I fold laundry while I'm zoned out watching TV.

Posted By: trade ya toilets for laundry? on 2005-08-15
In Reply to: hate this one too, seems the roughest on - the MT'd out hands.

I don't watch much TV anyway, because I can't stand sitting still doing nothing.

I do the laundry, but boy do I have HUGE laundry baskets of clean clothes to put away!
I don't mind doing the laundry, drying, and even folding. Boy do I hate having to separate them and put them away or even put them in my kids rooms! Time to have a pow-wow with my teens, so they can do their own!

I have two HUGE baskets overflowing with clean clothes that need to go into their drawers or dressers! I hate when that happens!!!
That's the spirit, fold! fold!

JVC fold up headphones

Hello,

I was at my local Big Lots (love that store) and found headphones.  I purchased the Maxell behind the head headphones, and the sound quality is not that good.  They also had the JVC collapsible headphones that sat on the head with a volume control box.  They were a few dollars more.  Before shelling out more bucks, I wanted to see if anyone had used these and if they were good.  Are they comfortable and how is the sound?  I've switched back and forth between the ear buds and behind the head styles.  The ear buds irritate after a long time.  In the past I've had headaches from having too-tight on-head headphones.  Any input on the JVC collapsible on-head headphones in the bright colors (magenta, green, silver) would be appreciated.

Thanks so much!

Big Lots usually has the fold out room dividers, too

There are laundries that will wash/dry/fold by the pound sm
I have taken in Laundry Mountain and had it all finished for around $40. Of course it's going to be different wherever you are. It did get me caught up and I was able to keep up with it for quite a while.
This old babe says Babs by 100-fold! The Way We Were, Ave Maria, Memories, Enough is Enough..nm

LAUNDRY!!!

I do laundry for myself....now...but I did have--sm
a family of five to do laundry for at one time. working or not, I still kept up on it. I had to. Nobody else would do it. lol. but that is just me...and meant no offense. It was not directed at you, anyway.
LAUNDRY! Never ends...

I do laundry for 4 during the week...
and 5 on the weekends when my son comes home from college.  I have enough laundry every other day for at least 3 loads - jeans, towels and shirts, socks, underwear.  Today, I had 5 loads because I stripped all the beds, plus had a small load of black and red, which I don't always have, depends on who wears what.  I have a relative who always buys new socks for her family so she doesn't have to wash as often and used to leave the dirty stuff pile up on basement floor until the stuff started to mildew.
My first job working at a dry cleaner/laundry. sm
Working on a shirt folding machine in the summertime with temp over 100 degrees indoors.  Smelling the dry cleaning fumes.
I have a huge pile of laundry

But I want to buy more clothes because they are having a buy one get the next for $1 at the shopping bug.  They I can have more clothes to wash

Isn't that silly

do your present laundry first and then treat yourself--sm
for a job *well done* by buying new clothes. That way you get both. just a suggestion.
I think teaching pre-teens how to do laundry

I think 10-12 year olds can help do some laundry - it helps them develop a work ethic and shows them that if they go out on their own, what they will have to do....well, the ones who don't continually bring their laundry back to their mothers.  *LOL*  AND they love eaning $$$ - it's a great way, instead of *tossing* allowances at them.....chores/laundry/etc. = few dollars in their little pockets *S*

It's all about deals and contracts w/kids I think....and I'm a pro...on the subject, as I have some....*lol*

My friend's kids have been doin their own laundry since they were 6.

Truly sad when couples air their dirty laundry in public

Please, think of the children!

I would feel sorry for Sh*ri except she is such an obvious whackjob who truly deserves whatever is coming her way.  Baby, you know the old saying:  What goes around, comes around.  Obviously it's coming around back to you in spades!

Tip on Aching Wrists/Target Laundry Detergent!
Okay, I have hesitated sharing this one for a long time now, cause I know, absolutely know, I will get flamed somehow, cause its sort of silly, but its not silly to those of us whose wrists and/or arms are shot from this "career".  I have really bad wrists now AND elbows - actually if your wrists hurt, chances are your tendons are aggravated right up to your elbow, too, though the pain might not localize there.  At any rate, I also found my wrist would hurt with some "ADLs", mostly laundry.  No matter what size of detergent I bought, they were always heavy, and the motion of pouring deturg into the cups really hurt my right wrist. Sometimes I could even hear an audible "pop" on that motion of holding this heavy bottle and pouring. My physical medicine guy said it was the motion of that with the weight on top of typing that wreaked havoc on my wrists, and that even lots of women who don't type have popped their tendons out using laundry detergent!  Well, this is SO stupid, but...a few months ago I went to Target and saw their brand "Method" laundry detergent.  Its super concentrated and fits 32 loads in a tiny bottle. Plus, its like those mouthwash dispensers where you just hold the bottle upright and squeeze and a tiny bit of the detergent fills in a tiny cup at the top. You fill to the line, which takes all of 1 second, and that's all the detergent you need! Plus, this stuff is awesome with the laundry.  Prior to that, only Tide could get my kids clothes clean. This stuff is the BEST, and it smells great! Its about $6 for this bottle, which I would have thought expensive, but the savings on my wrists are priceless!  My carpal tunnel and elbow tendonitis have nearly completely healed. It was just this stupid combo of motions that did my wrists in!  For those older MTs like me, who've been at this for over 20 years, try it! It might help!!  Again, I see a sports med guy, and get injections occasionally. I used to have to wear wrist braces, etc.  I was scheduled for surgery until I started using this silly Target laundry detergent! Now, no more pain!  Isn't that so weird? But neat?
Laundry. Offered kids $5 a load but they turned it down. Now everyone does their own, except hubby

After watching this
I'd have to say I now know why I had no idea this was going on.  If more people knew about this, how their meat was being "harvested" and what they do to these animals, they wouldn't be in existance at all and thats what they are afraid of.  These images should be shown to schools all over the U.S. to teach at a young impressionable age that this is what is going on and it needs to change.  I myself know that I need meat in my diet, we all need it, I don't eat a lot of it because too much can be bad for you, but how am I going to eat after watching this??  It sickens and hurts me and I can't believe people can work a full day treating a living thing like this.  Imagine their lives, born into complete suffering and agony, you can HEAR it.  I'm just completely blown away.  There is a better way to do this.  Why are they being hurt alive?  We have enough technology to take away their pain at the very least not to mention the living conditions.  I'm completely hurt and I think more people should be.
watching less and less
Seems like half of the year is reruns and alot cable stations are reruns from regular tv. Getting sick of the same shows day after. Cut it off for awhile see how you like it.
Okay, I'm watching CNN now and (sm)
They are showing the expressway where people are trying to evacuate... total gridlock. It's like a 6 to 8-lane interstate, but they don't have the other direction open... what I'm trying to say is they can open up the other side to let more people evacuate, even though they would be going down the highway in the wrong direction. No one is even on the other side..

All these poor people in their cars, just moving like turtle and this thing is coming... I just don't get it.
you must not have been watching the same...sm

YOU must not have been watching the same show and even today - they showed clips all over the TV and HIS BICEPS AND TRICEPS are in TREMENDOUS GOOD SHAPE for anybody 62.....

Obviously your upper arms are batwings.......if you think his upper arms were in bad shape.  You should only look so good in the upper arm area.......

Have you tried watching
Desperate Housewives or Greys Anatomy? I think they're both entertaining shows, although Desperate Housewives was better last year.
If you like watching
made for TV movies, try the Lifetime channel. Once in a while I can find a good movie there. Good luck
still watching ER
It is not quite as good as it once was but still head and shoulders above much of the other stuff on TV. I still watch and like the newer characters. Neila is interesting right now as is the situation with Kovac and Abby.
When you are watching something like CNN
when there is a big news story (like the miners in WV) and you're hearing this stuff supposedly live and then you hear someone like Wolff Blitzer repeat the information and say something totally different than what someone said just 3 minutes ago.   Not the same subject, but it also drives me totally insane when they ask someone who has lost a loved one in a horrific manner - how do you feel.  HOW DO YOU THINK THEY FEEL?  And why do they feel like they need to get up in the face of someone who is burying a loved one - is nothing sacred anymore.
Yes, I have been watching
It's keeping my interest enough to keep watching and actually it better than I thought it would be.
I'm watching sm
Although I missed the last episode. I'll catch it next week before the next episode hopefully. Don't know who will win.
I'm watching.
It's nice that you can see one episode right after the other. So easy to get involved that way. I wanted to see more of Tym's work also, but I think David is going to win. Alice is the brunette, right? I'm glad the young blond got kicked off. She was dizzy if you ask me!
So very sad watching this
Sitting here watching Animal Channel and the tribute to Steve Irwin. My heart is still crying. His wife, Terri, looks so grief stricken. What a loss.
I've been watching the news but
haven't heard if anyone is claiming responsibility?  On a different note, I was just telling a friend yesterday that before 9-11 I heard that the biggest thing on the news was shark attacks.   Hoped it wasn't an omen.
But maybe she does not like watching MTs look stupid
ranting about something that isn't even true? I know I don't.
Well, I cried while watching them all
xx
Watching the news
My heart goes out to those who are homeless, jobless, lost everything in their lives, many including loved ones.  I have come to appreciate my family, job and home so much in the last few days.  I stopped to get gas today, only needed 1/2 tank and it ended up costing $25, went up 35 cents since yesterday.  Somehow this is very scary, nearly everything we have comes through the trucking industry.  The ramifications of this will be far reaching, everything will go up......well, everything but an MTs pay, but hey, I have a job and I don't need to get in my car to do it.
watching you like a hawk?
What really happened?
No, there's nothing on TV that's worth watching anyways.
I do listen to my CDs, though.  Music makes my type faster.
They are definitely watching. See post below about my
experience with Verizon long distance any my $2500 bill in one month.  I only call 2 numbers long distance and they are my hospital accounts so they knew what I was doing.
And you keeping watching, don't you?
Why anyone would watch that show is beyond me, but to each his own. All 3 of those judges are nutty in their own way. If Simon had a Brookly accent instead of a British accent, no one would find him charming. Paula has always been a little looney - remember when she was married to Emilio Estevez?

All this friction between Simon and Paula is just a publicity stunt.
Three that I never tire of watching are:

The American President (Michael Douglas and Annette Benning)

The Jazz Singer (Laurence Olivier and Neil Diamond....ohhh, I ADORE Neil Diamond)

My Big Fat Greek Wedding (Nia Vardalos and John Corbett)

I believe it is, since they are watching your children & (sm)
in the event of an emergency such as an allergy, should you not disclose something it would not benefit anyone. Especially your child. I do ER transcription and have had kids come in to the ER with new onset diabetes, and the nurse knew to check since it was in the family history, so that is something to think about.
No, you said to prove that as you were watching,
That is exactly how it happens. But people can do this type of work from home as well as on-site. I am a member of another transcription board and there are several ladies there that do this. They are always posting jobs on the job board there for this type of work. Why is it so hard to believe that they can do this from home? What would be any different if they were sitting in an office transcribing?

But believe what you want, since you are always right anyway. ;)
we're watching out pay go down -
I personally went from 70K a year to 40K. And I am doing nothing different. Oh, but then, I am working 3 extra hours daily. So, yes, I/we get ticked off at this industry - perhaps the stress of its creators is settling in.

I am glad I have a job...so glad it hurts.
Still tearing up after watching it over and over
Animals have always been a big part of my life. I just love them and they never cease to amaze me. This is an unbelievable story. I just went and ordered the VHS documentary of Christian the Lion on Ebay! I have to see more of this. Thanks SO MUCH for posting this.
I don't enjoy watching my pay go

from a living wage in the 80s/90s with decent line counts and fairly decent dictators to horrendous ESLs, "creative" line counts to gyp the MT, and pay so low you can make more at McDonald's.

I do enjoy transcribing & editing.  Preaching to the choir here, as we all know MT isn't something anyone without training and skill can do.  The pay should be commensurate with knowledgel, but sadly it isn't.  That is why I only do MT on weekends now and have a FT job in a completely different field.  I simply can't afford to be an MT anymore.

When enough skilled transcriptionists leave the MT industry and US hospitals are fed up with offshore quality or get sued enough times and the message finally hits home, maybe there will be a demand again for MT, but I doubt it.  That is my hope though.

It's a distraction. Besides, there's nothing on worth watching
anyway.  I don't even have a favorite TV show any more because they've all gotten so offensive.  One thing that helped me was to figure out how much time I wasted during a day and how many lines I typed on the message boards.  That's all wasted.  It could be earned money instead of fooling around with meaningless distractions.
