I volunteered 1 afternoon a week all through my daughter's kindergarten class.  It was encouraged.  I wasn't sitting over her shoulder or getting in the teacher's way.  I was helping to get reading books together, helping in the computer lab, getting assignments ready, bulletin boards, handing out snacks.  Our school just sent out paperwork for different things you can volunteer for.  The teacher said she needed help with th day homework is due.  My help isappreciated.  I also did this for my brother before I was a mom in kindergarten and first grade and was also appreciated then too.  If I knew I was not wanted, I wouldn't volunteer and if I knew it was disrupting my daughter's class, I wouldn't volunteer.  I do it because they need volunteers and I can.
