I also have an 8-month-old who is about to get mobile. Right now I set up sort of a playpen in the living room with pillows, but that will not last for long! She also enjoys being in her swing and exersaucer so that helps out a lot. We are pretty lucky in that she does still take good 2-hour naps for now, but I'm not sure what's going to happen when that changes! And I do let her watch TV also (but I know someone out there will have something rude to say about that). She loves Dora, Diego and Jack's Big Music Show. I do make sure to take breaks throughout the day and make time for her too, and that seems to work for right now. The days seem to fly by. If I come up with any great tips for when she starts running around, I will definitely let you know, but the gate sounds like a pretty good idea.
