Getting into QA

I am sure QA has it's downfalls but for those of us getting tired of straight MTing and would like to pursue this course could you offer advice as how to get into QA, as the original poster asked? What is the best way to move up to QA positions? Which companies will take a chance on  novice QA with only previous MT experience? How many years MT experience and what qualifications are employers looking for QA personnel? Are there companies that will still pay hourly wages? Thanks so much.  Feel free to contact off board as well.
