One thing to watch for. There are a lot of
phony e-mails circulating that your paypal account has "fradulent" activity and you need to update your info. DO NOT DO IT. They are not from paypal. If you are not certain it is from them, you can forward the email to them and they will let you know if it is legit or not.
Symptomatic treatment is the only thing you can do, and watch for

If you could share one thing that made you more productive

Check out same thing made by Koss. It is $19.95

Sickest thing, I made more money my first year as MT as I do now, for working
zz
LOVE ER!!! I watch the re-runs every day, and watch the new ones on Thursday night!!

It's rough out here sometimes. But just because you sm
left a lot of blanks in one report doesn't mean you don't have a chance at a job.  The company may have tiers they are testing for, or may be checking to see if you would guess.  Keep plugging, and something will turn up.  Experienced workers are always needed.  You'll find your place.  Best of luck to you.  (PS:  Treat yourself to something inexpensive but nice; you deserve it and it will keep your spirits up.)
I hate to say it, but it's rough. sm

My niece graduated from MT school early, top of her class, high honors. She thought she was all set, but couldn't find anything.  No one would hire her without experience.  She's still looking and I think she found a small account somewhere with an outrageous pay rate of around 5 cents a line.

It's unfortunate that these schools make it look like it's so easy.

I'm not saying don't go for it if that's what you want to do, but it sometimes takes years before you start making any money.

Good luck

Rough estimate.
I work approximately 5-6 hours a day five days a week and then at least 2 hours on Sundays. I can expect to bring in anywhere from 600-800 dollars every two weeks. There are so many variables to take in to this though. How fast you type, how much you make per line (7.40 for me). Good luck! This is not an easy job to get into, so just make sure it is really what you want to do...If you have any questions please feel free to email me.
It's rough. I have a niece who's having trouble. sm

The sad part about being a newbie is all the hype the MT schools throw at you about "You can work at home!  You can make $40,000 a year!, blah, blah, blah!"

I have a niece going through the same thing.  She paid for school, graduated with top honors and couldn't find a thing for months.

What a lot of the MT schools don't tell you is about the real world. The big companies are looking for turnaround time and making money. "Newbies" (and by the way I hate that word) are a risk.

I just started working at home after 15 years in the medical field, but had to start  as a receptionist after spending 8 years as a legal secretary/paralegal. It didn't take long for the docs to realize that I could spell and I could type and I offered to try and type their reports. With a lot of help from the docs I found I loved doing MT. I took on a part-time MT at home job at nights 1 1/2 years ago for a local person, took a medical terminology class and then took the "plunge."

So anyway, (sorry to go on so long), my advice to you is to try to find something locally, if you can, even just signing patients in at a local hospital part time and offer your MT knowledge and typing ability to human resources.  Once you have even 6 months of experience, I'm sure you will be taken more seriously.

My niece did eventually find part time work and is working at home, but she's getting paid 5 cents a line.

Best of luck to you.

Oh my ... you have it rough. I don't think I even know how to cook without onions! sm
For my meatloaf, I use salsa too, plus hamburger, hot Jimmy Dean sausage, breadcrumbs, & egg.  Heck, this is making me hungry for meatloaf now!  :-)
Thanks, it has been a rough 2005 for many reasons - sm
but Jen is doing well now. Her hair grew back quick (3 different colors currently, quite interesting), looks like a little elf now and everyone thinks she is so cute (those that don't think she is a boy, get that a lot now since her hair is so short). Almost 10 months cancer-free so far and things look very good for her. She looks so different and healthy now that she is done chemo. Her 6th birthday present will probably be being told her Port-A-Cath is coming out--Dr. appt. day before her birthday, due to come out a year or so after the initial surgery. But I am so thrilled that she was eligible for a wish. She got exactly what she wanted and it was a trip of a lifetime I don't think any of us will ever forget. I am very grateful to everyone who contributes to Make-A-Wish, it is really amazing what they do for sick kids and their families. I hope everyone here had a good 2006!
Yeah, it would be rough cancelling your cable
this time of year. Just think, then you would be stuck with only the networks to watch if you put in some rabbit ears. Not fun. I did that once last year. It gave me a good excuse to read more, but eventually I got sick of having nothing to watch and got satellite.
Lucky thing for me my MD is in the office tomorrow morning, so I made an appointment for tomorrow.

If it is strep, I'll have her give me a shot of penicillin.  That's what I usually do for strep.  My stomach can't hardly handle taking antibiotics.  I end up with vomiting and diarrhea which makes me feel even worse!

Thing is, I work for a hospital and we already have one girl off indefinitely for medical reasons.  A couple of ladies didn't log on until late today because we had thunderstorms in the area.  And we are way, WAY out of TAT for OPs and Discharges.  So, I feel kind of bad taking a sick day.  My supervisor is so stressed.  She's been begging us to work OT for the last couple of weeks.  How can I call her and tell her I'm sick?

I'm halfway through my shift anyway.  I'll be all right.  The Motrin is really helping and then I can take it easy all weekend.

Thanks for listening.

And it's rough work dangit. First job, large hospital,
drives me nuts sometimes. Sorry, just felt like throwing that out there! ;)
Can y'all give me a rough estimate on how many lines per hour you can do with SR...sm
speech recognition? I crunched some numbers today, and I can only do 300 per hour. I think I might tapped out. Is that good, average, bad? I don't have anything to compare it to, so not sure where I stack up. Any info would be great. Thanks guys!
i made $15/hr before and didn't stay long because i made so much more on production. sm
that was with full benes too. i wouldn't do it for less than $20, but i think even with $20, i'd want benes. are you in-house?
I don't know how it made such a small diff in your invoice... made a $100 diff in mine! (sm)

If it were only adding up to three bucks, I wouldn't sweat it. $100? Yeah, that's baseball registration for my son for this year. I am not giving tabs, returns, etc. away free when it adds up to that much difference!  Why should I charge less for a Return than I would for a"K"?

Ebonics: Not a black thing or white thing. (sm)

I don't think there's any cause to get upset or defensive here.  Look it up on line...even colleges are offering courses in Ebonics!  ...well of course they are more sociology-type courses, but still, people are PAYING to learn about the why's and how's of this "other" language.

A quote from one of the sites I found:

"UT-Austin's "Introduction to the Study of African American English," teaches students that the sentence, "Nobody didn't leave" is not "mainstream English with mistakes," but rather a legitimate English dialect. "Ebonics: Myth and Facts" and "African-American English" are both offered at Harvard. Penn and UCLA also promote Ebonics as a legitimate dialect in, "Introduction to African American and Latino English" and "Afro-American Sociolinguistics: Black English," respectively."

Will have to watch for it
half the time I don't pay attention
I don't watch TV much, but I certainly
would never watch anything about Bobby Brown.  I don't know what it is with these people who think anyone cares about their lives.  They are just trying to feed their already overinflated egos.
I don't get to watch TV any more.
Chained to my desk and overstressed.  I can't wait for summer to be over.  Plus, I got up sick this morning.
Me too! Watch all of them...
as well as the Discovery Health Channel, Animal Planet, and Style Network. The man who narrates on many of the A&E shows, Bill Kurtis, has such as soothing voice that I watch it at night when I need to fall asleep! I believe he is also the producer of some of the shows.
We don't watch TV much at all any more.
I hate reality shows, talk shows, soaps, crime shows, graphic content, and all that garbage.  Even the evening sitcoms are all rated TV14 with excessive amounts of sex, alternative lifestyles, gender bashing, adult situations and language.  The rest of the world can watch whatever trash they want to, but I'm not inviting it into my home in front of my children.  I'm not prejudiced either, but I don't agree with how rude sitcom families are.  The kids are all mouthy brats, the wife bashes the husband or vice versa.  It's not an accurate portrayal of true family life.
watch out
Read the Terms and Conditions of the different unlimited plans carefully.  Most will start monitoring you after 5000 minutes a month and some specifically forbid it for MT (even the small business plans).  The only thing I have found that doesn't have specific minute limitations is VoIP.
i DID WATCH IT

I was just curious how the nonskaters were going to do.  It was fun to watch.   I don't think it is going to be as big as dancing with the stars.  I don't watch that reality show anyway.

Does anyone watch Y&R? sm

For those who do, what do you think about Nick and Phyllis, and Victoria and Brad...

First off, didn't Jack (Phyllis' husband) used to be Nick's stepdad?

And didn't Brad (Victoria's fiance) used to be married or engaged to her mom?

I'm sorry, I know it's a soap and all, but that is just sick! I just started watching it again after about 4-5 years, and it's funny how little things have actually changed....

Or like looking at your watch and then having to look again
LOL
no, but I do watch CMT.....nm

watch what you say here
I put a similar criticism on this board recently and was told that if I had a complaint to take it to the admin, and not place it on board. Negitivity was cited. talk about censorship!
I did not watch. I won't watch again now that
are boring, IMO. Taylor is no AI, if you ask me, but he'll end up winning because for some odd reason, everyone likes this guy (who I heard is a real jerk in person from someone who actually met him). I've seen people at our local karaoke night who can sing better than he can and, as an added bonus, they don't look like they are having seizures while they sing.

I'm actually glad Chris got sent home and out from under the AI curse. Aside from Kelly Clarkson, the only one America got right, the winners don't seem to go on to do a whole lot of anything. I mean, come on! Ruben and Fantasia who? Bo's at the top of the charts, Clay went on to have a couple of hits, and where are the actual AI winners?
We should watch for any
call-in shows that have senators or congressmen on them. Wouldn't that be great to be able to ask them questions about why the American public is being ignored on the issue of offshoring. I'm not good on the fly, so I'd have to have so questions thought out and written down to sound at all intelligent, LOL. I would try to be very specific so they couldn't weasel out of the question.
I mean Watch out (not what)
nm
What you should watch for
are companies that want you to buy special software or equipment from them at significant expense so that they can train you with the promise that as soon as you are up to par, you will be hired. Odds are, you will never be "up to par" and will never be paid for your work while they get those reports done for free.

I had a job before that would watch you - sm
on via IM. I figured out how to have it on, but have it so they could not watch me (this was a few years ago, before you could set yourself up as invisible if you wanted to be). I hated the feeling that they were hovering over my shoulder during my set hours (yes I was an employee), and was used to being an IC. They were pretty good about it and did not hassle you but you had to be on IM while working so they could easily get in touch with you. I forgot a lot to turn it on....I eventually left them and now have an IC job that uses IM too, but I dont' have the same feeling with them, and I only use it really to talk to another MT who works on the same account as I do. The MTSO leaves me alone for the most part and that makes me happy.
Better Watch it!!!
My husband was in your same shoes 10 years ago... Very healthy, former marathon runner, never had insurance in his life...When we met, I said,"No way." His policy was free where he worked so he got it (BCBS)... When in May of 2003 he found a lump..turned out to be lymhoma... When I saw the first bill the hospital sent, I almost died...$125,000... But it was covered by BCBS.. all we paid was the out of pocket max for the year... Yes insurance is definitely worth it.....

But you sure have to watch your back.
l
Just watch reruns to get the fix. I already have
Also another similar kind of dark humor is on Nip/Tuck but I never seem to find it!
Well, I did watch it last night
I thought sure it was going to be Claire.   Can't imagine what they could do for the finale.  They've already done it all.  I hope they don't kill anyone else off.  Nate sure did leave a mess, like you say.  Makes you think about yourself and not wanting to leave such a mess when you go yourself.  Maybe I'm just being maudlin, huh?  Anyway can't wait for next week.  Really got kinda nervous, though watching Brenda and Billy.  Glad it was just a dream - whew!
No, ALL little boys don't do that. Watch your
Yes, I have a son.
WATCH YOUR BACK
Trust me, if you are getting paid 18 cents per line, you are sticking out like a sore thumb! That immediately puts you under a microscope at some point. I have been in business many years and if you are an exception to the rule, surely you are marked. THIS IS NOT A NEGATIVE POST. You must keep in mind the climate of the healthcare industry right now as a whole, your current CEO and CFO of the hospital - are they new, have they been there long? When does their contract come up for renewal? A change of hands in administration is all it takes to knock out any security you might feel. A change in the Medical Records department could change things quickly also. My advice, if I may? Be creative - work your 18 cents a line to keep the client interested. Offer perks, maybe some % discount for quick payment, or sosmething for loyalty, some type of support added to your services such as cumulative logs of info data per month for their review - not hard to do in Microsoft Office programs. I've been through many, many situations with hospitals. Good for you for getting that much per line. I'm always happy to hear of any one's success and my prayers that you continue as such for a long time.
Watch your mail........
Try some saline spray. A doc one time told me to try this. He did this 'cause he would get so sick with some of the perfume on mailings....those dept store inserts.
I don't usually watch TV, but Christmas

night I saw part of Grey's Anatomy and I loved it.    Can someone fill me in on what is or was going on with the black doctor and the Asian-looking doctor?

I used to watch ER years ago, then it was Chicago Hope.  ER now isn't what it used to be.  Of course before all these shows there was Emergency.

Watch those expansions for BM
She had a large, foul-smelling black male overnight with massive bleeding.
Do you watch TV while you work? nm
x
HBO is the only reason I watch TV..LOL..nm
x
DH is a HUGE fan! I watch only for him.
x
Does anyone else still love to watch ER?
I know a lot of people who say they don't like it anymore with Green, Ross and the other oldies gone.  I still think it is just as good.  It is the only show I have watched that new characters just seem to flow in so smoothly.  I watched it from the very beginning and still never miss an episode.
I don't watch it anymore, but...
watched it today and bawled like I did the first time when Dr. Green's father died and then bawled all over again when Carol and Doug were reunited.
I don't even watch anymore
I used to be a huge Idol fan; however, this season they have lost me. The show is boring and does not keep my attention. I am pulling for Chris to win, even though I don't watch because I live in Greensboro, NC and he is from McLeansville. I went to high school in McLeansville and knew his family. He is a really great guy and I think he is wonderfully talented. I hear updates on the radio and see them on the local news every now and then and that is enough for me. I still think the best season by far was the very first one when Kelly Clarkson won. I am a huge fan of hers and she has been the most successful yet. We shall see what happens with the rest of them.
I don't watch the show, but I saw it on CNN
Sometimes I "watch" TV while I work (sound down). I happened to glance at the TV when they were replaying that clip. That kid's expression was totally awesome... better than Christmas morning!
