I think it is kind of odd that this survey showed

Posted By: up at the same time the international on 2007-02-11
In Reply to: Completed it. Thanks!! - Amanda

posts were on here this morning telling people they'd pay $5.00 for every e-mail address you sell them.  I'd be very careful when you are dropping your e-mail address.  The survey does not seem to have any company name or anyone's name attached to it for that matter.

They just showed it about 5 minutes ago
They said Ryan gave the wrong number to punch when people called in and that they also heard he'd had two offers from well-known bands, including Van Halen.
last nite on TV they showed a psychic's....sm

I didn't think it was Karr, UNTIL they showed on CNN last night a picture/drawing from a psychic from 1996-1997 and they held the drawing up next to Karr's picture last night and they look identical.

Too bad it took 10 years to bust this case open

No, it just showed up. Administrator must be on break.

.

Argh...I was there for awhile and no one showed up
so I left. Please post a new time so I can join. I was really looking forward to it. Tonight works for me.
During the Packers game they showed
current temperatures around the world. Greenland, Moscow, Alaska were all around 20 degrees. In Greenbay, WI, it was -2 degrees! Funny.

Update. MRI was normal hip. only showed
ovarian cysts for which I now have to go see the gynecologist.
Ray Nagin is the one who showed true compassion
Tell it like it is..Thank you.  So much ragging on the Mayor of New Orleans, please, point the finger where it belongs.  This disaster could not have been taken care of by local govt alone.  We needed the feds to step in.  The president was on the TV two days before the hurricane warning it was gonna be a bad one.  Well, if we all knew that, there should have been planes and ships already loaded up and ready to move down to the gulf the minute the storm abated.  If anyone is showing true compassion, it is Rag Nagin.  If you ask me, FEMA did not do it's job.
No problem with the anger the OP showed towards home-schooling?
I didn't spew venom, only pointed out the obvious, kids are kids are kids. Anybody who thinks that people home-school their children to keep them away from "bad kids" is greatly mistaken. The minority may be for that reason. The majority have real reasons for their conviction to home-school.

Some people choose to home-school because their kids are the bad kids. Some people are forced into home-schooling bad kids by the public schools who can't handle them. It does happen, I've personally witnessed a friend being put through exactly that.

But, thanks for pointing out my venom (it was not intended as such) and thanks for the prayers.

I stopped my HRT when studies showed it did not prevent osteoporosis. sm
I have osteoporosis.  The govt halted a study on HRT as the women involved had more heart problems than those on the placebo.  Too scary for me.  In addition, my hair was falling out excessively.  Since I have been off it, my hair is back to normal, but the flashes have come back.   Even more repulsive to me was when I found out that the HRT I was on came from the urine of pregnant mares that were impregnated just to get the HRT ingredients, then the colts were destroyed.  No way.  There are over-the-counter remedies for hot flashes, but now they claim that black cohosh causes liver cirrhosis.  So, I'm not taking anything.
Excuse me, but the results that I got back this morning that showed that I got wrong were

Sentences that she said were not fragmented, were.  Sentences that she said were complete were run on.  And, one sentence CLEARLY required comma usage and she said I was wrong.

I am one of those MTs who knows what she is doing and has done well over the last 20 years. The only reason I am applying for work is because I was laid off with several others right before Christmas.  I take pride in saying that I know what I am doing!

What's the survey for?
We have this one, and it works just great.....
MT pay survey!
I am a MT working part time, like less than 20 hours a week. I was curious to the ones who work full time at this.  What do you make a month and which company do you work for?  I would like to see if there are actually MTs out there making some good money or decent money and what kind of companies provide that.  I just wonder what the majority of you are making.  With me working so little hours, I don't know what to expect if I worked full time.  I just want some insight.
Please be sure and weigh in on the survey, thanks. nm
nm
Hold on before you take that survey!
I have seen this lady before. I could swear when we first checked out her "pay me to take surveys" MLM scam site before she had previously worked at Bloomingdale's, but I do not recall that she had worked there for 20 years or had worked anywhere for 20 years. Seems to me she had references from several people she had supposedly worked with from several different places all swearing up and down what a wonderful and qualified employee she was (too much so, if you get my drift). I don't recall ANY of those said jobs being QA positions, more like sales or clerical. She seems to have had a lot of jobs for someone her age who worked for 1 company for 20+ years.

My point here is that this gal was operating a pyramid scheme just a couple months ago. Her original site was "Join here and pay $20 to take survey's about our MT business, and then refer people to me and you will get $5.00 per person who signs up under your name." I don't believe she is interested in any of this information being factual, she just wants to collect it (along with our personal data) so she can make money by selling it to God only knows whom, probably costing us our jobs or at the very least a whole lot of aggravation with e-mail boxes being filled with spam from other companies. Her only goal (in my opinion) is to make money in a marketing scheme. I guess she thinks the national MT companies are going to pay her for this data just because she collected it? She will claim its accuracy because she did a survey? I also find it odd that while she talks about QA this and QA that, it seems to me what she really means is quality control - and that is a big difference, odd she would not know the difference, isn't it?

Being a former Spheris employee myself, if she was as "all that" in the QA field, she should have started with them. I do wonder if she is still with them and, if not, then my guess is this is how she thinks she can make a living since, apparently, no other companies will have her?

One thing we all noted before, and it is rather apparent on her new site too, is that for someone who has been an MT for 3+ years and is supposedly as good as she claims herself to be, she sure makes a whole lot of errors.
Umm, I took the survey and it had no questions that

Survey on IC's vs. Employee

Could anyone tell me if they are an IC or an employee and who they work for?  I am trying to find out if I should change all of our IC's to employees or not.  Also, could you tell me which one you like better?

Thanks

2007 survey
Says MTs make an average of $27K a year.

Remember pay is production based. If you don't have experience, you're going to be slow.

I would advise you to enroll in one of the better schools. You're going to have a very difficult time getting a job otherwise.
MT salary survey

Interesting Survey!

I hope I posted this in the right spot! Kind of new to this forum, especially with posting messages.  I downloaded a medical transcription survey from 2007 from the MTIA web site which I thought was very interesting and would like to share it with you all if you have not read it.

I loved the summary point stating "Doctors do not generate revenue, documents do. Accurate and complete healthcare documents are essential to a doctor's and institution's revenue cycle."

I remain hopeful and optimistic that in the future that we will once again be recognized for how important our jobs really are.  All of us can go out and get ourselves a medical secretarial position or other positions in the medical field, but it takes a special talent to do the job we do, and I think many people who think our jobs are not worth the money we deserve, possibly can't do OUR jobs.

This is the link and if it does not work, go to the MTIA.com web site, search under press releases and it is the Bentley MT survey for 2007. Hope you find it interesting.

Regarding poverty in America... A little survey

Do you believe that:

A:  Poverty is mostly the result of poor choices in life, either by yourself or by your parents and grandparents before you, thereby setting up the vicious cycle.  Early parenthood, out-of-wedlock births, no father in the home, recycled boyfriends in and out of a home, lack of early childhood stimulation with books/toys, lack of routine and academic expectations, etc.

OR

B:  Poverty is societal.  Poor people have no choices in America and no real opportunity or ability to raise themselves out of poverty.  The way to end poverty is to increase social programs until people are not living in poverty anymore.  Poverty is societies fault and the government's fault and therefore theirs to fix.

Line rate survey
Can I get some examples of line rates people are getting from MTSO's.  Also if you do give me this information let me know what part of the country and what type of line. (ex. 65 character with spaces)
The Hay Group did a national survey
in 1999. It was very comprehensive, and covered hospital, service and IC MTs across the country. I'm looking at it now, and the drop in compensation between then and now is sickening.

If you contact them, perhaps they have updated the figures. They're online at haygroup with the usual before and after.
I promise I will once the survey is completed....sm
I don't want to influence the results in any way so the information will be unbiased and more meaningful.

Survey Notebook Vs Desktop (sm)

Which is preferred, Notebook or Desktop for working 8+ hours per day doing MT?  Any specifics you'd like to share about processor/memory would be helpful.  Upgrading my computer and deciding which would work best for me.

I am doing a survey on radiology rates of pay. If you would like to

Voice Recognition Editing Survey

I have the opportunity this spring and summer to speak to MTs and business owners in various parts of the country, and one of the topics I'll be discussing is voice recognition editing.  After working with it for a year, I have my own opinions on the subject, but I'm hoping to collect information from other MTs who have been performing both editing and traditional transcription for the past 6 months or longer.  Your participation would be greatly appreciated.

I "work" for an online survey place
I do surveys for PineCone Research and that is the only one I know of that is legit. I get products before they come out in the store a lot, too. With each survey I get chosen for (not much, maybe one or two a month so you can't make a living off it, lol), I get a $5 check in the mail. Sometimes, I get chosen to do an online brainstorming session about some new product a company wants to put out, but that has only happened twice in the two or three years I've done it. It's a nice little bonus, and you get to see some new products before anyone else does but you definitely couldn't make a living off it. :) Just thought I'd share. I usually just read here the past few months.
Survey - inquiry minds want to know - how many lines...sm
can you normally type in a 6 hour day?  Not your highest, your average please.  I know there will be specifics, but base it on your average day, average dictator, average workload.  I am very curious to see what everyone else can do.  TIA
I've completed the survey & I hope all

It took six months to compile the results of the survey/questionairre

asking about how MQ can do better.  We got a letter telling us the findings 9 months later and on it apparently lots of MTs beitched about no pay increase and they are looking into it.  That was 3 months ago.

MQ is too busy plotting and planning how to rip off the clients and MTs to be bothered with the current problems.  They have a bazillion managers but no one seems to be able to keep the simplest things done on a timely basis.

I feel your pain. I had been providing excellent service, never increased rates, always met TAT (usually supposed to be 48 hr, but most times office mgr would call and needed it in 24 -- a huge amount of dictation). As you did, I always put them first, above everything else. Well, the office manager decided to start transcribing it herself, and she did not even tell me that she was going to do it. I waited a little while (longer than I should have) hoping she was just trying to pay for Christmas (she had actually done that before) and I finally had to do something else. The something else did not work out either, and I am lucky to have what little work I do have right now. Meanwhile, she now has two full-time paychecks (yes, this was a full-time paycheck for me). It is a good thing that although I was making full-time money on their account (working 2 days per week) I never let go of my other work, but I still may wind up in the big "B" court as my options now are few, and I stupidly took care of things I needed to with credit cards while waiting for her to return the work to me. I also knew that she was going to call me spur of the moment wanting me to do the work when she was ready for a break/vacation, which she did, but I was unavailable to her as I had picked up the something else by then. I just wish that I had never heard of being an MT. As much as I love the work, the business is awful.

What kind of KVM do you have? -sm
I have heard that if you get a cheap one you'll have problems with the screen freezing up when switching back and forth. I'd really like to get one where you can use a hot key to switch back and forth. Can you please tell me what brand yours is?

A different kind of job

I have no idea how these things fall into my lap and don't how this will go but just met and got offered to do "formatting and editing" of finished documents for a Waste Recovery Company -- fancy name for garbage and recycling company.  This manager has to do long reports, handouts, employee manuels, etc. and just wants to type the report and all I do is edit -- not grammar or punctuation -- use a consistent outline form, do title pages, do headers and footers, make sure pages are correctly numbered for $25 an hour.  She wants me to make it have "eye appeal and look pretty."   She spends hours formatting and hates it and so I am going to try it.  Decided I had nothing to lose to try.   Depending on how fast I am probably not more than 6 to 12 hours per month so we will see how it goes.  But she did say if it worked out well, they have several other branches in Montana, Idaho, California and they might be able to use me more at those facilities also that have to do the same reports.  So guess I am branching out somewhat.   Just as one door closes, another open as had one of my most profitable account, suddenly retired due to ill health.  So was thinking of looking for another account when I got this call.    SOmething different at least.

you are MY kind of MT
but I might have done this far sooner than you - I have almost zero tolerance for this cr____pola.

Would love to see this doc in court trying to prove a CHIMPANZEE (or even a sharp HUMAN typist) could do what we do...

Thank you very much for your kind help!!!

That was kind of like what I was saying before
Right to work states do that to people.

However, I am sorry you lost your job after all of that. It would have been easier if they had just told you the truth in the first place.
Yes ma'am. It's kind of cool actually..............
you can see everything they're doing and once they're done, they're gone.
what kind of person are you?????

"don't dog the people looking for your daughter and investigating the people who may have seen her last. "

okay, well maybe she feels that not enough is being done.  I mean, she did just lose her daughter.  Imagine that feeling.  I can't.  I am quite sure if it were me, no one COULD be doing enough.  I would probably be on everyone's case until she were found.  Also, are you dense?  OF COURSE they are going to investigate the people who have seen her last.  HAHAHAHAHA.  I cannot believe that comment.  Who else would they investigate??????

As far as the rest of your post, I don't believe it even deserves acknowledging.  Your thoughts speak for the kind of person you are.

What kind of advice do you want?

It's a rough life raising your kids and running a household by yourself while you worry about your husband's safety.  The kids can sense your stress, so they act up as well.  Then when your husband gets home from wherever he's been, you have to readjust to having him around again.  A lot of it also depends on what branch of the military he wants to get into, as well as active duty or guard/reserve.  If you're active duty, you never know where you're going to be sent to next.  It could be somewhere nice, or it could be a foreign country with mandatory boarding schools for your kids.  People think that military families have it so easy, but the military pay and benefits aren't great compared to what we could make if we moved to a big city.  Military housing has a lot of problems, and the old housing development with the leaking foundations, high water table, and backed up sewer lines is still being used by young military families 25 years after we lived there.  I could get into more details, but every time I do, people here think they know more about my life experience than I do, so I won't.

what kind of keyboard
Just curious, what type of keyboard do you type on?  I use the Microsoft erogonomic.  I absolutely love it!  I find that if I type on the traditional keyboards  my hands hurt.  Also, do you wear gloves for carpal tunnel protection?  I wear gloves and have found this helps me tremendously.  I have been doing transcription for about 15 years.
What kind of software is best?
Thanks.
thanks for the kind words - it does help...:)
I know lots of places are hiring, but I don't have enough experience for most of them and am afraid to jump from the frying pan into the fire....

Well, it kind of depends. SM
Most of the pain management I've seen strongly encourages other modalities, depending on the patient and the condition. Exercise (swimming or aqua therapy are popular), stationary bicycle, walking, physical therapy (massage), acupuncture, sometimes counseling to help adjust to the chronic pain and accept it better, diet - an overall healthy lifestyle. Whatever the patient can do to make them feel better.

However, pain medication is still a fairly normal component - it's just watched and managed carefully with an emphasis on using it appropriately.

Unfortunately, even though our understanding of pain has grown over the years, sometimes all they can do is try and medicate it.
