Now, back to work. :)
We got pizza delivered.
Church group tonight.
Could you have lunch delivered for
the staff one day? I'm not suggesting anything too pricey, but something they all enjoy. A donation in their name to an animal rescue in your area might be appreciated as well. Congratulations on your puppies!
Gevalia - its the best and delivered to my door
monthly by the UPS guy! Amaretto is the best and regular is #2. Great coffee and prices are better than buying premium in the supermarket. Keeps me going...
If MT has checked off list of reports delivered,

Need to prepare -- Anyone out working at home delivered by C-section? I know they say 6 weeks to
recover and get back into an 8-hour day job routine, but did anyone come back sooner because they worked at home and were able to rest more and space out your work time?
You could have a bigger gift delivered to their home, too, and just put a note in the card. How

Well, that's a step in the right direction!!!
Level the playing field a bit!

Thx for sharing!

steering your son in the right direction
See, just the fact that the person interviewing him noticed and actually commented on his outfit says a lot. He has already made a good impression even before his first day. And, yes, orientation means that he definitely got the job! I remember I used to work at Kmart when I was 17 and I loved it. Not only can he just be satisfied with doing a good job, but they can give him better positions if he keeps making such a good impression. Standing out is what it takes and he has alraedy presented himself in a professional way. He will work hard there--take my word for it-- but he will also have a lot of fun. It has been almost 20 years since I worked there and I still see people that worked there then when I go in there. It is a good first job.
Well, at least you are headed in the right direction! sm

I have no clue what to even get started with. I had thought about accounting, but I'm really not all that great with numbers.  And to tell you the truth, it would be nice to have some sort of job where I can physically move around.  I think the sitting is really getting to me!  I swear I'm developing ADHD in my "old age".... ha!  Old at 39!  But regardless, I know I need to have some variety and movement in my job.

I have considered becoming a P.A.  Would need to take some upgrading on my physics and again, math is a weak point and I would have to work extra hard on that point.

Otherwise, I'm clueless for ideas.  I have horses and really love working with them, but it's pretty hard to make a decent living with horses.  I also enjoy horticulture, but I live on the prairies and horticulture is rarely do-able when it's blistering cold outside unless you've spent millions on indoor facilities!

Ideas?  Thoughts?   Help!

wrong direction
If it takes you 3 hours to transcribe an hour of dictation & you want to make 30 an hour, you would charge $90 per hour of dictation.

Another way to look at it (but you have to be more familiar with your dictators to do it this way) is to figure a minute of dictation is roughly equal to 12 lines (this is where the familiarity comes in -- I've had dictators as slow as 8 lines a minute & as fast as 15). That's 720 lines per hour of audio dictation. If you figure 10 cpl, that's $72 per hour of audio.

At $10 per audio hour you'd be making less than 2 cents a line.
That's a good step in the right direction...
I have all girls, so for some reason they are not the least bit interested in video games, but they used to have their own TVs in their rooms and since we just moved this summer, I never hooked them back up.  They don't watch half as much TV, maybe only 30 to 60 min a day now, if that.  We all make mistakes.  But I do think these video games are bad for little kids.  Educational stuff maybe, but not the crud that's out there now.  Good job.
Can anyone point me in the general direction

of making templates? I have no idea what I am doing or where to start. I have looked in the archives, but keep finding posts related to jobs that pay for templates, etc. Thanks in advance

Also, is it possible to really use templates when doing a very large acute care hospital?

In school now. Unsure which direction to go but
degree in Health Information Administration with a master's in Health Care Administration.
Not really. This is the direction of computers -see inside
When I had a Windows 95 computer WITHOUT any "security patches" or "updates" from the Microsoft Web site, I had a stand-alone box. That is, I never got any Spam, no popups, nothing.

I had this from 1998 to 2003. Then, in 2003 I decided to do the "security patches" etc. for Windows 95 that are availble on the Microsoft Web site. Then, I had popups up the wazoo, had to get spy ware, and it ruined my computer.

This is a topic on all the computer sites. IF you buy a NEW computer from let's say Compaq or H-P, those I know, it will come PRE-LOADED with a tremendous amount of stuff which is just basically advertising, basically just a way for the "advertisers" to access your machine. PRobably this is all the computer manufacturers.

THe short story on this is I think Microsoft thinks that's the way to go. THey built a software we have to buy and operate with, but it is really for the benefit of the people who want to sell us something. I miss my "black box" of Windows 95 without any upgrades. It was so much nicer. Just mine. But I too see SPAM with my name on it, not a common name. And they are obviously getting it off my computer name.

One more thing to thank Bill for.
They cant take direction, make same mistakes over.

How would you handle clinic notes coming up missing after you've delivered them to the facility?

I type the clinic notes at home, print them, verify the all notes printed, place them in a manila envelope clearly marked with the clinic name and dictator doctor's name and date of clinic.  I then deliver the notes to the lead Transcriptionist at the hospital which manages the clinics.  She in turn distributes them to the clinics.

The last two weeks, I have gotten several calls from the lead MT that I give the work too that clinics are calling saying they are missing certain notes from certain days which is impossible because I type all notes for a specific day in one large document and print them out together.  There is no way that some are printing and some are not.  Plus I ALWAYS verify that each note printed.  Today, she called and said there were missing notes from two different days.

Then there is the issue of my work being typed by someone in the hospital.  When I deliver work I get a print out of what's on the system as far as clinic notes.  It is a worktype specific list that only I am supposed type.  There are a couple of doctors who dictate all their notes in one looooong job.  There were two very long jobs on my list, but were never pooled to me.  When I enter the specific job number, it says they have been transcribed.  In one instance, the dictator dictated half on one job and half on another.  I typed one job and the other just magically got transcribed.  When I've called to ask who's typing these reports, no one seems to know.

These ladies in this particular transcription department are not a friendly bunch.  I have felt that they sort of resent the fact that I am doing work from home while they have to come in and type.  I think they are wondering why they aren't allowed to work from home.  The work I do is very easy clinic work and would be pretty easy lines for one of them to do just to pad their line counts.

I have a meeting tomorrow with the HIM director who contracted with me about TAT and I know they want a shorter TAT than the agreed upon 24 to 48 hours and I know she is going to want me to make more deliveries than the three I do a week now.  I have asked that they set up a remote printer for me so I can print from home that way delivery isn't an issue anymore, but they act like this can't be done which I know it can be done.

I'm about to cut this account loose, but it's such easy work.  It's just that I'm running into brick walls at this place.

Thanks for listening to me whine!

I now have trouble which direction sounds are coming from.
I can hear just fine, but I cannot distinguish where sounds are coming from. Drives me nuts when the phone rings and I can't find the darn thing!
I agree with this, but I trade off in the opposite direction. SM
Mine are more clear in my distance vision, and I put on reading glasses from time to time when I need them.  I only have to do this when the print is very small or when my eyes ore tired.  Otherwise, I also like my bifocal contacts.  My are made by AccuVue.
Dont you think though as thing move in that direction which they already are in EMRs that little by
little jobs will be lost and hospitals will take over more of their transcription work with VR and EMR. I would think that it will be that way.
E-mail me - I can steer you in the right direction to get your money back from Ms. Pineda.

BTDT.

Hey! I signed the above MQ QA
NOT not a cruise fan!!  What is up with that???
I just signed up with the gym. You get one
free visit with the PT and then they try and get you to pay $50 a month extra to sign up with a PT. Hahahahahahah! Not happening. My little toe feels great but the rest of my body is screaming at me. Trying to work but that's not going well today.

Best Friends. I wonder if anyone who has offered to foster pets from Katrina have been contacted yet. I haven't heard anything from them about being a foster parent. I live near Atlanta and I heard that several pets were sent to Atlanta's Humane Society, but haven't heard of anyone having a pet placed with them.

Maybe I'll try the LA SPCA posted here. Post if you or someone you know has had a pet from LA placed with them.

I thought I should say that I don't think there's anything funny going on, I just wonder what they're doing with all those pets.

Thanks!
I signed it but....

.....I don't like their tactics. When you click on "sign petition", it takes you to the donate page. Of course, you don't have to donate, but at first I, too, like some of the people further down in the threat, thought there was no other option besides donating. But then when I clicked on the "Signatures" tab, I saw my name was there.

There are a lot of gullible and unwary people out there - and the way they have that website set up, it is designed to prey on them. I signed this petition because I feel it is important, but I will not be signing any other petitions on that site.

Has anyone signed up for 6.99
a month with TranscriptionNet?  Is it worth it, any good jobs to be found? Thanks
Hmm, I have a paper here that I signed that says
they will deduct FICA taxes, pay the employer part of FICA equaling 7.65%, and federal income taxes. It says I will receive a W-2, not a 1099.

FICA is the SS tax. So, if they are holding out federal taxes, FICA, employer part of FICA, then all that is left is state tax...??

it seems to be all offices, have you signed
up for IPAY? I have not gotten a check yet either, but there is a statement there for 09/02 which obviously is not a regular paycheck
Unless you signed something when you were hired

that says you agree to pay for return shipping when you leave, then the company is responsible.  If you don't have your original hire paperwork, ask them for a return shipping label.  If they say you agreed to pay for it, ask them to send you a copy of the signed agreement.  Make sure you save all correspondence.

You never signed a noncompete, right?
Besides that, I have it from two attorneys and the State Department of Labor that noncompete agreements aren't legal in many states.  TAKE the ACCOUNT and RUN!!!!  This woman has said that you can have them, she doesn't want them.  They do want you.  You don't owe her any loyalty, especially if she's running her business into the ground.  YOU need to look out for YOURSELF.  That's what I'm doing today is making a list of every potential transcription client in my city and soliciting them by phone with follow-up letter.
Gee...isn't that the profession YOU signed up for as well?
Constantly correcting mistakes?
I signed and sent the link to everyone I know

I signed, did not donate

Signed but not reviewed
I am an IC and my new account wants me to include this under their signature line.  Is this okay?    Why?  I transcribe microcassette tapes which are erased after every use.  Legally, could I get in trouble if a report is dictated wrong/transcribed wrong, is it my responsibility since it states "Signed but not reviewed"?  Any feedback is much appreciated...
Just signed up for MTEC
I was in the same boat as you a month or two ago and could not decide between these two. They both seemed equally good. I ended up signing up with MTEC, but it was just because of everything I read on the MTEC message forum.
I am so glad I went with MTEC. It looks very thorough and since I started 3 weeks ago, I have learned so much and their material is wonderful.
Good luck in your decision. I can't tell you much about Andrews besides it's one of the top 2 and it's also very good from what I have heard.
I have signed this, sent it to my family, and
posted it on another board I visit that has a LOT of visitors, so hopefully we'll get a lot more signatures. Thanks for posting this!

I just signed up for Verizon Freedom - sm

I have never signed a confidentiality notice that says
I can't mention what account I type on - I know they always say not to contact that place or try to get a job with them, etc., and I don't see the big deal either. I can't see why a company would care if someone knows what hospital you type for. I guess some places are just different, but seeing as how I assume she hasn't signed anything since she just accepted the job, I really don't see how they could not hire her because she mentioned that, not knowing that they didn't want her to. That's just my opinion though.
They stopped in 1989 and signed the

That is so true. A document that is signed
is read as having been approved by the signer of that document. We have no way of knowing whether the doctor reads the document or not. In the case of the digoxin dose mentioned above, even if an MT transcribes the wrong dosage (though one should be very careful not to), if the doctor read the note he/she should catch the error before signing his/her name.
Sheesh. Don't know why I signed "OP"

As far as creditors, once you signed up with the agency, they have sm
NO CHOICE but to work with the creditors and YOU DO NOT HAVE TO ACCEPT calls from them. There are plenty of laws on the books protecting people like you. You need to contact your agency ASAP and tell them which creditors are harrassing you (yes, that is what they are doing if you cannot afford to pay them), and quit talking to them. Trust me on this one. My husband and I years back got into a major bind and worked with a credit agency where we learned about a lot of laws.

So, we began writing our own cease and desist letters directing them to our agency or saying "we want to deal with the original creditor and not YOU", i.e., capital one, etc., and they left us alone. We cleared out debt and it's been pleasant ever since.

So, you have fallen upon rough times. We all have. You HAVE options. You can keep your house and you can have phone call-free days.
You are doing the RIGHT thing by using an agency instead of filing for bankruptcy. Too many people are filing because they see no end, but there are ways to avoid bankruptcy. Plenty of ways.

Good luck

I just signed up for WildBlue thru Directv- sm
There have been no complaints on the board with regards to them; I will know in a few days they come out Saturday to install it. Cannot wait; my modem has been acting nuts in this heat. I believe WildBlue is cheapter than HughesNet too - it was $249 for the equipment (think HughesNet is $600, or at least it used to be)-- got the $70 a month package (they have $50, 70 and 80 I think)--higher the price the faster the connection in theory. At the rate I am going anything would be better.
I only have dial-up---actually signed up for satellite - sm
a few weeks ago. They came out took one look and said send it back, no can do. I have too many trees, which I had asked about when ordering. They said never fear, they'd be able to do it. The installer said no way. Needless to say I was less than happy. Now I have to make sure I get my refund for the returned equipment. --my plan is to harrass the heck out of Verizon and see if I can get an answer from them when DSL will be here; it is 5 miles from here so I know it is coming but I have been waiting 9 years! Luckily my 1 job where it would be very helpful to have DSL does not care what you use; but financially I could double my income if I had DSL or satellite. Totally stinks.
I signed off a job on my C-phone and then accidentally

overwrote the file, still not sure how I did it.   Anyway, I need to retrieve the report and retranscribe it.  I know it can be done, just not sure how.   Do I need to dial into a second phone number or can I use my regular phone number and use the keys to get it back.

I e-mailed my company around noon today and still haven't heard back from them, so hope someone where may be able to offer some help.

Any contract I've ever signed
has had the line rate in it, sometimes of the client's choosing, sometimes what I want. Companies will not negotiate a line rate as individual doctors do. I don't ever have a set schedule in the contract. It's all about what you agree to sign. If your line rate is in a contract, then unless your contract comes up for renewing every year or two, I doubt there will be any raise given if you do ask.
