EMR's

I have worked on two different systems, one was Practice Partner and the other one I cannot remember and still working on this second one.   Both I typed directly into the patient's note.  You open it up and just type.  Each program is set up differently but easy to learn.  The problem with this one I am currently typing into is that it does not have a spell check and so talk about going back to the manual typewriter.  I second guess myself a lot, especially on drugs as I have so many in my expander, etc.  But it has taught me to be careful, slow down and to reuse my brain -- that is for sure.  But only 3 out of 7 doctors use a Transcriptionist in this system now and I am not sure that I will be there much longer.  I picked it up as an extra way to make money to build up my savings as I am remodeling and want hardware floors in my house.   I have one IM doctor and 2 GI but only the IM uses the EMR.  The GI's do not and since one is 80+ and still practicing am not sure how long that will go one.  Again, I took it hoping it would only last for a year and bring me in that extra money.  But with EMR's unless they allow up to hook up from home, you have to go in there to type into the EMR directly or type at home, send it to a computer and transfer over into the EMR.  Neither place has allowed me off site access and I don't blame them as I would not want to take the chance of something happening and because I had access to the records it could have been me.

Good luck.
