Does anyone know of a grammer website for medical words and uses.

My husband is curious and wanting to get into Medical Billing/Coding and work from home like I do with transcription.  Does anyone know of a website, like this one, that offers so many jobs from home and information regarding coding and/or billing?  Thanks.  Also, if anyone has input on this please let us know.  Would love to find out which course is the best, etc....thanks!

Going to be an easy way to make a living.  I have a friend who thought she could just fall right into it, work at home to be with her new baby and make the money that I was making at the time.  It seems glamorous being able to work at home and make good money, some of us make well into 40k.  She was in school for less than 6 months, found a job immediately when she came out, but the tapes were horrible, the company was horrible, and she was constantly asking me, hour upon hour, what this word was, listen to this word for me, I can't find this word.  She was making about 8 dollars a day! Needless to say, less than two months she gave up and is now working in a grocery store again.  This was about three years ago.

So these newbies in the long run will get frustrated not having the knowledge they need in order to make the money to earn a decent living.  I remember I went to school for about a year and a half to learn this stuff.  When I got out, it was a whole new ball game.  The doctors weren't as clean and clear as on the practice tapes we did in school for three months, I had to work in house in an emergency room so there were things constantly going on around me that made the dictation even harder to understand, and I believe it was about well over two years into MT'ing before I knew "NIN gap" was in fact "anion" gap.  So these ladies have no idea what they are in for, and the only people left to do VR in a few years will be us seasoned MTs who have paid our dues already.

and Tessier's The Surgical Word Book, 3rd edition.  Books you could buy used I would say would be Stedman's Pathology and Lab Medicine and Cardiology/Pulmonary word book.  These are all the books I use the most during my day.  You could buy other speciality word books as you need them and could probably go used with those.

I wouldn't bother with buying a drug book, new editions come out every year and I just stick to the FDA website and RXList as my drug references.

Also FYI, not a book, but I use my Stedman's Electronic Medical Dictationary a lot.  It's easier to open the program than it is to pick up a huge 30-pound dictionary.

I have been an MT for over 10 years.  I also am getting burnt out, tired of my job, day in day.  However, I do love transcription and make excellent money at it, have grossed over $50,000 per year the last 5 years.  I decided to go back to nursing school and am very happy with my choice.  However, over these 10 years of transcription I have had my ups and downs.  My biggest issue with being at home working is lack of socialization, being home day in and day out with just the kids and the animals really gets to a person, sure hubby is home at night and thinks working from home is the easy life, thus the return to school and boy has my overall enjoyment of life changed once I realized I was the problem, not everyone else and I needed to find myself again.

Anyway, my biggest advice to you three-fold:

1.  Get into counseling for yourself, find out who you are and what your needs are, whether or not you think you need to, I sense you are feeling overwhelmed and need someone other than your family to talk to that can be nonjudgmental to your feelings and needs.

2.  If you're only making $100 after you pay preschool you can either keep doing it and be miserable, or quit because you are lucky enough to have a husband who can support the family without your income. (See how fast his mind changes just by losing the income you do have as to whether your job means anything.)  Or look for a different company or office that you like more and are more productive if you really want to do transcription (lots of fish in the sea as far as companies).

3.  Find a local "mom's" group where you can get out and socialize.  MOPS (mother's of preschoolers) is an excellent one that is nationwide, they have a website.  Also Mom2Mom is in a lot of areas.  They provide a once a week time for moms with kids the same age to get together, socialize, (some offer spirtual guidance some don't) and each week a different mom takes a turn watching everyone else's children at the facility that hosts it so the other moms can talk about things they have in common.  Every stay-at-home and work-from-home mom needs to socialize with adults, without their kids, or they will have a nervous breakdown eventually no matter how much they love their kids.

Sorry so long but it does get better but you have to take the first step at making yourself happy.

background and anatomy and physiology knowledge, a transition into coding wouldn't be hard at all.  From what I can tell by looking through my husband's books, an MT would have to learn insurance regulations and legalities.  We've basically got all the medical background down or we should be if we're worth our salt as an MT.

I even contacted AHIMA and found that the qualifications for taking the CCS or CCP coding exams are completion of the a coding program, RHIT program, or RHIA or related work experience.  Transcription is part of HIM, albeit the red-headed stepchild of the HIM department, but a part nonetheless and so satisfies the qualification of having work experience.

The test is tough though.  My husband didn't pass it his first time out and I think I read something like only 20% or so pass it the first time.  So it would probably be best to take some sort of formal coding class, in my opinion.

They value their transcriptionists! And websites don't lie.

I had my tissues out.  What made me really lose it was Lee Greenwood's song.  It was 13 years ago when my daughter was only 10 years old and her dance class used that song in a dance recital and they all did sign language while dancing.  Everyone in the audience was in tears or close to tears.

When 9/11 happened, we had no cable TV.  We did manage to get the local PBS station in and watched in horror.  We had just moved into our house.  We had a flag, but no pole, so we went out about 6:00 p.m. that night with the younger kids and hung the flag from a branch on our tree in the front.  Within the next week there were flags at every house in our neighborhood.

I'll never forget.
