I live in British Columbia, Canada, and we recently had a big case in Vancouver were there was a man who had started a company, posted many ads looking for employees or offering job placement assistance and it was all a ploy to obtain personal information and use if for identy theft.  Especially because when you are applying for a job you may need to give you Social Insurance Number (if you a Canadian) or your Social Security Number (if you are American).  They have everything they need then to steal you identity.
