Toyota Sequoia all the way!
My DH is a Toyota salesman and I have had ALOT of cars and SUVs, but this is my absolute fav!! It is the only car I have ever driven more than one year!
TOYOTA 4RUNNER IS THE BEST!
I have owned two Toyota 4Runners and they are absolutely the most dependable SUV I have ever owned. You cannot go wrong with a Toyota of any kind!
Toyota 4Runner! LOVE it! (sm)
It's a '97, & got it used a few years ago. Had Ford trucks in the past, but didn't like the crummy way they steered. Also had a GMC... it was a good truck but I was ready for an SUV that was slightly smaller. Found the 4Runner on the Web, along with a few others in the vicinity I wanted to look at. Ran Car-Faxes on them ahead of time, and as soon as I drove this one, I was sold. I did my homework and read forums on 4Runners, and almost everyone said their 'Yoda's just kept on going.... "hardly had to do anything but change oil & tires". Well, that may be an exaggeration, but I'm finding it's pretty close to the truth for me. The only complaints some people have is the stiff, trucklike ride (it IS a truck after all, built on a truck frame), but that's what I wanted... wanted a feel for the road and didn't want a mooshy car-like suspension. It has 4-wheel-drive which is sure handy in the mountains. The 6-cylinder engine has plenty of power. It carries all my stuff, and/or all my friends. With a 4-speed automatic transmission & overdrive, I think the gas mileage is quite good for a mid-size, 4WD SUV. A neighbor just got the Toyota Sequoia... fine for a really big family, but they have just one kid, and can hardly squeeze it into our narrow carports. Another neighbor has the newer 4Runner, which is smaller than the Sequoia but a bit larger than my '97. I still think mine is JUST the right size.

What do I dislike? Hmmm.... not much. I wish the display & buttons on the radio lit up so I could see them at night. There is also a rather large blind spot caused by the driver's side windshield post, though part of this in my case is caused by a plastic rain-deflector. STILL, I've found I have to be a little extra-vigilant about watching out for pedestrians in parking lots, etc. I also wish the car-alarm had a cut-off switch inside, for those times when you set it off by mistake. And since I drive on wet, snowy, salted or sanded roads in the mountains when I ski, another plus would be a larger window-washer reservoir.

But of course those are all minor things. I love the quality and solidness of it, the design (Toyota vehicles, especially the 4Runner, seem to be timeless in their design, and never look outdated.) I like its dependability and its ruggedness. The other night while driving home from skiing, I hit the Mother-of-all-Potholes on the freeway. It was a severe enough jolt that if I had been driving a car, or even a smaller SUV, there probably would have been damage to the front end, or at least the tire & rim. But my 'Yoda has nice big truck tires & rims on it, and although the hole was large enough that I actually came close to losing control of the car, later when I inspected it, the wheel was still intact.

Also, even with the back seats in place and not folded down, the cargo area in the back is huge.... much larger than many of the so-called luxury SUV's like the BMW, Lexus or Mercedes.

A used Toyota 4Runner cost me considerably more to buy than another brand, such as a Jimmy, a Jeep, or an Explorer, but I feel it's already practically paid for itself in the amount of money I've saved on repairs. I don't neglect it, of course, and do take it in for all its oil changes and scheduled maintenance. But when I do, they rarely find anything that needs repairing or replacing. I've had 4 pickup trucks, a station wagon, and a sedan, and my 4Runner is by far the BEST vehicle I have ever owned.

2005 Toyota Camry

Love it!

I LOVE my Toyota Corolla

We have both 2005 & 2006 models. It is priced reasonably, has excellent gas mileage, rides very smoothly & comfortably- I'm hooked! I think we will be loyal Corolla customers for many years to come. (Plus, I hear they will be coming out with a hybrid model!)

PS- it is funny because our neighbor just asked us the other day if we have a family member who works for Toyota because everyone that comes to our house, also has some kind of Toyota truck or car!

You go girl! You go girl! Loved your response!
Wooo hooo!!!
1996 LIMITED 4-RUNNER TOYOTA, PAID FOR
Will last forever, body will fall off before the engine ever quits.
I was told my Pontiac had a Toyota Corolla motor
chances are--you aren't really. Girl don't feel guilty...go on and work for who makes you happy!
I have been doing this forever as well, but
never thought to work toward a half daily goal. I work in 2 hour increments in that same manner, but find that in the morning that first 2 hour break comes too soon. I don't know why I didn't think to try a 1/2 day goal, other than after doing this forever I may be "stuck in a rut." By the way, great post!
YES!! always and forever LOL nm

No way! It took me forever to figure out how to get - sm
my DOS Smartype to work (MTSO still uses WP 5.1), couldn't imagine the nightmare of figuring that all out all over again. Every Windows has had tons of bugs, I'd rather wait 2 years until they are all worked out, plus it will cost a lot less then probably. I plan to avoid it all together if I can.
Yes you can, took me forever to figure it out - sm
but I have my WP5.1 and Smartype on mine. Had to change a few things in a couple files and change a BIOS USB setting, but works great. PRD will work to, go to the Columbia website and they have it all mapped out there how to do it. You just have to do about 3-4 things and it will work.
Nothing is forever....see message
But it's better to go from good to bad than from bad to worse!
It SHOULD TAKE FOREVER if the person is doing nothing but AMERICAN

dictators and YOU ARE DOING THE OTHER WORK THAT IS LEFT OVER.  FOREVER IS A LONG TIME.

CONSIDER THIS:  Your source and your manager don't like you and are going to let you stew by feeding you information about this Indian person doing all the easy work and letting you pick up the crummy work done by Indian dictators.  And as long as you keep doing this, they have no motivation to change and the Indian MT walks away with your money.

Have a nice day indeed.  Sounds like you have had a rotten couple of months and you are wasting your have a nice day on me.  I'm doing great dictation, picked up a huge bonus this pay period.  Don't waste wishing nice days on me.   I make my own thank you.

got it, DUH. havent typed a Pap in forever.
s
It should work, I have Smartype for DOS, took me forever to - sm
figure it out (tried on and off for a year) but finally got it to work. The Columbia University site has wonderful info. on how to get the DOS programs to work with XP. In the end all I had to do was change a USB setting and my Smartype works fine with my WP5.1; and my systems settings/BIOS have not been compromised because of it. I have PRD too (not on disk though) but have not tried getting it to work but I am sure it is something similar in getting it to work.

I have not picked up a book in forever
I go to the Internet for everything I need to know. Keep in mind that you need to find reference sites that are legit, then the Internet is the way to go. In fact, my books are packed in a box and I have no clue where that box is. The exception to that is my Book of Style, and it is a rare use item, as well.

QUITTING MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTION FOREVER

Hello everyone,

I have finally quit medical transription once and for all.  It has been a roller coaster for the last eight years.  I finally found something that is so much better.  I will be making my own hours and deciding exactly how much money I want to make.  I got so tired of begging for enough work.  I was tired of seeing everything going to India.  I also got tired of making less and less money.  This is the only industry where you have to have more and more experience and knowledge, but you do not get paid more for it.  I am just happy that I found an out for myself.  Now, with EMRs there will be very little transcription work left.  I hope the best for all of you!

Take care

Magic Jack is not unlimited forever

The fine print on my Magic Jack indicates that if I use it for more than 20 percent more than the average person (whatever that means), they may discontinue my service.  I am not familiar with the MT jobs that require unlimited phone service or the C-phone, but I imagine that those minutes would add up rather fast.

As far as using the Magic Jack for long-distance calls to family and friends, it seems to work great.  It just doesn't seem like a good choice for MT work, IMHO.

Aw, thanks. I've been in the biz forEVER and in order to learn, you HAVE to be priased...
I know some QA who never do anythnig constructively but for one to learn, you cannot beat them into submission like the Marines do. I had an MT one time who was on 100% review for 6 months. The other QA would complain but I would say to her, 'Fran, you are doing a great job, but you need to remember that it is venous stasis not venoustasis' (not her real name and not a word she necessarily missed) She learned it because I didnt say it nasty. I've had more than my share of bad QA and thats why I know you have to be praised at some point. It is just easier for me to try to help. Kind of like first grade, ya know - if you have a good first grade teacher, you have a desire to learn. If you have a QA that cares, then it is easier for everyone.

Happy New Year and hopefully good QAs all aound!
Ditto, doing 23 minutes of a Dr. I hate right now.....taking forever....well back to it - nm

YOU GO GIRL!!! SM

GURL - YOU SAID IT ALL!!!  STANDING OVATION TO YOU!!!

I just went on a rampage about these "wonderful moms" badgering a single mom about putting her kid in daycare so she could work... WHO CARES?!?!?  Why do they think their aggressive is worth so much -

I agree - UNITE...  CARE...  REASSURE...  We are all familiar with at lease one aspect of every ONE of our lives...   BE CONSIDERATE FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE...  Just because someone doesn't live their life like YOU do does NOT mean they are doing it WRONG....  Doesn't the BIBLE say to LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR....  we are ALL neighbors here, and I would lend a helping hand to anyone who asked it of me...

GEEZ - if you need a hormone adjustment, PLEASE get HELP... if it is the HEAT, GET IN A POOL!!!  There are some of THE most nasty replies on this board for NO REAL REASON except for those whose lives are miserable, so they wish to pass it on and create TURMOIL!!!  Just STOP!!!    Realize it is OKAY to be different, and to live different lives... and if someone comes to this board for empathy, those who wish to give it - please give it... those who have NO empathy... SHUT UP!!!

You go girl!!

I totally agree with you!!!  In my town, a LOT of the trailers are so much nicer than any of the homes.  When my husband and I first got married, we lived in a crappy apartment.  I would have so much rather lived in a nice trailer where I felt safe.  However, we live in Missouri, where it is tornado heaven in the springtime and I am a huge freak when it comes to tornados.

You shouldn't call someone a skank just because of where they live.  I would bet that some of the women living in the $300,000 houses are cheating wifes who actually deserve the word skank.

Keep up wtih good work, you should be proud of your family!!!

You go girl! sm

It was almost a year ago that I sat my family down and told them that I wanted to come home.  I had picked up a "side" account while working a full time job. I did the "side" account for 6 months and then gave my notice to the hospital I was working at as I found enough work to do at home.

It is the best thing I ever did and I actually make more money than I did in house because I'm happy and motivated.  I don't have to deal with the office witch, a run in my nylons, forgetting my lunch or having to drive the 45 miles round trip every morning.  I can stop what I'm doing and spend time with my kids or my grandbabies and I can get by on 5 gallons of gasoline a week at the very most.

Good luck!

You go girl!

Little MT, all the best to you and you go girl! SM
This business has gone to the dogs and I APPLAUD you for getting out.  Let us know how it goes.  Congratulations!

a little extra surprise.
YOU GO GIRL!!!
You know we are here for you!  I'm glad you're getting the restraining order, that makes me feel better.  I will be praying for you!  I am so proud of you.  Stay strong!!!

You go girl...

We're proud of you.  I've been there, done that, exactly, a few years back.  This is one thing I leanred --  once things start going badly for him, and they will, he will shift his focus back to you -- everything going wrong for him will be YOUR fault.  If only you hadn't done this or that.... yada yada.  That way he doesn't have to take any responsiblity.  Please don't fall into this trap of even listening to it !!  Listening to it only feeds into him being more convinced of it !  Just remember you were smart enough to get rid of him, so go live the life you were meant to have!  If you don't do it for yourself, nobody else will do it for you !  Congrats.

You Go Girl!!!!
Everyone needs a night out and if he doesn't like it too bad.
I am right behind you, girl! My
up and running in about 30 more days and I can't WAIT!  Way more money, more free time!  YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YOU GO GIRL
I had something very similar happen to me! The doctor dwindeled down my work to nothing and basically forced me to quit. What they did was give the work to a girl in the office who they did not have to pay a contract rate to and get off cheapter! I was infuriated!!! So I say, YOU GO GIRL...
to CI GIrl
Honey, you really are clueless. The Indian MTs are the upper class - they are not poor. They have college degrees, some of them have Medical degrees (takes 2 years over there, I think, but I could be wrong), and they have nannies for their children, get tea time paid for by the MT companies that employ them. Those employers also provide their transportation to and from work everyday. Does any U.S. employer do that?

40 years this might have been the land of opportunity, but not anymore. Illegals are swarming in here everyday - they are stealing our identities and making a mockey of our entire system of laws. Not to mention how they are clogging our schools, our health care system and our prisons.

We are under attack.
You said it..girl!...
Same for me, live in rural midwest. My last office job, I topped out at $11.30/hr with 20 years experience... Wow $$$, so by the time you counted in the car payment, gas, time commuting, the fact that I never would see my husband because he works odd shifts "on call" type schedule, etc. It just was not worth it. This way I can play/babysit with my grandson 3-4 days a week and work nights, etc. Manure shoveling sounds better than some of the office politics I've seen over the years, that's for sure! I agree, I wish the pay was more and it is sad that people want experienced transcriptionists for 6 cpl:(

YOU GO GIRL....

Misha,

I'm still laughing so forgive me if I make a few "typos" o.k.?

Having taken a break from MT and working in a law firm for about four years in the mid-1980s, knowing what I know about attorneys, I think you should send it.  Lawyers, as much as doctors, have a great rivalry and there's nothing like publicity to whet a lawyer's appetite!  I say YOU GO GIRL.....

You Go Girl!!!
Right on, QA dragon lady!! I am SO on board with what you are saying. I have been an MT/QA for 35 years and I must say that a lot of the newer MTs don't want to take the time to do the research necessary to learn their jobs so that they are knowledgeable and can produce a good document. I have found so many lazy MTs that use QA to fill in the blanks that they don't fill like filling in. I spent many, MANY (unpaid!) hours in my early days going over every single reference book I could lay my hands on to find a single word because it drove me crazy if I could not find it! We did not have the benefit (and ease) of the internet back then and had to rely on our own resources to find answers. I think the internet and these types of forums have made it too easy for newer MTs to be lazy. They think it should just be handed to them on a silver platter. I'm sorry to you conscientious newer MTs - and I know there are a lot of you - but the lazy, careless, sloppy MTs make a bad name for everyone. It is no wonder that QA today is at the end of their ropes. If you saw the simple blanks - I mean simple to fill in if someone had just taken the time to pull up Google - that are sent through QA, it would curl your hair. Stop blaming everyone else in the world for your laziness, take a good inventory of your skills and figure out what you need to do to improve yourselves. Do not shoot the messengers. It is too easy to blame QA. Don't forget we started right where you are today - the difference is we know how to do research.
