Just did it...

Take a chance and try it! I finally did. I did a 200-piece mailing and only got two responses, but they were good ones. I'm now working on my own, though am still looking for more work because I obviously don't have the volume I did when working for a company. Lots of the smaller practices are already invested in terms of equipment, so if you can invest your time (and it is time-consuming) to pick up, deliver, print, etc., it can definitely be worth it. I agree with the post below that administrative stuff is there no matter what. I, too, like the social aspect of it. They get to know you, you get to know them, and you're not just this invisible entity typing for an invisible entity. I am really enjoying it, though I am very busy with all the running around. I do feel that if I can land one more small acount, I might be in pretty good shape. You won't know unless you give it a shot. Then if it doesn't work out, you can move on. Good luck. I hope it works out for you!
