city is LCC out of? Do you know? (nm)

what are you trying to do, build another city...
please go down about four posts and see the one titled "It never fails to amaze me" and see what happened to that train of thought and the responses to the same.  You might get a clue to your answer.  Have a great day.
It's certainly UNBELIEVABLE that they'd do this the city, but
I guess I don't know enough to understand why? What could the government of NY had done to prevent this? What were the grievances? I really think we need to blame the right people here, so hopefully someone will be able to share more info on why this happened.
Kansas City, MO Thanks! nm
nm
Why does everyone think Kansas City, MO is
Kansas City, Kansas as well, but for the most part when you hear KANSAS CITY it is referring to Missouri.  The Kansas City Chiefs are in MISSOURI, not Kansas.  Downtown Kansas City (the one you hear about) is in MISSOURI, not Kansas.
Those City folks

I can really relate to your situation and wanted to tell you this story.

I live at the base of a mountain.  There is an RV place out here and every winter the hunters camp and .....leave aggrevation everywhere (garbage).

Yesterday i drove the 15 miles to town to the post office where they know everyone by name.  I was packaging my book to mail and was listening to this conversation:  A gentleman handed a change of address form to the Postmaster. He says," You just moved in that new house on the hill last fall.  Is everything okay"?

Naturally everyone looks that direction.  The gentleman says " We don't like that housing developement on the hill.  There is way too much snow".

Continuing with his story:  My wife had the kids were in the SUV and the road was covered with snow and ice. (duh, it is all winter long).  She had to stop because of the herd of Elk standing on the hill in the middle of the road.  She slid back down the hill and wouldn't drive up again until I came home from work".

So i have asked my husband for a snow maker!!!!!! Maybe they will all move back to the city.  At the base of this hill, a herd of Elk always graze in the field.  There have been many occassions i drive the grandkids that direction to watch.  The 3-year-old asks to me take him to see the funny cows.

So if anyone has a spare Snowmaker please send it to me.....I would love to drive the rest of the city folk out of there!!

How do I reach them? What city are they in? Do sm
you work for them?
If within city limits, you will.
I at one time ran an ad in Yellow pages with my last name and then "Typing Service" as I was trying to get students and those needing resumes. The city called me and told me I needed a business license. It is a small percentage of the gross annual income. Then, you can display it. They also want to know if there is incoming and outgoing people, whether I would be selling a product or if it was a service and whether it will be in your home and if so, would there be traffic coming and going. I did not contact my insurance company but probably should have...(I had very little business lol).
HA, I always thought her name was the city she was from!!!!
silly to have to point that out about yourself!
I'm in AL, too! Phenix City. nm

Hey Forrest City (sm)
I grew up close to there and attended high school at FCHS.  Wonder if we knew each other?
Do you mind if I ask what city...

you are working in?  I live in TN and all of the jobs I have seen advertised pay under $13 per hour.  I had no idea the hospitals here pay that much.

RE: Do you mind if I ask what city...
Memphis.
Depends on your city

I was first told no and now have been told that yes I do.  So check with your city and they will let you know.  You are running a business just as any building contractor, consultant, painter, plumber, etc. and so they are making us do this more and more.  You usually pay a percentage of your earnings.  But since we have no foot traffic I did not have to get the approval of my neigbors for the business.    This is in Portland, OR.

I guess they don't have the public voting ready yet. It should be ready tomorrow. I will keep you posted.  Thanks on the hair color. My stylist thanks you too. I can honestly say it WAS my natural color when I was 10
Y-City Star
I definitely will keep you all posted.  You should be able to hear a 90-second audition clip tomorrow. The first show will be July 15th and the second July 29th. The first 20 will be narrowed down to 8 and then the winner.  This is a lot of fun and I am definitely singing for "All the Girls" I was never one to get up in front of people and talk much less sing. Finally got the courage.  THANKS FOR THE VOTES!!
Is that the wendy city??
NM
I believe that would be TNI, LLC, a company, not a city. nm

How would the city or your neighbors know
you supposedly ran a business out of your home. Do you have employees, a parking lot at your home to have the employees park there, overhead including insurance to cover disability in case 1 of the employees has an accident on the job. First of all, no neighbor of mine knows I have a business (if you want to call it that, I don't) but secondly if someone from the city came by asking questions the answer would be I don't know. In fact I had the city to come by 1 time to inquire about work I had done inside my house, told me they needed to come in and I said no to them. Never heard another word about that. I do not know what kind of work the person on the right or left does, oh I do know 1 lady said she works for IRS and that is that. She might have a zoo in her home for all I know. I would never think about putting myself on the line to say I need license. Bunch of crock.
This country has....
more safety nets than almost anywhere else on earth.  There are food stamps, WIC, food pantries, missions, churches, etc.  I don't believe there are policies in place to purposely make sure children go to bed hungry.  There MUST be some personal responsibility here.  I don't hear much out of you along that line, just blame. CEOs, big corporations, blah blah blah
what right do we have to tell another country what to do?
x
What Country do you come from?
You don't sound like you come from the USA.
Isn't this the same country that
our young men gave their lives for back in the 60s and early 70s, in order to fight communism, and now is a communist country? These greedy companies would send work to a Taliban country if they thought they could save a buck! They are causing the downfall of the USA.
in Ohio, don't remember the city though and right
now the name of the company escapes me.  I do know that there is a company with the same name that advertises here, but they are in NJ I think.
Thank you for the info--what city in California?
That isn't as good as I'd expect.
and he as mayor of that city had no responsibility at all?
Such convoluted logic. Believe me, he's doing a great job of pointing the finger of blame and ducking responsibility on his own without any help from you.
Have you taken a course? Do you live in a town/city that - sm
maybe you could get some PRN work or part time work to get your resume started?

rude city people
I hear you....twice in the past couple of months I have caught two different SUVs driving through the brush our our very well posted private property.  Apparently, they see our property as an off road play land.  It certainly is frustrating.  I hope they put some scratches in their pretty city SUVs.  Wishing for a fence and electric gate or a moat and alligators.
Thanks for the info. I'm looking in Bryson City

Check with state and city

Portland has just decided to require all all I/C's have a business license.  Also check with your state to register your business name so you can put it on your checking account, etc.  It does cost but if you are a business and run it as a business you pay the the business costs as well as reaping the awards of the tax write off's.  But you need to check with your state and city for requirements.

Y-City Star questions
I didn't see where we could listen or vote. I did find a picture of you though--you have very pretty color hair. Looks like you were putting your all into it. Good Luck!
Y-CITY STAR video is up

www.whiznews.com/ycitystar.php  Here's the link. Look for my name and then video. PLEASE VOTE. I AM STILL BEHIND. YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!!

Yes. I got my adapter from Circuit City.
There may be other places where you can get an adapter.  Try Radioshack also.
IF you will google either city you'll get

info as far as population, temperatures, etc.  Charlotte is a big financial center, also called the "Queen" city.   I don't currently live in Raleigh but did for 2 years and we really liked it.   Traffic is a bear, but people are friendly and tons of things to do.  There are 2 major teaching hospitals about 45 minutes away.  Lots of walking trails.    Cary is outside of Raleigh and that is a pretty nice place too.  It isn't quite the hustle and bustle of Raleigh, but is growing rapidly.   I would not live in Durham for anything.   If you've heard about the Duke rape trial you might understand.  Huge racial problems there.

With Charlotte you are close to the SC border.   Charlotte also has lots of traffic.   My sister used to live there and I would visit but don't know much about the social scene there.

Any experienced Kansas City MTs here

I need two MTs, clinic work, each for an average 500 to 1000 lines a day Monday through Friday, but usually around 700 to 800 lines.  Would like MTs who are really experienced and can turn in work ready to go to the client.  If interested, email me and we can discuss the work, pay, etc.

MUST have C-phone and you could start as early as Monday if you like!
