perceived as some sort of failure on the ICs part, and a fear of the unknown. what if I end up with a worse client? What if no one else will hire me? What if? What if? What if? all negative thinking, but it is hard not to do some times. People are just naturally afraid of change. They find a comfort zone, whether they are truly happy in it or not, and then just do not want to adventure out of it. Change can be a good thing though, even if it is scarey. :^) just my thoughts.
