Love the "lack thereof part." sm

Posted By: Mom of 4 on 2006-06-14
In Reply to: Some ideas - friend of a teacher

I've had 4 kids in the elementary school for a total of 19 years.  This year was my youngest's last year in elementary.  I ran into the teacher who had my oldest son in 4th grade on a recent field trip.  She just looked at me and said, "Don't you have a son named _________?  I hadn't seen this teacher to speak to in 12 years.

He's now early 20's "married with children" and she hasn't forgotten him.  He drove her crazy.  He drove me crazy.  He drove all of his teachers, principals, etc. crazy.  He was the class clown and always in trouble.

Funny they don't rememer my other son who was straight A honors all the way, but very, very quiet.

I love ER, easy for the most part, though - sm
it does take a bit getting used to. I used to hate it. I do trauma ER so it can get gruesome sometimes but for the most part they don't get very detailed. Sad sometimes, typing about dying or injured children can be a bit upsetting at times. I get mainly gunshot wounds and car accidents though. I only have 2 doctors (both ESL) that I actually make a decent wage with but that is because I do 2 notes in 1 as I have to do a billing note and a lot of time just have to copy and paste in the plan, easy money, 30 minutes is an easy 600 lines that I can do in 2-3 hours. The rest I do though are not as lucrative as they are either hard to understand or dictate slow believe it or not.
motivation or lack thereof....
Do i totally understand! I have been doing this for 10+ years and keeping the production up lately has been a real struggle, not only financially but emotionally. Hence, I am returning to school. It is giving me something else to focus on - a goal. Otherwise, I feel like I will be typing the rest of my life. Take some time off??? I would love that !!
Sign on Bonus (or lack thereof)
I was promised a sign on bonus when I was hired 6 months ago and I am still waiting on it! I call every week and email every week and never get a reply. Even my super always says she will check on it, but never gets back to me. It pisses me off! If they don't want to give it to me, eventhough I have kept track and have met every qualification for it, I think they owe me an explanation as to why. I wish someone would get back to me. I wish I would have found this site before I applied with them, I found their ad on another site and left an inhouse job that I held for many years to venture on to working from home, which the at home part I love, it is the the lack of communication part I hate. Has anyone gotten their promised sign on bonus from MedQuist, and if so, after how long and what did you have to do to finally get it? Threaten a lawsuit? Thanks.
Physicians and caring or lack thereof

recently I have experienced both sides of this aspect.  In January I was hospitalized for asthma by my then family physician.  I had been to him 3 times in the month before that with problems but he made no effort to adjust meds, etc.  About a month later, he walks into his office and tells his staff today is your last day. I'm closing the office.

I got strep throat and went to a different doctor.  She was absolutely the best.  She looked at ME while she was in the room, not at the chart or her PDA in her hand (like the first doctor used to do).  She talked to ME.  Asked ME questions and answered any I had.  asked about allergies (which I have many). The first doctor tried to give me medicine I was allergic to (and he had been told multiple times).  Two weeks ago I was hospitalized through the emergency room with another asthma attack (brought on by the flu).  My new doctor sat down beside me in the room. Talked to me.  Got a very detailed history.  Explained what tests she was going to do.  Explained the results of what tests had already been done.  Told me she was going to refer me to a pulmonologist to evaluate if my meds need tweaking.  Even asked me which one I preferred based on how my insurance would pay.   I have only seen her in the office twice and then while hospitalized and I already feel more at ease and reassured that 2 years of using the other doctor.

Also, at work this past week a patient was admitted after lunch.  Because the patient had missed the noon meal, the PHYSICIAN went to the cafeteria and bought lunch for the patient and took it to him.  Now THAT is a physician that cares about the welbeing of their patient!

I wish all doctors could be like these two - both of them female!  Maybe it has something to do with our nurturing instincts!

I got a REAL present for MT week from my part time employer. I love it!

One consideration is health insurance and lack thereof because
1 major illness and the money would be yesterday. It seems like a huge amount but really not in this age and time, good but still not what I call huge. I am older and I think wiser when it comes to money issues because I first would want to ensure the most important things covered- you could retire, I wouldn’t on this amount- if retiring you would have to pay out of pocket for really big expenses such as health care. I saw a program 1 day on winners of huge amounts, millions to be exact, and only 1 could account for any money and their spending it wisely - all the others squandered and had really nothing to show. Take your time and think it through clearly before quitting, retiring, spending it all, blowing it, investing, etc.
The easy part is making the decision to leave, the hard part is
actually doing it.  Been in your shoes and it took me a year and a half to leave after I had made the decision to do so.  It was the best thing I have ever done for myself and my girls.  I had family and friends and a counselor telling me what needed to be done and I knew what needed to be done but until I had the courage on my own to do it I stayed.  One day, we had an argument and he spit in my face and that was the last straw for me.  Even though it is something that I will NEVER forget, that day is also a day I will never forget because it is the day that I took my kids and left.  I am a single mom of 2 and have been single and supporting us for 5 years now.  I have been healing ever since and still am to this day.  You can do this.  I know that if I hadn't have left and I would have stayed one of us would be dead by now or both.
love, love, love the show. hate american idol. this show is for real.
the only reason i entertained watching it was because of mark burnett and as usual he has such genious casting and editing. btw, don't know who anything about "metal" music but these performers make me like it. love marty and jd as performers. HATE JESSICA. susie is so nice and so emotional. it seems they all support each other and enjoy each others skills. regarding ty and bob marley, ty was excellent but he also lucked out on the song! bob marley was genious too and his music is very easy to listen to. i don't like 3/4 of what the others are given to sing but their performances make me love the music. dave navarro shines on this show, very gracious for the most part and letting the contestants down easy when they have to leave. he was great last night with brandon (?). sweet, sweet show. i am so impressed with everyone involved.
What's up with the CMT part A and part B exams?
I thought it was all one test.  How can a half a test last 6-1/2 hours?  If anyone knows, please share your info!  Thanks!
Yep that's it, 4000. Love, love love the zoom
But I feel like a dork typing...every time I try to type But it is coming out as Nut!
Does anyone know if you are a part time employee for 1 company and part time IC for another can you
still claim deductions for IC on your income tax even though you are one of each.
Depends on how part time the part time jobs are.
You can do it. You just have to work out a schedule you can live with.
I love it too - love doing my nails 5 hours a day and staying awake

Love NOT getting paid while sitting doing my nails too.  It's a real turn on.

I tell all my friends to try it -- sit in front of your computer while you have no money to pay your rent and instead do your nails, you get a real buzz down in the pit of your stomach.

Also LOVE LOVE ESCRIPTION and make good money but...
Can I ask how you sit there for 8 hours. Lately, I'm having a motivation problem. When I focus, I can rack up the lines, but lately, I get so easily distracted. My mind wanders and I struggle to get my lines. Any tips on how you stay productive who do you work for?? I work for Transcend.
People either love it or hate it. I personally love it
but I know a lot of people say you cannot make any money on it and will not work on it. I do okay. I'm obviously not getting rich but I am making a living. I found it easier than Dictaphone and faster such in downloading and uploading job and you only have to log on one system and not like Dictaphone where you have to log onto the VPN and then log onto the program. It's always worth a try, but yes, the biggest complaint I hear is that no one can make a living and the cpl isn't that great.
I went back in house and love it. I love not being
secluded. I was working in my PJs, less organized and feel much better now that I get up and dress for work and see people (even those in traffic aren't so bad anymore). I find that I have more of a life now, and my family says that I spend more time with them now.

Working at home served its purpose for a long time; I was ready to go out into the world again now that I have no little ones at home.
BD WONG! I love him! I love all CSI and Law and Orders!
I am so addicted. I actually schedule my job and family around the shows LOL.
Love love love my chair
The arms can be lowered so they won't be in your way, I don't know about the tilt limiter. But I bought my off ebay about 6 years ago and can't do without it. No I do not think you can find another chair that even compares to the aeron, changed my working life completely, no sore back or butt. You won't regret it, but you will if you go for a cheap imitation.
LOL. I love it. I also love the song sm
I wouldn't take nothing for my journey now. Miss the Happy Goodmans!
Repeat after me: I love my job, I love my job. :) nm

You can love a job and still love being home! sm

I got into medical transcription for many reasons.  Yes, one was that I wanted to be home with my children, another was that I wanted to be in the medical field, and yet another was this just fits me.  Medical terminology and grammar are two things that have always come easily to me.  So, this fits.  I can work early, early mornings and late nights when they are asleep.  Also during afternoon naps.  Yeah, doesn't leave a heck of a lot of time for myself, but THAT is a sacrifice I am willing to make, leaving my kids for someone else to raise/care for all day wasn't.

I do not love money but I love what it can buy
for me. I work 4 days a week now and was not bringing home what I wanted every 2 weeks, for some reason that is at least 1,000.00. I just decided to turn up the speed and put my mind to doing at least 3000 lines a day and figured by that should get what I want in the pay line. Worked well for me. I tell people if you want to talk with me call before I go to work, do not let outside influences bother me during my hours. Other than a bathroom break, glass of water, here for the straight 8.
I love Google and I love MTs
Okay, who in their right mind would not only discuss but have passionate opinions about hyphens and apostrophes? I love it!

Anyway, in googling grammar rules I found numerous references that two days' time would not but hyphenated but when used as a modifier like two-day history, it would be.

I remember telling an OB nurse friend of mine about fretting over 38 weeks pregnancy and whether the hyphen belonged in there and she just laughed and said she thinks she would get the point either way. Well harumph!
Which part of OK are you?
Hello there
I did my little part
Went to the Houston SPCA yesterday to bring home a "furry refugee".  They had not all been processed yet, however, and so we brought one home that had already been there, but at least it cleared the way for the other furries guys and gals.  They are in need of donations, if anyone is interested.  They have brought in approximately 460 dogs and cats from NO.
Because they pay a part of it as well.
MQ pays a good portion of the premium and the MT is only paying part.

Spheris pays a higher part of the premium, or at least they have in the past. With the new plan, MQ may have adjusted their portion of the insurance premium up a little bit.

Where did you get the idea MQ was taking away insurance?
this part
Preliminary, unaudited results indicate that operating income declined from approximately $61 million, for the twelve months ended December 31, 2003 to approximately $23 million for the comparable 2004 period. The decline in operating income includes: 1) the impact of approximately $11 million in costs incurred in 2004 related to the ongoing billing investigation and associated litigation, 2) approximately $4 million in costs associated with separation and replacement of the Company's management team, including members at the executive level and 3) approximately $3 million associated with the write-off of intangible assets associated with products no longer being offered. In addition, the base business, as described above in the Revenues section, experienced a decline in transcription service volume from existing and lost clients and a decline in transcription service rates charged to customers. The impact of the revenue decline was partially offset by several cost saving initiatives including reductions in telecommunications costs, office consolidations and associated staff reductions.
$2.87 in this part of PA sm
I got a bike rack for my car (had been using SUV) to take DS to his races and training sessions. I have personally been increasing my mileage and even ride my bike to church every chance I get (20 miles one way). I do all in-town errands by either foot or on bicycle.

When the aforementioned SUV is paid off this summer, I am going to get an even smaller car. I would love to try either a hybrid or a car that would run on biodiesel.
I don't think there is on. How do you get the lab part?
There are programs to get BSN if already an RN that can be done on-line.
SE has to pay part of the SS tax, which is
practically the same as self employment tax. As SE, the company pays part and you are responsible for the rest.
Most definitely part of it...

See your doctor...may need some hormone adjustment.

What part of WV are you from? sm

I am from Beckley...Boy, is our town ever growing rapidly!!!!

I have read these posts and checked out websites for these train rides, Amish country, Dutch Wonderland and I really, really believe I have found our next vacation!  I have found so many things that I am interested in that would be great for the whole family.  I really do appreciate all of the advice!  Now I cannot wait to book this vacation!  Thanks!!!!

Like I said, it came as part of MQ's (sm)
horrible DQS platform in 2004.
Duh on my part ... thanks so much!! :-) nm

What part are you from because
everything I've read or looked at in my state is between 12-15
You know the sad part?
The sad part is that she was a really good friend for a long time, and she never ever spoke to me after that because she blamed me because I found out what she was doing. I guess she figured I had "ratted her out" after she got caught the second time, when I was not there anymore. I remember when I asked her to stop, she said to me that, "She could not be like me, because she did not have my work ethic." I know that maybe she was just hurt, and that I should stop thinking about it because it was almost 12 years (my goodness how time flies!) ago, but you know, I still miss her. Every so many years I'll send a Christmas card hoping she will write back and even now I wish the whole thing never happened. Oh well. I will make a New Year Resolution right now to stop whining LOL. Things happen for a reason!
First part taken from OP
"... and this is a catholic hospital. i guess this is the new christian work ethic." - I brought up organized religion because of this comment.

I merely meant that it is flawed (because it is made up of humans) and she should look out for her own wellbeing (and not be swayed or feel unjustified because she is working for a religious organization).

Religion itself isn't a bad thing, but many times the organized groups get more concerned with protocol than the truth and love that Jesus talked about.

(The following is from copied from PFO.org)- Some of the most stinging rebukes Jesus issued were directed toward the Pharisees. Probably the strongest diatribe is recorded in Matthew 23. At least seven times in that chapter, Jesus pronounced the following condemnation: “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!” He condemned and illustrated their rapaciousness, their selfishness, their inward spiritual emptiness, and their emphasis on “scruple” while neglecting the “weightier” matters of justice, mercy, and faith.

I am also curious if you are sensitive to how the people in other parts of the world feel when Christians tell them that what they have been taught and believe is wrong and that they will go to H#ell if they don't change their thinking.
it has always been a part of the job sm
and it is not going to change. There are some dictators that some MTs are always going to have a hard time understanding, probably most MTs but they are not going to change for us. The only thing you can do is flag a report and hope the doctor will fill in the blanks or the hospital will say something to that person about all the blanks in the report (the dictator). They are not going to change for us because it is not about us!
QA is a part of MT like it or not. nm

what part of Florida are you in
because it shouldn't really affect your work, if you have a working computer and electricity, you should be able to get work.
I exaggerated the part about
1/2 the pay for working twice as hard, but in my opinion that is quickly becoming the trend...

Also, I apologize ahead of time, for any typos.  I am not on the clock right now and am not obsessive/compulsive about it all...

maybe its part of the new MQ pay plan

its all part of the job sweetie.

This is part of growing up
I believe they have to start making their own decisions at some point in their life and living with the consequences.  Same as we all do.  I'm not saying he will regret it or not regret it, one way or the other, but either way, it should be his decision.  Take it easy, Mom.

Part time
I work part time from home, and I graduated about 7 months ago. It fine doing part time, just don't expect to make any money.
What part of my post

The "get over it" part. :) NM

part time
I was told I had to work 20 hours minimum and there was no maximum. Since I'm paid by the line, I could work 100 hours a week if I wanted.
Why don't you try getting a part-time job? Try
