I took the first part and passed it.

Posted By: sm on 2007-12-27
In Reply to: Well, I just took the first portion and already they said I - didn't qualify. I have the written (sm)

It's actually a really easy test. They sent me the second part (the transcription part) and I decided not to proceed as there were 4 files to type and they seem pretty long. However, just because you've "been in the industry for over 20 years" doesn't mean you've been doing things correctly! You really shouldn't knock the test because it was really easy, but maybe you just need to brush up on things and you'll pass it another time.

The easy part is making the decision to leave, the hard part is
actually doing it.  Been in your shoes and it took me a year and a half to leave after I had made the decision to do so.  It was the best thing I have ever done for myself and my girls.  I had family and friends and a counselor telling me what needed to be done and I knew what needed to be done but until I had the courage on my own to do it I stayed.  One day, we had an argument and he spit in my face and that was the last straw for me.  Even though it is something that I will NEVER forget, that day is also a day I will never forget because it is the day that I took my kids and left.  I am a single mom of 2 and have been single and supporting us for 5 years now.  I have been healing ever since and still am to this day.  You can do this.  I know that if I hadn't have left and I would have stayed one of us would be dead by now or both.
thanks everyone! I've passed all of this
info to my mother. i'm so glad it's her house and not mine :)
Oh how sad! I did not know she had passed.
I agree, RIP Shelly!!
Just passed the CMT...sm
I'm just bragging on myself.  I have 2 years' experience.  The transcription was easier than I thought!
yea - i passed
had gotten an error message - emailed the site - and was supposed to get back a response - of course, on this board, the response has never come. Not surprising. They don't care unless you post something controversial - then they are all up in arms and kick you off the boards - we all figure out how to get back on - though - we're never gone for long.
I passed it!!!
I was really shocked!!! It was not as hard as the review guide so that was a good thing. I finished the entire test in 2.5 hours but you have 6 total for both portions.

I'm going to repost at the top so maybe others can see my response and it can hopefully help others!

Thanks for asking!!!
Ok, I give up. My dad passed away

a year ago today and weird things have been happening since. On his birthday the coffee pot stopped working, which was a gift from him. On father's day, the washer stopped working, another gift from him. Today, the dryer decided it didn't like the new washing machine and decided to join its old counterpart in appliance heaven. That was another gift from him. All these items were less than 2 years old. Either he's a bad gift giver or he's messing with my head. Don't know whether to laugh or cry at all the crazy coincidences or call out ghostbusters. Why can't he break the stupid things like the lawnmower?

I passed the RMT exam! sm
Sheesh!  It took them long enough to give me the results.  I was thinking I'd be eligible for the CMT before I received the RMT results.  The earth didn't shake for me when I received the results like when I found out I passed my nursing boards, but I'll take it.
If you passed the CMT before, I'm sure you can pass it again... (sm)
especially since you have an additional 7 years of experience. Someone told me they make you listen to the dictation snippets without the use of a foot pedal. Really...that is funny. What MT would work without a foot pedal? Unless of course they were a double amputee. Sorry I'm so wordy tonight. I just got done with my shift and am a bit punch drunk at 3 am.

Anyway, the RMT is just for new graduates to test their basic skills.

Good luck with your CMT recert. I have my 2 years at the end of the month and am thinking about taking it myself.

I passed the CMT exam!

I am pleased.

I took it in March and passed

Don't sweat the transcription.  The CMT Review Guide serves more to scare that provide an accurate representation of the transcription portion, IMO.

Just take it when you are ready.  If you don't have the 2 years' experience yet, you will benefit from taking the RMT first because it is very similar in format.  The RMT is far less intimidating than the CMT before you actually sit down to take the test.

It's very reassuring that you can receive the results immediately.  Heck, even nursing boards that are all multiple choice questions don't give you an immediate answer.

Good luck!

CMT exam ~ I passed!

Thanks for the responses I received last week and your good luck wishes.  It helped!!  I passed the test!

There are 2 sections - the first is 106 questions in which you have 2 hours to complete.  The second portion is 62 questions and you have 4 hours to complete that section.

Section 1 is multiple choice and is about terminology, disease process, grammar, and some anatomy.  You have the ability to "mark" an answer and then see a list at the end so you can go back to that particular question.  You really have ample time.

Section 2 consists of the actual dictations.  You never have an entire report to transcribe though.  Some questions vary from proofreading to picking the correctly punctated sentences, etc.  You have no foot pedal on the test and use your mouse to play, pause, rewind, etc.  In some questions, you type the entire audio.  On other questions, there is a paragraph already there, you listen to the audio for the paragraph, and then type the ommited text only.  It's very important to follow the directions and do only what you are asked.  Again, you can go back and review your answers before you submit your test.

When you feel you are cmoplete, you click one final button to submit the test and within about 5 seconds of processing, a screen will pop up with your results.  I saw the words PASS and I was so relieved!!!

After leaving the test site, I stopped by the hospital and signed my documents to receive an 8% raise on my base pay and an extra 2 cents per line on my incentive pay.  I definitely think the $150 for the test was a good investment!!!

Again, thanks for your support!!!!

I passed the CMT this week! sm

I know there is a lot of debate about the CMT, AHDI etc., but for me personally -  I am extremely pleased that I finally took the time to sit for the exam.

Passed/past

I agree akward way to say it, but perhaps they changed it because it should've read:  Only lipase elevated, past 3 times normal.

Thus, saying that NOW the lipase is elevated, however, the last 3 were normal.  ????

Oh, I'm so sorry. My dog passed away a month or 2 ago, too. Everyone here was SO kind.
Maybe our dogs are playing together!
One of our friends' child just passed away.
What do you do for someone in this situation?  I know to send a card and go to the service.  I don't think flowers are a good idea because people send so many that it's just a hassle to find somewhere to put them until you have to throw them away.  Money, a cooked meal?  I spazzed out and didn't know what to say to them except we're here for you.  I can't believe I got up this morning griping about my own situation when so many other people have so much that's worse.
Done ! And passed it on to my whole address book...sm
     GO JULIE !!!
My grandpaw used Vitalis up until he passed away...
About 6-1/2 years ago.  Some things never change.  How about the shampoo with the beer in it, I can't remember what it was called, or the commercial *you tell 2 friends, and they'll tell 2 friends, and so on, and so on...*  Too funny!
MA passed law stating all residents MUST
or they will be fined $1,000 per year.  Poverty level up to 4 times poverty level (for family of four) you will receive free or subsidized care.  All other residents must either have health insurance through their employer or individual policy.  My question is, what if you just cannot afford it????  There are many reasons some above poverty level cannot afford coverage, such as family history.  This law stinks.  I'm sure there was heavy insurance company lobbying on this one.  Once again the little guy gets .
Then CMTs who passed more than a couple
years ago should have to retest, because it has only currently become so ridiculously hard that nobody passes it.  Can you say money?  Rake in hundreds of dollars per test, over and over, and you're getting rich.
Good knowledge you passed along. nm

My friend passed away years ago so I can't ask her

exactly what she meant, but I think it means pretty much what you said...once something is not a challenge anymore or the "new wears off", for some personality types boredom sets in.  I know it does for me.  I have often thought I may have mild ADD as well, you might have hit the nail on the head there.

That is cute! I passed it on to others - no message
: )
If you've already passed their online test, I believe the
interview was just asking about your skills and preferences. It's not a verbal test like some other companies. Nothing to worry about. You don't need to study for it. It's just a conversation with the HR person or recruiter. Relax, you'll do great!
There were a few bills that Arnold would not sign - not passed

Ill gov passed law getting insurance for all kids. only problem is...sm
you have to be uninsured for 6 months before you can get into their program. You know what happens after 60 days lapse in insurance? The insurance company does not have to cover your pre-existing conditions for a year. So thanks, Guv. You must have a buddy who owns an insurance company. Supposedly for all - middle class too but do I dare let my kids go without health insurance for 6 months?
YIKES!!!Got our oil contract for this winter and almost passed out!!!

Last year I paid $845 for  600 gal of oil with a 2 months to pay. Yesterday, I recieved our contract for this winter and it would cost $1517!!!!!

Guess who won't be taking the contract.  That's ridiculous. The country is going to go broke at this rate. They want $759 for 300 gallons. That takes us 3 months into the winter, but......where do they think the seniors  and others are going to get this money?

Guess old Mamma Bear is coming out of storage this year. Wood is no problem for us. We have a stockpile for the garage coal & wood stove and a friend that has 11 acres of woods he likes certain areas cleared every year.

I feel bad for others who have no access to another heating source.

Uhem, I took and passed the CMT exam back in the day... SM

when it was a two part exam -- the first part a subjective, 120-question computerized exam and the second part, a practical transcription test administered by a proctor of my choosing and approved by the AAMT who oversaw me transcribing several COMPLETE reports (not little snippets of digital dictation listened through the computer), ACTUAL tapes that were sent to my proctor.  My proctor called the AAMT out in California when the test began and called them when I was finished and immediately faxed my completed reports.

So do not for one minute call me a "do-nothing" MT who could not pass the test.  When the AAMT changed their name, they dumbed down their test so that EVERYBODY could pass it (Indians, Fillipinos, YOU, etc.).  If everyone can pass it, more people will take it, and that means more money in their pocket!

I held my credentials for a while, but found that they meant absolutely nothing, especially when I worked directly as a hospital employee.  The HIM directors I worked for in my career had no idea there was an AAMT let alone transcription credentials!  It made no difference in the salary I was offered.  What made a difference were my years of experience and how well I did on their test during the interview!

I gave up my credentials when I realized that the organization did absolutely nothing for me.  Did it improve my wages?  NO!  Did it improve my status within the healthcare industry?  NO!  Transcription still is and always will be the red-headed stepchild of the HIM department which is why it has so easily been outsourced and then so easily offshored.

This organization should have championed medical transcription within the healthcare industry.  This organization should have shown hospital administrators, physicians, and HIM managers just how important the MT is to the healthcare machine.  This organization should have elevated our status.  That is what the AHIMA did for coders and that is what the AAMT/AHDI should have done for us, but they dropped the ball!  And now that they have embraced offshoring and even extended a helping hand to our offshore competitors, they have flushed any respect we might have received down the toilet.

I had high hopes for the AAMT/AHDI and they let me down miserably.  We are viewed as glorified secretaries by physicians and management.  So you go ahead and right your high horse, Ms. CMT!  You're still a big fat nothing in the mind of the doctors you hear in your ears every day and that's how we'll stay if the AHDI has anything to do with it.

Bless my doggie, Lady, who passed away tonight.
Lady, I'll love you forever. Mama
My Rottie did that too, she sit in the back of my SUV and jump at the cars that passed or followed u
You'd hear her teeth hitting the window as she crashed into the glass. Then she'd get tired and lay down.
Coretta Scott King passed away overnight....sm

While she was in poor health since having her heart attack and stroke a few months ago it's still sad to see a legend pass away.  I'm sure that her kids fighting over whether or not they should try to get the government to buy the King Center and 2 kids stealing money from the center didn't help any.

May she rest in peace.

Just got an offer from a local hospital and wanted to run it passed you all before I say yes...

Employee status w/benefits

$13.50/hr with 0.05 cpl incentive fo anything above 1200 lpd and $2.00 shift differential (for 2nd shift which I will be working)

1000 lpd minimum productivity requirement

Work in the office first month for training and then home with hospital provided computer.

Dictaphone EXText Word Client transcription platform

Is this a decent offer?  I've worked at the same place in the office forever and haven't actually been out there  looking in several years.  I tried working for a national part time at one time because I wanted to be working from home, but couldn't see how someone could make a living on 0.08 cpl without working yourself into an early grave, so I gave up the part time job and kept the full time in office job.  Now I have a new boss who doesn't know her butt from a hole in the ground and I started looking around and came across this current job and before I jump ship, I want to make sure I'm getting a good deal.

The $13.50 seemed kind of low to me given my years of experience (13 years), but because I was at my other job for so long I maxed out pay wise.

No. Passed test but they required 20 hours a week minimum
They seemed very nice. I've heard a lot of good things about them. Wish I could have worked with them. I just needed a few extra hours a week.
Thank you for this info!! Texas has passed law to be effective sept. 1, 2006!!!! nm
;
2 years experience and you passed the CMT? That speaks volumes about the AAMT... SM

I've been saying it for a while now.  The CMT test is not an assessment of an MT's skills and knowledge medical terminology, pharmacology, anatomy and physiology knowledge you are, but how well you've memorized the BOS.

Well, congrats anyway I guess, for memorizing a bunch of useless rules and regulations that will undoubtedly change in the next five years when a new "updated" version of the BOS is published.

Makes you wonder how they passed grade school grammar. No it is not acceptable.
I agree 100%.
The sister of a co-worker of mine passed away a few weeks before Christmas. Can I still send a *sm*
sympathy card without looking stupid.  I have been off on medical leave and various reasons have kept me from getting the card out but I really want to send one.
I totally agree with you. Even samples passed out by the MT trainer were full of errors
and some were her own creations that she used every day! I could not believe it.
There is is a "giant sucking sound" at the borders per Ross Perot when NAFTA was passed.

What's up with the CMT part A and part B exams?
I thought it was all one test.  How can a half a test last 6-1/2 hours?  If anyone knows, please share your info!  Thanks!
Does anyone know if you are a part time employee for 1 company and part time IC for another can you
still claim deductions for IC on your income tax even though you are one of each.
Depends on how part time the part time jobs are.
You can do it. You just have to work out a schedule you can live with.
Spell as best you can or blank them and keep going. I've passed many tests when I've left blan

Which part of OK are you?
Hello there
I did my little part
Went to the Houston SPCA yesterday to bring home a "furry refugee".  They had not all been processed yet, however, and so we brought one home that had already been there, but at least it cleared the way for the other furries guys and gals.  They are in need of donations, if anyone is interested.  They have brought in approximately 460 dogs and cats from NO.
Because they pay a part of it as well.
MQ pays a good portion of the premium and the MT is only paying part.

Spheris pays a higher part of the premium, or at least they have in the past. With the new plan, MQ may have adjusted their portion of the insurance premium up a little bit.

Where did you get the idea MQ was taking away insurance?
this part
Preliminary, unaudited results indicate that operating income declined from approximately $61 million, for the twelve months ended December 31, 2003 to approximately $23 million for the comparable 2004 period. The decline in operating income includes: 1) the impact of approximately $11 million in costs incurred in 2004 related to the ongoing billing investigation and associated litigation, 2) approximately $4 million in costs associated with separation and replacement of the Company's management team, including members at the executive level and 3) approximately $3 million associated with the write-off of intangible assets associated with products no longer being offered. In addition, the base business, as described above in the Revenues section, experienced a decline in transcription service volume from existing and lost clients and a decline in transcription service rates charged to customers. The impact of the revenue decline was partially offset by several cost saving initiatives including reductions in telecommunications costs, office consolidations and associated staff reductions.
$2.87 in this part of PA sm
I got a bike rack for my car (had been using SUV) to take DS to his races and training sessions. I have personally been increasing my mileage and even ride my bike to church every chance I get (20 miles one way). I do all in-town errands by either foot or on bicycle.

When the aforementioned SUV is paid off this summer, I am going to get an even smaller car. I would love to try either a hybrid or a car that would run on biodiesel.
I don't think there is on. How do you get the lab part?
There are programs to get BSN if already an RN that can be done on-line.
