You were given a test of actual dictation.  If you passed, you were hired, if you didn't pass, you weren't hired.  Trainees were hired as trainees and qualified MTs were in short supply.  The only Q.A. in the good old days was the doctor and/or hospital.  It was just a given that MTs were qualified and didn't need anyone else riding herd on them.  There were no MT schools, there was no AAMT and no conglomerates (sp?).  Ah....for the good old days.
