Drinking

In Reply to: What's up with the alcohol? - tipping my had to you

Just a few weeks ago our son went to a party and when we called the house, the father was drunk and some teenage girl got on the phone and pretended to be the mother.  Needless to say, he was told he had 10 minutes to be home and he was really POed and there was a big fuss up in our house.  Yesterday on the news there was a story about a mother serving alcohol to minors and there were arrests made.   Guess what, these were the same people we called our son home from.  I am soooo happy about this.  They got what they deserved and I hope that some of the other parents in our town got the message.

drinking...

You seriously think you kid is going to tell you that he is drinking?  Very, very few kids get out of junior high these days without having smoked pot and had some alcohol at the least.  Any parent who isn't aware of that has his/her head in the sand.  Waiting until college to drink is extremely rare.

BTW, go to a a teen AA meeting - they'll tell you that many of them started drinking when they were in 2nd or 3rd grade.  Parents are the easiest people in the world for kids to fool - the kids will tell you that.

Drinking one right now at 7:30 pm...
usually about 10 mugs a day :)

It does sound like your BIL needs to get into detox and not just counseling. Alcoholism is a disease and as long as anyone enables him he will continue. Oh yes, they are very sorry, apologize, cry, feel very badly. But, in the long run they need help. He is probably also depressed from his fall/brain surgery. I would suggest seeking out a detox center/rehab center program. I know, I have been married to a recovering alcoholic for 25 years now, who has been clean and sober for 23 years. It truly is a rough road. I stopped enabling my husband and he finally got "the program.' Good luck, the main thing is protecting your sister in law and the children and getting your brother in law the program he needs. He may not get it the first time, but if everyone stops enabling him, he just might. I feel for you as I do truly know what drinking does to a family and my prayers are with you all.

ranting with drinking will only go into abuse usually & you do NOT want to go through this nor do your children deserve to...contact your local YWCA on their Women helping Women programs. My prayers for some peace for you
Yes along with drinking my pot of coffee! nm

I'm not a working MT yet, but I don't see anything wrong with having a drink after work. During work is a different story, that in my eyes is the equivalent to a bus driver boozing it up before his/her shift.
Drinking and Transcribing sm

Someone's life is placed in my hands when I sit down to transcribe. One letter out of the way such as an "a" could change the meaning of someone's medical diagnosis. One slip of a wrong medication or dosage and the patient could die. We all know when docs get used to us getting things right, they don't even read what they sign. One pass-over of a word that we don't want to take the time to look up could kill a patient. Don't tell me to lighten up, please. That's your excuse! I have had an anaphylactic reaction to a medication. If someone decided to skip over this or whatever  - I could die, yes, DIE! I would no more drink and transcribe than play Russian roulette with an infant. Sorry, it's probably what you don't want to hear, but I would not want you NEAR my medical history. I once had a student skip over an allergic reaction and instead of looking up the name of it she just typed "the dye". When I caught her on it, she shrugged her shoulders as if it didn't mean a thing. She just wanted to get her line count in, looking things up took away from her $$$.

Please take me seriously, it's worse than drinking and driving. It's a serious, serious thing to do. Alcohol definitely affects judgement and makes you sloppy. Slop and medical transcription do not go together. I don't want to kill anyone tonight, do you? If you want to drink, that's your business, but don't drink and type someone's medical record! Don't bother responding for me to "lighten up" because anyone with half a brain knows I'm right! If you drink constantly, then you're still "drunk" when you get up in the morning, coffee does NOT sober you up. That's BS.

Put the plug in the jug!

About drinking coffee....

I gave up caffeine a few years ago.  I used to drink 8 to 10 LARGE mugs of coffee a day but gave it up.

The bad part about being caffeine free was waking up in the morning and thinking "This is as good as I am going to feel all day long."

But....I got used to it.

Yeah, I've been drinking a lot too lately,
coincidentally since 1/1.  Oh, you mean coffee... Well that too!
oh ok - and legalized alcohol drinking....N/M
.
You and your kids need to get out, permanently, BEFORE he gets physical from the drinking. nm
,
Gambling, excessive drinking, working too much, etc.
These are all unfaithful if they take time away from those to whom you are committed.

So I'm addicted.....what's the big deal??? But **I*** have never been drunk while at work! I am completely in control of all that needs to be in control for MT work.  You see, we all have our crutches. Some smoke. Coffee is a big time popular drink, don't you think?  Some like to sip wine. Others just have to have rum and Coke.  And, still others will drink Bud Light cause it less filling!  My addiction that I have happily supported all  these years and will for many years to come is Yummy Pepsi!

Do you have to be snockered to understand that message, I should take up drinking again!! NM

Yep, the drinking is exacerbating it. Causes a person to ruminate. I feel your pain.
